    Cut a square out of your old 5 Quart jug. Works awesome for a drain pan. Low profile and a cap to drain. Also cut some holes and permanently tie wrap it to frame so shoot is always there to drain oil down channel and into aforementioned jug! No raising on blocks required

    What length and size extension cord do you use with your generator? Also thank you for the oil changing and filling tips.

      I believe we have a 10g cord that is 25' to get into the house. We also have a cutover power transfer switch that's being installed this summer so we can run part of our house directly from the generator.

    What size crush washer does the 9500 use?

    Do you know is there is a quick drain kit for this?. I will be having to do this myself and I need tubing.

      Not sure if there is a specific one for this unit or a generic one will work. Please let me know if you find one.

    Also get a marked container (old orange juice or something just over a quart for yours) with your exact amount of oil to use. Then it will always be easily filled no measuring.

    Is there a torque spec. for the drain plug?

      Not mentioned in the manual: cdn.westinghouseoutdoorpower.com/owners_manuals/WGen9500_manual_web.pdf - I just "tighten" it.

      @@TheGergeDIY Yes I noticed that too. Same with me. Maybe like an automotive drain plug. Usually 15-20 FT.LBs.

    How many quarts of oil do you put in it?

    • @TheGergeDIY
      @TheGergeDIY  3 місяці тому +2

      The manual states that it has an oil capacity of 1.16 quarts (1.1L). I didn't measure, just made sure the generator was level and filled it 'til the dip stick indicated it was at the correct level. Here's a link to the manual if you need to look anything up: cdn.westinghouseoutdoorpower.com/owners_manuals/WGen9500_manual_web.pdf

    Yes, right now it is not starting when I click the battery switch on. It might be an issue with the switch and needs to be replace. I had added some oil to it and then it just didn’t start after that.

      Have you confirmed the battery is fully charged? That's about all I can think of. Sorry I'm not more help.

    I never run it with propane. If I run it with gasoline and now want to run it with propane what should I do, Sir?

    • @TheGergeDIY
      @TheGergeDIY  2 місяці тому

      @SVO77489 - Please see page 18 of the manual: cdn.westinghouseoutdoorpower.com/owners_manuals/Westinghouse_WGen9500DF_manual_web.pdf for complete instructions.
      If it were me, I would figure out how to drain the gasoline into a gas container before switching. As I mentioned in the video, I've never run gas in mine. With my last generator (different brand), I ran gas, and wasn't so good about not leaving gas in it for long periods of time, resulting in a gummed up carburetor.

    Your carburetor gets gummed up because ethanol in your gas does that. Use ethanol free gas and you won't have that problem . I ONLY use gas in my westinghouse 9500.

    • @TheGergeDIY
      @TheGergeDIY  22 дні тому

      Yep, that's probably it. I just run propane; cheaper, cleaner, and no gum. Never had a drop of gas in my generator.

    You're over filling your generator with oil, it suppose to show full on the "dip-stick" without screwing it in.
    Another thing is, you are making a mistake of changing your oil with synthetic oil, you do that only after your generator had its "run-in" time for certain amount of hours but not before, it harms the engine, check how long it is the "run-in" on this engine.
    Check this facts out.
    I agree with not using gasoline.
    Thanks for the video.

      I just got a Westinghouse generator and the oil can be filled until it starts to leak out and the dipstick still shows good. I find the dipstick only useful to make sure the oil is not too low.

    Any idea why the manual says to drain oil before draining the fuel before storage? Manual says to drain oil before draining fuel to avoid damaging unit. But why?

      That is weird. It shouldn’t matter which one gets drained first. The generator is off Lol. There’s no way it can get damaged just by doing drains, no matter which one you do first. Just my opinion 🤷‍♂️
