How many of you commenting are actually in a metal band? You all say she sucks but this is exactly how Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy started. Gossow didn't know what she was doing, hurt her throat, and had to receive vocal training. This girl isn't bad and she just got started. Man is there anyone who comments on here with intelligence? You all sound like a bunch of preschoolers. She's famous and you're not, get over it! haha
For those who are wondering "Where are they now?", I found info on two of the band members of This Too Shall Pass: Julia (the singer/screamer that Alissa coached) is now a graphic designer and photographer. Arissa (the drummer) died from health complications; Alissa posted about her passing on Instagram back in 2015.
not gonna lie. I only went through all 6 vids just because of Alissa, she's just so, beautiful :3. Not gonna comment on Julia's music/band. I only loved her makeover, and the way she kind of felt more comfortable socially, THAT'S IT! lol. But seriously, good job Alissa, good job Julia, hey I'm sure everyone's happy.
For someone who didn't have much experience with metal and especially not screaming, she did very, very well!! Try to go from 0 to that within a month! Well done!!
I loved this video. It's great that Julia has supportive parents. Insecurity in young people starts early, in the home. Having a loving and supportive family is a huge part of being able to cope with all the crap that life throws at you. btw. I used to think Alissa was great, now I think she's wonderful !
she probably did have that homework but the producers probably couldn't make room for it or it didn't make sense in the telling of the story they wanted to send across to the viewers. not everything that is filmed make the final cut.
give her a break, a month before doing what she did on stage she was an extremely shy, bullied girl that had only sang in the shower. She did a great job.
if alissa white was roaming the halls of my school when i was in hs i wouldve had to go change my pants several times a day not gonna lie lol i just saw this for her really xD
This was really cute actually in the end-- it was a little difficult to watch on past parts because she didn't seem to be trying her best, but in the end it turned out well. Alissa is an amazing mentor and such a sweet person too
This was a geat tv program, beacuse Alissa help a lot that girl; I don't know why these people criticize so much to that girl instead, all of you have to feel good that mtv calls to Alissa and ask for her felp because it helps a lot with her teaching and make great things for that girl and make her fell good with herself and to confront her problems. Fucking awesome, that's the last i will say.
You're welcome Julia, I'm also a metal vocalist so it's really awesome to see how good you got in such a small time frame, you had one of the best teachers you could ask for :)
I hope everybody can also relate to this because I know most of you out there have been bullied or something like that, just let it all out express yourself and don't take shit from anyone, thank you again Alissa for helping us realize this ;)
She literally had the best coach. I'm proud of her, she did her thing! I'm kinda jealous, I'd love to do this now and I'm 40! Female screamers, in my opinion, are so freakin talented. To be able to sing AND scream, AND sound amazing... that's amazing shit right there!
She is so lucky that she has that kind a metal shows in the neighberhood. And have all those awesome people on school. I'm the only metal kid on school, from more than 800 people at school and i'm the only one "different"
Best school ever! I'm the only metalhead at my school. It's hard to sit with my group of friends (which are the pranksters of the class) and listen to them obsess about One Direction or whatever they like. Btw I'm a chick just so you get the idea of how much they obsess. People think I'm weird because I am a metalhead. One of my teachers somehow found out (we wear uniforms so idk how she found out) and talked to me about how it was just a 'phase' and that I should turn to God for help (I go to a Catholic school and I am Catholic) even though my religious life is just fine. But I never get sick of it because I get the pleasure of being unique.
I hate how most people are getting a hardon for Alissa. Dont get me wrong I love her vocals shes amazing but the majority of the Arch Enemy fans were so disappointed when she took over as vocalist and saw her live once and was like "Holy fuck I love her" the same people that were disappointed when Angela took over the position and realized shes awesome.
what a transformation she had very awesome I was bullied in highschool and before that so I know how that felt but later on something changed in me that I stoped caring :P
She's so lucky there are metal fans in her school I'm the only one in my school and I have to one to relate too and I consider no one in my school my friend cuz they lie and there mean I even got beat up 2 times and I got in trouble for it :(
Life gets better when school finishes, hang in there. I went through the same thing where even the metal kids didn't like me and today 12 years later I don't have contact with anyone I went to school with. Life starts when you finish and you get to meet people and they will like you for who you are. Trust me.
I'm not into metalcore, but I was completely surprised and pleased to see something metal related on tv. :D (quite a rarity these days) Let alone a girl who wants to growl. And I can so relate to that paranoid thingy. I totally was Julia when I was still in highschool. I still think that place sucks, but it's indeed all about the mindset.
Well I'm not really someone to call others "posers", but this girl just changed her entire look and did all of this just to be cool. What happened to being yourself? She said she didn't even listen to metal, and now she becomes a metal singer and changes her entire image. What's the point of confidence if you're trying to be something you're not? I feel like there are plenty of people who would want and deserve this more than her.
the sound is awful... it sounds like she is just a bad growler/screamer.. and that missed the point of this show.. and dont let me even start talking about those lyrics...
Don't expect that she is as good as Alissa in her first performance. I mean she's a normal girl with no experience and this was more about the idea what music can do to you
That is some fuc... wait.. That is some kick ass black metal scream she pulls out!! My band Horns approves!! Keep it up! hang in there I should say. Next time put in a flavour of Alissa and Angela Gossow. That would be sick
In the end, Julia did it! All you haters stop picking on her already. She's confident, has better self-esteem, new look and new attitude! At last everyone was head banging like crazy. Good job, Julia. :D \m/
Metal when not sub-genre-d is very mainstream, very light. Listen to Metalcore, Deathcore, Death Metal, Doom Metal, Grindcore, Crabcore, Mathcore, Thrash Metal, Groove Metal, Black Metal, you will see differences in heaviness of instruments, changes in how melodic the songs are, and the vocals will change as well. When you say Metal, it transforms to Heavy Metal, so like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc, Nu Metal is the current mainstream metal with bands like KoRn, Slipknot, Hollywood Undead etc.
awesome episode and wow I ended up diggin This Too Shall Pass. they were pretty cool and OH DAM Julia became a queen of scream! Loved how the band blended Screamo\emocore, Hardcore and metalcore and Julia wow she could pass for any rock\metal\punk genre. She did well =)
"Metal Makeover"
ends up looking like Avril Lavigne
i smirked
omg so true xD
girugaymesh Oh my spaghetti monster! You're so right!
She really is)
Alissa is at their school and they have no reaction. If I saw her at my school, I'd flip my shit.
Exactly my thoughts, like holy shit
Djordje Gusman I would probably as well. I watched the whole thing just because I'm pretty much the same way as Julia.
Djordje Gusman Like fucking same
SAME LMFAO
She wasnt in Arch Enemy that time
How many of you commenting are actually in a metal band? You all say she sucks but this is exactly how Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy started. aww that’s so sad 🥺
Awhhh man that's sad asf
Thats sad
What??? Nooooo
not gonna lie.
Sameeeeeee
Yeah same here! Alissa is the best!
Same 😂
Skip skip ALISSA
Me Too
For someone who didn't have much experience with metal and especially not screaming, she did very, very well!!
Try to go from 0 to that within a month! Well done!!
... and I hope she doesn't (didn't) stop there... would be a shame!
"I had to headbang so I wouldn't cry!"
I love Alissa. I'm so glad she was able to help Julia break out of her shell.
Arch Enemy!!
They shouldve got Alissa on the stage.
thats soo cool she actually confronted the people she thought were talking shit behind her back and they were like were team julia
I loved this video. It's great that Julia has supportive parents. Insecurity in young people starts early, in the home. Having a loving and supportive family is a huge part of being able to cope with all the crap that life throws at you. btw. I used to think Alissa was great, now I think she's wonderful !
I see Alissa walk in my house as my coach, I would die of a heart attack!
Alissa dresses really nicely.
Right? I'm jealll
She changed her LOOK and now society likes her?
No
Alissa is the bomb for helping this girl! (in a deep metal scream) I THINK I'M IN LOOOOOVVVVEEEE!!
I am a little dissapointed that Alissa didn't give her "homework" and made her listen to metaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllll :C
she probably did have that homework but the producers probably couldn't make room for it or it didn't make sense in the telling of the story they wanted to send across to the viewers. not everything that is filmed make the final cut.
Alissa you are a truly amazing person, just seeing the way you helped her made me cry... It was just simply inspirable
Wow I'm so impressed that this school is letting students mosh; I once got detention for making goddamn eye contact with someone
They did a great job both Alissa and the girl.I would prefer to hear some lower growls and not just these high pitched screams though
petros papatheodorou I feel like I'm her rehearsals they were lower maybe her nerves just got to her on stage
give her a break, a month before doing what she did on stage she was an extremely shy, bullied girl that had only sang in the shower. She did a great job.
I have the opposite problem where I can’t get the higher pitched screams only the lower haha I mean it’s good to have both I think
What high pitched screams? Fucking dumbass! Literally no one in this episode screamed. They literally only low pitched growled.
At least she gave it a shot..... even if it wasn't that great
"We don't bully" Yea there was a camera in your face. I bet you'd say that.
4:32 she can actually scream really good black metal
Dani filth vibes
if alissa white was roaming the halls of my school when i was in hs i wouldve had to go change my pants several times a day not gonna lie lol
i just saw this for her really xD
To everyone - your very welcome! I just wanted to make sure all The Agonist fans that couldn't see it in the US could watch it too! :)
This was really cute actually in the end-- it was a little difficult to watch on past parts because she didn't seem to be trying her best, but in the end it turned out well. Alissa is an amazing mentor and such a sweet person too

Julie nailed it shes going places
Alissa was the most amazing coach ever it was amazing to work with her
her vocals fit for black metal
"I had to headbang so I wouldn't cry"
\m/
alissa is such a sweet heart ! and best coach I have ever seen on mtv or anywhere else.
love to scream with her one day
She looks like the old Avril lavigne from 2009 with that hair
I also think she needed more time to practice :/ in many parts she was off
What a lit school, mostly everyone listens to rap at mine, lol
You're welcome Julia, I'm also a metal vocalist so it's really awesome to see how good you got in such a small time frame, you had one of the best teachers you could ask for :)
6:32 "I had to headbang so I wouldn't cry" LOL I love this woman
I hope everybody can also relate to this because I know most of you out there have been bullied or something like that, just let it all out express yourself and don't take shit from anyone, thank you again Alissa for helping us realize this ;)

what a transformation! this is one of the very few made episodes I've ever really felt touched by! WOW!
OOOOOH Alissa fancy seeing you here
She did really great for only screaming for a month!!!! This was a good episode thanks for uploading it!!!!
Julia is so awesome or bring brave through it all! It's cool that Alissa taught her to scream! Julia has courage I could never have! Good job Julia!
that was bad ass, metal rocks... Alissa was amazing
During the performance Alissa was head banging in front of a bunch grandmas lol I lover her haha
She is so lucky that she has that kind a metal shows in the neighberhood. And have all those awesome people on school. I'm the only metal kid on school, from more than 800 people at school and i'm the only one "different"
Merciful heavens.
I must admit it..the song that julia sang made me headbang... seriously 😊
Thank you for uploading!
Its very nice to see how Julia grows up to the first video till now! Alissa rocks!!!
This school has a literal metal show case wtf im jealous
It used to, I think that might have been the last year for it though, I know it was gone by the time I went there
A whole month with Alissa! that's heaven
Not best school ever dude sorry
This girl should be famous...!
I hate how most people are getting a hardon for Alissa. :P
No wonder mtv kids dont listen to metal, if they are being shown this... The music just sucks. Maybe Alysa should have just written a song for them.
Victor Tesla if it was about guitar then they should put kerry king
She's so lucky there are metal fans in her school I'm the only one in my school and I have to one to relate too and I consider no one in my school my friend cuz they lie and there mean I even got beat up 2 times and I got in trouble for it :(
Life is so hard 😓 I so feel like I will get beat up again for nothing
Life gets better when school finishes, hang in there. I went through the same thing where even the metal kids didn't like me and today 12 years later I don't have contact with anyone I went to school with.
Life starts when you finish and you get to meet people and they will like you for who you are. Trust me.
I didnt see any metalhead. Only posers
I'm not into metalcore, but I was completely surprised and pleased to see something metal related on tv. :D (quite a rarity these days) Let alone a girl who wants to growl. great job Alissa !!!!! Congrats Julia !
Best episode EVAR!
thanks heaps for posting these. was a good episode and she didn't do too bad.
I love Alissa!
I really want to know if this girl is still metal!! haha
She is a good vocalist but the song was awful lol
Julia is awesome
she did really good she's amazing
I loved this story
This is so ingenuine, holy shit.
I wonder how's Julia doing today, and if she's still doing metal.
Julia is doing amazing. Shes a graphic designer, and will officially be my sister in law next year ☺️
@@legalized2011 amazing to hear that! All the best wishes to all of you in this phase of your journey through life! Big hugs from Madrid!
Best avril lavigne cosplay
Her screams need a lot of work, not bad though for the short amount of time she had
alissa replied to me on twitter one day. words cant describe how happy i was
If it weren't for Alissa, I wouldn't have gotten further than part 2, glad Julia stopped whining.
I know the feeling too, I live in Mexico where most people doesn't even understand english and loves reggaeton.
Well I'm not really someone to call others "posers", but this girl just changed her entire look and did all of this just to be cool. What happened to being yourself? I like what Alissa did to that WoP shirt.. makes me want to chop up all my band tees
Thank you so much for the upload, was fun to watch.
omg, this made episode really inspired me...and Julia too :)x
the sound is awful... it sounds like she is just a bad growler/screamer.. and that missed the point of this show.. and dont let me even start talking about those lyrics...
Don't expect that she is as good as Alissa in her first performance. I mean she's a normal girl with no experience and this was more about the idea what music can do to you
she sounded like she was trying too hard
Ja kinda
Alissa White-Gluz was an AWESOME coach for this girl!
man this is mtv show... still beter than most shows made for tv
That girls band is so lucky to have met Alissa and I Wrestled a Bear Once
yes you did =) metal is an expansive universe with all types of sub genres
Her problem is that she worries too much about what other people think of her. If someone gives you a weird look, so what? Just fucking ignore them!
Respect lvl rose by +10 for Alissa
i can hear Alissa say aww little Julia is all ground up ;)
That is some fuc... wait.. That is some kick ass black metal scream she pulls out!! My band Horns approves!! Keep it up! hang in there I should say. Next time put in a flavour of Alissa and Angela Gossow. That would be sick
She's young. She has time!
In the end, Julia did it! All you haters stop picking on her already. She's confident, has better self-esteem, new look and new attitude! At last everyone was head banging like crazy. Good job, Julia. :D \m/
Metal changes you for the better. It teaches you to not give a fuck on what the hell people think of you.
Soo awkward and weird to watch...
Why?
petitanyell1
Terrible bands, terrible screams and lyrics by this girl, and just super awkward lol.
Johnny Xiong And you expected more from mtv why?
nandy9285 I dont know haha. Did have some pretty cool guests come in i guess.
thank you its julia this really means a lot.:)

alissaaaaa u are the best ... i want to see you in mexico again :D pleaseee!!!
Nice, 10 FPS, what a time to be alive!
What's up with the crappy frame rate? Is there a smoother video of this somewhere else? If anybody knows tell me
She did pretty good in the end!
awesome episode and wow I ended up diggin This Too Shall Pass. they were pretty cool and OH DAM Julia became a queen of scream! Loved how the band blended Screamo\emocore, Hardcore and metalcore and Julia wow she could pass for any rock\metal\punk genre. She did well =)
all good music teaches you that =)
Im from holland and im a huge The Agonist fan, so thanks so much for this vid
she's lucky to be in a school like that... sooo lucky T.T
What is Julia’s band name and which bands where in this school concert?
