Metroid Dread: What Makes an Enemy Scary?
It took way too long and the interest isn't really there, but the long-awaited Metroid Dread video is finally here, as well as a tier list of every 2D Metroid! Is it worth the wait? Unequivocally no lol
But I think the E.M.M.I enemies and how they relate to horror, and their (lack of) scariness, is an interesting subject on top of the game discussion itself.

Over 25 years since the original Metroid: Return of Samus was realeased on the Nintendo Game Boy, and during a drought of (decent) Metroid for its fanbase, a surprise remake was announced at the 2017 E3 Treehouse Event, bringing Samus Aran into the eighth generation of video games with Metroid: Samus Returns, on the 3DS. Was it a great remake? Or was it yet another disappointment for the fanbas...

Metroid: Zero Mission is the 2004 remake to the 1986 Metroid on NES, becoming the first remake in the 2D Metroid series. As someone who thought that the skeleton and ideas for the original game was there, Zero Mission made me excited to see what new hardware & a better grasp on the franchise could do to the game. Is Metroid: Zero Mission a 5-star remake? Let's restart. Metroid Creator Talks Zer...
Metroid Fusion is a Horror Game.

Following the original Metorid trilogy, the series had an 8 year hiatus where Samus was waiting for her next mission; fortunately, in 2002, on a same-day dual release, Metroid Fusion made its impact, in an incredibly horrifying way. The bar Super Metroid set was increidbly high, so high that I thought was insurmountable. However, the development team for Nintendo came out trying to do something...
Gushing over Super Metroid for 18 Minutes

After beating the first 2 Metroid entries, I was aware that Super Metroid (aka Metroid 3) was one of the best regarded games in the franchise. And it's safe to say, this game exceeded expectations. Super Metroid is a fantastic game that warranted the appraisal it's garnered, and this video is my way to get across why that is. Comparing it to the predecessors whilst showcasing everything it does...

[2 - Metroid Retrospective - Metroid II: Return of Samus/Metroid 2: Return of Samus] 5 years following the original, Metroid II (2): Return of Samus was released on Game Boy. As a canonical sequel to the NES Metroid, and with the limitations of the hardware, a bar was high for Metroid II to try and surmount? But was it able to? Let's see! 0:00 - Introduction 0:45 - Initial moments of Metroid II...

ZombiU | A Fantastic Experience (and Ubisoft's Wii U backpedal)

[Wii U Series - 3 - ZombiU] Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed! ZombiU is a Wii U game developed and published by Ubisoft in November 2012, as one of the Wii U's major launch titles; it is one of the console's most quintessential titles and perfectly demonstrates what a game that utilises the Wii U gamepad needed to do; in my opnion, it's one of the best survival horror games. However, de...
Why New Super Luigi U is Better than Mario
Переглядів 3,7 тис.3 роки тому
[Wii U Series - 2] I think that there's an issue with New Super Mario Bros U; it's quite specific, but New Super Mario Bros U's Problem permeated not from it's own self as an entry, but at the behest of Mario's gaming history up to that point with the New Super Mario Bros series, as well as a less-than-inspired Wii U gimmick to go along with it. To the point that it's add-on DLC equivalent of t...

Ok I dont understand.. so the metroids in the floating stage was never really the species how they look? Thats just a hatchling form?
Wasn’t Metroid inspired by the Alien series? It makes sense it has the horrors atmosphere as a base.
I absolutely loved Dread ended up replacing Zero Mission as my #1 favorite Metroid game But yeah i gotta say, the EMMIs just ain't that scary compared to a SOULLESS REFLECTION OF THE STRONGEST BOUNTY HUNTER and The EMMIs just suck, they mostly get in the way, especially during speedruns. Everything else about Dread is hella fun, the bosses and controls are PEAK lol It took only like 2000 for you to finish your 2d metroid saga but its nice, next is the Prime series :p
octopus dance is my favorite singleplayer game ;-;
Why does everyone dunk on Balloon Trip Breeze? That was the only one I was actually good at
without capitalism, metroid doesnt exist
😱😭🥺🥺🥺
Fusion gives an uncomfortable feeling. The game's music, the graphics, the way the characters move, almost everything about it is meant to create tension.
Am2r please
Zero mission is a great game, but Fusion was a unique change in the series, with its horror aspects, its linear progression and the incredible story
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the coin drop game
You returning?

Putting the ninja game so low is CRIMINAL
Baby kraid 11:50
I agree the rinka's/onion rings are the worst
Dude it's not sax it's s a x
11:11 when I was a kid I got really good at this game, I could do the first half with ease but then I could never do the second half because the time would always run out, I would rage a lot while playing it because it gives you no time for the second half of the game
This game at launch was a really special experience, the Miiverse was so entertaining. It was really ahead of its time, hardcore survival horror, most reviewers werent ready for it, "feels dated..."
This game was perfect I love the environment and game play. Just wish it was longer so you can max out all of your weapons and go on a killing spree.
Answer: NO
was i the only one who didnt know about the charge attack in 10:24 ?
Wait, I have that book! It's $100?!
3:19 This comment is about a year later, however, there are many, like a statistically significantly larger than the national average number of furries in the IT industry. You are likely going to get very good IT advice from a furry.
I love how you siad "thanks to the soundtrack and graphics" when you wer in the room where the song just beeps.
I would personally put basketball at #1 probably just because it’s the only one I’m good at😂
4:34 was all I could think when playing this game as well
Glad to see you got out of the well From last vid, Luker!
Bro, Luker, you didn’t have to do Birmingham dirty like that 😂
No way, Battle Quest is top tier
I like the part where after he rewrites the section for Kraid he wins the fight
I think the one on the right is the remake 😃👍
Underrated game that did some pretty interesting stuff
0:38 I got caught off guard by the Minecraft hurt sound.
No, but it is a great game
Metroid Fusion has always been my favorite game in the series despite how railroaded the "exploration" is, and that is mainly because the atmosphere is just so... damn... good. You feel uncomfortable and unsafe constantly in this game and every aspect of the atmosphere feeds into this. My favorite example has to be the introduction of the Nightmare and how that wonderful abomination is handled. The fight itself is a little clunky and pretty difficult, but the buildup to that thing is amazing. The SA-X is great too and eventually being able to actually fight it is a phenomenal feeling, not to mention how it saves you afterwards and you're left to wonder if it was just tunnel visioned on killing the Metroid, if it maybe thought it could kill both of you, or if it decided "the enemy of my enemy..." and intentionally protected Samus to ensure SHE could beat the metroid. Still though, there's something special to me about how Nightmare is built up as a complete mystery you know very little about until minutes before you fight it, and even that really doesn't prepare you for the uniquely surprising and uncomfortable experience you're gonna have with that thing.
My only big criticism with this remake, oddly enough, is a point of praise for you. I agree Zero Mission is pretty short, but this game in comparison felt a bit too damn LONG. And I don't mean that as in "11 hours is too long for a game," I mean "11 hours is too long for THIS game." While the game's length is considerably longer than most 2d Metroid games, I found myself from about a third of the way through the game onward thinking "GOD NOT ANOTHER BASIC METROID BATTLE, PLEASE GIVE ME A REAL BOSS FIGHT FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THE WORLD, JUST LET ME HAVE SOME KIND OF MEANINGFUL PROGRESSION OR DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE." And it did eventually give me what I wanted in the form of the digger robot, the Zeta/Omega/Queen metroids, and the surprise Ridley fight which while not very difficult was pretty exciting... but man the middle of the game was a bit of a slog. Traveling and exploring turned out to be more of a highlight than looking forward to exciting boss fights, and personally, the exciting boss fights are a lot of what makes me love Metroid games so much. While the idea of tracking and exterminating the Metroid threat felt cool and all, I really felt like after a while the more basic Metroid forms really should have just been relegated to being treated more like normal enemies rather than having to do this grandiose easter egg hunt for every single one. Eventually that became a tiresome chore and not something I was looking forward to having to do over and over again in every new area. I only started looking forward to it again toward the end when I started getting more varied and actually challenging boss fights. But like I said, that's my only real criticism, and as you mentioned, it's greatly made up for by the comparatively rich combat system with parry/counter mechanics, quick swapping between versatile beam modes, and basic enemies just generally having more dynamic combat patterns than in other 2d Metroid games. This game is an amazing Metroid title on its own and a phenomenal remake. If I had to choose just one more thing to complain about, it would be that the Ridley boss fight, while incredibly fun and a welcome surprise... was really short and pretty easy compared to the Queen Metroid and Diggernaut. Maybe this is really just a point of praise in the end, but I was having so much fun with that fight and its incredibly satisfying cutscenes that I really wanted it to last longer. As a side note, Fusion is my personal favorite Metroid game in the series and I can't wait to see what this company does with that one, since they seemed interested in it based on teasers at the end of this game and the heavy influence of the X in Dread.
I love how you always find the dumbest comments and pin them for everyone else to laugh at
The reason everyone memes on Kraid and hypes up Ridley is mainly because this dynamic is reversed in all future games. Kraid is laughably easy and not even a very entertaining or interactive boss fight in most games, being turned into a large stationary target who mostly chucks easily avoidable projectiles at you. Ridley, meanwhile, was turned into a real boss fight and was made the more difficult of the two, not only being given free movement but also usually free flight. In other words, for all future games in the series where they appear, Kraid is the boss who is mostly stationary with predictable and avoidable attacks, and Ridley is not only the more mobile and dangerous one but also can actually fly like his wings would suggest. Aside from that, I agree with your sentiment. This game is hard as a bitch and not in a fun way. A lot of its "difficulty" really just comes from the sheer clunkiness of being an NES game, but there are times where this game is just straight-up designed to be an ass to you and not in a fun way. It's also genuinely difficult, but not all of its difficulty is "genuine." Some of it is just bs. Playing this game with no guide, no map, no help whatsoever is asinine and anyone who says otherwise is just lying to get a rise out of you. It's not unbeatable by any means in its natural state but it's not remotely worth the effort. Admittedly though, it gets a LOT easier as you learn the locations of the important powerups and good orders to get them in.
I don’t think it’s horror lol it’s suspense at most I never played and felt I don’t want to play this lol
been playing metroid since the first one, don't have a switch, haven't played dread, but, just wanted to say fusion was my favorite, i loved every interaction with SA-X.
Thank you for no introduction talking
You are dumb.
I wish we’d get a multi-platform sequel funded better because I love this game. I think the biggest con for me is that I can’t get rid of the cricket bat and starter pistol.
i had over 200 missiles. I gave little thought into where they would go.
Short Answer: No
@@robertkenny1201 I hated it, and I've played every official game in the Metroid series. From an objective standpoint, it's not even remotely a good remake because it's not even a remake: it's a reimagining. It's obviously the product of a studio that were big fans of fusion and wanted to remake that game, but got stuck with M2 instead.
