- In this video I will upgrade the Nexus 7 Wifi 2012 to Android 7.1
and I can say that this is the way to go.
Camera Wifi everything works fine and the tablet runs like a train on this software , make me forget how i wanted to kill this device for real when it was on the Original Rom , just because of it's slowness and always busy doing other things.
Now this baby is free like an Eagle.
Now a word of the Creator Developers
and people behind the scenes.

By downloading and installing this ROM you agree that you do so at
your own risk, and that you understand that it probably voids your
warranty. (But does anyone still have an active warranty on this 2012
device?)
Introduction
@AndDiSa's AOSP 7 builds look pretty nice, but I needed something that seamlessly upgrades from CM13. @GtrCraft who provided our CM13 builds has moved on to other devices, so we need a new CM maintainer. I may not be the right person for that job... but I can at least share the build I made for myself. Perhaps someone will be motivated to join the fun or even take over.

Installation instructions
Back up your data and previous ROM with TWRP 3.0.2.
Download from link below.
Wipe system, cache, dalvik.
Also wipe data unless you are coming from CM13.
Install the ROM.
Optionally add opengapps-pico.
With default settings it will give an error about insufficient space. To avoid that, first copy this .gapps-config file, perhaps edit it to your taste (instructions here), then copy to the device in the same directory as the opengapps zip. The opengapps updater-script will look for it there when you install opengapps.
Reboot.
WAIT for system to settle before you decide it is slow. Some of the app optimization which used to happen during initial boot now seems to happen in the background. When it's finished, responsiveness will improve.

Thanks! Had some very persistent boot splash lockups with the CM animation continuously looping like in your video at first reboot (bot sure whether caused by either the CM14 or the open gapps image I installed as well or by having to do a wipe/factory reset before another try of installing the zip, but anyway after two or three hard reboots (power off in recovery mode) the miracle finally started to happen. My good old 2012 Nexus 7 has come alive again (I was somehow stuck at CM12 and Android 5.1, whereafter the CyanogenMod updater did not find any updates anymore). Thanks again, great video.
Thanks Puck - worked a treat - got the Nexus back to actually working! Much appreciated
Well done Pine 👏👏👏👏makes me happy ❤️
Hey, thanks for your videos!!! You helped me a lot with your other video. How has cyanogenmod 14 been so far?
I installed cynogenmod on the same device (grouper) thanks to your help and a few other places, I knew nothing of rooting before, and it got really slow, so Im thinking of moving up to nougut, but just wanted to see how your device has been with the upgrade. Thanks a lot, like your vids and the way you talk about stuff. Remind me of my father, but just a lot more tech savvy.
Je Juan :) thanks my friend , well I made a IOS PuckRom for the Tablet and it's on KITKAT now because of that :) Great tablet , i,m happy you improved so much , Your father ? Ahahah tha's good I hope he is also doing Fine there son ..have a great journey with your Tablet and talk to you soon again .
Je= He ..
Yes but I need at least the play store, and when I tried to install open gapps pico, I received the message "insufficient space on system partiition, Error 70". Is there an easy way to just install play store?
get 1mobilemarket bro or apptoid many app stores out there , but make sure to go for legit
sorry-not ultra advanced here---just trying to find out if in fact the nexus 7 2012 first gen tablet CAN in fact be upgraded by an amateur? my 2013 got several notifications and upgrades, but 2012-i don't know if it's possible to upgrade? ---and not too techy to do? thanks a lot for any help. sorry---for some unknown reason your video here will not play, so I can't actually see your process. sorry.
It's the first few steps..doing the rom in the tablet and the twrp I'm not sure abt..so it's the beginning steps that I'm not sure abt ...ok ok it's all of them
Hi. Thank you for this great tutorial. My Nexus 7 2012 run SO fast now compared to when it was running Android 5.11.
BUT.... I'm getting the error "google play services has to be updated to work" or something like that. I have translated it from Danish 😁
I have tried several gapps. Nano, Pico, Pure Nexus, Mini, Micro etc.
The Pure Nexus gapps for SDK 25 was the only one to complere install correct.
But all the google apps is still closing down and not working
What can I do about it?n
Thanks in advance 👍☺
Sorry i dont use no Google play service //
By the way a updated video is coming up
channel48 ok. But it keep saying that gmail has stopped working, and the same with many other google apps. It makes the tablet unusable. 😓
channel48 hmm I didn't wipe data and I didn't come from CM 13. Can that maybe cause my problems with gapps?
Could be bro gapps is a whole lot maybe look for gapps lineage os 14 and chose micro
I'm tempted to make the jump to lineage OS just to see how my going on five year old tablet would fare. quite pleased how bszaosp lollipop is performing on my Nexus 7 2012 grouper.
I did the same with my Nexus 7 2013
Awesome ROM,
Hi friend can you give a link to your 1st or previous video?. Would like to view it. Thanks
first video ? go to my channel , hit on Videos and do a search for this device
where is the .gapps-config file, and instructions to edit?
Check the description i have some info there , about Gapps , I never insert Gapps , I believe in lite firmware , gapps is very energy consuming , and besides , it is not allowed by Google , cause Google apps is NOT OPENSOURCE -
Yes but I need at least the play store, and when I tried to install open
gapps pico, I received the message "insufficient space on system
partiition, Error 70". Is there an easy way to just install play store?
By the way, I succesfully flashed the CM14 zip file, so thanks for that!
Well i don't use playstore , i use 1mobilemarket and my apps that i backed up to my pc
it's kinda easy , just go to google , type 1mobilemarket , download it , give permission for unknown sources and install it - only download stuff that is legal and free , don't look for paid apps for free -
Thanks man
I put lineage 7.1.2 on last night and the performance and user experience is superior to the stock rom which is the biggest piece of crap ever on this particular device. are there other newer roms available for testing by chance?
welcome to the lineage os world 👊😉👌 what phone ?
ah i understand you have same device - lineage dropped support since lineage os 13 but a lineage os 14 is out there in the wild never tested it yet cause im very happy with my Ham Rom - find that video and mod
why does he look like those rich ass 90s rappers
I did huh
great video, my nexus 7 doesn't run properly i would really like to do it as well
Then we gonna fix that today - I have video comming up - do you have Twrp installed already ?
...great video! I cannot accomplish this...
keep up the good work :)
You are using the 2012 Nexus 7. It will also works on the 2013 Nexus 7
No it will not BUT , Lineage OS is out for NEXUS 2013 the FLOW
Hi, does CM update if they release Oreo version or will I need to re flash new rom?

They need to sue their self. As sorry as their updates are.
Hee David Blackwell - Big name in Rasta world , but I,m working on a nice update for this tablet , it's fully charged and ready for brain surgery update :) don worry , we have developers out there that fix this issue for us :)
link dos gapps?
can i send you my tablet and do the update for me ........:0
well i,m sure you should be able to do it , where do you live? I,m all the way in Netherlands
I live in Canada. I've tried to do it but not that tech savvy. I've made some calls and found a computer shop that will do it for me. Let you know what I think abt it. Don't really want to pay to have it done but it is what it is....by the way, 5.1.1 is awful and I've never had that many problems with my tablet, I go to open an app and freezes or shuts down. the lagging is horrible!
well took my tablet to get done and they couldn't do it...what to do????
LOL they could not ? why not tell them to watch this video , i sure they could then :) well i don't know I don't have a private jet , or I would help you before New Year haha :)
plz help for the love of god lol! could you send if possible every step to do this....if you have something and just copy and paste it....send it to bryanjonlaverty@gmail.com that would be a big help
