I've used the 6inch coil to go prospecting with the xterra pro and it'll pick up a 0.05 gram flake at 2 inches

To be fair, an Amazon kids toy detector would pick up a big gold ring like that as well 😂. The "complaints" aren't about whether or not it'll see gold, it comes down to whether or not it's sensitive to small and deep gold. It's not suited for gold prospecting like other minelab units.
I know what you mean. On gold prospecting pages you will get people asking if a VLF coin and relic detector will find gold in a prospecting sense. The answer is mostly no. Of course there are those big shallow nuggets that can be found with a kids detector. These are rare and the stuff of legends. Park, field, and beach detectorists refer you to gold as jewellery and perhaps coins or treasure. If they are not prospectors as such, they may be mistaken when hearing a prospector saying these C&R detectors can’t find gold.
Not understanding the complexity of highly mineralised gold bearing ground. No one is wrong or right. Just different.

Most detectors can find gold. But can this detector discriminate out the trash. I can find coins like dimes and quarters easily by discriminating out the trash. But things like gold rings will ring up with the same number as trash. As such, I'll be digging hundreds or thousands holes of trash before I find that gold item. Doesn't that stand true for most metal detectors?
yes gold will fall into most of the normal trash ranges on all detectors so if you want the gold, dig it all.
You may want to lower the “Accept/Reject” LONG PRESS. “This Advanced Setting allows you to manually
control the point at which ferrous tones occur.” In some cases, gold may be pulled down into the negative in the trash.

Yeah my XTERRA Pro can also hit a larger gold ring but then I tested a few small gold stud earing and the machine couldn't hit on them. But like you said for the price of this machine you can't really complain.

Hi Do you think they will ill do an update to stabilize the vdi.
Lower Sensitivity down to 15 And I have mine at 12 Sensitivity and then the jumpy VDI X-Terra Pro is a totally different Detector and then the jumpy VDI will start to be able to make a difference between the great targets and the junkyard of target's And then the aluminum Targets ( can slaw) Will still be the Same jumpy VDI And almost every time I get a better sounding target that is just sounds a little too Good. I just put on the horseshoe button and it's usually a iron target and I have dug a few up just to make sure it was on the right track with what X-Terra Pro said that it is.... And that's what I have done to help me decide and do about the X-Terra Pro Jumpy VDI problem.... But to me it's a Great Feature to have but I can't use the Full Sensitivity like I have watched other's trying to do without All the jumpy tone Targets that are not there on Full Sensitivity.... but just lower the sensitivity and it will still be able to find targets that are in the ground about the 4-6 inch range..... but I'm also using the Swing Speed of 3 and I haven't checked yet on the other Numbers of 1,2, Yet and it's A Very Powerful Detector that I have noticed that it's like having a Top End Detector but instead for the Budget Price Range...... and the good Targets will only jump a number Or Two and which is a normal bounce for about every detector that is made today and the other Junk will not lock in but will still be the same ridiculous jumpy VDI...... and then the aluminum foil top is the nemesis of about every detector that is made today and it's a good target Tone but it's not a junk signal target Tone like that It should be and I have dug a few and it will range about everywhere on the VDI of the X-Terra Pro but I still love the X-Terra Pro ❤....

Sure, its collapses down nicely, its waterproof, and it finds targets for a very low price point. You could buy a couple for the team to use.
