A shear pin is designed to break when you run over a chunk of ice, a rock, or other large debris to prevent more important parts of your snow blower from being damaged. The shear pin will break to prevent the auger and gear box from failing. When the shear pin breaks, you need to replace it so the augers and gear box can engage.
