Before you start messing with the nib, test a different ink and paper first. Some pen, ink and paper combos just don't go well together even when there is nothing wrong with the pen itself.
The narrator is phenomenal. I don’t know if she’s a JetPens employee or dedicated voice actor, but she’s missing her calling if she doesn’t do this professionally. Clean, crisp pronunciation and enunciation without being harsh. Great intonation and inflection with (thank god) no up-speak. I could listen to her all day.
TOTALLY agreed just compare with boring Goulet "comentators" or Anderson Pens ones in their, in my molested opinion, absurd and "vacuum" comentaries pretending to be fun forcedly...

I purchased the first of two Lamy 2000 fountain pens in January 2020. While cleaning it, it rolled off my countertop onto the floor nib first. Needless to say I was disappointed that it no longer wrote once the nib hit paper. I had planned to send it off for repair but my attention became focused on COVID-19 and my overall health. Today, on 5/29/2023, I came across this video which triggered the memory of the damaged pen, so I took it out and started to work on it following the instructions in this video. I discovered the tines were splayed and misaligned. I was able to repair the nib entirely on my own. Great instructions! Thanks JetPens!
LOL! I own fountain pens now. I used them when I was in school, but then I didn’t afterwards. I just rediscovered them and now every Amazon order include a fountain pen.
This video addresses the common problems I encounter with nibs... Thank you so much for a comprehensive review of these problems, complete with diagnosis ☑️ AND the excellent trouble shooting maneuvers ☑️ (so simple and direct, easy to follow with the demonstrations shown). We learned a lot. 😃👍
I do own a Pilot Parallel fountain pen, and it comes with a thin dark plastic sheet that is used to clean in between the parallel nibs of the pen. I actually tried the thin plastic sheet to clean the nib slit of my Monami Olika fountain pen while cleaning it, and the sheet worked as well in removing excess ink from the nib. 😊
Thank you JetPens for this AMAZING video. I never knew how my pen worked and now I’ve been able to fix the dreadful drying up problem completely. I was on the verge of buying a new fountain pen but then I found your video. You have saved me £180 !! AND my faithful pen (which I use every day) is transformed. xxxx so grateful xxxx
A common nail polishing board (the one that has 3 sections and 2 are for buffing) works much better than the paper bag. The paper bag can actually cause plugging and it's a harsher surface than a polishing/buffing board. Voice of experience here... 😁
Awk. Uncomfortable flashback to making a left-handed tip out of a right-handed reed nib. Such was what it was like to be a left-handed calligrapher in the 1970s. Emory boards do work well, but only the fine grades. Finishing the nibs required fine jeweler's rouge. Dozen's of Speedball C-3 nibs died to bring you this info.
@@chuckhainsworth4801 Exactly. The fine ones that are mainly for buffing. Equally as fine a grit as used for polishing metal. Around 12000 grit, the same ones that are available at Sally Beauty Supply. Gentle enough to smooth, without removing too much metal. I've fixed plenty of vintage nibs with one, and they're cheaper than what gets sold by fountain pen places. 😁
@@juliam.5810 All really depends on what the nib might need. I have vintage pens, on top of more modern pens, and some vintage tipping is quite small (especially seems to be the case for Sheaffer.) Usually, though, it's the finest, more of a buffer than for removing material. I do suggest checking the alignment, first. Might be just that, instead of being pitted or rough. And some vintage have needed nothing, and I don't buy restored. 70+ years of "getting it just right," I bet. 😉
Thank you so much. I fixed 2 of my fountain pens ,one too dry & one too wet! I couldn't have done it without your assistance. Saved my favorite pens!. Best regards. Lyn. Canada

IT WORKED!!! I'm so happy my pen is working! I tried soaking it in water previously but still nothing. Watching this, I was able to see my tines were jacked up from pushing down so hard out of frustration to get it to flow. I did the front and back pressing, as suggested, soaked it again, AND I blew canned air into the inside and lightly from the side of each tine. Reinserted the ink cartridge and the first time in MONTHS it finally works! If case you can't tell, I'm so excited and thankful you took the time to make this educational video. Thank you!
Thanks. With this video I was able to fix my Cross fountain pen which I stopped using since 2018 due to scratchiness and excessive ink. This Cross pen was a gift from Sunpower for my 5th year in the company (already not connected to Sunpower but big thanks as well -))
this video...its a saviour, honestly. my dad recently bought me new pen (quite costly), and all of a sudden the ink just stopped coming. this scared the shit out of me, but this video was so easy to understand, and pen's working now yay! thanks dude!
I appreciate this informative video, I followed your instruction for my Transparent Japanese Fountain Pen (Ink Pen), here we go, it writes so smooth again, in fact, for a while it was not writing anything. Now I am happy, meanwhile , I write with different Fountain Pens among all of them I adore Cross Fountain Pen. Very smooth and being used for a long time where no problem appeared. Thank you.
Wow 🤩 this was so useful! I’m new to fountain pens and I was having a hard time with my new Lamy (1.5 mm), I did some of the steps when it applied to my issues and within 5 minutes, my problem was solved! Thank you 🙏

Its not rocket science I know but you did address the issues in a much more organized fashion than all the others and your techniques were slightly different that what I had seen on other videos. I love this! I had a fountian pen issue, turns out it needed more ink after watching a video a while back on how to fix fountian pens, but I'll keep these tips in mind too!

Thank you for your great tutorial. I fixed my issue with the tines. I have subscribed to your channel. I also find that often if I don't use my pens every day and they are dry when I first try to write then, they will flow. Greatly appreciate it!
Thanks for this video! It's very helpful for me because my pilot penmanship is very scratchy and the ink flow was very poor. Now after watching this video and trying some of the methods, my pilot penmanship feels good to write now
I had a bent poor flowing nib just now. I did the slow adjustments like shown and BAM its better than ever and I feel like I can tune-a-pen. That's a $19.99 Thumbs up for saving me from buy a new pen. TY!!
I got a pen from Aliexpress and it worked fine except for 2 minor issues. One it was scratching the paper. What I did was polishing the nib with sandpaper. I took a piece of 800 grit sandpaper and rubbed it on a polishing stone till it felt smooth like silk. Then holding the pen in the position I would hold when I am writing, I drew a couple of 8s with gentle pressure. The nib is now smooth. The other issue was that every time I started writing It laid thick ink and gradually became dryer till it started skipping. The groove alignment trick worked! Thank you pen doctor!
Thanks for these tips. I have my late mother's fountain pen, with I coated as a child. I can see that I have a lot to learn (and the reason she didn't want me to take it tp school (age 10). Your video was just the ticket for getting oriented.
Great video! I had a small issue with a Lanxivi Yongsheng 3008 Piston Fountain Pen EF -- the pen was skipping and felt a little scratchy and gummy. I just got this pen a week ago, and I run Platinum Carbon Black in it. I know that can dry out, and it's hard to clean if it does, so I just ran the tip of the nib under a trickle of cold water. I gently blotted the water away and tried writing again. After a few very watery words, the smooth flow was restored. Worst case, I could have removed the nib/feed section and given it a nice jacuzzi bath with a drop or two of Dawn dish detergent in my ultrasonic cleaner. One or two cycles will usually clear out anything. I have a bunch of air pistons, so a good flush with clean water gets rid of any residual Dawn. So far it's working, and I love writing with a fountain pen now!
Had EF used for drawing. I ordered 2 identical pens and I’m a 🖋️ fountain pen junkie so I know my way around pens but this one wasn’t going to cooperate no matter what I tried! Thank you! Now I’m spending more time drawing and less time stressing over my pen! Btw I had to separate the tines!😂Doh!
Excellent video, very helpful and you are right to emphasise on patience and not hurrying through the steps. What is the best way to clear the gap between the 2 tines if there are paper fibres clogged up? I use the edge of a used shaving blade (remember the single blade razor?). Is there a better way to do it? Again, thanks for an excellent video.
Iv'e had a couple pens that always ran dry. I've tried a form of what you mentioned in this video and still had no luck. Then I pulled the feed/nib and checked the feed channels with a magnifyer. It turned out the smaller channel was being blocked by plastic residue the factory didn't clean out. The residue was actually attached. I had to scrape it clean with a very small sewing needle tip.
Thank you so much. I had a lot of problems with my sailor fude fountain pen. Everyone i spook to didn't have the problems i had. Because of your tips i fixed my pen! ☺
I have two fountain pens, a Diplomat and a waterman, the diplomat is currently broken because it fell on the tip. I heritated the waterman of my great-grandmother that died a year ago... it didn't write well so i didn't like it, the inkt flow was too low because the tines were touching each other. thanks for the video it was very helpfull! keep making videos like this!!!
After 2-3 correction attempts, I broke the tips. (For Kaweco tip) Then I watched this video. And. I fine-tuned the nibs I just bought without any problems. (Of course, again for Kaweco) Thank you.
Tip for photographers, if you don't have a loupe but have a 50mm f/1.8 lens, you can easily use that as a loupe by viewing through the front. This is what I did to find out my new AL-Star has a slightly larger right side of the tip, causing some scratch in some directions.
I should have looked at my nib with the loupe much sooner - I have one here! Turns out there's a manufacturing flaw, a pit in the tip. Well no wonder that pen never worked well, and never broke in. Now I'll know to inspect them asap if they don't write well so I can contact you next time.
Just got my first fancy fountain pen today, the only problem so far is I have to change up my grip so I'm not holding it too close to the nib. I still can't get these beautiful ink stains out of my index finger lol
You guys are the king's/queen's of stationery. Where can I buy that rubber grip you're using. That's a must have in my collection. My Sailor mannen pen is stuck and I cannot refill my pen now. *Cries*
Well, my dad dropped his pen and both the tines are bent like a bird's beak right now. This gave me some confidence andI'm going to try to fix it. Wish me luck. :P P.S.: It doesn't write at all right now so don't worry XD
This video is just for very basic tunning/fixing, for a more "especialized" way of fixing your dad's pen better look for Matt Armstrong's channel "The Pen Habit". Damn shame Matt threw the towel, he is my hero as I've adjusted a lot of my pens thanks to his videos, many of them got a second very deserved life. Regards.
super helpful, as I'm experiencing a lot of issues with a new pen (also relatively new to the world of fountain pens). How appropriate that you're using a Kaweco sport, the exact same pen giving me trouble. I've been writing with a Lamy safari, Lamy 2000 and two older pens my mom gave me (her basic school pens from the 70's made by Sheaffer and Parker). None of them give me the problems my Kaweco AL Sport is giving me (brand new pen).

Will try these tips.
Thankyou very much this made my pen working. Thank you thank you so much!😊
Just got my first fancy fountain pen today, the only problem so far is I have to change up my grip so I'm not holding it too close to the nib.
I still can't get these beautiful ink stains out of my index finger lol
Wow a complete video to fix fountain pen issues, thank you 😍
Sensibly shown / explained. However erratic ink flow can be contained by cleaning slit by using single razor blade also.
not had any of these problems, but so nice to know if I do, just how to sort them out
thank you so much 😄
before watchng this video my foutain pen wasn't writing at all and I just put it in water and it's writing perfectly
im currently using a lamy i have this ink dripping problem that helps soo much thank you

1:50 yeeeesss!! I diiiid iiiiitt! Thank you so much 😭 I thought I'd lose my favourite pen.
Excellent tips! Thanks so much!😁
Thank you for these simple and easy tips. Wow! I thought I had poor quality pens. Again, thanks.
Very useful. I have been able to fix an old Parker my grand mother in law gave my. Thanks a lot.
P.S.: It doesn't write at all right now so don't worry XD
Wish you luck then! ;)
Good luck to you...go slow...
Thanks, guys. Turns out he can't find the pen now XD.
Waiting for it to turn up in some random corner of the house. :p
Regards.
Just buy a new nib, or a new pen, if it's cheap. Even if you make it work for a while, that nib is shot.
I got a Kakuno second hand that was intended to be EF. Wrote like a B. Took me DAYS to get it writing normally.
I bought a kakuno too and it’s been such a disappointment despite the recent reviews. how did you end up fixing yours?
I just bought one. Very inexpensive. Hope I like it.
super helpful, as I'm experiencing a lot of issues with a new pen (also relatively new to the world of fountain pens).
Thank you so much for this video, saved my pens from my frustration lol
Excellent information thank you
great set of tips. thank you
Thankyou jet pens for such good videos....it is very useful....and your pens are so good...thanks a lot...
