@Del Halley if you've got something to say about him address the man himself... I mean he took the time to come comment in this youtube comments section, a real man of the people.
The future (like it or not) is sub250g and I've been saying that for quite a while already. Can't wait to see what you've come up with Tommy, as soon as I can afford to I'll buy into these motors, props and whatever frame you come up with. Sounds groundbreaking for all those who want to go sub250 without moving down to smaller frames. Great work man!
In Europe if its sub 250g but "has a sensor" it still needs to be registered... Ans you need a license. I don't see why anyone thinks the 250g limit will hold. They want you out of the air, it's not like they care about the size or safety, they just want you out.
@@cinialvespow1054 What is "a sensor"? An accelerometer is a sensor. A gyro is a sensor. You guys need to push back. Remember... governments are not your master, they are your servant -- they work for YOU. Don't be bullied!

9:15 man tommy, what a throwback! my first quad was a ZMR250 on 3S with 5030 props, over 5 years ago now and I thought it was the greatest thing ever! It's amazing not only how far we have come, but that we've come full circle too!
@@ummagawdFPV i know right?! idk about you but it just blows my mind. Also, in a somewhat related note I think you might be somewhat on the wrong track with a sub250 freestyle build, you seem to not be taking around the mass of the quad relative to prop disk area into account. Part of the reason toothpicks fly like toothpicks is because of their relatively low mass relative to the area of the prop disks, you can see this by comparing how say.... a 2" vs a 3" toothpick at similar masses fly. I'm sure your 5" sub250 will fly great when it's done, but it makes me wonder: What would happen if we came up with a 3.5" prop based quad built around a target AUW of 248g? Either way, keep up the good work Tommy!
wth, this was THE BEST vid I have seen the last moths. In my country (The Netherlands) the EU laws are getting in place, they do make things easier but the 250 gram is really a turningpiont in what you are alowed to do and what not. I was really getting into fpv 2 years ago, spent a year on learing everything and for what to lookout for in fpv, bought 1 year ago the tinyhawk s, spent a year flighing that., its an awesome tinywhoop. Now I have made up my mind, I want to go into racing... So first, I need a spot to fly, very important! So I have 3 places where I could fly/race, but there is a chance that some people are going to hear and see it, so I need to keep the rules to play it safe and not risk fines. But back to the piont, max 250g is really a save weight to not get fined and still have all the fun that FPV quads bring. So I have been looking for parts to build a fpv racing quad for the last year, still getting more info on what to look out for. So I have a racing setup now, only need to buy the parts and looking for the right props... But now I think, I dont gonna spent 300 on a quad and have to buy 6 lipo's for getting the risk getting in trouble... So max 250 is I think now from now on my new focus piont to study on.... (still dont have a 5 inch quad) But I love to see more of these kind of vids to study on what parts to buy and to look out for... Also I might start looking for study vids on the combination of props and motors, I dont have seen much vids on that subject, but it is a very important factor on how your quad will fly in the end. Anyway, thanks for the info and the awesome vid!
Enjoyed this a lot, but my only question is: Why develop in a bubble? It seems like you are ignoring all the other options in the last 5-6 months that use this same formula. Its cool to see the entire process, but especially frame wise, there are 3-4 options that i have reviewed that could have saved you some time. Noteably the DaveC mini long range 5" and the CMW Shocker lite. Cant wait to see the end result, and how it compares to the existing options. And it is also cool to see all the considerations that go into developing these solutions.
The best part of this is making "Mag Motors" modelled after your favorite wheels. When your drone matches your car ...well, let's just say ... you are complete.
PROPS!!! Thanks for sharing... Great mix of micro motor elements into the design... Love the idea of designing a motor and custom prop for this. thats one way to solve a possible regulatory problem.. and be closer to what we all know and love with standard 5 inch quads.
I like KababFPV's analytics and his motivation but you take it to another level. Maybe your not as scientific but certainly much more fun and enjoyable to watch! Just love it! Keep it up!
I love my Flywoo Explorer LR, its got great flight times, some light freestyle chops and a decent top speed of 60mph. Batteries on this quad are everything since performance is relaxed so I only fly 4s 850 Rline packs on it since the voltage sag is minimal and you get recovery very soon.
I just bought my first two packs of umma grip (1 tbs version and 1 lite) and watching this video makes me a lot more proud to use the umma grip. Respect.
I really like this video and style. I know it took longer to make, but it’s just as good (or better) than anything on TV. I teach, and I want students to watch this it’s so good. Thanks for making it - and including all of us on the journey.
I have been known to do, what you call, over propping with excellent results (ok, I don't fly stunts). I have had two sub-250 gram 5-inch quads powered by BrotherHobby 1504.5 3950 KV motors. Smooth flight, stable, and no wobbles. Of course, my throttle is normally about 30 percent when flying these rigs; just nice cruising around at high altitudes.

So I decided I'd just be open about my story/journey and if you're down, then great. I hope you'll support it in however way you find fit. It became easier for me to find my path when I realized that I do this for people like yourself, not the people waiting for the clone version. 🙏🤙
You're on the right track! I would highly recommend also trying Gemfan 5125 triblades. If you want a solid frame to do testing on until you're own design is ready look into the ET5 from Racer X. 4s 850 seems to be about the optimal size and weight compromise on batteries. Alternatively, if you go with higher motor kv (3000-3500) running a 3s 1100 mah pack can work really well. A 1000 uf capacitor attached directly to the battery pads can really help smooth out motor response on these light weight 5" builds. I'm currently really enjoying a build with 2203 3450 kv motors. It flies really well with a 4s 850 and Gemfan 4023 triblades, or 3s 1100 and Gemfan 5125 props. The auw ends up right about 265g either way. Switching to your new motors would probably be enough to get me under that magic 250 number. I'll be looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.
Awesome content Tommy... I may be against you on this one but I like the 4" for the ± 250g setup. Has enough prop area "float" to still "feel" heavier more like a traditional 5".
