How do you plot it from a specified value of X ? My question says: On the grid draw 1/2 X + 5, for values of X from -2 to 4 ? Really don't understand am I supposed to start at -2 then intersect at +4 ?

it took my teacher 45 minutes to teach the class how to do this and have me understand nothing but it took a video from 2009 6 minutes to teach the same thing and have me understand it all

0.29 means 29 hundredths... so a fraction for 0.29 would be 29/100 (This would not be a whole number because it is your slope.) It works for any decimal, just determine the place value of the last number of the decimal. Okay, well, there you go. :-)
If your equation is y = 0.29x + 9, that would be a yes. 29/100 doesn't reduce. Rather icky equation. I suggest changing your x and y values to 10's and not 1's so it would fit on your graph.
Hello 9feelandk: What you will do it put -2 in for x and solve for y. You will do that for the numbers -2 through 4. y=(1/2)(-2)+5 = -1 + 5 = 4 So your ordered pair is (-2, 4)
If you get the x the equation will be un-graphable. That is the input area. Let's say, x=4. Then you will multiply the slope fraction by 4. This was probably explained too complex to understand.
@picrustable MY problem is x-3y=9 ans I switched it around to make the y come first like you are supposed to do. It now reads y=3x-9, would before the 3x come a negative sign(-)??? So is the problem lik correct now the way it is?

Strange equations like this are not so nice for beginning students. You are more likely to see this type of equation in a business class. Hope that helps.
