Imagine being on holiday and these come along and sing you a song. I would seriously sleep easier tonight knowing that at least one of those people sitting outside that bar in Paris knew exactly what they were witnessing. I know I sound jealous. lol
@clstile and after i did some homework, i found out this song, was originally done by a band called "love" in 1967, and was also covered by "the damned". it would have been great to hear the shins do the whole thing, its a great song.
Very very nice touch by on of my favourite bands! Why haven't bands done this before? While I think that 'Gone For Good' is one of my best songs, the second song 'Turn on me' was superb. I've watched this 3 simes straight now I'm well looking forward to part two. You've got to love The Melodic Shins! LaBlogotheque tyvm for posting this! ;)
Thanks, but I meant before that. It's a song playing in the background as they are walking down stairs and one of the guitarists is playing with it. I appreciate your response though.
im pretty sure the song they play at 0:44 when they are walking is a "calexico" song called "alone again". very good song, these guys not only play great music, but they obviously have great taste too :)
@clstile 100% correct. you hit the nail on the head! LOVE & Bryan MacLean wrote "Alone Again" in 1967, released it with a Mariachi Band, strings, and bright trumpet on the arrangement in 1968 to become a smash hit - - only after Love broke up as a band. that song is a legit "classic". Nice work for a band who gets so little fanfare. They were amazing. Buy the album "FOREVER CHANGES". Enjoy it fully & completely!
It sounds like the Eels at the very beginning, Then when they are walking down the steet it is Calexico's "Alone Again Or (With Nicolai Dunger and His Band)
calexico covered that song. it's from love's 1967 release, forever changes. if you like calexico you might check them out. specificly the forever changes album. some of their other stuff tends to be like a bad version of jimi hendrix.
My only complaint which isn't really a complaint, more a suggestion i'd say, is that the vocals kind of get lost in the guitar. otherwise flawless and one of my favorites from The Shins
@coolidgejosiah ya Its so funny watching the take away shows and seeing all the random folks who have no clue who is playing in front of them and how amazing they are.. they probably just think most of them are just normal street acts or weird americans/brits/frenchies/etc...
oh shit, i thought it was an original by The Damned. That's where i first heard it, back in the 80's. a fucking amazing song though, and right up the shins alley if they choose to do it for realz. i hope they do someday! thanks for the heads-up.
@skylineiiigtr I enjoy calling them the spoons, only people who actually listen to them call them spoon. The only thing that disappoints me are the bassists that don't bust out with an upright doing acoustic stuff like that. more people should know who spoon is though, it sucks bringing them up and realizing the hives are more well-known than they are. hives are awesome but the point is they know them for "get free" and nothing else. *ack :-P
This video brings up some serious nostalgia for me.
Love the "Alone Again Or" jamming in the beginning.
"gone for good" gets even more stunning when it's acoustic!
I'm in Wales UK and this band is something to look up to!
Long live the Shins!
Wow 15 years ago. Fuck me this was when music was blowing my mind.
Imagine being on holiday and these come along and sing you a song. I would seriously sleep easier tonight knowing that at least one of those people sitting outside that bar in Paris knew exactly what they were witnessing.
I know I sound jealous. lol
I LOVE you James Mercer. And all of you. This feels me with joy.
Gotta like it, gotta love it!
Vive la blogotheque, vive le Shins!!!
i love the shins sooo much and i also love that the camera man has mastered the art of "fuck off out my way"
The song you are looking for is "Everything Hits At Once" by a great band called Spoon.
Paris and the Shins....tres magnifique!
LOVE!!! the first song they play in the background!!
The Mexican styled intro to Gone for Good - that ended on C - I loved that !!
"Alone Again Or" is a song originally recorded in 1967 by Love, the psychedelic folk-rock proto-punk band from Los Angeles, USA.
I think many of these people have no idea who these guys are, and know even less what a gift from God they received that day!!
Eleven fricking years
Starts from the eyes-hurting scenes to be the Fever
this is totally amazing....I love Gone for Good, this might be my favorite version
classic song by the damned as well at the intro.
i loved that song growing up. these guys are near my age, though, so it makes sense.

I know mate! I love this band.
In the beginning, you hear a REALLY good single by the Spoons. Everything hits at Once is the name of the that song you hear as they're walking up.
These videos are fantastic and moving..coming to the Boulevards of Tel Aviv anytime soon?
calexico covered that song. it's from love's 1967 release, forever changes. if you like calexico you might check them out. specificly the forever changes album. some of their other stuff tends to be like a bad version of jimi hendrix.

First Beirut, now this, alright you've convinced me and I'm moving to Paris.
That looks like way to much fun... I want to do that.
you couldn't put it in a better way!

I feel like the algorithm hasn't spotted this one yet. Future folks, enjoy!
There's a fatal flaw, in the logic of love
This is the definition of music.

Two of my favorites! Ahh, hurry up Advertisement!

i would move to paris just to have the chance to be a bystander in a blogotheque take away show!!
And its live... so much better.
these people are so lucky!!!!
The dude sitting inside the cafe is like wtf! hahaha so awesome

i love spoon playing in the background at the very beginning
it sounds like they're jamming some rendition of love's andmoreagain at the begining. is that right?
hmm... i never really got into spoon. what album is a good place to start?
I've never seen three guitars used this well.
@jackkoon Isn't "Get Free" a song by the Vines?
sweet, thanks
Are they playing Alone Again Or by The Damned??
Hey can anyone tell me what spoon song is at the very beginning like when they're walking down the stairs
were they playing Spoon - "Everything Hits at Once" in the beginning?
Calexico also do Alone Again Or.
OK. thanks FOR your HELP.
The only thing I love more than Paris is the Shins.
WHY WASN'T I THERE??????????
I think if I was walking through Montmarte and I saw this, I would pee my pants, then ignore my piss-pants and just sit in the grass listening in awe.
Loool. Win Butler from Arcade Fire at 7:43
Anyone know the name of the song they play at the very beginning (starts at 0:45). I should know this...
Anyone know what chords their playing at the beginning of good for gone?
what is the first song thats playing in the background in the very beginning where they are walking down a flight of stairs
@clstile calexico? listen to love - alone again or
My only complaint which isn't really a complaint, more a suggestion i'd say, is that the vocals kind of get lost in the guitar. otherwise flawless and one of my favorites from The Shins
Excellent comment, man, just friggin excellent
who is the guy in the bandana?
@coolidgejosiah ya Its so funny watching the take away shows and seeing all the random folks who have no clue who is playing in front of them and how amazing they are.. they probably just think most of them are just normal street acts or weird americans/brits/frenchies/etc...
This song blew my "SHINS". Har har.
...WHY THE HELL DOES THIS HAS ONLY 169,247 VIEWS?!?!?!
So is it just me, or did I hear backmasking in the beginning?
Amen
Exactly.
Calexico?
Eric Johnson of the Fruit Bats, another band on Sub Pop...
@chanbara3 yeah i did, its a good song
oh shit, i thought it was an original by The Damned. That's where i first heard it, back in the 80's.
a fucking amazing song though, and right up the shins alley if they choose to do it for realz. i hope they do someday!

@aha45 remind me to never sit next to you if we ever happen to attend the same concert
Love the lyric change from floating to fucking
I wonder if any of those people are Shins fans who just happened to happen upon this wonderful makeshift gig, haha.
good as but why four guitars. too full/heavy/loud for only one voice.
dude hell yea me too haha
4 guitars.. i can't play guitar.. but.. fuck.. wow!!
"how much money did we make"
they funny :D lol
Because they have a smaller fan base there, and it's more fun to do there because they won't get mobbed by people. The anonymity is part of the draw.
Is that Kevin Spacey?
Calexico-Alone and again
Alone again or! :) They're cool.
