When thinning out your Carrots don't pull them as they will disturb the soil and attract the Root Fly, use a pair of Scissors and snip the ones you don't want as close to the soil as possible then throw away, or you can replant the snipped one depending on the size and also try and do this in the early evening when there is less Root Fly flying around, plus it's cooler if you live somewhere that is hot.
