In this video, we are modifying the 2016 Toyota 4Runner. We are replacing the tail lights on the 4Runner with black-out tail lights. The taillights are made by DEPO and it meets or beats the OEM standard. We are also installing extremely bright LED bulbs in the taillights made by USR. USR (Unique Style Racing) makes these extremely bright turn signals and reverse lights and the output is amazing!

Did it seem to you while driving at night that without the chrome they were out from a drivers perspective? I just installed mine and couldn't even tell they were on while driving. No issues though. They complete the look that should've been factory. That chrome trim on the taillight was ugly but definitely had some function.
Just installed mine. Love the chrome delete but when driving at night from my perspective (as the driver) it looks like my tailights are out. I guess because it's not getting reflection without the chrome on the side. Luckily, they're still clearly visible to everyone else on the highway. Just to make sure I had my father drive behind at night to make sure it wasn't a safety issue. He said no issues and I was clearly visible.

I went to the link in your description (R4T) to check out the taillight housings and they were listed $350.00. Then I went to your link for the LED amber bulbs (USR) and they had the same 4Runner Taillights made by Depo listed for $299.00. Just a heads up to anyone wanting these.
I have the Morimoto XB LED headlights so i'm hoping I don't get hyper flash with the new Super Bright Amber's in the new tails

I went with LASFIT and even with the CANBUS models, I get hyper flashing on an SR5. They’ve sent three sets out and all of them do it.
This would go well if there's a smoke / black housing for the 3rd brake light too. I seen cheap replacements online but has the wrong plug. looks like ijdmtoy has one but it's always out of stock.
Is it possible to disassemble the OEM front and tail light housings and plasti-dip those chrome elements?
I was considering just doing the outside of them. I never want to break a factory seal.

We recently put the black out tail lights and LED bulbs on our 2017 4Runner. The signal bulbs rated at 2,000 lumens were super bright as you see in the video. We got USR 921 reverse bulbs rated at 900 lumens vs. the ones you show rated at 800 lumens. The problem is that when I put the LED in one tail light to compare it to the stock bulb it was a good bit dimmer, not brighter as your video shows. I'm am the original owner and have not changed out the stock bulbs before. Also, I checked to make sure both sides of the LED bulb were lighting and they are. The LED 's are much whiter but they are noticeably dimmer. I was wondering if anyone has any reason why they might be dimmer. I contacted USR and they confirmed that I received the right bulbs.

Well super late here but did you notice your flashers going faster since you went with leds in the turn signals ? Like hyper flash but not so much because im assuming you still have incandescents in the front.

Which LED bulbs did you use for the reverse lights?
Twonz, you didn't line up the small white clip on the left rear lamp - it's what holds the light flush to the side of the 4R. A lot of different model cars have this same clip. It's what should be aligned first before you line up the other posts...watch the video and you'll see what I mean. Just FYI.
BTW, don't know if you missed the clip on the right side...if you missed the left, most likely you did the same on the right.

So this is without the module? Turn signal was still the same and no additional reverse light.

That small amount of extra black in the tail lights is not worth $300 to me. Could you not just paint it black with plasti-dip?

Before y'all install the new taillights why not put a uv protective film over them? Why spend all that mondy for these without adding that into the kit or installation?
Like a clear coat to protect it from yellowing?

Those lights don't look OEM to start. They blacked out already.
So we put on super bright led or hid light bulbs to get the brightest possible light output. Then we go tint the housing to make it darker. That logic 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The housing is black but the bulb areas aren't black haha. They are still clear and retains the reflectors
