Graphing Lines in Algebra: Understanding Slopes and Y-Intercepts
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2017
- Now that we are familiar with the coordinate plane, it's time to learn more about lines, as these are the simplest things to graph. Lines have slopes, and they usually have intercepts, so lets learn what these words mean!

Wow you deserve MANY more views than that. I have been on the hunt for good math videos for my kids and i have been through HUNDREDS of them about slope, etc. Hands down this is the most clear, concise and uncluttered explanation out there. Gold medal to you!
Can u give me a information?1.Which country are you from and in which grade slope, getting the area of a triangle, square are taught?
@@tahiyareza7827
In india, calculating area are taught in grade 7th or 8th and coordinate geometry and slope are taught in grade 9th..
Actually there are two boards in india CBSE and ICSE..so i am from CBSE and i can give you info. About that
Hope it helps🙂
@@shivanshjha938 I'm in us this is hard but this man help me thank you good sir
agree
I need to go back to school because online classes are so difficult to understand
YASSS that why im here
same here but I'm at such a weird point. in those videos where math teachers from actual in-person classes teach and have to stop to tell students to pay attention or write something down I get so angry I have to find a different video
Same for me in India
This is literally the best, most thorough yet simplified explanation I've seen on UA-cam.
Thanks!
I skip 40 days of online school and in my freshman year I’m not doing so well in math
Whose having exam tomorrow
Literally this morning

Professor Dave.......... you are truly MAE (master at everything) from 1+1 to y=2x-3. You have helped me so much when I have math problems is go straight to your channel and there is always a video answering I’m question. Keep up the good work!!!!
I completely forgot about this and now that I'm in college i need a quick review. you summed all the details i needed for understanding this one quick. YOU'RE OUR SAVIOR
You have been such a huge help! I haven’t touched math in over 10 years and find myself back in school now almost wanting to give up. Thank you so much for walking through each step on the most basic level.
Me too
I like the way that you are teaching me
Great visual explanation of slope! And showing a slope progress to a "no slope" and regress to a "0 slope" was awesome! I'm a high school math teacher and my students often struggle with truly understanding slope. I love this explanation and visual.
I cannot thank you enough for this video!!! I am very behind when it comes to math due to a number of reasons, including a few learning differences as well as I was given an honors math program growing up that was like high school in elementary and I never learned anything because I didn't even know what they were asking. I am trying to heal my relationship with math especially since I have to take a college-level one soon and this video cleared up years of confusion. I swear this sounds dramatic but I am serious thanks!
A thorough teacher! Thanks.
Thank u prof. for ur clear explanation of X & Y intercets.
Professor I am so proud of you in that you are helping me shape up on my math skills: Thanks a million
You just nailed it sir ❤️❤️...You made all concepts look like water ...Great job sir 🙏
Love this! I want to improve my algebra grade. SO much easier than my teacher.
Excellent and so very helpful. Thank you.

thank u so much! i missed 1 class of math and i have no idea what anything was and tomorrow is my test. thank u:)
Thanks, Dave! Finally have a chance to grasp math. My teachers in school were like - uhm, see me doing this. Why we do this?? Well, just remember, it's math. Student's book was the same.
Thank you so so much! I was working on my homework but I forgot how to do the math. Thank you again

BRO THE INTRO GOT ME DYING
First time watching it got me too, I had to look back at it like: Huh hold up what was that!?!?
I don't enjoy listening to my Maths Tutor. Your explanation is very good and much mire understandable.😊
One question, who defines which coordinates are first, why is y2=4 and y1=2, what stops them from being the other way around, like y2=2 and y1=4?
YaY! I learned! thanks you
Man I was sick when we learned this and I'm having a math test over this tomorrow. I have no idea how to do this. I gotta graph it
I subscribed on my School account i i just want too say i understand everything now thank you !!!
nice very helpfull
the fact that I still don't understand it really says a lot about my horrible memory
Your videos are so helpful! Also I find myself bouncing like a toddler during the intro
ty bro my teacher couldn't explain that iin 1 month and you did in 5 mins
Thank you sir

negative slopes still throw me off. Ty

im gonna cry my head hurts lol
How about the form Ax + By = C? How do you graph that and solve that on a table?
i've got tutorials on all these things! just look through my mathematics playlist for what you need.
Professor Dave Explains // Okay, thank you. I’ll look for it.
Thanks i don’t understand my teacher at all and nobody does and i got a test tomorrow
at 2:07 he says y2 is 4, my question is why? how come 2 isn’t y2? I often get confused with these points, does it have to do with how big the numerical value is?
thanks
Hi, can you please explain how did you solved the two last questions please? thanks.
👀 Hi lol
Is slope between y and X and X and y same
i have a Ged coming up and the understanding of this is blank do you have any full walkthroughs
Thanks sir ji help full for jee exam🎉
The b value in the second exercise of the check comperhension is -3 but not 3, because we picked two values for x and y, first one is (0,4) and second is (1,1) then (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) = -3. So this is what i got, explain me guys if i made a mistake, thanks in advance!
it doesnt passes thorough (0,4) it passes through (0,3)for m=-2, c=3 where y=mx+c
THANK YOU I HAVE A TEST ON THIS
oh wow nice professor
the way you teach is awesome
please make videos on maths 3D
Good
Can somebody explain why no.2 y-intercept is 3???
thank you! BTW Philippine here
okay but how do you find the y-intercept if there isnt a 0 point something? ;-;
Y'all my teacher making us watch this for hw sos!!!
Can somebody tell me what slope line shows that the Y is greater than it's change in x.
thank you
done this lesson.
good luck in your exam!
thanks so much bestie i have a test in like an hour and fidnt understand anything
Hi professor Dave i want to ask you two equations first how do we do -x + 3y =-9 and second one is 2x + 5y = -20.
Have u done it or do u still need its answer brother after so long
Gotta smoke and come back to this. I'm confused
Imagine getting carried this hard.

Wow. Beautiful easy to understand video. So good.
2:59 I don't understand, what numbers subtracted together give infinity?
1
How I still don’t over stand
Saved my ass for my algebra exam, thanks a bunch
Awesome
Dis is da bestest.
I only have one question, Does it matter what two points on the graph you need to choose from?
I have a graph, I picked the two points (-1, 0) and (1,3) the slope is 3/2. I still do not get how to make that equation. Like how did you plug in those numbers?
In the equation y = mx+b, I get that the M is the slope and the B is the y-intercept, but what is Y?
y is the vertical coordinate
@@ProfessorDaveExplains Thanks.
2:43
Yes, I think he meant “greater than zero” because a line with a slope of, say 1/2 is less than 1 and greater than zero, and it slopes upwards.
TY I DIDNT UNDERSTAND TUS
This saved me, for my maths assignment. Teacher did a bad job explaining it
Wow, I’m super dumb. I don’t understand any of this.
goofy mf
Congrats
You aren't dumb, you just need the right teacher for you. Everybody is smart at something you just need practice
But how do you find the y-intercept? I understand the slope
i didn't understood either.

Last question that you gave for us to solve in that the m you wrote was wrong I’m sure I’m right cause for the other question I got m right but not for last so I know it’s wrong
I’m trying to figure out how to graph slopes and y intercepts without being given an equation.
YES BRO IAM ALSO TRYING IF U KNOW PLEASE REPLY......

I wish i had found this earlier
i can't understand why there is -2 in the last comprehension instead of 2....
As the rise y is going in the down(negative) direction. So -2
I don't understand 😢@@saemafahmi5283
My slope was 1|1/2 and not -2 can someone explain
hi
tell me if I wrong
x-4
y3 + 49=52-1=51
(x47)
The fact I understand a video instead of my teacher yapping for 6 hours is crazy🤭
@5:40 isn't 3/2 ("three halves" as it's called here) just a 1-1/2? Calling it 3/2 doesn't make sense to me 😑
If the answer was not in it's improper form, the answer would be considered incorrect. If the intercept 3/2 for example, its up 3, over 2. You can't simplify to mixed mumber because the slope would be incorrect.
@@yoboyTyYT Thank you for your response - I'm still a bit confused why it's called "three halves" if it's not actually a fraction, like also at the 4:46 mark he says "five halves". Just trying to reference the meaning of those fractions with what I actually do know about fractions. How those fractions end up translating into a line on a graph is still an absolute mystery to me too - this is where math takes a hard left turn into oblivion lol
@@squatch253 Its not that its not a fraction, its just that in slope intercept form, they would want the slope to be in its impropee form if the slope a fraction
