Fun fact about the Max Buster mode. It actually scales up with your power ups. So you could start with a flat 100 but end up with 200+ damage done with the buster. I even ended up just killing the Life Virus in BM1 in less than 2 seconds because the damage was so high
I see you. I hear you. I am with you. As a veteran of this series, I can honestly say the BN5 liberation missions are by FAR the most fun I have ever had in the series. BN3 is my favorite game overall, BN6 is my favorite for gameplay specifically, and BN5 gets a special ranking from me exclusively for the liberation missions. I could make a whole video essay on the topic, easily. You either like the liberation missions or you are wrong.
That's really what it comes down to for me. I love BN5 and BN6 about equally, but for drastically different reasons. Between certain virus lineups and Liberation Missions, BN5 feels like its appeal comes from trying to challenge the player to quickly improve at using its systems if you're not already familiar with them. Whereas BN6 feels similar to a game like Kingdom Hearts II, where the sheer variety of combat options are dizzying and a blast, but the lack of difficulty means you aren't encouraged to diversify unless its for the sake of spicing things up.
Really good to see more appreciation for battle network. I’ll never forget BN5 team protoman and getting stuck on that cruse because the code to open the door was obnoxiously obtuse
I remember spending a lot of time figuring that stupid code out. I was certain I had it and when it still didn't work I just looked it up. Let's see if adult me can figure it out this time around 😂
As a kid I just typed all combinations possible until I got it right and wrote it down as a kid I use to write memos and sometimes maps if it was an area where map was disabled an example was blue dragon in a hidden area only accessible by airship back then I rarely got new games so I would play multiple times and write notes to make it easier for another play through
Man I’m lucky that the random game I got for Christmas as a kid was battle network 3 as my first BN game. Didn’t even ask for GBA SP or know I was getting one but I’m guessing the guy at GameStop that recommended the games to my mom had taste
I'm inclined to agree. Battle Network 3 is definitely a super solid game, which says a lot coming from someone like me who was exposed to the latter half of the series first and then went backwards.
Max buster with Bass Cross (especially the gold form) just straight up wrecks all viruses just by standing in the middle row since it’s a tri-shot buster.
If you want to play Battle Network 1, the DS version Operate Shooting Star has a fan translation. This version of BN1 features a lot of QoL changes, including an internet map on the bottom screen
I definitely considered covering OSS and Double Team DS in their own section, but I ended up opting to just focus on looking at the games present in the collection for simplicity's sake. The lack of BN5DS features is definitely a sticking point for me considering how much I would've liked to have Transport Chips for SearchMan and SolCross.
Id say play them all, it gives a solid appreciation for the changes that happen over the course of the series, and highlights the best and worst of the series.
I was growing up as these games were releasing. I frankly don't remember which one I started with but there was something, then Blue Moon happened. I was around 8 years old. I don't remember finishing it. I skipped BN5 but watched a friend play Colonel version. I returned to finish the franchise strong and stuck the landing with Gregar version and I remember feeling so much emotion after getting to the end of that game.
I hope this doesn't come off as advertising, but I'm going to recommend something. While not a thing most of the time, Battle Network does occasionally reference the other games in the series, especially the latter half. If you want to get a feel for the story, but don't want to dive into a particular game, KNIJon has a series going over all 6 games in the series. He goes pretty in depth as well, so it's well worth a watch.
11:15 You want to know what caused me such torment? It was this game. It was Battle Network 5 when I was a child. I love this game. But I also really hated it back then. Started playing Battle Network 1 yesterday and I'm really looking forward to playing through the whole series!
I mean, kid me was slow enough mentally that I'd gotten stuck at the *Sci-Lab Main Computer* when I first played BN5, so I definitely have my share of...ROUGH memories with the game too lmao And I hope that your time with the games is a great one!
You know it's funny I never actually would realize we would come to A-day where we'd all be celebrating the release of a battle network collection and I'm having a lot of fun. Granted it's because I'm back to playing my favorite game in the series which is battle network 3 blue version and I am starting to play through battle network 5 team colonel because I played team protoman on the ds years ago, but still it feels great to dive back into these games. This was a very nice primer video and I'm definitely gonna be using the battlechip building tips to my advantage because I'm still a bit rusty in doing that lol. Great job with the video! Also before I forget major props in bringing up that infamous X play review clip where they gave battle network 6 A 2 out of 5 for some reason. Like really lol. Still great job!
Very glad i looked up a guide for the bear in the park section. I dont know if i ever would have checked the hidden side of the cliff where the waterfall is.
Heard such horrible things about bn1 that I started with the Max megabuster out the gate. Currently on 2. 3 and 6 are tied for my favorites with 5 being a close second. 3 was my first dive into battle network so it always has a soft spot in my heart.
I will always be in love with MBN3. Journey started in JR high school. Everyday during lunch, we would play. All you heard in that area from where we was sitting @ was 8-10 different Mega Man Buster's go freaking bonkers, especially if you had GUTs style. now @ 31 im playing it on the big screen. I love how this all works out for the Buster.
1:02 Devil May Cry 3, Resident Evil 4, and Battle Network 6 came out in 2005. Monster Hunter Freedom was also released in 2005, and it's arguably the most important MH game. 2003 was cursed, but some of their best games came out in 2005.
Hot take: I love bn4 and genuinely recommend someone start on it if they just want to know what they're getting into. Don't 100% it first for the love of God, but it's short and sets you up for any game going forward. I do definitely have a bias, I think the translation errors are really funny. My play order recommendation is 4, 5, 6, 2, 3, (play 1 before 2 if you feel like it I guess lol)
Thank you for your very detailed and committed sharing of Megaman Battle Network Legacy Collection especially to a returning player like me who played and did not complete Megaman Battle Network 6 Cybeast Gregar, ZRG. I like what I see this new collection gives to a new player. Unfortunately, I am not as agile today as compared to when I was 21 years ago to play real-time battles the games offer. I am sure new and young players will learn much from you to get the most enjoyment out of this collection.
Thank you for the kind words! This was a passion project I've had on the backburner for a while, so I'm glad that it seems to have turned out well! And lord knows I'll do EVERYTHING in my power to make sure that this series is able to be enjoyed by as many as people as possible if I can.
Excellent vid I'd say and the only thing I'd say you missed are the alternate DS versions of BN1 and 5 not included in legacy collection Operate Shooting Star is far and away the definitive release of game 1, it has map feature, you can run with the L button like the rest of the series along with some minor crossover content with StarForce and little improvements in the dungeons that go a long way, if makes Battle Network 1 actually playable and if you just have to play it it's gotta be this version if nothing else it'll reduce the guide syndrome thanks to the map, you can easily find a fan translation for it There's also 5 Double Team which adds quite a lot actually, it adds Sol Cross by putting a copy of Boktai in the GBA slot, compatibility with the other BN GBA games including 5 which I think is really neat, the party system is a way to play with the navis outside of liberations and makes Internet traversal easier hell they even com with a mini Navi Cust and during liberation missions the ability to switch a member for their opposite version counterpoint (swapping Numberman for Searchman for example). Unlike BN1 though 5's source port in BNLC is still a solid version to play it's just you'd be missing out on some more quality of life features
Thank you for watching and commenting! I considered giving OSS and Double Team DS their own section, but since the point of the collection(at least from my perspective) was to have all the games in one place without needing to emulate, I opted to just focus on what was in the collection. I am kinda surprised that they didn't try to make a LC exclusive Patch Card for SolCross though, that seems like it would've been pretty simple unless I'm missing something.
My experience on MMBN1: Have maps on hand, upgrade as you go, forge to save so I used buster max so I don't waste time, and constantly used buster max once I got tired around the last part of the game. To compare with MMBN2, I am maybe 1/3 of the story through in the time I completed the first game and I'm still enjoying it, managing my folders and even grinding. For MMBN4, I was about to skip even with the added card reader features until your comment. Maybe my disappointment faded enough that I can now laugh at it (except Fireman's operator, the anime justice system of that world failed us). For some reason, my mind forgot all about MMBN6, so looks like I'll re-discover it again.
Vivid fan of the series, played each game, and found myself agreeing with everything you said, other then Nostalgia goggles for MMBN 2 and Bass being the coolest thing ever back then. MMBN 5 gets too much flak, and Double Team was such an amazing itteration of that game! ( being able to swap Numberman for Searchman is a gift i will never forget ) Great video man!
So.. I guess saying my first introduction to the series was, in fact, Red Sun is a bad thing lol. I do however, love the series and am so happy it's been rereleased. I hope more people get in on the BN series so maybe we can get Star Force as well.
When I was eagerly waiting your personal favourite bit and you were like 'the old heads won't like this" I was 1000% expecting bn4 when you said 5 I legitimately said out loud, "THANK FUCK" 😅 But yeah I'm so happy they've brought back mmbn, I'm really hoping it gets noticed this time round. A battle network 7 would be so hype, let's pray this does well!
I will serve as BN5's strongest and even ONLY soldier if need be for as long as possible.🫡 And I would *kill* for a new game in the Battle Network universe, even if they brand it differently. If OSS is any indication, there's almost 200 years between BN1 and SF3, so there's still a LOT they could do if they want to.
@@-ZRG- thanks to this collection. I have been on a massive nt warrior kick for the last 2 months. The amount of nt warrior game videos that stsrt by insulting stsr force. Say its strictly inferior. Say they skipped it. Say its bad. Rip on it. To boost up nt warrior is insane. I have seen it irl too. Starfrorce is my all time favorite megaman series. And when I was at a convention. Star force came up in trivia. When the asker was surprised j knew the answer i said so. And that j was presently replaying. And the response " im so sorry " from them. And another person " wow you have never played other megaman " when I grew up with x. Then z. Played the zx series. Played the originals. Honestly I think legends js the only one I never got to play. I hate all of the BS hate.
A personal tip: If you're planning to Complete one of the games, meaning collecting all the stars / icons / achievements, best to not rely on Max Buster mode. It's mainly due to the chip collecting: The busting level also determines which chip code you can get. This is critical to complete the PA memo list. To get S busting level, at least a Double Delete is mandatory. You can't do that with Max Buster, so check your chips out and see how to Double Delete your targets as efficiently as possible! Like, Protoman chips!
I'm surprised to hear from many youtubers that the lib missions in 5 were a bad thing, it was what made 5 special for me. But at least we all agree 4 is bad XD. My thought for newcomers: don't hesitate to use "cheats" like buster max for bn1, because running from battles is NOT an option (except for randomly drawing the escape chip)
I've been playing several hours of BN1 and I don't really get why everyone is telling the newbies to skip it. Like I'm sure it's better from here. If you don't START with the first one, you'll never play it as you'll get too used to the QoL improvements. I'm enjoying it.
I agree. I mean, sure Mega Man always had that specific issue(first game of the series being so much different from the last game, Example: MMZ1 to MMZ4, BN1 to BN6, etc), but you can't go wrong starting with the first game as it sets the fundamental to the core gameplay
It depends on the tolerance of the player that picks it up, honestly. That's why I worded my advice for BN1 to be that you "can" skip it, rather than saying that you "need" to skip it. One of my goals I had in mind when making this Primer was to help set appropriate expectations so that the series' rougher aspects don't completely blindside new blood.
@@-ZRG- Yeah I can agree with that! Its good to warn the new players on shortcomings, and your video didnt say to skip it. I've watched at least 3 now where they straight up say dont play it, its trash, and im like... no? Lol its good but maybe not as fleshed out as the follow-ups. Great video!
yea bn1 is still enjoyable, just as long as you dont let the outdated parts of the game (not being able to escape unless you use the escape chip for example) bother you too much. although the fact that your hp is restored full after each battle (only in bn1) is pretty nice, especially if you encounter a particular virus that drains up most of your health throughout the battle.
Also the Bass chip really really helps some of that early grind if you don’t want to use Buster MAX mode. This was the only NT game I had and I’m enjoying it as well!
I will live and die by Battle Network 5 being my favorite game in the series~ I can understand *why* some people may not jive with it, but I adore what this game brought to the table.
Oh, and I did play Team Protoman after Team Colonel and it made me realize aside from the abnormal canon splits, the second trilogy is also based on your play style(If you pick RS, TP, Gregar then it’s considered the “Power” type versions. For BM, TC, Falzar, it’s the “Speed “ type denoted by the souls, cross beasts, and the Bass Cross MegaMan forms)
This was a pretty informative video, especially since I plan on starting my Battle Network journey today. That said, I think I'm just gonna go in chronological order starting with BN1.
@@-ZRG- Okay, I have a question: How do you deal with the Code part of the battle system? Because I've gotten through the Waterworks so far, and the battles (particularly the bosses) have started feeling kind of annoying because more often than not, I've only been able to use one chip per round.
Limiting the amount of Codes in your folder is the first advice that comes to mind like I'd said, but some games are better about giving a selection of chips with synergy than others, especially early on. To my understanding, BN1 is one of the games that doesn't do a *great* job on that front, unfortunately. Committing to buying damage upgrades for the Buster should definitely alleviate that a bit though, or even swapping to Buster Max if it feels like a boss is starting to drag on a long time. Even NumberMan had that effect on me if the footage I captured for this video was any indication.
Honestly, the only Net area I ended up struggling through in Battle Network 1 was Net Area 2. Holy Hell. Even with a guide that complete spaghetti of an area was impossible to navigate.
Having to wait till tuesday at the time of writing to get my copy; and I do intend to play ALL of the games. Maybe even the alternate versions. All to 100% completion. So I can't really skip BN1. I'm hoping the download chip of bass will make things a LITTLE more bearable.
Instead of skipping bn1 I recommend playing Operate Shooting Star. It a ds remake (or remaster i don't know) of b1 that not only adds a map (Considering how annoying the layout was this somewhat mitigates its biggest problem) but also adds in a new arc where you work alongside and even play as megaman star force. Why they never added this version Instead of bn1 gba I don't know. Probably because geo (megaman star forces real name) pretty much breaks the game due to his lock on feature.
I’ve played four, five, and six. I’m definitely going to start with one because I never played it but it’s not going to dissuade me from playing any of the others. I’m excited to see the roots of Megaman battle network though.
I’ve only ever played 3 (all I’ve ever had access to) but based on secondhand accounts that I’ve heard of 1, I wish you good luck for the Elecman dungeon
That's honestly a good way to approach BN1 in my opinion. I understand the argument some people make that playing the others first makes BN1 even harder to go back to, but if anything, I think its interesting to see what DNA carried over from BN1 and what didn't.
Was really hoping you weren't going to say it, but of course you did. I cannot stand people bashing BN1 so much all the time and especially hate it when people say to skip it. I know it has its faults, but it's nowhere near bad enough to not be worth playing at all.
But you have to admit that in comparison to every other game in the series it sorta sucks, not saying this a hater, I'm currently going through it myself on the legacy collection and having a nostalgic blast. I could never recommend this series and say start with one though, as I don't think it'd convince people to carry on with it, 2 or 3 are good starting points imo.
I just got the impression that he was recommending for newcomers to not use it as their entry point, not that he was saying it was trash and to skip it overall.
In all fairness, I said that you "can" skip Battle Network 1, not that everyone absolutely *should* skip it. I think there's still enjoyment to be had with it, especially as an educational experience with the benefit of hindsight after getting your foot in the door with a different game, but I don't think it makes for a particularly compelling entry point.
@ZRG exactly how I feel also, if you enjoy your experience with any of the other games and then want to go back to try it to see how it all originated, then fair enough. But otherwise to try and get someone who's never played before to start with 1, in my opinion will most likely end up with them dropping it the second they get to the stoneman synario.
Another reason why you should stick to Team Colonel is because Capcom was not thinking when they designed Team Protoman for the liberation missions. They may be stronger in battle (except for Meddy), but they did not design liberation missions around Magnetman, Napalmman or Meddy's abilities.
Spoilers in this post. As a new(returning?) Fan, I'm putting my thoughts so far. I played one of the games years ago. I don't recall which one. I only recall a game show and a zoo. I've beaten 1 and am ... at least probably halfway through 2. I just beat the Plane level. Character are fun. I haven't really disliked even any of the villians. It's bringing me back to old power rangers. The heroes are cool kids and the villians are wacky goofs. I do like the idea that Wily basically almost made the Reploids but that this world went online instead. Level design in 1 is awful. I was so tired of the ice dungeon, and I ended up having like 4 more areas left. It was very annoying. The electric level wasn't any better, but I got through it pretty fast on luck, so it probably just didn't effect me as bad as I think it really could have. Even the basic travel around the Net can get very confusing, especially when backtracking to revisit merchants. I'm not using walkthroughs, even if you say to. I like challenging myself to play the way the game intended. ...that being said. I did end up using the Bass download chip because I didn't realise it was that broken. Then, the gacha mechanic landed me with 2 more Bass.exe chips. And I mean that about as early as it was possible to do so. so that was my general strategy for most of the game. Back to level design for a second. The 2nd game so far has been a lot better. I feel the major areas are more pronounced, and the other areas were simplified a little. I still find myself preferably going to a designated terminal as Lan to reduce my time in the Net though. It feels like I'm saving time not getting lost, that way. Also, generally I am used to later games controller mechanics. For example, I have skipped a few cutscenes already because I tried to "pause" the scene if I am called away, out of habit with games like Skyrim. Not really the games fault, but that's been a part of my experience. All in all though, it's been a blast. I haven't found anything that's really made me regret playing yet, except maybe that ice level. I'd still very much recommend this collection.
Funny thing is this is one of my favorite series (so much so that I collected the physical copies of all the games) but the only ones I've completed to 100% was BN4 then BN5 Then again those were also just the new games at the time and I was a kid so I think tolerance levels were alot higher for me
I've never had all the games physically at once before, but funny enough, I DID manage to find a used copy of Blue Moon(my first Battle Network) from a used game store in my town *right* before the Collection dropped. And I've never gone out of my way to *complete* a Battle Network game, but I got REALLY far into BN5's postgame growing up and remember enjoying it.
@@-ZRG- I got my start with the 1st game way back in the day but traded it for Pokemon Ruby to a friend before I could beat it lol 4 Red Sun was the first one I really played I didn't necessarily go out of my way to complete then it just happened through constant playing haha Only things I didn't get were some of the link/exclusive stuff
LMAO No, 1 and 4 have their merits, but I don't think I could *ever* recommend 4 as an entry point. And I say that as someone whose first BN and SF games were Blue Moon and Zerker X Ninja.☠️ It's frankly a MIRACLE that I ended up being as big of a fan of this MegaMan timeline as I did.
one additional thing. If you prefer the in game navi battles, then for BN3 pick Blue, it has Mr.Famous and his fan designed navi Punk as an additional fight. White may have the single hardest hitting chip in all the game lines history, but Blue also has the most busted chip in it's history, FolderBack.
I'd rather play and beat BN1 6 consecutive times than to touch the trash that is BN4. Playing both Red and Blue to 100% was so agonizing, but I did it for the love of the franchise. Besides some parts of the combat, double soul transformations, boktai cameo and final sequence, It does almost everything else worse in including the music. While BN1 may not have as robust a battle system and may be a bit complicated to navigate fieldwise, It's still a far more entertaining and thrilling experience because they managed to get the pacing and atmosphere on par bettrr than 4 could. Don't be the guy that counts out BN1. You'll be missing out on where all this greatness began.
I may not have phrased myself properly later on, but I think there's still merit to going back to BN1 with the context of what the series became after it as a learning experience. I just can't confidently recommend it as an entry point, because if someone who doesn't have a LOT of patience for more antiquated games went in with no context, it might give them the wrong impression of the series and turn them away.
@@-ZRG- not true! They bought the legacy collection and they have 10 games redilly available to play in any order. If they chose to walk through the BN1 door first and had a lacking experience, they have the option to play the next game to keep their interests high. They already heard about the hype surrounding this game, they just need to find it. Next thing I want to say is that there is a newer version of BN1 on the NDS which unfortunately isn't part of the collection. It's a fair improvement over the GBA game and with new content, I'm sure you already know what that stuff is and hopefully you've played it.
Of the ones I played before this released, 5 was actually my favorite too. However the DS version of 5 was a pretty big improvement over the one featured in the legacy collection as it included a bunch of features that crossover the versions or further integrate the team based mechanics into regular play. Personally preferred Colonel, partially because Protoman's specific navis weren't as much fun to play. I actually started with 4. For as much as everyone dogs on it, goofy writing aside, most of the problems with it are only really apparent if you play another game in the series. Mechanically it's a pretty sound game aside from the inexplicably randomized story, and it heavily sets up the story for the next game. I went back and played the first one, and it's got a bad case of first installment syndrome. It's not a "bad" game, but it's by a wide margin the worst in the series. It's also the easiest since none of the enemies have more than 1000 health and nothing stops you from making a mono-coded chip folder with 10 copies of the same chip, leading you to have a folder with like 10 shockwaves or a bunch of steals and wideswords or aquaswords. It also autoheals Megaman after every fight which is something you take for granted if you move onto another game after. Part of the reason the Powerplant chapter is one of the worst in the series is because they actually take away that mechanic. I don't hate the first one. But what it lacks makes it relatively frustrating compared to every future game. The internet looks the same everywhere, there's no indication of where you are in it, there's no subchips, you got this pointless armor mechanic instead of style changes, and you need to use a chip to escape which you also need to use to trade for a different chip later on. Even the "postgame" feels relatively pointless. The postgame areas look the same as the rest of the internet aside from having purple navis, and you can access them very early on despite the "postgame bosses" not being there, and when you do fight them, they are just regular inexplicable boss battles against characters who are given no introduction. Also, aside from Wily and Higsby, none of the bad guys in this game ever show up again. Kinda sucks because the other WWW operatives had pretty cool designs.
I played BN1 and 2 recently on emulator as they were the only ones I hadn’t played growing up. I decided to replay them when the legacy collection came out and I can safely say that if you are to replay BN1, just use Buster Max mode. It makes getting through the game significantly more palatable. Buster Max mode can also be turned off at any point in time so I spent my time demolishing viruses in seconds and then turning off Buster Max mode to fight bosses since those are pretty much the only interesting parts of BN1 anyway. Also, if it weren’t for Buster Max mode, I would also actually consider BN4 as a good starting point. People always bring up the multiple playthroughs to shit on the game (and rightfully so), but many people tend to forget… you don’t HAVE to go for 100% when playing these games. BN4 is probably one of the easier games in terms of battles, its plot is (mostly) self contained meaning you don’t have to be familiar with the story beforehand, AND it’s the shortest when doing a single playthrough, making it a great way to get a bite sized taste in what the rest of the series can be like. But at the end of the day, I can’t help but just hope we get more Battle Network in the near future. Leg’s hope for more Battle Network!
While yes, BN6 does feed off of Team Colonel more... I'd reccomend playing both versions of 5 honestly. Colonel and Protoman feel different enough mechanically that it kinda makes each version a different ride, not even getting into the forms and how Protoman's souls makes you feel like a destructive god while Colonel's souls make you feel a tactical genius. That and the Bass/Forte-cross megaman forms are both really unique. So... yeah, no. Glad to know I'm not the only one who loved 5.
Common misconception about BN3. Black didn't fix Vanilla's bugs as it still had the same bugs. Both Vanilla and Black got v1.1 releases in Japan later that fixed the bugs. The only difference between Vanilla v1.1 vs. White and Black v1.1 vs. Blue is effectively the language.
Recording BN4 footage for this video was my first time seeing the Cyber Exorcism scenario, and it knocked the WIND out of me. "Fever dream" is almost being generous LMAO
You know, I hadn't really considered that.🤔 I sorta just tunnel visioned into talking about its significance to BN6, but that's yet another point in Colonel's favor as the version to start with.
If you're playing BN5 standalone, you can play either version and they'll be identical aside from version exclusive characters. But if you also plan to play Battle Network 6 at some point, then you'll want to *just* play Team Colonel because there are some character interactions in that version that are *vital* to make sense of a chunk of BN6's plot. My advice would be to start with Colonel, and then if you feel like revisiting BN5 in the future, *then* you can give Protoman a shot to spice things up.
Just a fact, Capcom didn't really care that much about narrative continuity and its meaningless because both games have unique dialogues. They expect you to play both versions anyway for BN5. So don't over think much about it. Also in Team Protoman, there are as much details that is only exclusive there as much as it is in team Colonel like Cosmoman is Sharo's Nebula leader and Lan and Dr Regal acknowledging Tadashi Hikari was helping Lan and Hub.
I don’t care people think bn 4 is a black sheep, red sun is my first introduction to bn then later starforce. When I got legacy collection I start playing red sun
I've got to be honest. I'd always heard that BN3 was the paragon of the series' narratives. Id never played it before the Legacy Collection, I had onky ever played 4,5, and 6. So I started with 2 and did 3. And not only do I think that 3's story is highly overrated (it has some good stuff but lacks any compelling throughline to drive the plot for the first 3/4 of the story other than vague references of WWW being back which Lan freaks about for a second and then shrugs and forgets it), but I think *2* has the best story in the series. Gospel feels like a legitimate threat that is both dangerous and always one step ahead of you. It's the darkest and has many memorable moments. The castle dungeon scenario was genuinely upsetting, for instance. 2's narrative is only let down by the villain, sadly.
Honestly I rather play Team Protoman more than Team Colornel. I found Team Protoman to be more fun to play in comparison. As far as this collection goes I;m goonna play the entire series from the start. Starting with: BN1 BN2 BN3 Blue BN4 Blue Moon BN5 Team Protoman BN6 Cybeast Gregar.
I wanna say play them all but put on that max blaster for parts that will cause you pain and stress don't feel bad if they put in the game they even knew some fights are rough . I'm looking at you magicman mmbn1 I say this but I clearly am a masochist for mmbn3 end game and serenade and don't want to use the max buster 😅
On my very first run of 4 I got the proto soul, for what ever reason I deleted my save file, every subsequent playthrough I couldn't get it until atleast the new game+, just awful
I don't get the hate for 1. It's a ton of fun, a great vanilla version of all the other battle network titles you're about to get into, and it's SHORT. You can finish it without 100%ing it in under 6 or so hours, easily. I think I finished it on my live stream in two sittings of 3 hours and that was with bsing with the chat, dying twice and having to redo large sections. 2 however? NOTHING TO SAY ZRG?? NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT BACKTRACKING THE ENTIRE STORYLINE? WHAT ABOUT THE ICE. THE KEYMAKER. UHGHGHasfASHEDJFKABSDFlef in short, I hate BN2 because it's worse in every way to BN1 despite having the first iteration of what would become double soul
There's a good bit of racism (sometimes subtle, sometimes not) when it comes to game journalists covering Japanese games, especially RPGs. And I needed to hit my quota for Adam Sessler shit-talking one way or another, and his BN6 X-Play review is...certainly one for the books.
HAPPY BNLC RELEASE DAY, EVERYBODY!!
Which game in the Collection are you looking forward to playing the most?
3 and 4 honestly
All of them!!!
Yes even 1.... I'm that brave/insane soul.
BN 1 and 2 mostly because I started on 3 and never got to play them.
5 and 6! They're easily my 2 favourite. But I got into the series with BN4 and never played 1, 2, and 3 so I'm looking forward to those as well.
@@pokelogikx legs go Lan!
Fun fact about the Max Buster mode. It actually scales up with your power ups. So you could start with a flat 100 but end up with 200+ damage done with the buster. I even ended up just killing the Life Virus in BM1 in less than 2 seconds because the damage was so high
I've yet to unlock BeastOut in BN6, but the thought of giving Buster MAX to GREGAR Beast MegaMan is tantalizing with this information.👀
Just played through MMBN 1-6 in order. I can't even explain how much i enjoyed it haha. So much fun
I see you.
I started with BN5 DS. Ended up playing it on both sides and finishing both.
It took me a week when I was a kid but I had no Internet was on a trip even had gey my cousins to help out but they couldn't get the code.
OMG IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. Took me years till I got internet to be able to move forward from that part
Obnoxiously obtuse is a good way to describe most of the puzzles and figuring out where to go next in the whole franchise lol
If i remember correctly. The 1st playthrough is set in stone. You'll always get certain souls. Its the new game plus that randomizes.
Same here.
I mean, kid me was slow enough mentally that I'd gotten stuck at the *Sci-Lab Main Computer* when I first played BN5, so I definitely have my share of...ROUGH memories with the game too lmao
And I hope that your time with the games is a great one!
Im glad to see this. Here i thought I was just bad. But apparently BN5 has a rep. TIL.
You play 6 for gameplay and a nostalgic story.
You play 3 for story and broken as heck gameplay.
You play or ignore 5 for its Liberation missions
There's also Folder Back in BN3 Blue which is the most broken Giga chop ever
As a huge BN fan, I am so happy that the collection is finally out!😄
Absolutely! It's felt like a LONG wait, but that patience seems to be paying off BIG TIME if the sales of the collection in Japan are any indication.
Excellent vid I'd say and the only thing I'd say you missed are the alternate DS versions of BN1 and 5 not included in legacy collection
Operate Shooting Star is far and away the definitive release of game 1, it has map feature, you can run with the L button like the rest of the series along with some minor crossover content with StarForce and little improvements in the dungeons that go a long way, if makes Battle Network 1 actually playable and if you just have to play it it's gotta be this version if nothing else it'll reduce the guide syndrome thanks to the map, you can easily find a fan translation for it
There's also 5 Double Team which adds quite a lot actually, it adds Sol Cross by putting a copy of Boktai in the GBA slot, compatibility with the other BN GBA games including 5 which I think is really neat, the party system is a way to play with the navis outside of liberations and makes Internet traversal easier hell they even com with a mini Navi Cust and during liberation missions the ability to switch a member for their opposite version counterpoint (swapping Numberman for Searchman for example).
( being able to swap Numberman for Searchman is a gift i will never forget )
Great video man!
So.. I guess saying my first introduction to the series was, in fact, Red Sun is a bad thing lol. I do however, love the series and am so happy it's been rereleased. I hope more people get in on the BN series so maybe we can get Star Force as well.
Ohhhhhh, it was Star Force I played through
When I was eagerly waiting your personal favourite bit and you were like 'the old heads won't like this" I was 1000% expecting bn4 when you said 5 I legitimately said out loud, "THANK FUCK" 😅
But yeah I'm so happy they've brought back mmbn, I'm really hoping it gets noticed this time round. A battle network 7 would be so hype, let's pray this does well!
I will serve as BN5's strongest and even ONLY soldier if need be for as long as possible.🫡
And I would *kill* for a new game in the Battle Network universe, even if they brand it differently. If OSS is any indication, there's almost 200 years between BN1 and SF3, so there's still a LOT they could do if they want to.
Yeaaahhh! Battle Network 5's getting the praise and defense it deserves.
I will fight for BN5 for as LONG as it takes! Absolutely adore that game and what it brought to the series~
Battle Network 4 Blue Moon is my favorite!!!
Despite my issues with it, I'm looking forward to playing BN4 in the collection w/Patch Cards since Blue Moon was my first Battle Network!
SOMEONE IN AN NT WARDIOR VIDEO COMPLEMENTED STSR FORCE. I LOVE THIS VIDEO
We RIOT if an eventual Star Force collection doesn't replicate the design of a Transer and puts Omega-Xis in the menus like MegaMan is in this one.
Yeah, I definitely think the *Post-game* Liberations are a bit questionable just because of the enemy layouts, but I adore the main story ones.
*whispers* BN 4 also has the best boss fights, and general single player boss experience in the series
10:42 FINALLY! Someone understands why it’s good!
Thank you for the kind words, and I wish you the best of luck!
@@-ZRG- Okay, I have a question:
How do you deal with the Code part of the battle system?
Yeah, BN1 certainly has something resembling "map design", that's for sure.
Having to wait till tuesday at the time of writing to get my copy; and I do intend to play ALL of the games. Maybe even the alternate versions. All to 100% completion. So I can't really skip BN1. I'm hoping the download chip of bass will make things a LITTLE more bearable.
This collection was my first exposure to the Bass chip in BN1, and believe me, it DECIMATES early game encounters when it shows up.
@@pokeperson1000 I’m gonna go in there raw, but if I can make it through 4 three times I can do this
That's honestly a good way to approach BN1 in my opinion.
If I payed for 10 games,then I'm playing 10 games dammit 😂😂
Another reason why you should stick to Team Colonel is because Capcom was not thinking when they designed Team Protoman for the liberation missions. They may be stronger in battle (except for Meddy), but they did not design liberation missions around Magnetman, Napalmman or Meddy's abilities.
Thanks for the shoutouts! Really appreciate it.
My pleasure! Thank *you* for putting out those videos, they're saving my ass in BN5's postgame right now.☠️
Here's to your Marathon going well!
@@-ZRG- No prob! Marathon's going great, getting around to BN2
Funny thing is this is one of my favorite series (so much so that I collected the physical copies of all the games) but the only ones I've completed to 100% was BN4 then BN5
Then again those were also just the new games at the time and I was a kid so I think tolerance levels were alot higher for me
I've never had all the games physically at once before, but funny enough, I DID manage to find a used copy of Blue Moon(my first Battle Network) from a used game store in my town *right* before the Collection dropped.
And I've never gone out of my way to *complete* a Battle Network game, but I got REALLY far into BN5's postgame growing up and remember enjoying it.
@@-ZRG- I got my start with the 1st game way back in the day but traded it for Pokemon Ruby to a friend before I could beat it lol
4 Red Sun was the first one I really played
I didn't necessarily go out of my way to complete then it just happened through constant playing haha
Only things I didn't get were some of the link/exclusive stuff
I too love battle network 5, its the first one im playing thru right now
Personal choice: for a gooood second, I thought you were gonna say 4. THEN we were gonna have a problem. lol
LMAO No, 1 and 4 have their merits, but I don't think I could *ever* recommend 4 as an entry point. And I say that as someone whose first BN and SF games were Blue Moon and Zerker X Ninja.☠️
It's frankly a MIRACLE that I ended up being as big of a fan of this MegaMan timeline as I did.
one additional thing.
Falzar is a good boy because he can fly over pits.
Oh yeah, Falzar having the "Shoes" upgrades baked in is ABSURD compared to Gregar.
Played the games as a kid and beat them 100% doing the same with this one I did 6 1 and. 2 working on 3 then 4 last 5 then I’ve finished the game 100%
0:59 I NEED a 2DHD (, like Octopath Traveler) Battle Network 7 with these updated graphics on the chips
Amazon sold out of Switch copies on just pre orders, so safe to say it was fairly successful lol
Still waiting on my pre order copy
Yeah, all things considered, the collection seems to be doing REALLY well.
I've still got to see about getting a physical copy at some point.☠️
I LOVE battlenetwork 5 holy fuck good choiche. The game asks you to GET GOOOD
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BN 5 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Same BN 5 is my favorite.
BN5 Colonel all the way, though I always wanted to play Protoman
I actually enjoyed the first battle Network in the legacy collection. But I had Max buster mode on.
I'm playing them all in order. I'm nearly finished getting all the chips in MMBN1. The low V3 encounter rates are the only painful point
BN4 is like the fever dream of the series
Recording BN4 footage for this video was my first time seeing the Cyber Exorcism scenario, and it knocked the WIND out of me. "Fever dream" is almost being generous LMAO
Team colonel is also better since it's balanced attack/defense and protoman is all offense and easier to mess up with, if you are new go colonel.
You know, I hadn't really considered that.🤔
I sorta just tunnel visioned into talking about its significance to BN6, but that's yet another point in Colonel's favor as the version to start with.
@@-ZRG- COLONEL GREGAR FOR LIFE FUCK FALZAR SCRUBS
Explains why i enjoy protoman, my over all play style in games is to be a force of nature and decimate everything
@@JustBrandon-i Protoman was developed first btw so the maps fit them more.
I want to get into BN5. So, should I play the Colonel Team first, then ProtoMan Team? Or I can choose whatever Team I like?
If you're playing BN5 standalone, you can play either version and they'll be identical aside from version exclusive characters.
But if you also plan to play Battle Network 6 at some point, then you'll want to *just* play Team Colonel because there are some character interactions in that version that are *vital* to make sense of a chunk of BN6's plot.
My advice would be to start with Colonel, and then if you feel like revisiting BN5 in the future, *then* you can give Protoman a shot to spice things up.
Great Video!
Thank you for watching!
I love 5 Colonel. Lol I think I'm gonna do Protoman because I didn't play it even in the DS version.
YESS HYPED AHHH XD
Mmbn5 is my favorite in the series!
Has anyone ever wondered what would happen if the internet of the battle network universe was just turned off?
i want to play bn2 as i havent yet
You play them in the order 1-2-3white-4redsun-5protoman-6gregar-3blue-4bluemoon-5colonel-6falzar
Honestly I rather play Team Protoman more than Team Colornel. I found Team Protoman to be more fun to play in comparison.
As far as this collection goes I;m goonna play the entire series from the start.
Starting with:
BN1
BN2
BN3 Blue
BN4 Blue Moon
BN5 Team Protoman
BN6 Cybeast Gregar.
Red sun is the one in the protoman-gregar timeline, also you need to beat the other 4 for the achievements as there's one for each version
I played in that exact order and flipped 1 and 2. (Glad I started at 2 tbh)
Are there any gba hacks that combine version exclusive content? I saw someone hack in white chips into blue version. etc
I wanna say play them all but put on that max blaster for parts that will cause you pain and stress don't feel bad if they put in the game they even knew some fights are rough . I'm looking at you magicman mmbn1
I say this but I clearly am a masochist for mmbn3 end game and serenade and don't want to use the max buster 😅
I love Colonel soul too much to disagree with your take on bn5. It's the version I return to for a reason👍
I beat megaman 1 and got 3* on bn2 now im trying to 100% bn6
The legacy collection has just been so fun. I think im eventually gonna beat all of them
😍😍😍🔥
BN4 truly is so bad that it's good lmao
I recommend bn 4
Literally no one does
@@nadloes6343 I just did
I can recommend BN4, for sure. But as someone whose first BN was Blue Moon, I wouldn't dare wish that to be someone's *first* exposure to the series.😅
On my very first run of 4 I got the proto soul, for what ever reason I deleted my save file, every subsequent playthrough I couldn't get it until atleast the new game+, just awful
If y'all love DMC 1 then DMC 2 is good, both games have super amounts of jank.
UHGHGHasfASHEDJFKABSDFlef
in short, I hate BN2 because it's worse in every way to BN1 despite having the first iteration of what would become double soul
Context on the racist journalists? 0:53
i liked 1
I personally disliked battle network 5s turn phase system (idk what it's called)
I prefer the freedom of movement the other games have
What's this about racist game journalists now?
There's a good bit of racism (sometimes subtle, sometimes not) when it comes to game journalists covering Japanese games, especially RPGs.
And I needed to hit my quota for Adam Sessler shit-talking one way or another, and his BN6 X-Play review is...certainly one for the books.
I legitimately have no idea what racist game journalist you are talking about, can someone please explain
Thanks for the tips! I knew about quint but not yukki's channel. o.o)b much appreciation for such a smooth rundown.
I'd discovered Yukki pretty recently myself, so I'm more than happy to spread the word on other creators! And thank you for the kind words!
