I bought the ally x and steam deck both last week and decided I would return the one I like less. Steam deck 512gb was 600 after tax while the ally x 1tb was 850. So 250 more but double storage. I fully went into it thinking I would keep the steam deck and even debated not buying the ally x after watching videos like these. Most UA-camr seem to favor the steam deck. For me the ally X blows the steam deck out the water. The native game pass is huge, better performance, plug in and now I have a pc, and can play every game in 120hertz at 1080p with great battery too. It’s a case by case situation. I’m trying to give the steam deck a chance and play it more but besides the oled and touchpads there’s nothing that makes it better while the ally has so many appealing features. I think it’s a preference thing but I’m glad I gave it a shot or I would have missed out. People make windows seem like it’s so complicated but it’s super simple imo, if you have zero technical skills though I’d go with the steam deck for ease of use. at the cost of limiting some options. They’re both great with different features for different people.
i just think it outperforms more because of it's battery life has doubled more then the steam decks with 80whr thats more than ever you would be able to play 10hrs if you play on low wattage mode
Ally X + 4TB SSD + 1TB Micro SD + Power Bank + Docking Station + monitor (if you didn't have it already) + eGPU (if you didn't have a PC or Gaming Laptop) = $2500++
I almost bought one. I had an Open Box ally X in my cart. It was excellent condition for $713, and after going to check out, it was $756 after taxes. I thought bout it and realized I don't really need it. I have a powerful gaming PC with a 4090 card. I will just play my games on it. The funny thing is I just sold my Asus ROG ally Z1 Extreme with the upgraded 2TB and My Steam Deck with the 1TB because both of these weren't being used. They just sat looking pretty and collecting dust. But, It is an amazing machine! I wouldn't mind having it. But, like you said, the price! It is up there. 😉👌
It seems like you mostly play at home. If you’re still interested in handhelds, I’d recommend you looking into buying a cheaper handheld then streaming games from your PC to the handheld. I’m guessing you probably have good WiFi since you got a 4090, so it should work like a charm.
@Benjorbius I have 1GB internet and Asus AXE16000 Wifi6E router, but it doesn't do me any good if my internet service provider doesn't deliver. We had a heavy storm the other day, and my internet has been down ever since. They said it impacted around 100 customers. You don't realize how important internet is until you no longer have it. I am tempted to pick up this Asus ROG Ally X. But, of course, once I do something better, I will come along. I am going to wait and see what comes out. I am mainly excited and waiting for the 5090 card to drop. I am ready! 😉👌
In Singapore, just 2 weeks after the official launch here, already there are discount deals of up to 25% off the retail price for brand new ally X. That makes it a no brainer for anyone who wants a good handheld pc
I don't understand the whole price argument about the ally x when it has 1 TB of storage. Your going to eventually upgrade the storage in your pc handheld, and its going to cost you $100 or more which puts you at either $50 less than the Ally X or the same price. This has to be psychological, people would rather pay $699 for the old ally and then upgrade to 1 TB or more which puts them at $800 and that makes no sense make to me
This thing is $1570 after tax and 2 years of Best Buy protection here in Canada…$1244 after tax without BB protection. Hell no…you can damn near buy a laptop with a 4060 in it for that price that will crush it in performance and longevity. Yea it’s not a handheld but still portable…and meanwhile the Legion GO is on sale here for $749. There’s no way in hell the X is worth $400 more then the GO.
Dont forget OG ally z1 extreme has the risk to burn your sd card but the ally x so far no issue and you can play games with anti cheat and you can use a vr set with not so many hoops and loops like the deck. Depends on what everyone wants

You cannot get a Steam Deck AND A proper gaming laptop for $800. There is not a gaming laptop under $1000 competing wit the Ally X
If you can spend 600 you can spend 800 it’s not exactly much more considering double the battery and storage

Great concept but I only want one device. That’s why I’m sticking with the OG Z1 Extreme Ally until The next gen model comes out.

For this price point gaming laptop makes more sense i brought steam deck cuz i cant find any laptop at this price point in my country
