Everyone hates on this wheel base because it is too big or looks different to Fanatec and Moza. I dont care about that as long as it works - and it seems like Thrustmaster did an amazing job. I got one and it's brilliant. In terms of feeling this is the absolute best at this price point. And ps compatibility is the cherry on top. I tried the Moza R5, Fanatec CSL Elite also the CSL DD and the Logitech G Pro dd11 racing wheel. This thing feels a lot closer to the Logitech than all the others.
@@jean-francoisrenaud8389 I never look at it. However, I do feel it. I know when the wheel-base is not up to snuff. The axial thing seems like a good idea, but not at such low constant torque values. Remember, torque is not about the "weight" of the wheel or having a heavy feeling wheel. Higher torque is all about rapid movements (fast bump) feedback. 3 to 5Nm torque for wheel weight is great (how hard it is to steer), but road effects need instantaneous torque of 10Nm or higher to feel convincing.
People complaining it looks ugly😂 the last thing I look for in a wheelbase is the looks. Not saying you need to agree with me, of course not, you are entitled to your opinion. But I do find it interesting that someone would care so much for the looks of a wheelbase
If i told a non simracer that toy lookin thing was 600 dollars they would laugh. A csl dd and moza r5 look more expensive than their price but this looks worse 😂
My first wheel was a DIY direct-drive setup, using an FFBeast with 15Nm torque. Since then, I've upgraded the motor from a hoverboard wheel to a high-quality industrial servo motor with 32Nm torque. It’s incredibly smooth, with zero cogging-just pure, raw power. I don’t think you’ll find any commercial wheelbase that matches the quality of a custom build. The wheelbase, along with the steering wheel featuring paddle shifters and 12 buttons, cost me only $500 to make. Good luck finding a 32Nm wheel for that price anywhere!
Great to see TM back with an absolute winner .They should sell it wheelbase only tho as so many racers have a couple of wheels and T-CLM pedal set .I switched up to G pro but anyone on a more limited budget will love this for sure .I'd like to know how hot it gets after a few hrs as have a feeling it may struggle a bit in that department compared with more expensive offerings.
because I have a Podium DD1 I was dismissive of the T598 but when I think about it this is the cheapest direct drive setup ( steering wheel , base and pedals ) that is officially Playstation licensed you can find
On wills video I made a comment about waiting for Rob Dahm to build a 4 rotor version. It was a joke but it seems this motor configuration the torque could be increased by adding additional plates. The shape everyone is complaining about could also become smaller with more plates in the design when the technology is developed further. Yeah it's lower end currently but this is exciting new tech too me.
Just add more layers of traces of copper. Stronger magnets even a hallbach array with more power will do wonders. Also hopefully the software guys can utilize all the capabilities of the technology.
Looks awesome to me, TM just needs to flesh out their whole lineup. I have the t-lcm pedals and I love them because I came from the t3pa, but as flagship pedals for the brand? It's embarrassing honestly. I haven't seen anything on it, but I'm hoping they release just the wheelbase. If my rs-gt wheel would fit on it, that would be a great upgrade.
I have them too, great pedals, but the lack of replacement springs on the thrustmaster website is a bummer.. because i had both of the throttle and clutch spring break on me due to metal fatigue... and i had to contact customer service in order to get new ones.. because ofcourse i had them longer than the warranty...

Typical TM. That's one of the reasons I was eager to get out of their eco system. But this base certainly is interesting for those who are still on older low end Wheels, or just getting into sim racing.

Btw does LMU require a high end pc or something ?I bought it today and getting stuck in the menu setting up my wheel where I click on next bit to edit and nothing happens .My pc is a couple of years old but never had any problems with FM or ACCp.s also it takes an eternity to load a race .
I have a T300RS with the T- LcM pedals. I’m trying to figure out if I want to get this base when it’s sold by itself because I love the petals I have already, or if I go with the TGT2 since I only use this for Gran Turismo seven on the PlayStation. I have a second rig with triples and a fan tech system, but I wanted a separate system for console and VR games. Very unsure which way I want to go.
Im playing gt7 competitive i have the t300, myself and i will upgrade to this wheel 100 percent dont buy the tgt 2 this is far better if gt makes the software Work this wheel is much better
Hi nice video! Can you mount third party wheels onto this base? It is ps5 compatible so this would be a worthy buy if you could mount a simHUB GT or Formula style wheel to it. In my opinion they should focus on a PS5 / PC wheelbase with a nrg style quick release and load cell pedal set (without the wheel) that enables third party simHUB wheels. Personally I don’t like the plastic and too many concessions have been made. In my opinion, it’s kind of lost in terms of who this should cater. It’s one of those wheelbases that will give you a taste and you will want to upgrade
If you buy the thrustmaster quick release upgrade, you can mount any wheel, but if its not a thrustmaster wheel, it will only work as a circle, i dont believe any buttons will work, but i could be wrong.
@ Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware there was an upgrade adapter kit. As far as I understand, maybe we can think of this in three stages, but not in any specific order. 1) The third party wheel would need to have simHUB functionality. This wheel would need to be plugged in using a USB cable (for power) to the windows PC for the screen, buttons and shifter / clutch paddles etc. in order for the device to work through simHUB. 2) The quick release that is already mounted to the third party wheel (you can use a spacer too) will then be attached to the upgrade adapter which means when it is fully assembled, basically locks the wheel in place. This is primarily for the steering and force feedback only. 3) Now with regards to the ps5, if the adapter upgrade that you mentioned can mount any simHUB third party wheel to the new thrustmaster base, you can connect the third party wheel by usb to a windows “laptop” or windows “tablet”that has simHUB installed. A laptop would be best because the usb coiled cable that comes with the third party wheel is generally too short but of course if your desktop pc is nearby with a usb powered hub then this can work too. This setup will work entirely independently from the thrustmaster direct drive base and the ps5 console. For third party steering wheels with screens, SimHUB as a program can then transmit the telemetry data picked up from the ps5 thru wifi to the laptop computer, which is then transferred to the wheel provided that it is under the same network. So if I understand you correctly, you were more or less thinking that only the steering and force feedback portion can work when you mount the wheel to the thrustmaster. You are correct, but in actual fact most third party wheels have to be powered either thru USB or using a wireless QR adapter etc. This will enable the buttons, shifters, lights, control mapping etc. I just personally think that thrustmaster could really take advantage of this situation if they just focused their efforts on providing the base and the pedals as a set. They don’t need to produce the steering wheels is what I am trying to say. Let the sim racer choose to get any other third party wheel (it happens anyways) and let them attach the wheel of their choice to the Thrustmaster base. By doing it this way they can use better quality materials to manufacture the direct drive base and the load cell pedals. They wouldn’t need to make so many concessions just to keep the price down because of the wheel. It’s one less component to manufacture and worry about. In this day and age the use of plastic is not the way to go especially for a direct drive wheel. To me this makes way more sense because a lot of sim racers would want that ps5 compatibility which is what thrustmaster has currently to their advantage. All the other brands like MOZA or Simagic to name a few, struggle with this PS5 issue. If thrustmaster can sell a DD base with (PS5 compatibility) that includes a pedal kit for $500 to $700 and has the ability to mount any NRG style Quick release simHUB wheel, wouldn’t that be a better solution? Also they don’t need to reinvent the wheel and just adopt the 70mm NRG universal quick release solution. Now keep in mind, I’m thinking primarily GT7 on the PS5 as simHUB has the ability to capture the telemetry data through the home network. For other racing titles that will all depend on what simHUB can support or not support. Unfortunately it looks like they purposely locked this base for their own wheels only which is not a smart thing to do. Such a missed opportunity. I want to buy a DD bundle but i only have 3-36 cm space as my chair has a wall behind me so Fanatec seems a little to big, Moza seems ok only if i hard-mount closer to my monitor, these drives have very long shaft from base to wheel. @ no problem. And please don’t take this as millimetre perfect, but 24 cm / 9.5 inches from the rearmost point of the base to the front most point of the wheel. This does not include rear cable connections.

@@bullit199just look at the top of the wheels center plate, its flat, and you can only insert the wheel in 1 orientation since its a keyed insert, super easy to center
Gone thru the user guide trying to confirm. Only 3 user adjustable FFB preset?? No FFB preset saved per game is not acceptable. Imagine you spend days/months to come up with the perfect FFB settings per game and you have more than 3 games.
@@joeschmoe5009 Well 20 years old Logitech wheels runs on the logitech gaming software which you can create unlimited profiles for any number of games. TM better allows this in the PC app when it is finalized. Can't imagine it would be hard to implement. EDIT: Looks like there is a phone app which should do this if compatible.
Thrustmaster has a habit of either abandoning products or "improving the build" (making it more cheaply and it shows) after three years. This was reasonable with the majority of their legacy and wider product ranges; controllers and FPS keyboards are subject to the whims of current fashion. The Thrustmaster business model was once entirely built around "Worn out? Buy another!" mentality. Although this has changed a little, they have clearly not fully left this mindset behind. Despite the ability to change rims, the price of 500USD for the wheel, wheel base, and pot-pedals is indicative of a disposable product mindset. What I hope, but what is not yet clear, is Thustmaster put all the quality into the wheel-base and threw in a cheap wheel and pedals to get people started. The hope being customers would upgrade to using another of their add-on wheels and pedals. Would I buy if I was just started out? No. There are too many alternatives in the market with a solid history of on-going support for not much more money and a proper quick-releases. Should you buy it? I cannot say. In Europe at least there are a growing number of stores where you can go to try out entire ranges of sim gear from different manufacturers. Even if you are only buying for occasional fun play, it is worth taking to time to visit such a store should it be an option for you.

Thrustmaster has a habit of either abandoning products or "improving the build" (making it more cheaply and it shows) after three years. This was reasonable with the majority of their legacy and wider product ranges; controllers and FPS keyboards are subject to the whims of current fashion. The Thrustmaster business model was once entirely built around "Worn out? Buy another!" mentality. Although this has changed a little, they have clearly not fully left this mindset behind. Despite the ability to change rims, the price of 500USD for the wheel, wheel base, and pot-pedals is indicative of a disposable product mindset. What I hope, but what is not yet clear, is Thustmaster put all the quality into the wheel-base and threw in a cheap wheel and pedals to get people started. The hope being customers would upgrade to using another of their add-on wheels and pedals.
Would I buy if I was just started out? No. There are too many alternatives in the market with a solid history of on-going support for not much more money and a proper quick-releases. Should you buy it? I cannot say. In Europe at least there are a growing number of stores where you can go to try out entire ranges of sim gear from different manufacturers. Even if you are only buying for occasional fun play, it is worth taking to time to visit such a store should it be an option for you.
Thrustmaster could make the best most expensive wheel in history... yet like Logitech, it would STILL look like an oversized plastic toy.
Until they add the load cell brake it isn't worth a hill of beans
know of any other playstation compatible direct drive wheelbase, wheel, and good starter pedals for this price?
No matter how good it is, it looks awful, not sticking it on my rig.

well to be fair all the other choices look like bricks too. I really like the look of the t818.
