BMW M4 CS vs Alfa Romeo Giulia QV

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Autotrader compares the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV to the BMW M4 CS and finds the BMW to be a smart, logical choice while enthusiasts and drivers will gravitate to the Alfa Romeo.
In this super saloon battle, we pit the BMW M4 CS against the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV. Why the M4 you ask? Well, that's because the M3 CS has not yet landed in South Africa - so we're using the next best thing.
Both vehicles pack more than 300 kW and 600Nm and send all that power to the rear wheels. While both manufacturers quote a 0 - 100km/h time of only 3.9-seconds, it's the QV that has the higher top speed, at 307km/h.
Trick adaptive suspension and hi-tech body construction mean that they turn and change direction like nobodies business. Both use automated gearboxes and both sound like the Gods, gargling broken glass.
We know which one we would choose, but which one would you?
Love the ending! That CS is £20k more than the QV and for what a stripped down version. Love my QV, well done Alfa
Bmw ALL DAY
Scwptic Frog - I also noticed that the CS costs more and is stripped down too...
Think about this, if a simple 4-door sedan has caused [and still is causing] such a stir in different segments, one wonders how the actual segment contender from Alfa is really going to do...from what I've discovered, it is going to be something that is going to give the Germans an absolute fright...especially the likes of Sokratis Gramnenos...our BMW fanboy...hahahahaha
i didn't know alfa had fanboys.
9:26 just in case you missed it ;-)
Let us know how many maintenance issues you have with that car.
This reviewer is fantastic. Loved watching this. Great job!
That M4 is a thing of beauty! 😍😍
I’ts always a pity when the reviewer mis informs the enthusiast!
The Giulia does not have a transaxle gearbox but is rather more conventional 8 speed gearbox with a trick differential justfor the record guys!!!
Fantastic car
Unfortunately, at the time of filming, the information we received stated that it was - we have since found it to be erroneous. Our apologies. [Chad]
I thought so. Hence my other post.
I thought so. Hence my other post.
The very fact that Jaguar (Project 8) and, in this particular review, BMW (CS) are desperately scrabbling to strip out their vehicles with limited edition versions in order to put up a fight against the Alfa tells you everything you need to know...and this reviewer still drove away in the better, less expensive, Giulia anyway!
The bombshell of the Giulia being dropped is one of the best things to happen to the car industry in a long time. So gratifying to see the rug being pulled out from under AMG, RS and, especially, M division!
Nothing like seeing an M3 owner's face in a car park, or a line of traffic, when there's a few other M3s there also! Not only ubiquitous - their owners sometimes being a slightly sportier version of crowd following Mondeo-Man - but Alfa has taken away their pipe dream of owning the best driving saloon car on the road!
Delicious!

That ending hit me deep in the feels... Love M power but the alpha is no joke
That blue is just gorgeous
The only bad thing on the Alfa is its timming...it's on the back of the engine...so....if you gotta change the timming.....you gotta take the engine out.
Well, its a chain drive, so it shouldn't need much changing in the first place...
And its just like all the other makes:
certain BMWs, porsche and them high powered audi shoe boxes, have it in the back as well, because of weight distribution -iirc.

The Alfa is a great car. Real surprise when I ran against one down the runway at VMAX200 here in the UK.
Alfa's depretiation is one of her best traits, at least for a bloke like me who's always driven an Alfa but was never in the financial bracket that can afford a 50-70 000 euro car... That is why I started with a 5 yo Alfa Romeo 156 1.8... Than came the beautiful Alfa 159, also a 5 yo car but this time with a 2.4. litre diesel engine firing out 200 Hp.. Now I'm waiting for the age of the Giulia with a 2.2. liter 280 HP engine, to align with my financial preferences and capability and voila - the baby's mine... Unfortunately this Giulia QV is and will remain out of my reach, at least until I hit that Jackpot.
M4 CS for me please
Great review, and I wholeheartedly agree with the conclusion - apart from adding that in 10 years, I’d wager the Alfa, being the true classic of the two, would be worth more.
Love the end of the video
Hey man, I like the video. Good review. For that outtro, you should have stayed in the middle and used the remote start for the Giulia. Would have been epic.
Our local vehicles are not specced with that option. [Chad]
Ahh did not know that, thanks for the info. Thought it was the same key fob for every model.
Love both as sports cars, but Alfa is more attractive in every way.
it doesnt have a transaxle
Unfortunately at the time of filming, the information we received stated that it was - we have since found it to be erroneous. Our apologies. [Chad}
The Alfa will seem more exquisite and expensive to the normal eye
Until you get inside or near it.

@ thefridgeman Right, because the BMW is supposed to have a better interior or quality control then the Giulia now? Not at all.

I agree, the Alfa is definitely cool and those who do one day comparison often prefer the novelty of it. But when it comes down to "laying out money", reliability, dealership accessibility and resale; I have my doubts they would actually chose the Alfa. I was there a couple months back and without hesitation chose the BMW M3CP, no regrets.
People who think BMW is reliable they never owned one, they are just fans. And those who thinks Alfa is unreliable, they have never owned one, they are just like religious people who believe which ever god out of the 3000 gods.
You better digest it that this is a super car under civil clothes. Do your homework better and understand the innovation of that car have send its rivals to reconsider what a SPORT car should be like in our days. The competition is only about I am Mercedes I am bmw you have to choose me . Look why is 90 degrees the V engine, why the front spoilel is active, why the suspension is so sophisticated compeare to the others they use just a better version of the basic model .Maybe you too will discover the ALFA way of how is to present a BRAND NEW CAR as they have.
Good commercial Alfa Romeo, bravo!
people who have Alfa should not sell this car, it is a future classic !
Future shit. Are you serious ?
@@henzo7087 you're describing yourself, clearly

Are we sure that the Alfa has a Transaxle? An Alfisti with a Giulia Ti Sport AWD and a 4c Spider and from what i have Seen, the last Alfa with a transaxle was the 75 (Milano). The AWD do have Q4 system but the Quadrifoglio is RWD only. I think the transmission is behind the engine. My first Alfa was a 75 (Milano) and the transaxle necessitated a huge bulge under the back seat for the It.
Alfista* (singular)
I would chose the M4CS. I think its a beautiful car and i like the engine and gearbox it uses. I like the driving dynamics. BMW built its reputation on total performance and the excellence of a great driving experience. You get more with a BMW and the more you get the more you wanna push it. Racing has always been at the core of BMW's history. Its probably the only company that still uses an inline 6 engine. Any pure racecar driver would give up a V6 to get behind the wheel of a car with the pedigree straight 6. BMW for me thanks
Things change with time and competition. The Alfa is definitely a more enjoyable driving experience today than the BMW. It does exactly what you described -- makes you want to push it, makes you savor every turn. The feel and responsiveness of the steering is just superior to the 3 series right now. The whole feel of the car. Hope you get to drive it sometime.
not anymore . Merc are back doing inline 6 engines such as the one on the cls53
runway alpha always, m3 no. his nemesis m4 gts difference of this alphabet
The press & internet have been able to change the name of this car, "Giulia QV " - born "Giulia Quadrifoglio", hence "Q" (cloverleaf) - "QV" stands for "Quadrifoglio Verde" (Green Cloverleaf) which has been used in the past to identify sporty versions of other alfas, like the Giulietta. Just stuns me like most qualified & competent car testers redact complete reviews and not even call the car by the correct model name.
One note on the launch control, the Giulia Q is known to accomplish easily the 0-60 time in the declared time, that BMW fails to achieve (in real world conditions) even with lauch control. Have you run some tests?
love both but my choice is giulia qv!
Good video 🍀
But I’m sorry the Giulia does have its gearbox placed just begind the engine, in the FRONT; it ain’t no transaxle like they used to build back in the days.
Cheers 🏎🍀
I wouldn't take either for the money. the cs simply isn't worth anything close to it's asking price
the Alfa is lovely but if get sick of the reliability issues after a couple of years .
Exactly
The only way bmw can make a better car is to ask alfa romeo to build it for them
So....did you get home in that Alfa or did it break down on the way there?
I knew before I hit play the reviewer would pick the QV and it is a nice car, just wish we could get an unbiased review! It’s easy to pick the QV when you don’t have to be concerned with reliability. BMW M4 Comp Pkg is where my money went!
Rick
R P B 7 agree but i will always pick a bmw because I’m a bmw fanboy. But i feel like alfa Romeo is definitely better.
alfa is better dude, you know its true. now lay down and cry in your bmw
I'm a fan of BMW as well, but it's almost unbelievable how good the Alfa drives for the money. I just hope you get to drive it someday if you haven't already.
Alok Somani I haven’t but Id love too!
Rick
The heart of the car is the engine, the new quadrifoglio has the same ferrari engine, I trust ferrari more in terms of making exeptional engines as they have more experience in the big league of making supercars and hypercars. So bmw is really nice, but sorry Ferrari is a wet dream coming true.
It's not a QV it's a Q only
The Alfa is all fun and games and best car until it comes to selling it... then best of luck to you.
I love that M4, it´s amazing car, but I preferrer that Alfa Giulia QV.
I just wish the guy gave the cars a bit more welly. Chris Harris leads the way for describing whilst pedalling cars along at a proper pace!

Are you familiar with Italian cars?
Shift4g I am! I’ve owned 5 Alfa’s. However, I’ve also owned more than a dozen BMWs and while my Alfa’s were admittedly put together with wood glue and indifference, my BMWs have never been anything anyone could begin to call reliable!!
@@gregorythomas4470 yeah I've owned 20 Alfas and 20 BMWs etc etc just check the actual warranty claims data. Facts prove the Alfa is not reliable. Sorry mate. As well as every car review where they break down. Lovely cars but enough of the bull, you're just lying to yourself.
Simon Cook Uh, it’s hard to place any stock in your data when u make it painfully clear you struggle with reading comprehension. I’m not lying to myself or anyone. I clearly stated my Alfa’s were poorly built. My point was simply that my BMWs were as well.
What’s more unreliable than an Alpha Romeo??
The Alfa sounds awesome 😎
Great ending
ALFA QV = Pavarotti, BMW M4 CD = Axl Rose.
M3!!!!!!!!
It’s funny how every review of the alpha is compared to Bmw! Because everyone knows M car is at the top of the heap. It reminds me of how every new pistol is going to be a glock killer and yet glock remains at the top just like the M car will. The alpha is a nice car don’t get wrong but first and foremost they’ll have to fix the reliability issues and then work on the interior and it might start to be a contender.
Happy owner of the car at the top every other car in it’s class is compared too.
Rick
Every single expert review is noting that BMW has no better interior anymore. Other then that, Giulia is placed at the top in every comparison test and a clear winner over BMW. But still some people state that BMW it's still the best in its class. As a reminder, below is a list of all the awards the Giulia achieved so far. (BTW it is ALFA not Alpha).

Carlo that’s a great reply but none of those awards address the reliability issues the car has had.
The Quadrifoglio model especially had software issues on early production models. These have been addressed by software updates released over the last year. Since then, newer model have proved to be reliable. However, Alfa Romeo is not the choice for people looking for just a reliable vehicle to go from A to B. It's all about the driving experience, the style, the performance, the handling and the brand racing history. However, the reliability has been improved a lot in recent years. And BMW as well has a similar story, it's not been known for being the most reliable make... I owned a 3 series and I enjoyed it a lot, even with its engine turbo failure. For reliability, there are the boring Toyota and Lexus and other Japanese makes, and even those could not be trouble-free if you get that vehicle with production glitches... ;)
Carlo do you own an alpha quad? I do love the engine and suspension I’m not trying to talk the car down but I also believe you can have both a drivers car and reliability. I’m on my 2nd M car and my 8th BMW and all have been a joy to drive with excellent reliability and their service plan along with their warranty are the best in the industry. I do hope Alpha continues to improve but my money is where my mouth is and that’s BMW. Side note I wouldn’t mind a Porsche or C63s either I just don’t have the confidence in Alpha yet.
Rick
@@theprepperrevelator I understand your situation, I am glad that you enjoyed your models for many years! I am currently leasing the Giulia. It has been reliable, no issue so far (10K miles). The Alfa was their first attempt back into this market, so they definitely did not cheap out. Aluminum everywhere, carbon fiber, etc. I wouldn't get it over a M3 competition, but I'd certainly get it over a M4 CS. Yes, I'm saying the M4CS is a worst car than the M3 comp.

Not all the interior components are supplied/fitted by Faurecia with BMW making use of their seating solutions, and primarily for MINI and 2 Series vehicles. Binnacle housings and panel surrounds in the Alfa Romeo are the largest culprits. [Chad]
