    10/10 video. I don’t even plan on doing anything to my rear derailleur but got 7minutes of pure educational fun out of this.

    Would have appreciated a complete removal and replacement of the derailleur and cable. Leaving the cable attached is a big cheat! 🙄

    No tips on how to actually assemble the entire thing? Can't seem to find info on how to properly setup shifting from scratch - including the cable - the tuning is totally dependant on this and I'm not sure how the new shifting cable + shifting/derailleur setup would work. They always have the videos/blog articles etc talking about the tuning with the cable already setup. Any suggestions?

      @VitorGuerreiroVideos Assuming you've got a chain on the bike, let's start here w/ the shifter cable and housing playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLGCTGpvdT04QA-ebMFtDA0l7HW0WKbsgy.html After that, I'd go here to set up the derailleur limit screws and indexing: ua-cam.com/video/UkZxPIZ1ngY/v-deo.html

      @@richardsarson Yeah, I had issues with how much is "decently tight" to have it started on the derailleur adjustments from the tuning video. Wasn't getting the "quite right" setup and thought it'd be from lacking the knowledge regarding the tensions to the cable.

I squeezed the rear brakes and the brake handle went all the way to the bars. I don't get it it grabbed before I tried getting on it and Help please suggest something I've not tried. Thks Richard

    When replacing a derailleur but the chain is still good, I often like to just remove the lower pulley from the cage. This lets the two cage halves rotate independently to get enough room to slide the chain around the cage tab, rather than breaking and rejoining the chain (or burning through consumable master links).

    • @mattgies
      @mattgies Рік тому +1

      Yep, I do the same. Less work to remove and install a pulley than a chain.

    • @bmxscape
      @bmxscape Рік тому +2

      works fine just make sure to tighten the top pulley after, as rotating the two cage halves will loosen the top pulley bolt.

    I have a shimano system and i just cant figure out for the life of me why it isnt allowing me to install it back into place. When installing it seemed to have work and the gears ran more smoothly, i went riding and was working. Next day, went to test ride and it came undone. I just dont know what I'm doing and info is so limited,

    A good solid video full of good advice, which I coincidentally was chatting with my riding buddies about yesterday, and which I can now refer them to! Thanks Park Tool & Calvin! (The only thing I would have added would have been to warn people about T30 mounting screws in certain Campag derailleurs . . . & direct mount derailleurs are going to make it partially obsolete in a few years . . . )

    Curious as re-attaching the blue cable was not demonstrated. Does the derailleur need to be in its relaxed position or do I need to hold it in certain position?

    • @parktool
      @parktool  Рік тому +1

      If a cable is removed, it will be in the most relaxed position for re-attachment.

    At 3:20 it recommends lubricating the threads, if not using thread locker. What kind of grease is applied to the threads? Is it like Finish Line dry bike lubricant? Or silicone grease used for plumbing?

    • @jmwing
      @jmwing 9 місяців тому

      not a chain lube, but a general cycling lubricant like Park Tool polylube 1000

    This video misses what is baffling me. My removed derailleur bolt (off my old derailleur, to install on the new replacement since it was lacking the integrated bolt), has some kind of thin washer like clip attached to it, & this clip also has a tab piece that projects sticks out from the bolt flange about 1/4" so the bolt will not sit flat if i were to just screw it into the bike frame hole, to hold the derailleur. What is odd, is that the tab appears to fit into a slot in the back side of the derailleur, but the bolt secures from the front. So it really appears somehow the bolt should be attached to the derailleur first. I can't figure out how to get this bolt + clip in place on the derailleur bolt hole, as a 1st step. I bought a replacement derailleur, expecting I should just use this same bolt that goes in the frame. But this spring + tab does not seem to exactly fit slots on the back of the replacement hangar connector thin piece. (The original was a shimano tourney, the replacment is a tourney tx). This video shows derailleurs with the bolt already attached to the derailleur, not as a separate piece, & the derailleur body appears much thicker where it holds the bolt. The tourneys' bolt openings are as a thin as a washer, where this clip area on the bolt should fit. I see no way to slip it on. The slot for the tab does not go all the way through. I did not expect this at all. Now my bike is all apart, & it is my only transportation, & I cannot figure out what to do with this clip + tab on my mounting bolt. I can't get it off the bolt either.

    Calvin, in reference specifically to the RD8000 derailleur, in your experience, when the derailleur cage pivot pin interface starts wobbling, is the wear happening on the cage pin itself, or the derailleur body tube, where the pin fits into?

Can you make a video about compatibily in old bikes (or if u have made one and i havent found it, write down the link). Thanks a lot.. great stuff in your channel
