Now this is a unique way of fixing gym leaders. I haven't seen anyone else discuss the Paldea leaders before. Pretty great buffs tbh, though one thing I've always been bothered by is why Kofu, the Seafood Chef Gym Leader, doesn't use the Seafood Chef Pokemon Dondozo? I get it's technically a titan, but Nemona uses Orthworm. Without Tatsugiri it wouldn't be crazy or anything, and it does have less attack than Veluza.
I was actually thinking the idea for Dondozo, and at first I felt it would detract from the titan fight for Tatsugiri; however, in retrospect, not only would it be a strong inclusion for Kofu, but also play really well into the False Dragon element of Tatsugiri. Great call!
@@LukerYT but also you fight nemonas orthworm after you know it exists but you battle Kofu hours before dondozo so it would just ruin the surprise of the titan
@@slaytahharwood417 Agreed with this. If nothing else, I would have suggested putting Dondozo in his post-game team, along with Tatsugiri, since by that point, any restraints should be removed by then. It should also be noted that Dondozo can only be found in Casseroya Lake, which is basically an endgame area, so putting it in his initial fight wouldn't really work.
To be fair he is focusing on Veluza, which is going for live-sashimi. And then Crabominable is based on how crab pincers are a delicacy. Dondozo is not a Seafood Chef - it's a Big Catfish. I feel like the main issue is Wugtrio, as Garden Eels aren't commonly eaten. They should have given him a spread of Storm Drain Tatsugiris instead. Maybe two that are different colour from the Titan. Or some other more obvious seafood Pokémon. Slowpoke or any other Pokémon from Slowpoke line would have been an interesting choice. Especially, if it would put up Trick Room + Yawn, so Crabominable gets ensured hit.
@@mjm3091 Quoting Bulbapedia: "Dondozo may also be based on a sushi chef, considering its relationship with Tatsugiri, the frills on its head which resemble a bandana or headband commonly worn as part of a sushi chef's uniform, and its tongue which resembles a sushi geta." So I'd argue it's close enough to one. I should note again though, that Dondozo and Tatsugiri are ONLY found in Casseroya Lake, so Kofu would probably only be able to use them in post-game rematches. The addition of Slowpoke or its evolutions is an interesting idea.
FINALLY! I've seen hundreds of these types of "Fixing Hym Leaders" videos, and none of them ever created a theme based on the gym leader's design... They usually slapp all the Pokémon introduced in that generation of the specific type, even if they didn't match at all. I created my own version of the teams for every gym leader and for the Paldeas's one, some match with yours! Like for Katy, I gave her Combee, Spidops, and Teddiursa. Tho of them with the ability Honey Gutter, even if it's not relevant to the battle, give context to where Katy get the Honey she use to bake. And the moves Sweet Scent, Lick, Charm to represent the sweet part about the sweets she produce! One day, I'll do a UA-cam video for my channel too, but I'm very happy to have found someone else that did an amazing job with the teams! Great work!! 😊 (Sorry if I made any grammar error, but English is not my first language 😅)
Ahh awesome to see! I agree about factoring in the gym leader's design too, I really like trying to thread a needle between style and substance to make the picks make sense on multiple levels. Can't wait to see your video! And your English was great, no worries at all 😁
OMG THIS! I absolutely despise it when people put in new Pokemon or even brand new aces to Gym Leaders that don't suit them AT ALL, but are introduced in that gen so it's "better". Prime example is people wanting Emerald's Wattson to be canon, because Manectric was introduced in Gen3. But... He's a chubby, jolly mechanist. Magneton suits him SO much better, than an intimidating fast Thunder-Wolf.
This was a really well done video however there are a few tiny details or info bits I think you’d like to know! Katy despite being seemingly easy is actually somewhat of a challenge as I’ve noticed when the game first released a lot of people, UA-camrs especially, b-lined for Katy thinking she would be a piece of cake for their Fuecoco and Quaxly only to end up whiting out due to the level gap and or unlucky Fury Cutter RNG. While I still think changing her team would be for the better, Katy is deceptively strong for a first gym leader in a modern Pokémon game. Brassius having Petilil would make more sense if he was exclusively a painter because Petilil and Lilligant exemplify feminine beauty but he seems to do all sorts of visual art forms so it would be cool if he had Pokémon to represent that. Sudowoodo could be sculpting since it stands perfectly still and is upright (also standing still is good for a painting reference) while Smoliv or Capsakid being food based could be great for still-like paintings of food. I don’t know if Brassius does theatre at all but Bramblin would be a cute nod to westerners if he does, though Petilil could work for acting as well. Wugtrio isn’t actually worms, it’s a colony of garden eels! They’re fish! And as fish, Kofu having them makes more sense. I do however think his aces should be Veluza and Crabominable, Veluza mostly because the guy says “Vaultin’ Veluza” constantly. Not a critique but more just a fun fact, Larry’s Tera ace being Staraptor works because he’s the only gym leader to take advantage of the 2x STAB effect tera can give, everyone else opts for the third STAB meaning Larry knows more than he initially lets on.
Thank you for all the information! That's a very good point about Katy - there's been a time where I've lost to her with Fuecoco due to Struggle Bug from Nymble bringing down my Sp. Atk, which then made every subsequent Pokémon a lot harder; I think I might have conflated 'easy' with 'having readily accessible counters' which aren't necessarily the same thing! I love the Brassius analysis, the perspective on each teammate he currently has rounding out the most common types of art mediums makes me appreciate what he's assembled more than I did when I made the video. Equally the Kofu point I made was quite naive 😝 still though, fully agree Veluza being the Paldean ace makes more sense! And that's a really interesting wrinkle about Larry too; when someone else commented on the fact that the grass-tera for Sudowoodo is quite a self-own for Brassius, I thought back over every tera-ace and Staraptor is easily the best offence-based choice for the gym leaders. So the fact that he can take advantage of it and as you say it foreshadows his character (as well as the Elite 4 approach too) is fascinating! Thanks again for the info!
@ bonus fact I JUST thought of, the other notable trainers who use 2x STAB Tera are the other Elite 4 members and Geeta, Larry using the same Tera as his STAB was even more foreshadowing of him being an elite 4 member
FYI Sudowoido on his team is likely a reference to stone bonsai trees, an art form where small faux bonsai trees are carved from a stone base and decorated with nephreite jade for the leaves and blossoms.
@itsturniptime3699 yean the only characters to use same type stab are the elite four, Geeta, nemona, arven, penny, and Clavell (Larry is also the only character to have two different aces throughout battles in paldea with staraptor for his gym team and flamigo for his elite four team this isn't counting the bb dlc battles)
If there is one thing I don’t understand it’s that I don’t know why Iono doesn’t have a Magneton or Magnezone on her team. It should probably replace Electrode.
> Adds constant snow > Removes Beartic (one of exactly two Slush Rush pokemon) This is the one * I give this video haaha IDK if that was the best call.
I think Gyarados also works as Grusha's tera ace since the theme and references behind its evolutionary line can parallel how he rose to fame as a professional snowboarder (as well as becoming a skilled gym leader by spending all of his time focusing on his goals). Plus, the fact that it's the atrocious pokemon could reflect Grusha's personal frustrations with his snowboarding career and how he lost everything after his accident.
Even with all that, one other problem I had with all the trainers in Paldea is that... NONE of them understand what a Held Item is, or even use Potions. Maybe give Katy's Teddiursa, Brassius' Sudowoodo and Iono's Mismagius one Sitrus Berry to help them stat alive for... more than 1 turn, if any. From then on, we can start getting 2 held items to help the strategy of the trainer and then 3 held items per team. 1. Like a Scope Lens on Kofu's Veluza and let's add a Sitrus on Crabominable. 2. For Larry, maybe giving Indeedee a Quick Claw for a possible Encore locking the player into a useles move, and give Staraptor a Toxic Orb to make Facade a real challenge. 3. Rhyme could have a Lum Berry on Mimikyu, because the only thing stopping the setup would be a status effect. And adding Take Down or Body Press on Houndstone paired with an Assault Vest and the ability Fluffy would do wonders for a gym leader that welcomes us into the last third of the game. 4. Tulip could lead with a Light Clay Medicham to at least give the rest of the team an 8-turn defense boost. Add a Sitrus Berry on Espathra and Leftovers on Florgess 5. For Grusha... adding a Focus Sash on Frosmoth, Assault Vest on Cetitan and a Life Orb for Gyarados. How does that sound?
I personally think every gym leader should have tera blast on their tera mon, perhaps starting with Kofu. It is a type-changing move that can be both physical and special depending on which does more damage (don’t quote me) and it is a fun way to enhance the impact that tera plays in the game. Besides there are exclusive animations for each type so the move never feels stale.
That's a really good point! Equally if I had to give it to only one of the 8, giving it to Grusha would then give Gyarados a 120 Base Power STAB Ice Type move that far supersedes Ice Fang
@ DEFINITELY. Ice fang is decent but the 8th gym leader rocking a base 120 stab move feels like a must. Also the E4 should ALL have tera blast. It truly confused me that they didn’t. I get Geeta having it but other than that her team isn’t even that good until the DLC, but there is no way that she can’t distribute the TM to her employees when she gives it to the player character. I wonder are you going to make an elite 4 remaster?
I actually think the Elite 4 in Paldea is really strong to be honest; they do so well with utilising Tera-typing well on the offence and I don't think I'd have a whole lot to change in the rest of their team (although I'll have to refresh my memory and make sure I'm not misremembering haha) I think if I were to cover anything else in this game with the same format, it'd likely be Team Star; Giacomo and Mela having 2 Pokémon is really lacklustre and I think there can be a lot more said with the characters in their teams. However the current video I plan to release next is fixing the Sword and shield gym leaders 👍
I think the last two can have a fifth Pokémon. Other than that, amazing work. One of the best "fixing Gym Leaders" video I've seen, as it actually takes theme into consideration, rather than just typing.
Thank you so much! That's a good point about the latter 2 having extra members (which I'm actually taking on-board for the next fixing video haha) - definitely would keep Beartic for Grusha due to Slush Rush, and maybe Hatterene for Tulip? Not quite sure aha
Part of the reason why npcs don't have full movesets is because it limits what the ai can select. That may sound like a downside, but the ai doesn't play like a real human so if you give it a limited selection you can exercise more control over the strategy it ends up using. I remember watching a playthrough where they used the ingame ai to control their pokemon in battle, resulting in the player giving their mons 2 or 3 moves or in a few cases only 1
Yeah it's kind of difficult to factor limited movesets into these styles of videos. I somewhat separate the AI of the trainer when coming up with these things, as I like using it as an expression of a trainer more than anything, but if I had the trainer's battling outlook in mind it would probably be switched up a fair bit
Great video! I was bored and did this myself one day and thought it would be cool if their tera pokemon are of their main typing but changes into the type offensive to their own. So the bug one would tera into flying or fire. This would, i feel, make the fights a little harder and unique
I always forget between videos how good your editing and production skills are, I love it! Good ideas here, I've definitely thought of some similar things myself because a lot of these fights had a lot of potential but really missed the mark.
Thank you so much! And yeah the gyms really felt lacklustre which is a shame - would've been even cooler if they factored the open-world into them better
Grusha's ace as a Gholdengo wound make sense purely for the snowboarding aspect. Nasty plot, make it rain, shadow ball and thunderbolt/recover would be threatening.
My thoughts on your changes and also adding my own changes lmao :- - Katy is only the first gym so yea, I like the Combee option because she does you a Combee in Indigo disk, just evolve her Tarountula into Spidops and we gucci, -Brassius, i like the cute deerling change, i feel Sawsbuck is underutilize tbh, Capsakid is a nice addition too -Iono team is perfect and i didnt realize she doesnt have all 4 moves on her pokemon (seriously they've been doing this crap since Gen 6 lol) - Kofu, this man, SHOULD'VE had a Veluza on his team for his constant "iconic" line of 'VAULTIN' VELUZA' oh and give him either Tatsugiri or Dondozo for the 4th slot instead of Lumineon tbh -Larry, Indeedee and Maushold would be great choices for his 4th pokemon, Larry my man i know you're crunched to high heaven but my man give your Staraptor AT LEAST Close Combat, why does your chicken have 2 moves only??? - Ryme, i feel she SHOULD have a Gholdengo as her ace, paldean ace, ghost/steel is an amazing typing aaaaand she wears gold all over her outfit and rappers love to rap about money!...i think? - Tulip, Mabye the reason she didn't use Medicham is because she uses a Gallade instead during her rematch, if i had to pitch another pokemon, it could be Rabsca, Paldean mon and Psychic type, give it Revival blessing and it'd troll the player so hard lmao - Grusha, OKAY I LIKE YOUR CHANGES, with your constant snowing pitch and Froslass having Snow cloak, this could be DEVASTATING, i love your change to Grusha's ace to Gyarados instead of Altaria, 'sides when i think of Altaria, i think of Winona lmao, Moxie boosted Dragon Dance Tera Gyarados is DEADLY omg, well friggin done. I'd say keep Beartic as Grusha's 5th pokemon because while Beartic is laughably weak in of itself, but Grusha's Beartic has Slush rush, which is very good for it. So yea, i'd say give Grusha FIVE POKEMON atp, this is the final pokemon gym, gotta go all out right? I think these changes are fun, just wish Pokemon utilizes Held items more for the important trainers to teach you how useful they are, I really wanna see a future video covering your Elite four changes and ESPECIALLY...a certain La Primera 👁👁
Why did you get rid of beartic? Its biggest problem is that it's slow, but it gets the ability slush rush. You also said to make the weather permanent snow doubling the bears speed and lacking defenses. It already hit like a truck now it would be fast enough to actually out speed opponent's, SO YOU REMOVE IT FROM THE TEAM. I think you should've kept beartic and also added froslass. The 6th gym leader should have more Pokémon than the 3rd
@LukerYT No problem! That said, I feel Baraskewda can also work for the sushi meal. It's really funny how, because Dondozo and tatsugiri are already titan pokemon, they can't be used for Kofu's team because they feel like they were *made for* a sushi chef gym leader lol
I absolutely believe that by the time you get to Tulip you should be able to handle an Espathra that has protect and speed boost. I'd totally give it that over agility. I kinda understand the idea of giving all the pokemon 3 moves. They want the AI to focus in on specific attacks more and having less of a variety to throw the match does make sense. I guess you gotta pick your poison: coverage or more likely to hit the better moves.
I recently had an idea that the gym leaders can, instead, terastalize a pokemon from their specialized type to something else (I.e Grusha terastalizing a Cetitan into a water type)
It would've been cool to see that! It's kind of hard to convey a gym leader having a tera-type that isn't their speciality, but it would've made something like Tera-Rock Sudowoodo WAY better for Brassius
I’ve always wanted Grusha to have a Krookodile, it having Moxie is one of the main reasons but Ground also covers most of Ice’s weaknesses and it’s just very strong. So pretty cool you picked Gyarados for a similar reason
Ahh Krookodile would've been sick actually - and although it's an anime story beat, I always lump Krookodile in with black shades which would be somewhat useful for snowboarders when they're up in the mountains, so it works on many levels!
10:44 I’m pretty sure it’s to influence the trainer AI. The AI doesn’t really know when or how to use buffs and the like, last I checked, so giving them four moves might distract them, especially when they’re status moves.
Ahh I see - to give myself some leeway, let's hope the AI performs 'better' to consider some of these options akin to the more difficult AI in the Elite 4/Champions of other games
Wow, great video! Compelling narrative, stunning visuals, sprinkle of humour, top stuff! You sir have gained a sub, and I know how much you love a sub!🎉🎉🎉 signed, Your Sire ❤
thank you my tiny friend goblin squire, now please could you look in the corner for the next 7 hours whilst refraining from talking or doing a merry jig
Honestly, I don’t think it’d be TOO overpowered to give Kofu Tatsugiri. I mean, maybe it might be a little much to give the 4th Gym Leader a Dragon Type (especially a Water/Dragon Type which is SUCH a good typing, but considering Kofu is a literal sushi chef and Tatsugiri is a SUSHI Pokemon, it seems too good to pass up
It's really a match made in heaven - I think it might detract somewhat from the overall game due to it being a titan too, but I think there must be a way to work the two together in some form or another
This video is great. I haven’t gone through on my own and figured every detail out. I think the only face value change I would make is give Frosmoth Quiver Dance.
Thank you! Quiver Dance is a really good shout. My through-line with giving Frosmoth Aurora Veil was to try and lean into the idea of the trainer facing off the harsh conditions of snow akin to a snowboarder, yet the idea still carries over with making Frosmoth a beast.
i think the reason why Kofu and Larry both has 3 pokémon is since first, you have the starter (food, not pokémon lmao), then the dinner and then finally the dessert. and Kofu is a literal chef and you fight Larry in a restaurant.
and i think it makes just so much sense, like sure Iono has 4 pokémon, but however, the number of pokémon in the Kofu and Larry battles, it's mostly focused about the order you eat food in for example christmas eve, new years eve and most restaurants.
I disagree with removing the Altaria from Grusha, mainly because it's certainly more on-theme than expected. The clouds on Altaria look like snow. Admittedly, it's one of the flimsier justifications, but the point still stands!
To explain why many of the gymleaders Pokemon even later on might not have all 4 moves, it might be due to the AI, limiting the choices between moves means less room for "error" in what the AI is supposed to do, which can conversely make them harder than they'd be with 4 moves. Mismagius might actually be a decent example for this. Yes, switching between a ground and a normal type can completely wall it, but in the first place, why would you bring a normal type to this gym anyways unless you were already aware of this? You'd have to have lost to her once already OR have looked at her team before to be aware of this, so assuming you don't have a normal-type in your party, electric and ghost coverage alone is pretty strong, both hit many things at least neutral. Anyways, Mismagius' strategy is primarily supposed to be to go for Charge Beam and fish for stat buffs to snowball, adding more moves would decrease the chance of the AI going for Charge Beams, Hex is to have a way to attack ground types but also conveniently punishes Pokemon that got paralyzed by the rest of her team, Confuse Ray might be an additional answer to normal types, since I think even though it's a ghost type move this one still hits normal types. Toxtricity is also a decent example. If you gave it Screech, while you make a good point for it, I'm pretty sure the AI would generally start preferring to at least open with a Screech before Toxtricity would actually attack, which... isn't really a good use for a Tera-slot, if this was any other Pokemon of hers this'd be way less of a problem, but it would kinda be for Toxtricity. It also not profiting from those attack-drops itself would be another problem, it'd be more viable if we were talking about a Shift Gear Toxtricity... and even then the turns of setup would be kinda hard to justify, it would probably much rather still just attack, in which case the set it already has in-game is already more than efficient enough.
Gyarados is cool and all, but I feel there is another that could fit even better as Grusha's Tera Ace. If a Paldean Pokemon could be the Tera Pokemon, why not give him a Gholdengo? Nobody else uses a Gholdengo in the storyline, so it might give you more inspiration to go out and collect all those coins. It is often pictured as a surfer on a golden board, which would fit very well with his snowboarder theme. Ice might not have much use on it... but I guess he could throw on tera blast at this point, since the 8th gym leader should have some TMs. It could learn things like dazzling gleam to hit fighting types that were supereffective on his other team members, and shadow ball to hit a certain crocodile that usually rampages through most of the fights. Or at least slap gholdengo on Geeta's team. She is a champion, she can do better than what she has. It is symbolic of a journey all around the region with how many places you need to get the coins from.
Gholdengo is a really cool and underutilised Pokémon for sure - do any of the Ace Academy trainers use it? I'm not sure if someone like Poppy or Ryme uses them in rematches
I’m not too sure about Froslass’s moveset as it gets walled by more than a few mons 18:04 , and Confuse Ray doesn’t really synegize too well with Will-O-Wisp, imo. I would replace those two for Water Pulse (still gets a chance to confuse while dealing damage and being super effective on Fire and Rock-types) or Chilling Water to lower their attack stat. On the final slot I would have Thunderbolt, to have BoltBeam for good coverage for most things. If we’re going with any TMs available on the base game. I thought to give it Spikes, but I like having Frosmoth as the lead, and hazard-setting should be done by a lead, and not the ace (RIGHT GEETA?) I know 4-attacking moves on a Froslass is unconventional, but they all have a secondary effect (Guaranteed crit, lower Sp. Def, Confusion/guaranteed lower Attack, paralysis) and Froslass tend to be live fast, faint young, so I thought why not go with a full-on attacker.
That's a great spin on it! Perhaps Will-O-Wisp and Confuse Ray are better split apart than they are on the same set for the gym leaders, and with its move pool as you've shown it can really do quite well with multiple options
One thing I think you may have missed for Brassius. Considering the thorny look about him, I am surprised you left out Bramblin in terms of options for him. (I mean not many people know of that Pokemon but still). Yes Grass/Ghost for a '2nd' Gym might be much, but I would find it a nice challenge... Especially since there are some Pokemon that can learn Dark typed moves before reaching Brassius.
That's honestly a really good point to be honest! It's quite a match made in heaven, maybe the ghostly part of it just never resonated in my brain with Brassius, but I think it's a perfect option for his team
I'd personally give Brassius Sunflora over Deerling, it has a pretty crummy physical defence and great special defence so it could act as a pseudo wall against the usual early special fire moves, plus that way he can keep smolliv
That's a great trade-off! The only thing I'd change isn't anything to do with the fight, but I'd make it so you can't face off in battle against a Sunflora in the Hide and Seek, so as to not step on the toes of the team version
I love the changes for Iono, but I'm still mad that her hair things weren't a regional variant of the magnamite line and that she doesn't have a magnamite on her team
I have a more drastic idea to improve the Paladea gyms, leaning into the "any order' one with the gyms changing based on how many badges you have. Alongside the tera ace being used tera out of the type they currently are to get a jump on the player. General level caps stay the same. The final battle will be using competitve sets because that would be a ton of pokemon per potential gym imagine that they slowly upgrade over time and the order I'm using is whoever is added first alongside following evolution rules for the most part Gym 1/2: 2 pokemon Gym 3/4: 3 Pokemon Gym 5/6: 4 Pokemon Gym 7/8: 5 Pokemon Rematch: 6 pokemon Katy:Spidops/Lokix(Ground tera)/Vesiqueen/Fortress/Heracross/Volcarona Brasscius:Arboliva/Brambleghast(Tera rock)/Toedscruel/Breloom/Appletun/Amoongus Iono:Kilowattrel/Bellibolt(water)/Magnezone/Rotom-mow/Pinchurcin/Eelektross Kafu:Pelipper/Veluza(Ice)/Wugtrio/Gastrodon/Dreadnaw/Clawitzer Larry:Staraptor/Dundunsparce(Flying)/Maushold/Indeedee/Pyroar/Sawsbuck Ryme:Mismagius/Houndstone(Fighting)/Mimmkyuu/Drifblim/Spiritomb/Dragapult Tulip:Farigiraf/Esparthra(Fairy)/Gallade/Gardevoir/Bronzong/Slowking Grusha:Abomosnow/Cetitan(steel)/Cloyster/Froslass/Weavile/Frosmoth
That's a really cool idea! I conteplated the possibility of doing it so each gym leader technically had 8 teams but I thought it would get a little redundant as a video - yet as a concept it's a great inclusion for the games, and it feels particularly weird how rigid the fights are in spite of the open-world aspect of Scarlet and Violet. Hopefully it's something they can return to in Gen 10 if they get the chance!
I had a lot of trouble with the psychic gym during my playthrough. Was that because I fought her before Larry and was too stubborn to leave and come back? Probably but I still beat her while about 15 levels under
Honestly I wished paldea would've been different with the gym leaders 😂😂 when they made it a free world option where you can challenge any of the gym leaders. It would be a amazing that they had a team based on how many badges you had. So literally you could fight ryme in the 1st gym and be steamrolled by a 8th gym larry 😂😂 Maybe Gen 10 could do that
For sure, but I think that with the fact that the gyms aren't progressive, the order is slightly more rigid if you want to keep that 'authentic' experience
haha, a good joke! ...unless? (I think the Elite 4 in Paldea is pretty good to be fair lol - currently working on a video on Sword and Shield's gym leaders, but think I might return to Scarlet and Violet to talk about fixing Team Star!)
The algo gave me your vid, first time seeing your vid and hell yeah the jokes you have are top notch meme worthy ones. Gain a sub from me, you PILF lover.
i think this makes minimum battles runs go from difficult to almost impossible. You absolutely have to take optional battles or grind no matter the starter now.
I'm actually really interested in a video on minimum battles runs! I've not seen many videos on it, but this kind of thing would definitely make it harder lol
You should have kept those priority moves on all the Pokémon that had them. I’ve never seen a Cetitan without ice shard and Mimikyu without Shadow Sneak
I think in the case of Mimikyu it could've stuck, but I figured that with it having a fairly decent Speed stat already, giving it a more powerful STAB move would work. As for Cetitan, Ice Shard definitely feels right, it's just that with Frosmoth having Aurora Veil I imagined their team being far tankier from that point in the fight onwards
I just wanna say they need to make a pokemon game thats actually challenging 😂😂 I get it they make it easy for new players But it's been like that for years. Arceus was a good example because you had to SURVIVE AND NOT DIE 😂😂 but these gens are too easy The hardest game for me was heartgold back then and loved difficulty so it forced me to strategize. New games shouldn't give participation trophies they should make any person no matter how veteran or newbie make the game hard Or at most do it like call of duty and put a difficulty tier.
I like the video over all but i'm gonna hard disagree on Farigarag not fitting on the aspect of Asthethics. While it does have a harder design compared to some of the softer angles, it very much fits a High Fashion Angle that can be seen in the reat of the group. Its eyes and surrounding face very much ah e a sharp eyeline rmakeup asthethic going on, and argubably the armor tail/helmet thing very much as a. Fashionable hoodie/jacket vibe to it. It may not be a soft asthethic but it certainly does have a strong astebthic choice to it and I can easily see its design being transferred easily into an outfit on a runway along side the others.
Seeing a Grusha is the 8th gym leader, I think his Gyarados should have Tera Blast instead of Ice Fang. I mean, at some point that move should have been shown off in at least one gym leader's team, so why not the last one?
I think most of these changes are good, but cutting the Gym TM from a lot of these movesets just feels wrong. Like Ice Spinner is better than Icicle Crash anyways. More of a nitpick tho.
That's a good point! Although one thing I realised through looking back at the gym leaders is that a fair few of them don't even use the TM they give you lol - Katy's Pounce and Ryme's Shadow Ball come to mind
I just don't know why they don't make them challenging to begin with. At least they could give us the option to have a more difficult game but it's like you get a forced easy mode regardless
Yeah it really surprises me they've never brought back the difficulties from B2W2; I think a really easy way to give fights greater difficulty is purely to just boss fights full(er) IVs and EVs, so even when you're facing off against a more straightforward team they may be able to hit harder and withstand more. At the very least it gives room for people to discuss how they'd try and improve it lmao
@LukerYT the refights in brilliant diamond they have fuller teams, ivs, evs, but they also have pretty good items on their pokemon too. I was really happy when they actually put up a fight. Like, yeah I can see why they became gym leader. Geeta's team is a prime example of this, I mean... Toxic spikes setter as her final pokemon?? Why? Even in the sense of lore I seriously can't see how Geeta became champion with a team and setup like that
Arboliva is way too significant for Brassius to scrap it - he literally made a bunch of statues inspired by it (as well as Sunflora - why isn't IT on the team??)
I really dont know what was going on the devs mind with all of these pokemon teams I mean the champion, you know the second to last boss of the game that is supposed to test all of your skills, has the worst team in the entire game, she even has a Gogoat in her team...
Yeah I think the only thing this game really manages to nail team-wise are the Elite 4; they both have pretty well-rounded teams to cover type weaknesses, and fundamentally understand how to use terastallisation in a more threatening way lol
I really like Gogoat (big fan of Skiddo) but I don't think it synergises well with the rest of Geeta's team due to its speed and weakness to fire. It, Avalugg and Kingambit can all get comfortably handled by a specially offensive Fire-type back-to-back-to-back. Think it's a cool Kalos Pokémon though!
Geeta isn't the second to last boss of the game... Nemona is. Geeta is the chairwoman of the league she is basically a less evil chairman Rose. I don't consider her to be a champion. (Though it wouldn't have hurt to make her even slightly challenging)
(Sorry if I made any grammar error, but English is not my first language 😅)
Yeah it's really bizarre that she has 2 Magnemite in her hair and none in her squad lol
> Adds constant snow
> Removes Beartic (one of exactly two Slush Rush pokemon)
This is the one * I give this video haaha IDK if that was the best call.
Haha yeah in retrospect I think I’d keep Beartic on the team and just give Grusha 5 Pokémon
Really good points! I love the added dimensions that the 2 can draw between one another
@@Zistheone2 Yeah that actually makes sense. Bro is a crashout
Add a Sitrus Berry on Espathra and Leftovers on Florgess
5. For Grusha... adding a Focus Sash on Frosmoth, Assault Vest on Cetitan and a Life Orb for Gyarados. How does that sound?
We could Larry´s Staraptor a mirror herb
I actually think the Elite 4 in Paldea is really strong to be honest; they do so well with utilising Tera-typing well on the offence and I don't think I'd have a whole lot to change in the rest of their team (although I'll have to refresh my memory and make sure I'm not misremembering haha)
I think if I were to cover anything else in this game with the same format, it'd likely be Team Star; Giacomo and Mela having 2 Pokémon is really lacklustre and I think there can be a lot more said with the characters in their teams.
However the current video I plan to release next is fixing the Sword and shield gym leaders 👍
@ That sounds awesome i’ll he sure to look out for that!
Thank you! Hope to see you there🫡
11:38 How are we thinking about Last Respects on Houndstone? Remember it’s at MOST at +3!
That completely went over my head but what a fantastic shout to be honest! I don’t mind Phantom Force but Last Respects would be killer haha
I somewhat separate the AI of the trainer when coming up with these things, as I like using it as an expression of a trainer more than anything, but if I had the trainer's battling outlook in mind it would probably be switched up a fair bit
my main thing is that the gen 9 aces should be the final Pokémon that goes out rather than the Tera mon, but that’s a small nitpick i guess
Great video! I was bored and did this myself one day and thought it would be cool if their tera pokemon are of their main typing but changes into the type offensive to their own. So the bug one would tera into flying or fire. This would, i feel, make the fights a little harder and unique
Thank you! And that would be really cool to give a Pokémon like Sudowoodo a favourable Tera-type, as opposed to becoming weak to Fire lol, good shout!
Spidops really suffers from "I was made trash because I got Sticky Web".
I always forget between videos how good your editing and production skills are, I love it!
Good ideas here, I've definitely thought of some similar things myself because a lot of these fights had a lot of potential but really missed the mark.
Thank you so much! And yeah the gyms really felt lacklustre which is a shame - would've been even cooler if they factored the open-world into them better
for Katy she's forced to weaken her team so we don't blame her
Grusha's ace as a Gholdengo wound make sense purely for the snowboarding aspect. Nasty plot, make it rain, shadow ball and thunderbolt/recover would be threatening.
Didn't think I'd see a new Luker video drop before I hit the retirement home
Awesome work, Luker! Your editing skills are top notch!! I can’t wait to see your future Pokémon videos!! 😄
4:40 if you can rematch him, he better have a ferrothron
It's not in the game...
But maybe Roselia, because roses and... it's also not in the game...
Considering some of Brassius' interactions with Hassel, I can't see that combination going well
Blud doesn’t know the dex 💀
@@edscarlet865 wait my boy isn’t in the game??? He’s my favorite grass type… NOOOO (I never bought the games bc I didn’t think they looked good)
@jackslaven-hahn2959 nope not at all. Gen 9 is easily my weakest generation when it comes to what I know about it.
My thoughts on your changes
and also adding my own changes lmao :-
- Katy is only the first gym so yea, I like the Combee option because she does you a Combee in Indigo disk, just evolve her Tarountula into Spidops and we gucci,
-Brassius, i like the cute deerling change, i feel Sawsbuck is underutilize tbh, Capsakid is a nice addition too
-Iono team is perfect and i didnt realize she doesnt have all 4 moves on her pokemon (seriously they've been doing this crap since Gen 6 lol)
- Kofu, this man, SHOULD'VE had a Veluza on his team for his constant "iconic" line of 'VAULTIN' VELUZA' oh and give him either Tatsugiri or Dondozo for the 4th slot instead of Lumineon tbh
-Larry, Indeedee and Maushold would be great choices for his 4th pokemon, Larry my man i know you're crunched to high heaven but my man give your Staraptor AT LEAST Close Combat, why does your chicken have 2 moves only???
- Ryme, i feel she SHOULD have a Gholdengo as her ace, paldean ace, ghost/steel is an amazing typing aaaaand she wears gold all over her outfit and rappers love to rap about money!...i think?
- Tulip, Mabye the reason she didn't use Medicham is because she uses a Gallade instead during her rematch, if i had to pitch another pokemon, it could be Rabsca, Paldean mon and Psychic type, give it Revival blessing and it'd troll the player so hard lmao
- Grusha, OKAY I LIKE YOUR CHANGES, with your constant snowing pitch and Froslass having Snow cloak, this could be DEVASTATING, i love your change to Grusha's ace to Gyarados instead of Altaria, 'sides when i think of Altaria, i think of Winona lmao, Moxie boosted Dragon Dance Tera Gyarados is DEADLY omg, well friggin done.
That's a fair point, and in retrospect I think I would've given Grusha 5 Pokémon in order to keep Beartic
Gyarados for Grusha makes sense in the way that moxie can make your fight "snowball" out of control
... This is peak there. Props! 👌
Thank you!
Each memeber of Kofu's team is meant to represent sushi ingredients, with Wugtrio being eel. As for Peliper, it lays eggs for egg sushi
That makes way more sense overall! Thanks for the insight 😄
@LukerYT No problem! That said, I feel Baraskewda can also work for the sushi meal. It's really funny how, because Dondozo and tatsugiri are already titan pokemon, they can't be used for Kofu's team because they feel like they were *made for* a sushi chef gym leader lol
8:55 give him vigoroth (not slacking) bc he wants to lay down but can’t and has to keep working until the day is done. Like Vigoroth dex entries
9:28 AYE!! Viggy mentioned
If you are gonna have permanent Snow, Beartic has to stay because of Slush Rush, with 50 base Speed, is gonna be powerful but not overwhelming.
i always felt like thelast gym leader should have 5 pokemon so beartic could be the 5th
Yeah that actually synergises really well - I agree with @michaelporter5399 too, maybe the solution is to keep him on the team and to give Grusha 5
I really like the changes. Grusha is my favorite ice-type leader and these changes are amazing, especially the snowboard Gyarados.
Thank you so much!
9:50 "swift"
🤦 completely missed this but to be honest Hyper Voice is probably a way better choice anyway lol
Not giving tatsagury to the sushi water gym is criminal
haha that's fair - if Tatsugiri wasn't the Titan I'd definitely consider it
I disagree with removing the Altaria from Grusha, mainly because it's certainly more on-theme than expected. The clouds on Altaria look like snow.
Admittedly, it's one of the flimsier justifications, but the point still stands!
Very good point!
Personally, for the Grass Gym Leader, the entire place has Sunflora, so I feel like that could've been included (Unless Sunflora was too weak)
Okay subscribing for "would lose a fight to a tea light"

I thought to give it Spikes, but I like having Frosmoth as the lead, and hazard-setting should be done by a lead, and not the ace (RIGHT GEETA?)
I know 4-attacking moves on a Froslass is unconventional, but they all have a secondary effect (Guaranteed crit, lower Sp.
Hm, I wonder why Brassius doesnt have a Bramblin
This went way over my head in retrospect haha
Please do the other regions 😊
keep an eye out next week hopefully!
Babe wake up, new Luker video just dropped!
Katy's ace should've been a Fidough or Dachsbun with it's ability well baked body. I'm sure I don't need to explain the reasoning but I will if asked.
I actually think Wugtrio was an amazing choice considering it is a vicious fish pokemon that probably catches and eats other fish
I love the changes for Iono, but I'm still mad that her hair things weren't a regional variant of the magnamite line and that she doesn't have a magnamite on her team
that's a great point! Maybe Magnemite in place of Wattrel or Luxio?
I have a more drastic idea to improve the Paladea gyms, leaning into the "any order' one with the gyms changing based on how many badges you have. Alongside the tera ace being used tera out of the type they currently are to get a jump on the player. General level caps stay the same. The final battle will be using competitve sets because that would be a ton of pokemon per potential gym imagine that they slowly upgrade over time and the order I'm using is whoever is added first alongside following evolution rules for the most part
Gym 1/2: 2 pokemon
Gym 3/4: 3 Pokemon
Gym 5/6: 4 Pokemon
Gym 7/8: 5 Pokemon
Rematch: 6 pokemon
Katy:Spidops/Lokix(Ground tera)/Vesiqueen/Fortress/Heracross/Volcarona
Brasscius:Arboliva/Brambleghast(Tera rock)/Toedscruel/Breloom/Appletun/Amoongus
Iono:Kilowattrel/Bellibolt(water)/Magnezone/Rotom-mow/Pinchurcin/Eelektross
Kafu:Pelipper/Veluza(Ice)/Wugtrio/Gastrodon/Dreadnaw/Clawitzer
Larry:Staraptor/Dundunsparce(Flying)/Maushold/Indeedee/Pyroar/Sawsbuck
Ryme:Mismagius/Houndstone(Fighting)/Mimmkyuu/Drifblim/Spiritomb/Dragapult
Tulip:Farigiraf/Esparthra(Fairy)/Gallade/Gardevoir/Bronzong/Slowking
Grusha:Abomosnow/Cetitan(steel)/Cloyster/Froslass/Weavile/Frosmoth
That's a really cool idea! I conteplated the possibility of doing it so each gym leader technically had 8 teams but I thought it would get a little redundant as a video - yet as a concept it's a great inclusion for the games, and it feels particularly weird how rigid the fights are in spite of the open-world aspect of Scarlet and Violet. Hopefully it's something they can return to in Gen 10 if they get the chance!
If alcremie was in the main game then it instead as an ace for Katy would be super cute
Luker face reveal got him drowning in that strange on god
why
I had a lot of trouble with the psychic gym during my playthrough. Was that because I fought her before Larry and was too stubborn to leave and come back? Probably but I still beat her while about 15 levels under
Preferably gyms should specialize in two types and follow a theme.
YES!!!!! LUKER IS BACK BAAAABY!!!!! ✨✨✨
Those were the exact same moves I gave to my Gyarados in Shining Pearl
It would be cool if you did this for more regions!
Definitely leaning towards that! Not sure if I’ll do Galar, Kalos or Johto next but they’re all on the cards
Honestly I wished paldea would've been different with the gym leaders 😂😂 when they made it a free world option where you can challenge any of the gym leaders.
It would be a amazing that they had a team based on how many badges you had. So literally you could fight ryme in the 1st gym and be steamrolled by a 8th gym larry 😂😂
Maybe Gen 10 could do that
Wigitrio is a fish edible.
Ive always thought the terra bug for the baker shouldve obviously been fidough
haha that's a really great idea - if the tera aces let you pick options from Paldea it'd be right up there
‘PILF’ I got my eye on you man
😰
Yay!!! Luker is back!!! 🎉🎉🎉😊
Dewpider line would like a word with you about fire resist.
I really like the Dewpider line! it would've been cool to see it in Paldea for sure, but it's great that it came in on the DLC
the gym order is a suggestion in these games
For sure, but I think that with the fact that the gyms aren't progressive, the order is slightly more rigid if you want to keep that 'authentic' experience
Next is the elite 4!
Unless..
haha, a good joke!
...unless?
(I think the Elite 4 in Paldea is pretty good to be fair lol - currently working on a video on Sword and Shield's gym leaders, but think I might return to Scarlet and Violet to talk about fixing Team Star!)
@@LukerYT yeah fair, there teams are great,
But I know whose team is far from it.
Unless..
ooo VERY good point lol, that alone might have swayed me
The algo gave me your vid, first time seeing your vid and hell yeah the jokes you have are top notch meme worthy ones. Gain a sub from me, you PILF lover.
Haha thank you so much for the kind words!
I would've made the "Old" Aces from all 8 gens, 1 Ace per gen🙂
I really like that idea!
Gursha’s ace should be goldengo because it’s literally always surfing and snowboarding
Definitely a really cool shout, it would just be a shame for it to lose its Ghost-Steel typing for Ice lmao
I think Kofu should be the double battle to show case tatsugiri and dondozo.
That'd be sick!
Gym Leader Larry deserves a normal tera Dragonite with Extreme Speed :p
I really like that!
i think this makes minimum battles runs go from difficult to almost impossible.
Neat
I honestly think another member that could fit in brasious team would be bramble, i mean, his hair looks like one lol
haha very good point
I died only to grusha (I might have had only flying and rock)
It is funny how he happens to have two Ice types that don't have a problem with Rock types at all.
Hey dude instead of Capsikid for Brassius maybe Bramblin can work as well due to his thorny look
Ahh that’s a good shout! Especially as I don’t think any major trainer uses one throughout the game either, nice idea 😁
I would give Bramblin to Brasius couse of the hairstyle
Thank you for the like😍
The ice gym was too easy in game my volcarona demolished it
You had me until gyrrados- so so so overdone. sooooo tired of it.
That’s fair! Someone in the comments mentioned Krookodile and I really like that idea too
I just wanna say they need to make a pokemon game thats actually challenging 😂😂 I get it they make it easy for new players
But it's been like that for years. Arceus was a good example because you had to SURVIVE AND NOT DIE 😂😂 but these gens are too easy
The hardest game for me was heartgold back then and loved difficulty so it forced me to strategize. New games shouldn't give participation trophies they should make any person no matter how veteran or newbie make the game hard
Or at most do it like call of duty and put a difficulty tier.
Very good point! If I did thid video again I'd probably give both Tulip and Grusha 5 Pokémon and keep Farigiraf and Beartic respectively
Seeing a Grusha is the 8th gym leader, I think his Gyarados should have Tera Blast instead of Ice Fang. I mean, at some point that move should have been shown off in at least one gym leader's team, so why not the last one?
That’s a GREAT shout, honestly what a much better idea than Ice Fang!
Sv gym leaders should have had terra that helps them against the types that they are weak to
100%! Would've been a cool twist
But bramblin matches brassuis so well
That's a great shout actually!
Honestly, anyone who gets staraptor lets it have close combat... Why not larry
Bramblin would suit Brassius IMO.
Yeah Smoliv is the hard one for me to consider - I could imagine keeping Smoliv in place of Deerling
High Quality!!
Thank you!
I really dont know what was going on the devs mind with all of these pokemon teams
I mean the champion, you know the second to last boss of the game that is supposed to test all of your skills, has the worst team in the entire game, she even has a Gogoat in her team...
Yeah I think the only thing this game really manages to nail team-wise are the Elite 4; they both have pretty well-rounded teams to cover type weaknesses, and fundamentally understand how to use terastallisation in a more threatening way lol
Gogoat isn’t bad.
Here me out, how about grusha ace is luxray so it can have ice, fire and thunder fang XD
That was cold.
I think Grusha anf the thunder cat work really well together haha
Did you make up the term PILF? or did it already exist? just asking so I can tell the police.
according to my solicitor I can't confirm nor deny the origin of the word I came up with
Taroutula evolves at 15
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I can’t believe I missed that so badly haha, thank you for the clarification!
Great video all in all but please pronunce Iono's name correctly :( it's supposed to be a pun on the shortened pronunciation of "I don't know"
Ah, my mistake! I just went off the Japanese phonetics and assumed that was the case - that’s a cute etymology for the name!
I feel like Sunflora would be best for Brassius. I mean, come on.
Yeah that feels really fitting lol
