Hi! Thank you for the videos, it helps a lot! I have taken the duolingo English test three times. Every time they say it could not be certified because of my speaking response was not related to the question they asked. I feel like it is really unfair because I didn’t hear one of the word they said out loud. Do you have any tips?
I have had one other student tell me they had this response, and I think its a terrible thing for them to throw out a test over one question! My only guess is that they could think your response was too general. If you missed a word that really changes the meaning, then maybe the response doesn't sound specific enough to their question. That's a complete guess. Their study guide says that if you don't understand one of their questions that in stead of answering, you can explain why the question is difficult. If you do that, I think it's important to make your reason specific to that question. I would suggest that you explain what you think the question means and whatever you can about the part you cannot understand. If they reject it again, then you an appeal and say per the study guide published on their site you chose to explain why you can't understand the question. This test becomes frustrating very fast when they start rejecting submissions! I hope that they accept your next one, I know its very stressful!
@@TeacherSally Dear Sally, I took a test 2 days ago and I faced the same issue. My test has not been approved because they said my speaking response was not relevant. During the test, I did not understand one of the listening prompt and I used the tactic that you've mentioned above. I explained that I do not understand the question and why the question is difficult for me. But unfortunately it was useless for me... I will take the test again and I wonder that will it be OK if I pass the question without giving any answer or without saying anything?
Thank you for this video! I'm from Brazil, I'm trying to improve my English and this video really helped me! Thanks for your time, keep doing videos like this, they're so useful! Gratitude ☺️💖🙏🏽

Thank you so much! This lesson is exactly what I have been looking for for a long time 👍 I've made a lot of mistakes while dooing this exercise, but I'm happy 😁 📌I've noticed one little typo on 7:39 : the word "compliment" is missing the letter "L" I don't want to be rude. I just hope it can help (suddenly) 😅 And one more time: Thank you fo your work which make us better 😊

I took test last week witgout preparation and i got 75 score. I thought it would b easy test that i can easily get 115 but actually it was so difficult . How can i improve my score
I think the best way to improve is to just keep practicing each question type. Try to notice in your subscores which question type was the most challenging- it may be just that these questions are very different from types you are used to. I also recommend reading Wikipedia articles in English because its good exposure to a variety of vocabulary words that Duolingo uses a lot.
On Duolingo, as long as you do the contraction correctly, it's ok. For example You can say "It is correct" or "it's correct" and get the full points. If you were to write "Its correct" it would be missing the apostrophe, making it a possessive determiner and they would count off a bit for that.
Yes. Well, the level of the sentences on the Duolingo English Test vary a lot. Some people get very short and easy sentences, but others will get very long and difficult ones. They say it levels with the test taker, but I also think it's a bit random.

Hi , you did not emphasize on the contractions and punctuations. Do they affect your score?
On Duolingo, as long as you do the contraction correctly, it's ok. For example You can say "It is correct" or "it's correct" and get the full points. If you were to write "Its correct" it would be missing the apostrophe, making it a possessive determiner and they would count off a bit for that.
thanks, Sally. Are you given these kinda sentences in real test?
Yes. Well, the level of the sentences on the Duolingo English Test vary a lot. Some people get very short and easy sentences, but others will get very long and difficult ones. They say it levels with the test taker, but I also think it's a bit random.
Hi teacher Sally, where do you come from? I'm from Brazil
For question 3, wouldnt you write 'that' with a capital t, because it is after the two points behind 'you' ?
In some of the questions there are some contractions used. Instead of using them can't ee write directly like they are instead of they're?
Here is a complement for you, that dress really compliments your eyes.
