I just picked up some HD Zero goggles as your Guerilla whooping has inspired me to go small… hopefully I’ll start doing some bigger builds with HDZ soon as well!
I built my Grinderino with the goku 722 (same shape board). I installed my FC the correct direction by soldering on my pigtail vertically (kinda, more like a 65 Degree angle) and bending the cap over the top of the FC, soldering the legs directly onto the pad. Make sure the legs are as short as possible so you can put the battery strap in front of the cap. You can move the camera back inside the frame a little more by moving the camera mounts to the 2nd set of stand offs in reverse facing direction (so the tabs face forward) to give more protection. Use the through hole solder pads for the motors from underneath. This will help with keeping the wires from getting caught on things and give a better anchor as it is most likely to pull up or out but not down. I wouldn't recommend titanium for motor mounts/prop screws. Titanium shatters instead of bends. Good job on the build, I couldn't make that achievement even with 4s (550).
I was trying to figure out if the cap would fit over the top if I bent it over but the battery strap was my biggest concern so I’ll might try cutting the legs down more as you suggested when I build the next one. With the camera moved back do you get the frame in view? If I go higher than about 30 degrees with the camera where it is I’ll have the top of the frame in shot. On that AIO there’s no through hole solder pad, the solder pads are quite small and close together so I couldn’t get loads of solder on there but I’ve repaired it and it should hold now. For the titanium shattering it’s slightly softer than 916 steel so should be less prone to shattering… howevever they do get scraped up a bit more on the motor mounts when I hit the floor so I think they’ll likely need to be replaced sooner
Thanks I’m going to build the second one slightly differently… but I’ll never forget as I was dry fitting it all together I had your build video on as well… and that’s the point I realised the arms didn’t have a 9x9 pattern 😂
Hey ! I just watched your Quadmula build video and absolutely loved it. I would like to build a very similar kwad and I already have the 03. I’m currently in Lausanne so I would love to be able to discuss with you where you bought your parts, how much you paid for them, and what you would do different now. Do you really recommend the Siren compared to other 3 inches ? Keep up the great work ! Thanks in advance :)
So the Siren is still my favourite quad, I’ve been back in the U.K. for two weeks and didn’t bring it and I wish I had… I’ve just received the 3.5inch version frame that I’m about to build as well to see how that compares. As for parts I’ve had to buy them from all over as those specific parts aren’t available everywhere all the time. The main places I’ve bought from in Switzerland are dronefactory.ch fpvracing.ch and helifree.ch some of these places may be able to order those parts in for you specifically if they don’t have them in stock. The parts definitely weren’t on the cheap side, I’m pretty sure there’s a way cheaper way of doing this if you made it 4s, used a lower amp AIO and 1404 motors. Some of the parts I ordered from the uk (eg the batteries and motors) from hobbyrc.co.uk and flying-tech.co.uk But let me know if you need any help and happy to chat
@@GarethDix Thanks for the infos! Now I know where to order my parts haha. For the Quadmula frame, can you directly ordere from their website and have it delivered to Switzerland ? And I really can't decide whether I go for the Siren F3 split or the Quadmula Djinn F25 split. On one hand the new Djinn has no props or frame in the view, but the Siren has more thrust for the same weight... Are you planning on building a Djinn soon?
@dronebiketv I order the frames directly from quadmula and they arrive in about 1.5-2 weeks typically… just make sure you order a couple of spare arms so you’re not paying more on the shipping just for an arm if you break one. I was hoping the 3.5inch they were working on would be a djinn then I could use it for cinematic flying as well as freestyle. 2.5inch is a little small for how I fly, but then I’ve been asked a few times about it so I might give it a go. I’ve been been messing around with a couple of small BNF’s over the past week so I’m finding the fun in the small quads again… just trying to figure out where a 2.5 fits in my fleet. I will be building a Siren F5 for the summer though
My friends laughed at me, when I told them that I had not 2 but 4 quads and also a soldering iron with me at our vacation in Kanada and Hawaii They don't get the pain, when a soldering iron would fix a small issue in no time and you didn't bring it. 🤔😁
Hahaha… yes I have a travel soldering iron too which is tiny so it made it worse! I went as far as found an electrical shop here on the island that sold soldering irons! If the shaft of the motor hadn’t bent so badly I’d have been up and flying again in no time… I guess next time I’ll bring spare motors, frame, one of everything too! 😂
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but for my sub 250 cinewhoop (1404 3800kV 2,5inch) (while carrying an action 2/naked gopro) I went for an elrs EP2 as they made me gain 2 grams. (Also had to go analog for costs and weight tho. Definitely wouldn't have the durability of your frame either (qav pro micro))
I now have an ELRS module for my Tango2 because of a future video I’m working on some of the quads only came with ELRS so I’m potentially going to move some of my smaller quads over to it. Crossfire has never let me down so far so I hope ELRS will be just as stable
I have not flown the pacer 1804’s but I have flown the 1604’s. If they’re anything like the 1604’s, if you look at them the wrong way the shaft and bells will bend. I settled on 1507’s but I’d imagine you can’t build those to sub 250.
So weirdly I’ve been running the same 1604’s for the past few months on my 3” build and the amount I’ve smashed that thing up the motors are still going… first hit on the 1804’s and it didn’t go so well… on the second build I might try the 1804’s but with the 5mm shaft and see if that helps (although it’s heavier)
heu good video! i love yor contet. Just telling you should test quadmula djinn F25 and i would love to see build video of that but keep that sick contet up 🔥🔥
Thank you! I’m building an F35 at the moment as I really like the 3.5inch size but a few people have asked me about the djinn so I’ll probably plan a build with one of those shortly… but I would build it 4s with the same stack or a Flywoo AIO and maybe 1404 motors… should work quite well!
change that antenna for something lighter. If you are chasing 250g so hard, can I ask, have you ever been stopped and had your quad weighed? has it ever happened to anyone you know? I feel like by complying with these rules that are often impractical and rarely enforced, we create and add to the problem. Anyway, good video and nice build. I'm a fan of 5mm motor shafts and 1408-1507 for this size build.
I have whip antenna that came with the O3 light which was my final change to get it under 250g, I might build the second with it and see if it makes a difference on the connection with how I fly. And yes I’ve had my quad weighed… I live in Switzerland (the land of rules) the police here don’t have a lot else to do… especially as I’m not from here so already have a target on my back. 😂 I have a licence to fly 250g+ but the constraint makes for an interesting build. I wanted to use the 5mm shaft version on the 1804’s (the T mount props are a pain) but the weight addition (+the gem fan props) was too much. Which 1408-1507 have 5mm shafts? I’ll check those out for a future build?
@@GarethDix ok didn't know it was being actively enforced like that. Wow 😮. One of the lightest motors I've found for 3.5 is the rcip 1506 3000kv at 14 grams. Flies very efficiently on 4s but also handles 6s like a champ.
@mntlfpv it probably doesn’t happen often but it’s happened to me twice as the 250g restraint only came in January this year for Switzerland… that said the police here even have mini portable rolling roads so they can test people’s e-bike power too 😂 But thanks for the recommendation on the motors I’ll check them out!
I’ve added a link in the description. I got them on aliexpress, after trying a few different stores the ones from QCTi are the best quality… and come in packs of 10 so you’ll have a couple spare just in case
Can you provide any details on how you mounted the o3 lite vtx. Looks like you mounted with screws so did you just replace the ones that came in the vtx with longer m1.6 screws?
Yes exactly… I can’t remember the length of them (I’ll check when I get V home tomorrow) but I basically had to unscrew the brackets that hold it together and switch them to the bottom of the vtx so that I could mount the camera cable underneath the AIO. I’ve seen other people use double sided tape too to keep it simple
I hadn't realised I didn't put these in the description (I've added it now) but the one I've used in this video is this one unfortunately there's a small charge for downloading this model as it's cults3D cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/grinderino-dji-o3-antenna-mount-w-elrs Alternative Antenna mount on thingyverse that is free - but a little heavier www.thingiverse.com/thing:6124744
Gareth, Hows the 03 looking after a few crashes? I’m in the midst of building one and not sure if to go down the naked route of just keep it normal. (03 airunits naked are not to durable from my experience, and this quad will be taking a bashing) Cheers J
It seems to be holding up well so far but I think that’s down to the Grinderino frame being a beast and giving it loads of protection I’m planning a Quadmula F35 build at the moment and have a naked O3 to save some weight so let’s see if it holds up as well! One thing I’m definitely trying though is seeing if it’s still waterproof as I’m pretty sure it won’t survive that
@@GarethDix cool thanks man. Still undecided but I’ll mull it over some more. As for the water put some conformal on it man. I have done it to 3 fully naked 03s and they work fine. Just don’t like crashing much 😂
@PookaFPV any issues with the heat by doing that? That’s probably the biggest worry as the naked O3’s heat up really fast. But now I’ve said my naked O3 has been fine with the hits… just watch as I crash it and kill it this weekend 😂
@@GarethDix not yet man. As long as your moving they stay pretty cool. Don’t jinx it man. You will be fine. From the looks of the video you still got the heat sink on the boards so that’s a little more protection( might add to it getting hotter as well though?)
@PookaFPV yeah this is the Flywoo lite version so still has some of the protection (and the sd card slot) keeping my fingers crossed it stays in one piece 😂

Just be careful on which walksnail vtx is used though as some of them are quite large and there’s not a lot of space in the back of the frame. I believe @edrone did a walksnail build and had it on spacers so it sat slightly above the AIO
You do not have enough solder on those pads. I haven't broken a motor pad connection.....ever, so (please, no offense) I think you've got to work on those.
Yeah I know… that AIO crams a lot into a tiny space the solder pads are very close together it’s the only downside of it. I’m going to resolder all of the motors wires just in case. My quadmula build has never lost a joint and I crash that everyday 😂
@Braincho I haven’t yet… I wanted to try the Pavo20 but I’m also conscious that I love the pico because it’s tiny so it just fits in my bag with everything else!
Ahh no it’s 3.5inches… 5inch Sub250g compromises a lot on the durability because the weight has to be reduced somewhere. Ummagawd 2fiddy is Sub250g and 5inch but I crash way too much to trust myself with one of those 😂
