During quarantine, I wasn't able to ride at all. So instead I excercised. The next time I got on, it was one of the best rides of my life.

One of my favorite things to do is stack up some pillows in a comfortable spot and watch gopros, moving as if I were on the horse. It has proven to not only work my muscles, but also help my technique and awareness. I highly reccomend this method

I am 5', 69 yrs. old, over weight and not fit. It's been several years since I've been in the saddle. Earlier this year my horse died. I had him for about 28 yrs. Now it seems that I just have to get back into horses and riding. I'm considering purchasing a very pretty 17 yr. old Halflinger. I was amazed how awkward & stiff I was when I got up on him! It was almost frightening. Since then I have been watching videos to try to realign my mental/emotional state with working with a horse as well as riding. I'm also working on my body fitness & flexibility. I've got lots of work to do.

It's worth it, also try face yoga, it looks at balance, symmetry and posture. See Fumikos face yoga and Tanaka's face massage it's fun, enjoyable and with regular movement and yoga, really helpful. Blessings to the journey and good health for all

Good for you, Sharon!! I'm so sorry for your loss. It's inspiring to hear your story and how you aren't letting fear hold you back from getting into the saddle again. Best of luck to you on your journey!!! Reminds me of a quote I repeat to myself (uttered by 93 year old mechanic Fran Reedy), "Can't never did do anything!" Many blessings.

Hi. I did not watch this video until today, but I did all the things you said in this episode unintentionally. The facility which I did the ridings was closed for a while and I felt frustrated not been able to be on a saddle. Started jogging, yoga and learning things about horses, any type of things that can relate to horse back riding. Now back on horses' back it DID feel different. My muscles were stronger and I was aware of how I use my body more clear than I used to. Learning about horses; anatomy of horses, behavior of horse, body languages they use, it really helped me with understand and improve my riding. I found them all working. Still on the progress to being a better rider and a good companion to horse which I encounter, what you said is totally true. WOW. It was an eye opening experience. Even though I CAN go riding now, stuck with the habit of knowing your body movements and learning about horses. Your channel is wonderful. Very much enjoy it.

When I had a 4/5 month break I really looked into areas I wanted to improve on (since I’m still a beginner) and when I got back I really noticed an improvement despite not riding for a long time.

Thanks Callie I am just or have just started the 7 days to better riding. I am only new to riding and enjoying it immensely, despite or even because of the challenges I guess every new rider has. Anyway to answer your question, I look into the Feldenkrais, but I like the idea of the visualisation and the learning and I am constantly watching any and all of the CRKtraining videos. So thank you for making it more accessible. Chris

I watch CRK training videos on UA-cam among others and listen intently to my riding coach. I also go to the gym 6 days a week, participate in calisthenics, jump rope and run outside even when it's 20 degrees. In the winter months I ski and snowboard.

I am learning to master my trot, I take 1x weekly lessons (western) and have been riding different horses. I enjoy learning from your channel...especially when you say the learning never stops. I get frustrated when I dont progress with a certain horse but maybe I am progressing in my understanding of the complexity of riding. I am going to work on my visializations.

I have found dance, especially belly dance, is really great for body awareness and learning precise control of movement. Also for range of motion. And I find it a lot of fun. I have done visuals for other things but not riding. I am going to try that. I did set up a swing in my backyard to set a saddle on. I can get some bounce and swing on it and it helps my back and practice posting. I also do stretches and work on my position. Its good to use this so I can concentrate on body awareness without having to be focusing on a live horse. Ive noticed it has really helped as a foundation for fundamentals when I do get to ride.

I have a quarter horse who won't move away from the gate to our riding paddock, I will walk him in fine then he will freeze and fight the bit to get away from the riding paddock. I also ride on a little track and when going past the feed shed he was halt and won't move forward, I dont like fighting him or kicking him hard. could you please help me out? thanks

Obviously I’m not her but when I’m tested on my riding I just try not to worry about it. When I’m scared or nervous about being perfect I tense up and make mistakes and don’t have good riding. When I don’t worry about being perfect I naturally am “perfect” obviously I make mistakes sometimes but over time it all comes naturally and when I worry and tense up my seat isn’t good my balance isn’t good my heels move up my legs become stiff without noticing. I would just say don’t stress, ride how u usually do and be calm but still remember and enforce proper equitation. Again this is just what I do obviously everyone’s different and it’s kind of hard to explain what I do written but I hope this helped. Good luck!

I’m 65 years old and getting back into riding after 15 years of caring for my aging parents and sister who passed from breast cancer. I LOVE riding I LOVE horses but I have tight hip flexors and weak abdominal muscles so I find myself in the chair seat position. 😔. My question is, HOW CAN I IMPROVE THIS CHALLENGE WITHOUT GOING TO MUCH ONTO MY PUBLIC BONE? Seems like if I get my legs back far enough them my weight in more over my pubic bone and not my seat bones. I’m thinking I may need to tilt my pelvis. I purchased an exercise ball so if there are specific exercises I should be doing I would appreciate your help.
Thank you so much, Debi from Oregon
