I'll admit to a dark side. I saw your title and it reminded me of a video that I'm too soft hearted to do. My dark side has always wanted to destroy some fountain pens on a video by misuse! I wanted to overflex, use bad inks, clean with the wrong chemicals, and more. I never dreamed of doing this to expensive fountain pens, just cheap ones. But I just feel bad, even for the cheap fountain pens! The closest I get is the occasional pen repair video where I rescue a pen from someone else's damage!

im with you on this one :( I wouldnt have the heart to do such things to any fountain pen - I do remember of my humble beginning with them and I just know that somewhere someone can start a whole passion out of such an item :D

Very useful tips Emy. Thanks for this video. We all Fountain pen users and collectors need to keep each point mentioned by you in mind.

Once again thank you Emy for sharing those very useful tips and your "safe" inks. Being a vintage collector, I personally only use Waterman blacks and blues and low saturation Diamine inks if I "must".
By the way, On #10, you are not off topic. In fact it is probably the best advice of all. If we don't share the hobby, on the long run, people will loose interest and so will businesses that invest in the hobby. Maybe it's not something we need to do to avoid the destruction of our personal fountain pens, but definitely something we need to do collectively to ensure the survival and hopefully expansion of the community.

Thank you Louis - those are safe and my others but without testing I didnt wanted to bring them out :D diamine 95% are safe and easy to work with in vintage pens also but since there are some options from them that I think it can make difficult job out of cleaning the pens ... I left them out :D
Thank you so much for the #10 point :D I think that we must be outspoken and to pass on the passion because this is the only way how this industry will strive to exists - if it has lovers and fp users :D

I don't know why..but when I imagine someone saying their pen caught on fire and they need a new one...its just so hilarious to me. This isn't a normal problem for other people.

Very interesting. Thanks! My ajustment foul up was when I tried to smooth out a problem fine Kaweco and I removed most of the tipping material. Well I learnt from that and luckly getting a replacement nib was easy. I’ll still experiment with some tuning but I must remember not to rush it. So far one fail and several successes manipulating tines to improve ink flow.

Thank you. This was very informative. I used to have a routine of flushing and cleaning my pen, every Friday evening. I thought it was a good thing. Perhaps not. I use the same brand and color of ink. So, there's no chance of something bad happening there. But over working the parts, might be my downfall. My pen lasts about two days, before needing more ink. Maybe, once a year, or so, of flushing and cleaning, is adequate.

🤔Lots of good advice. Thank you Emy. I agree that not using a fountain pen that is inked up is against the rules.😅🖊🖋📝

Absolutely! I used to literary watch how pens go wrong while left inked for months, this is one of those very hard lessons for me because this is how I lost one of my visconti Homo sapiens (chiantishire) - I let fit inked for 2 or 3 months and unused, with a yellow ink, it got to crust up and Clough the feeder and also make the barrel permanently stained
