Battle Network is peak Mega Man. With that in mind, you may be curious about the lows of the series. Well, I've got you covered. It's time to talk about X7... - ua-cam.com/video/XJOcXCvYCjY/v-deo.html
Hey matty you should do a video on the Megaman NT Warrior seasons 1 and 2 alongside Rockman.exe Stream and Rockman.exe Beast/Beast+
Mostly because i feel like this anime/cartoon series doesnt get enough time to shine as the games do. The anime/cartoon series covers the 6 games.
@@G59THCEmperor Oh that's great idea! I hope he do it!
Battle network peak megaman ... lol
No it wasn't... peak megaman was years before that. Megaman was on life surport during this time and was dead not long after. As someone who was thier from beginning saying this was peak megaman is ridiculous
This was every day of my childhood. One of the last birthday presents my mother ever bought me while she was alive was MMBN5 Team Protoman. So many feelings right now haha.
boglum profile picture, nice
my mom got me Team Colonel. I really like the tactical elements they added.
Broooo… anytime I get sad I remember my mom buying this for me for getting good grades … we went to toysrus to buy it I still think of that memory to get happy, and sadly she passed away as well… but MMBN3 really has the hardest memories for me
Much love man
As someone who recently lost his father I can relate on a metaphysical level man lol. Not a single moment goes by that I don’t think of something my dad said or did for me and I bust out in tears. Sometimes I laugh remembering how funny he was! Anyone who says you can’t cry about it or something can get fucked. A boss I had told me once: “If someone tells you not to cry or it’s been so long since they passed why are you still crying? That person never gave a fuck about their family or anyone in the first place!” I know it’s kinda mean but that shit is most assuredly true in my experience.
I wish more retro games would be released this way instead of being added to Nintendo Online. Or at least provide this alternative! I like to own my games
Wait... games get added to Nintendo Online? You sure about that =P
Yeah, the Sega Genesis Collection and Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection before it were amazing. Imagine a Super NES Collection like that.
Exactly, I don't want to pay for NSO just to play Mario 1, 2, 3, and World.
I just love all these capcom collections, I buy them all physically any chance i get, forget paying a rental fee for old games.
Don't forget the bonus content they would most likely skip over in a lazy switch online port. Oh and online definitely would not exist
I absolutely adore this series. Battle Network was actually the reason I got an interest in the internet and networks as a kid, which I ended up choosing as a major for in college. Really hope this collection gives it the attention it deserves.
Playing this game is going to bring back so much nostalgia, I remember emulating so many gba games back when I was younger. Couldn’t get enough of the classics like this, pokemon, yugioh, etc. Something about old gba games just hits different
This comment hit different 😭
U should try astroboy on the gba that game is so goated its got so much replay ability too u kinda have to replay it too
My only wish is that they eventually release the spin-offs as DLC. Battle Chip Challenge was a lot of fun, and I’d love to play it again!
What about Network Transmission on Gamecube? That was my first Mega Man EXE game, I was a huge classic and X fan and I always saw Battle Network as "the lame Mega Man" my opinion has changed since I actually played a bit of Battle Network 1 on Wii U Virtual Console.
Honestly there's enough side games in the entire franchise that weren't included in previous collections that they could probably just make a whole collection just for them. It's been long enough that it's unlikely we will ever see them be added to previous collections as DLC, so my guess is that it's more likely for them to just drop a big collection of them at some point once the mainline series all get their own legacy collections.
Holy crap you unlocked a memory dude. Battle Chip Challenge was amazing.
I really hope they release network transmission. I remember that game being stupidly hard and want to see if I can beat it
I'm surprised they didn't include Battle Chip Challenge.
Star Force is not a spiritual successor to Battle Network. It's a series set 100 years after the events - a sequel.
*200 years
BN took place in 200X while SF took place in 220X.
I didn’t know that!
@@kiko8290 Just the first game talked about how things transitioned since the 200 year time skip. The PET became obsolete and was succeeded by the Transer (there’s a junkyard filled with PETs from Battle Network 6), people use Battle Cards instead of Battle Chips, NetNavis became obsolete and turned into Navi Cards, people stopped using the internet and use EM Waves instead, and the instruction manual has a silhouette of MegaMan.EXE and tells you that you can find a certain NetNavi if you insert any Battle Network cartridge into the GBA slot.
Indeed, remember in starforce 1 u go to the dumpster n find a p.e.t mountain
Yep it's a direct sequel to battle network, set 200 after now MegaMan is an alien.
On the subject of escaping, only battle network 1 lacked an escape option that didn't require a chip, but it's also the only game in the series where you automatically heal after every battle, so at least there's that. BusterMax definitely seems like it'll help get through the more tedious parts of BN1 for newer players, and maybe even series veterans who just can't be bothered to farm a good folder, but want to experience the game again.
I do agree that not including a map (like they did in the DS re-release) or updating the BN1 system to include an escape option are missed opportunities though.
The MMBN gameplay is ONE of a kind. Starforce was fun but not having the full grid made it feel off. I am so glad to have this collection in my hands soon.
Yeah, I agree. In my opinion, Starforce combat was a BIG DOWNGRADE compared to Battle Network. I couldn't get into Starforce when I was a kid, but loved Battle Network.
the grid being difrent was one of the main reasons i never bought the starforce games even though i really loved the BN games 1 through 6
Nah starforce was the superior one
Imo
Starforce shouldve just kept the same combat grid and camera, and made a few tweaks, could never get into it, even though i tried multiple times
What have you been smoking? To escape in BNE1 you needed an escape chip, for the rest you just have to press the L bumper and hope the virus doesn't prevent your escape for that round.
Tbh, Escape being a button is a thing since BN2. You have to be in the Custom Window and in the OG game you press R and Megaman will ask if you want to run away.
As childhood who grow up with megaman, this series hold in very special place in my heart and of course i will buy it the day the game came out. How long we all been waiting for this day.

for new players. megaman bn 3 Blue is equivalent to the black version in japan, which had additional chips/fights and is considered the cannon/better version. White is probably better for speedruns. 4-6 have two timelines. red sun->colonel -> gregar and then blue moon->protoman-> falzar. mmbn 5 has a similar issue to 3, where protoman came out 6 months before colonel, so the colonel version has more information in it.
Thanks. I've only played 3/4 and wanted to know which versions of 5 and 6 to play. Which of those 2 combinations would you recommend to do first? I plan to play all the games but don't wanna do the same numbered games back to back.
I thought Colonel was the canon version for both timelines, since both Gregar and Falzar mention him and feature him.
@@SpideyfanX I keep hearing different things from different players. I might just stop worrying about it and just pick a version that seems cooler to me.
I'm going to reply just so i can hopefully be notified of a like and find this comment later when I'm trying to decide my path

Just in time.

Absolutely cant wait for this collection! It warms my heart to see so many fans excited for this as well, and to see all the love that has been put into the collection. Been a huge fan ever since the early 2000's, and still have every single entry/version on gba, after all these years. I never thought we'd be able to play these games in hd, and all in one place like this. It's a gaming dream come true!
Dude, I love how Capcom is making it actually possible for me to finally access the end game content for all of these games now. I'm definitely using Buster max for some of these games, ESPECIALLY BN3 & BN5.
I absolutely loved this series growing up. The only game that was close to combat and play style was a game called One Step From Eden. It has a bigger grid to work with, much faster combat, interesting mechanics for other characters. It's a really good Battle Network clone worth the challenge. I'd love to see your review on it if you haven't already. I'm new to this channel. Great video mate.
I think Kingdom Hearts COM was close but this was my fav until COM but I think I played COM after Golden Sun XD
shut up. tottally different
@@pooch_dawg where do you find these mods?
Don't forget to see the manga they released for the legacy collection! They got the original MMBN Manga illustrator Ryo Takamisaki to return to create one final chapter for the series that takes place 20 years after the end of the manga series. Really hits you in the feels since it parallels the 20 years that have passed irl :')
This series is fire, the introduction of dark chips, to the turn based system in 5, and the cool Cybeast forms + styles, chef's kiss*
This was my CHILDHOOD BRO. I’ve been goin nutty on em. These are by far the best MM games of all time.
When it comes to version differences, to be fair, Team Colonel and Team Protoman are very different games. Blue and White also had exclusive bosses. Not sure about 6, but there's more differences than exclusive battle chips.
Double team would still be nice
version 6 has exclusive bosses/forms and even a different final boss. Its definitely a lot different.
@@bestaround3323 i wish we got double team! 😢 i have the og copy though
I think blue was actually released after white version? Most people recommend blue over white because folder back is op. But I don’t think white and blue were supposed to be seen as different versions, blue was released as Black in Japan only and was released as an upgrade actually.
@@Memnion you're right about FldrBack but where did you hear all that other stuff? None of that is accurate.
I pray we get a starforce collection. Those are my favorite megaman games and i hope more people will be able to play them.
Same l. I wonder if they will go back and work on stat force 4. I highly doubt it'll happen, but one can dream
starforce DX rom hack will probably trounce anything official
Star force and Legends are so short that i wouldnt be surprised if they bundle both series together because selling them separately would be a rip off.
It's obvious at this point that every series is getting legacy collections. My guess is we will get Starforce in 2 or 3 years, and then Legends 2 or 3 years after that.
@@Klonoahedgehog Not necessarily, depends on how the collections are handled and how much they cost. It's possible that they could get more of a remastered treatment compared to previous collections, for example.
Absolutely picking up this collection. The only thing is, I wish they would have included Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge to have all the GBA releases in this collection. Also, I'm in the minority but I'd love a Mega Man Star Force collection as well.
I doubt you're the minority where Star Force is concerned. Because I'm also hoping that will be the next collection on the way.
@@shawnbenjamin9636 Most people weren't fans of it, at least, nowhere as liked as Battle Network.
@@shawnbenjamin9636 i really hope legends is next, even if it's just a straight emulation of the PSX ones.
I hope these sell well so that they will port the Starforce series too. I've only played the first one and if you like Battle Network then you may like it too.
I bought Mega Man Legacy collection and Mega Man X Legacy Collection.
I'm absolutely addicted to Mega Man now.
I've played through and beaten MM1 - 11, X, X2 and now I'm half way through X3.
I'm not sure how long it will take to finish X4, X5, X6, X7 and X8, but if I did buy Battle Network it probably will be a while from now.
These games are amazing - especially at the STEAM sale value. I got all of them for less than $50.
30 years of awesome.
Battle Network being re-released has given me so much hope. StarForce next
My first GBA game and my first Megaman game. This (and Legends) are THE collections I wanted most. You know I have that pre-order on lock.
Can't wait to relive memories. I know the stories over but would love a BN7.
The timing of this collection is kinda crazy... About half a year ago I was looking back on childhood games that would actually hold up for me today, and man am I glad I remembered how much I played the first MMBN alone. My friend used to have them all on an emulator, I was just so impressed, it's so cool to finally play what I always dreamt of as a kid. That's a really cool thing in general, some games were so hard I never saw what's deeper into the game, now I get to see it even if I don't wanna play.
Never played Bat Net. Looking forward to getting it on switch and trying it out!
this game really test your deckbuilding and netbattling skills.
the game has a different approach. with the exception of 2 bosses (and a couple of post game content gimmick) you do not need to be the best deckbuilder ever, you can still get access to almost everything the game has to offer by improvvising.
but a top of the line deck can basically one-shot the supersecret boss, and the various chip have some unexpected interaction (the ones that put an obstacle completelly disable one of the most dangerous enemy in the serie, for example).
it's a play-like-you-want kind of game, and there's a lot of possibilities
Always write down combinations so you can use them for ranked later on
Watching all the reviews for this game even though I already pre-ordered two different copies and know darn well I'm gonna love them lol.
Never played these growing up. Can’t wait to play these on Friday!

It becomes very addicting. I would recommend trying it without buster max mode 1-6 in order for a nice experience.

Oh man, have fun! 😊

NO. Just NO. Skip number one, it's very much first game syndrome. If you do play it, use Buster MAX for at least the random battles. It'd be best to skip tho.
Starting with 2 is perfectly fine. 2&3 have the best story by far, 5&6 have the best gameplay. One is very rough around the edges and hard to sit through. Can easily give a bad first impression for the series. Four also has a lot of issues that can leave a bad taste in their mouth. Namely due to RNG on unlocking MegaMan Transformations and needing to not just beat the game, but to beat New Game Plus. . . twice to only potentially seeing all content if RNG goes exactly the way it needs to.
I'd recommend one of the following play orders
If you want to experience the series, play 2,3,5 and 6
If you want the best stories, play 2 and 3
If you want the most fun battles with meh stories, play 5 and 6.
Only after completing 2,3,5, and 6, should you play 1 or 4 IMHO.
I played the hell out of 3 blue, and was curious about the first 2 but never found them, and had no idea there were more after that. I'm pumped to play these games!
This was one of the collections i wanted to see and play. Honestly one of the most fun rpg games from the GBA era.
And now ith online i am more hyped for it.
I don't know why it warms my heart, but I've been looking for a physical copy in my area (other than GameStop; I refuse to break my streak of not shopping there) and they're sold out. Amazon/Best Buy/ Target online? Gone until Mid May.
Call it limited stock or preorder scalping, people are actually buying up the nostalgia of my teenage years and liking it😊
Other BN-like games include One Step From Eden, like you said, and also the unreleased Net Knight, and my personal favorite, Shanghai.EXE. I love this genre and hope it spawns more similar titles.
in regards to the trophies, guaranteed there is a trophy for hunting Bass in his most powerful form in each game. and they mentioned using buster max would not count towards time bonuses or 'real' defeats so beating him in that mode might not allow you to have the defeating bass random encounter version trophy. the story/forced encounters you probably get the marks for though. Havent played the game, but assuming based on all the live streams.
Did you ever try “one step from Eden” it has very similar combat but is rouge-like and was waaaay to hard for me. Loved playing the first BattleNetwork game as a kid and still liked it when I actually finished it recently! Super excited for this collection so more ppl can play the series!
…still wish they added an in game map tho lol
Would it be recommendable for an 8 year old? I played it when I was younger and loved the games but I was like 13-17 when the games came out. My nephew is 8 and im trying to get him more into console gaming, this series just seems a tad bit harder than most. I just used the chips & the soul unison thing & never used any program advances.
my friends and i played in 4th grade, so 9yo. was great. we had older friends who helped us sometimes.
the temptation to bustermax everything might be strong at 8 yo
I do want a 3d sandbox version of BN1. I think it would be easy to do and quick. Keep gameplay 9 v 9 square but make 2.5d.... So you run gta style in real world, then jack in to an online 3d world. It would be siiiiccckkkkkk
Hey Matty! You forgot to explain the combat systems best part! Say you have a cannon A B C put them in your battle slots in that order and you get a new Chip System Attack. It fixes that "used your chips now buster time" mode we get into. There are SO MANY chip combos for AMAZING ATTACKS!
“What other game has this gameplay?”
*thinks back to that one ninjago flash game*
Never seen a video from you before but your passion for this franchise shows, which I loved as a kid btw. Subbed
Anyone who makes BN videos is a legend in my eyes. You love to see this series get the love it deserves from it's cherished fans, and newcomers
It’s a masterpiece collection I stand by that and now don’t expect these titles to show up on switch GBA subscription. Tbh though this is better since you can buy the games versus switch expansion pack subscription. So go ahead and enjoy it!
I personally believe the only reason they split th collection in two is because Battle network 4, 5 and 6 have the Boktai stuff in them, which isnt owned by Capcom so when the license expires they can take down 4, 5 and 6 but keep selling 1, 2 and 3 which is fully owned by them.
one thing I wish Capcom did with collection releases is QoL and general game design improvements. If you look at X5 an X6, both those games are plagued with design issues, but there are amazing fan patches out there that improve them. Yet Capcom didn't learn from those and try to apply such improvements to their games, which is disappointing. I get it, they want to preserve the games the way there are, but I really think it'd be worth patching and upgrading the games to better fit today's standards.
Will the physical release have all the volumes or I will have to download half the game on release?
Yes
I believe in Europe it's only digital and in 2 parts :(
He'll yeah my man!! It's finally out!! 🙌😁 been waiting 20 years for this to get a online matchmaking mode!! Soooo pumped!! Nice Review btw! Hope to one day have a online battle with u Matty!
Is the airplane rapping scene in BN2 censored/changed?!?
Most likely not. They've alluded to not messing with the dialogues.
Now i have a doubt, does the physical Switch edition comes with all games on the little chip thingy? or does it only include the first 3 and you have to download de rest?
All of them
Are there save states in the collection like in the Switch online emulators? Also do we get to use/customize the extra buttons? (X,Y,ZR,LR)
Matty can you tell me if they made that castle 100 mini game better in Battle Network 5? Cause I remember that being a pain back in the day.
Think it's bad on a GameBoy? Try on an emulator with no real buttons, that mini-game is legitimately the single worst thing in the entire series.
Lmao I remember that minigame
Takes me a few days to beat it
Oh, boy. I remember that mini game. It took me a while to get through that. If anything, it helps to better your reaction time.
Good video, I too grew up on the series. Always thought it was under appreciated, but I mean come on, the games were fire, the anime was fire, even the toys were fire. I think what “hurt” it was it was more complicated than pokemon, not being “turn based” RPGs
Dude growing up in Japan from 99’-04’ this is core childhood memory. I remember getting the battle network figured along with the chips and portable PET ! Thanks for posting man !
Just got it on the switch and haven’t put it down. As soon as I heard the music, I was smiling from ear to ear.
I loved these games as a kid. I think I am going to enjoy this game. I have had it on the switch since last week, and might stay up early hours Friday to play them.
Finally a non-clickbait title from one of your channels. Feels like after all this time you’re better than than that/the channels have matured enough.
*How many save slots per game?*
I don't want my little cousins erasing eachothers save files (or mine) in order to start a game of their own.
I've just realized at 19:33 that the sound effect for the MegaBuster doing damage on enemies is 100% a sound effect that comes from MegaMan Legends, I don't remember if Legends 1 has that but Legends 2, absolutely it's the same sound for hutting enemies with your buster!
I dont really use my switch. Is it the same if i get it for my PS?
Surprised you didn’t mention One Step From Eden (unless I missed it). The gameplay is directly inspired by the Battle Network games albeit in a Roguelite format. It also gets pretty challenging and if by chance you never heard of it I really recommend checking it out. I’m sure you’d love it!
EDIT: as AlkanetEXE pointed out Matt did mention it around 15:20, my bad
He shouts it out around 15:10-15-30
@@AlkanetEXE gawd damn he did! My bad I was watching this vid in the background so I had a feeling I might’ve missed it thanks 🙏

Fun little tidbit for those that don't know, the MMBN2 Gospel Download Chips have their own Program Advance as well. Thankfully it's not til endgame but see if you can find out!
it’s absolutely crazy to think about that. We have refrigerators and other appliances that also connect to the Internet now that has Wi-Fi Built in them
I would love to see a Megan StarForce legacy collection even though there is only 3
I'm glad the high resolution filter is optional. It looks like smearing vaseline over your screen. Original pixelated looks quite a bit better.
Well, if I bought it digitally I realized that it was a global release and the package cost me 48 dollars for buying it in the Japanese Nintendo eshop. It was a little more expensive than I thought, but PayPal charged a 10% commission for currency exchange.
Wow. I've recently gotten into emulation handhelds and wasn't planning on picking this up (especially not with the current GBA/reto games bundles they've released) but this is a pretty enticing buy. I'm really happy about that too, I want a reason to get excited to spend money to revisit my favorite old games! If they were to just re-release the same old game with no changes I'd have no real reason to get excited...

Nice video!
Just a little thing, you mentioned that there is nobody using this kind of combat system
A year ago more or less a game called EndCycle VS was released, they created a game based on this MBN battle system and it's really cool, it's more for people who want to battle online but there is also a 'history mode' where you can practice, get 'chips' and so on
Funny that the BN2 border has the colors for Team and Guts styles swapped so its HeatTeam and ElecGuts, normally the art shows HeatGuts and ElecTeam.
I mean, it is if you don't mind giving Denuvo Anti-Tamper complete and unrevokable control over your computer.
In a sane world, what Denuvo Anti-Tamper does would be a felony.
Yeah that's the thing I worried about this collection.
I'm really looking forward to online battles. I've always thought even way back when the DS added wifi that that would have been one of the best additions to this series because of how crazy builds can be
Download Chips can be used on all games? or it's one time use on game that you download it?
Thats what I want to know too, lol.
Edit: There is a page that states that these are special battle chips for download, for each game.
I hope mega man star force get added to the switch as well. But I do not know if it a star force only side or is the cross over added to network. I like to know if it is on the network game. As far as I know about it is, you are playing I think network 1 with added missions with star force mega man and battles.
Capcom has the TV show for free on their UA-cam for a limited time!!!! Will be up for about a year
There is a dedicated chip to escape battles with. Great video👍

YES I SAID IT
Solid review brother. I do wish they modernized the older games and to be quite frank..... I wish they put in MMBN SS. I'll look forward in to doing the achievements. If there's any pvp ones I'll be furious.
I do think it's a little odd that you called the codes as family like it's a type. Very minor nitpick.
I think the disclaimer is because Dex is drawn in that cursed way with his lips. They could totes change the text and it'd be much easier!
Still, looks like a dope collection, and I've never played past 3. Will take a look!
Question, is there an option in the settings to have a full screen and not have those borders during gameplay?
Yeah that’s with all the LC collections you can also just disable them and have black borders as well
Definitely buying this one physical for the full collection on one cart! 😄
Turns out there is SOME differences between the Legacy Collection and North American GBA versions of these games. Turns out, the Legacy Collection versions of the games is based on the original Japanese GBA releases, so Zenny pick up amounts and even when data shows up in game is different, adjusted to the Japanese versions of the games. That said, they still kept the translations as is… it would have been cool if they could have fixed the grammar, but hey… I’m just glad to have the series again. 😊😊
With all due respect to all their effort - how comes these remasters always put on the ugliest non-pixelated fonts? Isn't it obvious that this new font feels anachronistic and off-putting? Your paid job is to make a remaster that the fans will like - you are literally paid to keep the font as it was, and not do anything new with it - just keep the old fonts.
I know you mentioned dialogue going unchanged, but were the grammar mistakes fixed? Like are there "so many electrical store"?
Watched a different review and it seems like besides the boktai(?) event which wasnt in the original non-JP versions, all translations are kept the same. So ya, Legs go Lan!

Protoman makes more sense in game than Colonel does, but BN6 makes more sense if you know who Colonel is (So if you want it to flow better in game, Protoman is better, if you want slightly better continuity for 6, Colonel is better)
@@randomcatname7792 Sounds like the best experience is to just play both. If I plan to play every game in the collection which order do you think is best?
1 is horribly unwhieldy, as you expect from a first game, but the good starts from there
2 is the one with most walking back and forth
5 experience changes a lot between version, and the gimmick of liberation mission is a split 50/50 for love it or hate it
6 really goes full meta. also, it seems this version will re-introduce that area that was cut from the EU/USA version
honestly capcoms been on a roll lately, they've been putting so much time and effort into their remakes/remasters!! except resi 3 remake we ignore that one, it never existed
THEY LITERALLY brought back online play for a game that's old af right now, AND added extra features like your own net navi megaman who talks to you
this just makes me want dino crisis remake even mor
Stealing my money more like..... another money making attempt, give it up Capcom.
Do you know if all the games are included physically on the physical version?
Kept forgetting to check out Retro Rebound until UA-cam today finally did its job and recommended this to me.
Probably helps that I watch a LOT of Battle Network content lol.
An interesting thing with the Buster MAX mode as an option is the ranking system actually penalizes you for using the Buster per shot, so while it is great to have you won't be getting S ranks with it in most cases.
YOUVE COME A LONGGG WAY I remember meeting you down in SC! And I was so so so hype for this collection. I got it too!
I grew up on Star Force instead of Battle Network so I will always be biased towards those games but MMBN is an amazing series (especially 6). I really hope that we get a Star Force collection soon cuz I really want to see an upscaled SF3 so bad 😭
I think the buster max mode made this game worth the buy instead of emulation. Since in emulation your best option is to just double the speed of the game which really doesn’t help with clearing encounters. The quality of life is huge when you get lost so you can just get encounters out of the way and SPECIALLY for the protoman fight that you have to fight a boss before even getting an attempt. And I simply used buster max to beat the previous boss quickly and then turn it off for the protoman fight to fight him legitimately and I appreciate the game not punishing me for simply trying to get to a fight faster
