fun fact! "the zone" is actually called a flow state! it's a well researched topic, it's that sort of feeling when your thoughts become more conceptual and you're just calm+focused on what you're playing (and you'll probably lose track of time). It can happen with lots of other activities too, not just video games! There's a lot more brain activity in different parts of your brain when you're in flow, highly recommend looking it up!

any ways on getting into the zone more and more often?
Asking bc whenever I used to do that (whether it's with all-nighters, work, workouts, cooking, drawing, writing down drafts of whatever writing piece, etc.) everything goes smoothly, I complete a lot of the stuff I wanted, and everything ends impressively (and if not impressively then at least not in a dumpsterfire kind of ending). Nowadays it's rare for me to get into the zone so when I do I cling onto it like it's the only priority in the world bc I know if I let that zone fade away, I won't ever get it back for a long time (think months or even longer than that) and when I try to get back, I'll never complete as much or do things as well and smoothly. Taking all that into consideration you can imagine how frustrating it is to have that zone fade and how helpless one can feel right after.

Awesome to see the Rhythm Heaven series getting the love it deserves! Something that helps me stay calm during a high-stakes run (though, thankfully the stakes have never been *this* high, except on "Try For Perfect!" attempts.) is taking a breath in for four beats, and then out, in time with the song. Makes me feel focused and in-sync with it. Sometimes I time my breathing with certain prompts (like the spiders in Packing Pests) but I dunno if I'd recommend that ;^u^
Rhythm heaven has extremely strict timing windows. It's not for the faint of heart.

Instead of having to go into the menu and resetting for the skip, you can press the reset button on the Wii and it boots you right back up into the game.
There's no reset button on the Wii U console.

She is also pretty good at speedrunning too; she was able to learn Kaizo games easily given the right teacher and practice levels. She could eventually be the most popular speedrunner UA-camr.
Rhythm Heaven aficionado here: The "hits that your unsure of whether they're mistakes or not" are referred to as "barely" hits. They do not count as hits and will automatically end a perfect run (aside from a few exceptions in the DS game).

The speedrun website says that everyone who submitted played on a 3ds, which is probably why they were able to shave off so much time.
She's playing Fever, not the original.
That's a different game. You can even see at 12:14 that everyone played on a Wii (except for the one other person that played on a Wii U)
Rhythm games are kinda like school. Everyone's supposed to go at the same pace and you are graded on your accuracy and you can't get a better score without restarting the whole level.

- You advance the menu by releasing 'A' after pressing it. Since this is essentially a menuing speedrun, how fast you can press AND release 'A' makes a huge difference
- The Korean Wii version is the fastest overall
- A hard reset on Wii is faster than the pause reset on WiiU

that "a little bit wrong" moment is called a "barely;" in this game they're counted as mistakes, but in Rhythm Heaven on the DS (rhythm heaven gold in japan) there are a few games that consider a barely to be "good enough."

They also effect your score much less than full misses, but dont be going out of your way to get them
There is indeed a blindfold category for Rhythm Heaven Fever.
Honestly, I feel like the hardest bit about that would be the menuing and not actually playing the game, since everything in the minigames has audio cues. At the start of those speedruns you have to go to the Wii home menu to hit restart and it takes about 20 seconds while blindfolded so take that as you will.
I feel like being blindfolded would make you better cuz at that point it'd be like playing an instrument without looking at your hands
@@audeeophile from what I’ve seen of blindfolded runs, the only issue in mini game wise is built to scale because there is no indicator what side you start on, so you have to memorize the side the peg enters on.

Those "Little mistakes" are called "Barely". Barely hits are counted as a miss or as a hit depending on the minigame on older RH games. Starting on Fever though, all barely hits are counted as misses.
However, in an older rhythm heaven game, you could get a Superb medal while getting all barely hits lol (lockstep is the best example).
They also didn't count against perfect runs, making getting a perfect in lockstep much easier in Rhythm Heaven DS compared to Megamix on the 3DS

Barely hits are considered a miss in the code, they impact your score negatively, but not as much as a total miss

An all barely run of Lockstep will result in a try again. However you will still get a perfect from it

in speedrunning a minute can be a very hard thing to fight for when it's down to the wire like this
Well since it’s a rhythm game, the ONLY real way to save time is by load times and menuing. So a minute is quite a bit. However skill-wise her run is pretty much on par with any other all medal run without screw ups. (At least by the game)
I see Jaidens brain is structured a lot like mine. A giant jenga tower that gets shakier and shakier until one simple mistake causes the entire thing to crumble.

Hey, advice to all up and coming speedrunners: meditation before grinding a category will almost guarantee that you will stay calm during a good run. While you are meditating, imagine yourself getting a pb and take multiple deep breaths. I have had multiple panic attacks from running all sports in wii sports to the point where I choked records, and trust me it works. Also take a break every few runs to lower your anxiety or frustration, meditate for a few minutes, and you’ll be alright.
Not a runner myself but I love this advice. I'm glad you were able to find something to help calm you down so you could keep running without risking your health

I will say some of the animations looks so cool and was in ways I didn’t expect, when she was talking about FF2 animated was a version of the robot but it was her drinking water and it just made me realize woah that’s so good I don’t want to stop looking at it, now I can’t finish a glory of a video because im looking at a smooth sphere robot human head
Edit: this also happens in the tap troupe sun section for remix 10 right after and then the discord thing, some of this stuff just seems so realistic but yet not and I can’t stop thinking about it

"Honestly, not even close" Actually, sub 1 minute of difference from WR on an hour long speedrun's quite close. Sure there's a lot of practice to be made, but it's reasonable.
That and a minute within the hour could easily be chalked up to menuing, you'ld be surprised how much the seconds/split seconds add up.
In a normal speedgame being a minute off would be insane for a newbie. Yet you also need to take into account all the time during the run you have no control over (which is essentially 99% of the run because you can't skip or speed up any stages.) So the amount of time save available is minimal at best. I would agree that the menuing would account for a decent amount of time loss (especially with the anxiety likely causing suboptimal inputs) though I don't know the specifics as to how each revision of Wii or WiiU affect load times (or if usb loading is legal.)

Just the fact that you were able to get Monkey Watch and Tap Troupe perfect the first go around means you're doing better than the vast, vast majority of Rhythm Heaven Fever players out there! Those in particular are really tricky, even to some who have a musical background.
Jaiden really is a gamer despite her animation leanings. She learned Kaizo quickly with a proper teacher and levels, she did nicely for the Cooking Mama 2 speedrun, she got most of the game perfect in her first run. She really could be some speedrunner who is an animator in the future.
I *do not get* the monkey watch thing. I have 0 trouble on that one, but I struggle on some other ones. I always found monkey watch to be one of the easiest ones. This is not a humblebrag, like I said I have others that are difficult to me.

@@BenDavisSkydiving I think it all depends on realizing that the beat continues normally after the monkey color switch. I haven't had much formal music training, so I was a bit confounded at why I was always messing that one up, but then I realized that the purples are in time with each other, and you don't just do a half beat every time a purple shows up. Plus, I believe that's the first time the game throws a half beat at you, so if this is one of your first rhythm games you have to unlearn what you've been doing this whole time.
I think that 6+ mistakes gives an ok result, but also they probably allow a few consecutive mistakes in a row bc u can't immediately fix a mess up in the rhythm
