I really though Scan had lost like 6 different times. The BC didn’t seem to do that much but all the scourge kept hitting them and the science vessel count just stayed high and healthy.
The BCS also killed like 3-4 scourge minimum every time they died to scourge so they were really gas efficient. I think if Zerg was more careful with their earlier mutas they could have kept the marine count lower maybe, really liking the flyer armor upgrade that zealot does
Damn, the comment preview on mobile showed your comment and spoiled me :( Why does UA-cam make it so you can see comments without actually opening them....
Fantastic match! Really had high hopes for this matchup because in their respective TvT and ZvZ matchups they really demonstrated solid micro/macro and strategic sense. Mind and Killer were no slouch either, but Scan and beast knowing when to do that neck snapping move with their better micro closed out some games pretty cleanly. TvZ is pretty much the peak bw has to offer imo, so much unit variety. I think the devourer is the only unit I haven't seen used in that matchup. Riveting gameplay with the asymmetry. Mirrors can be more boring because it can be rock paper scissors build order RNG or an insane micro fest that it's kind of RNG in a way(knife fight in a phone booth analogy with zerg). Hoping that Scan can win so we can see that TvZ vs ZeLot. But beast vs ZeLot wouldn't be so bad either Following CNSL 5 series through your casts really really paying off with these games in round of 8 and 4, very good setup with player backstories/preferences/playstyles. (I know this is a broken record moment but a visual bracket would help immensely because I do miss some of the casts)
Probably a large contributing factor to the win was the deny on the Attack Upgrade on the Evochamber. Beast never decided to finish his upgrades on Melee attack so he was at 1/3 (Attack/Armor) entire late game versus Scan's 3/3. Zerglings doing 3 damage versus 5 probably hurt a lot (2 to firebats/medics). Obvious plague negates that but the army isn't always plagued. And +6 missing attack on Ultras may influence a bit too.
Some amazing big brain plays from Scan! Stuff like the Engi-bay over an egg so zerg cant click on it, and reinforcing a drop-attack in the mid game by building bunkers up near an enemy expansion that they have to clear out. Never seen anybody else do things like that. Great stuff! :D
Awesome game! Late game TvZ is so chaotic inherently. Was nice to see some more tactical use of BCs. They get used like Guardians so often - just stuck there and forgotten about. Was great to see some repair, more yamotos. TvZ is just so wild though - so much going on!
Wow I like your casting a lot more than your livestreaming! You're so knowledgeable, informative, and entertaining when you're not being salty or negative (usually fueled by your often abusive twitch chat).
It is weird, hearing you casting without Tasteless's jumping in every now and then, but I'm glad you are back to casting! Great commentary, and thank you for Tastosis! :)
Indeed. It does 260 explosive damage, reduced by armor. So to a 3/3 Devourer it still does 255 dmg vs 250 hp so it always one shots. Only Ultras can sustain more than 1 Yamato Gun.
Somewhat, but it also seems that the counter to defiler/ultra zerg is more bodies and some big boys haha. Scan's macro kept him in the game even when he took some big losses from plagues and his constant pressure tilted the game in his favor. The BC's where definitely the gamechanger there. We see a lot of terrans lose to that zerg comp because they just go mass bio/science vessels and slowly bleed out while the zerg grows for free. I think Scan played a smart game overall.
@@misterringer It felt to me like scan played science vessels somewhat poorly. With that being said, Scan's "poorly" is still better than most best. Edit - I think Irradiete game could have been better.
@@blacklight4720 vessels were indeed used poorly here. Far smarter to D matrix the BCs than fly the vessels in alone attempting to irradiate and dying to scourge. I mean he had yamato so keeping each BC alive longer translates to a ton more dmg to defiler/ultra/hatcheries. Of course I don't think Scan played all that sloppy otherwise...excellent use of splitting his forces to split the zerg players attention. Of course things are gonna get messy when you are moving two forces on opposite sides of the map lol.
Arty I ❤ you man , I work all the time but when I’m home I’m literally only watching your stuff here man for like the last six months. So thank you so much man I use to play all the time 😊back in 2002-2004 era it was much different then brother.
I wonder, When the engineering bay blocked vision on the egg, isn't it possible to plague the eggs without hitting the assimilator reducing on the eggs to 1 hp and then using a lurker in the right angle to finish of the eggs by targetting the assimilator from the right angle? Still big brain move and it makes breaking in much more tedious. Still, not unbreakable.
So what are the best uses of yamato in these types of games? Maybe save them exclusively for ultras under dark swarm? Does yamato even hit units under dark swarm? I don't even know. Helping the vessels keep the defiler count low?
Nice trolling. This map is awful for Terran. The only saving grace is that light in resources like Artosis mentioned. In late game it starts to get kinda low econ and Terrans thrive in that kind of a game. The problem is getting there.
Z lost because he neglected the expansion at 6oc and never got overlord speed + drop. even a tiny group of lings with an ultra and a defiler getting into any T expansion and dropping a dark swarm there would have completely cut off T out of this game. BCs can't really stop those kinds of drops and Z always has plenty of overlords to spare. cool game nonetheless
At a guess: they're more micro-intensive units vs throwing lings and ultras at a problem so you can't divide your attention across the map as easily using them, and the science vessel count meant they wouldn't effectively hold entrenched positions for long on defense if used in a more stationary capacity as they're generally intended to. Also slower units overall which makes them less effective for the kind of cross-map raiding he was constantly doing, and if he'd leaned more into relying on lurkers Scan could've spent more attention on BC control rather than bio focus which would both negate the lurkers entirely and mean he'd probably do more efficient damage from the air vs eating so many scourge/spore hits when his attention was diverted to bio control. It wouldn't necessarily have been a bad decision, but it's not as easy as "these units would've been good to have here."
@@quanang8816 Overlord drop upgrade is 200/200, and on a map this large you'd also need speed for another 150/150. That is not a small investment when you're already on a relatively low-resource map, and what would it have really gotten him? It's not like he had trouble accessing Scan's bases until very late in the game, and by then Scan had BCs that could clear out the overlords if they did drops-meaning sure, he'd kill the workers (not the base since that would just lift), but he'd also lose 100% of the units he used to kill it since he wouldn't be able to get them back out of the base after hitting it. Maybe don't be so quick to call players stupid when your suggestion isn't really that well thought-out.
Absolutely flabbergasted at the lack of mutas. Nothing matches up w plague better than mutas and beast didn't make a single one past the mid game. Why would you create 8 scourge to get maybe one or 2 plagued vessels and then be dead when 2 mutas could kill 7 plagued vessels in 1 second. Plus the 12 o clock island base? The second those eggs were destroyed what the hell were ultras and scourge going to do?
The plagues were so spot on and Scan was not using D matrix on his BCs nor was he using restoration so I think you're right that there was a huge opportunity in this game for Beast to dominate with mutas late game. How many times did Scan manage to bring those BCs back to repair them? That lost Beast the game.
Crazy intense game, love Scan’s style of playing.

Seeing firebats is satisfying.
I'm suprised the BC's never finished off that geyser in lower left. It looked like Scan was setting up to be able to do it with 1 yamato or something.
So assimilators are smaller then the geysers, huh? Crazy.
This build is sort of what the original Terran campaign implies in a way if you look at how those early missions are set up actually.

Killing the evolution chamber was huge, so Scan had an upgrade advantage for a long chunk of the game. Makes a big difference for cost effectiveness

It can be a really poor choice if the zerg anticipates it but at this level of play very few terrans go this heavy into them.
