Cant believe this video is still up, I remember watching this in 2012 when I was in middle school, it's one of the first songs that made me want to play guitar. I remember my dad has an epiphone that looked really similar to the one he's using. To this day I still play guitar!
Andrew Bird is amazing...saw him open for wilco a couple weeks ago..really moving stuff. The man has perfect pitch most definetely and he whistles like no other.
What I love about this video is the fact that Andrew Bird just walks through Montmartre with a natural ease, as if he is part of the 18th Arrondissement. People don't see to notice him, and those who do, look at him like there are seeing a ghost. Yes, in my opinion that is the beauty of this video.
still my favorite la blogotheque video, before i knew what liking youtube videos was. commenting now because (pseudo) I've grasped what "youtube" algorithm is/ just subed
I discovered him thru Ani Difranco and then saw him live at her last concert in Paris (Trabendo 2005)! The way he whistles here is how he loves to play violin as well, with his fluorescent arch! lol He's great! And great video as well! J'ai découvert la Blogothèque la semaine dernière et qq chose me dit que j'y trouverai des vidéos de qualité! Grand merci! Cheers!
Love this video and the whole la blogotheque project. Andrew Bird is great. Yes I would follow him and clap and gawk if I saw him walking around my town but not everybody knows this guy. There are plenty of talented street performers out there who aren't given the time of day and here Andrew Bird is no different. I think that kind of atmosphere, the one with no screaming fans, is what la blogo is going for.
I have to admit that I would flip out to be walking down the street and seeing Andrew Bird playing... Especially if it is on my top tracks list for him :)
that's some strong whistling power there! I liked how the people clapped at the end. So far, I hadn't seen a Take Away Show where that has happen, the closest thing were the dancing kids in Menomena's Wet and Rusting.
Gah... he's so amazing... this makes me want to laugh, cry, vomit and poop my pants all at once. My skin is crawling like mad. Thank God for Andrew Bird! You rock, mister!
It took me a few times to catch that part, but I did this time. Cute! Speaking of birds, my cat heard the third and final whistle hook in the song and turned his head to see if there was a bird nearby.
1.02 - Whipped out my violin and busked outside that very cafe, on the left, a few years ago...Only, unlike mr Bird, I got chased away by policemen with pepper spray :( I heart Andrew Bird, he is my hero, and this is a great video of him!
C'mon folks! This wasn't an MTV video recording! Andrew Bird does his art in life, not all cleaned up; refined and integrated. The honk was just life; "who the hell are you in my way?!" And like the consummate artist that he is, Andrew Bird took it in stride. Akin to Miles Davis just integrating what is happening now in a jam session_ reality is inspiration! Take it easy on yourself here.
That part of Paris is very picturesque...it's up on a hill overlooking the city from the north capped by the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (English translation)...the rest of the city is also great, featuring some great views and architecture, but that part is the most distinct of all of tit's districts
Have you ever noticed whistle stealers are everywhere? If you whistle in any crowd at any time, someone else will compulsively start whistling. Thing is tho- where you may be whistling a song or tune, they will whistle pure atonal gibberish, just to be whistling, thereby stealing and ruining your whistle. Here's the rub. If you stop... they too will stop. If you start again... they too will start again. It's a real thing. I'm not making this up. I whistle often and when people start whistle stealing I call their lame asses out.
cheers AB is refreshing in a stagnate music scene...he rocked letterman tonight, check it out if you didnt see it....tomorrow cant come fast enough...im seeing him perform in nyc.. noble beast is a beast....
@superfly1191 i wanted to know the same thing and after an exhausting amount of reasearch (not really ;)) i found out its a song by Charlie Patton and it's called I'm goin' home. unfortunatly it doesnt exsist in a studio version by bird. and the original is very grainy considering its from the early 1900's

Quite possibly still one of the top 10 channels this platform has ever produced
i have seriously listened to this so many times, i can tell exactly when the car horn goes off.
this opened me to the great world of andrew bird back in 2007 and I am still amazed by his talent
in 2020😃
Greatest whistler of all time? I'd like to think so.
I agree
Welll.... its between him and LP for sure 😏
My grandfather was so much better but hes good, and known
Andrew Bird is amazing...saw him open for wilco a couple weeks ago..really moving stuff. The man has perfect pitch most definetely and he whistles like no other.
I love it when the elderly man starts to whistle after he passes Andrew. He's so amazing. Great video!
the clarity of the vibrato with the high pitch at 3:00 is insane. what I would do to be able to whistle like him.
So beautiful, and a great whistler as well. That he makes the birds whistle as well in the end.
It´s very nice see the landscape of Paris when Andrew is singing around this beautiful place, greetings from Perú.
This will forever send chills down my spine.

these take away shows are like one of the best things on youtube
still my favorite la blogotheque video, before i knew what liking youtube videos was.

I love the simplicity of the video, and how it allows you to focus on the emotion of the music
One of the best videos on UA-cam. Thank you Ryne J. from AZ for showing me this back in the day!
Certainly the best whistler I've ever heard. Hard to find artists that have such unique talents
totally love this song it srsly sounds like a beautiful little bird singing it and at the end how the birds joined in sooo good!
Just lovely. I have just discovered the Take Away shows, and they are tres magnifique. A worthy endeavor.

Such a talent. Blessed to see him around 15 years ago
wow. i just fell in love with this guy's music all over again.
I love how at 3:45 he smiles at the camera man for walking backwards into a car.
I'm flying to Paris today and I can't wait to record myself walking this route.
Saw him in concert this week - one of the best experiences of my life.
Andrew Bird, you're awesome! Hope to hear more songs from you.
I just love Bird's music!! Please come to Portugal for a concert! :D

Raw and amazing!
This is so incredible.
that's some strong whistling power there!
I liked how the people clapped at the end. So far, I hadn't seen a Take Away Show where that has happen, the closest thing were the dancing kids in Menomena's Wet and Rusting.
beautiful!
so awesome
this was absolutely amazing. i hope that song at the end is something he actually recorded previously.
I always feel substantially more philisophical when I'm listening to Bird, and I can't for the life of me tell if Im just biased
this is one of the reasons why I love Andrew Bird.
anytime you wake up in the morning and think "I'm Cool", you need to watch this and get a sense of perspective
I think you are cool alan
when i was in paris, i walked this exact same route while singing this song in my head. it was awesome.
can't wait to see bird again...oh so soon!
Gah... he's so amazing... this makes me want to laugh, cry, vomit and poop my pants all at once. My skin is crawling like mad. Thank God for Andrew Bird! You rock, mister!
What a beautiful whistle- he truly lives up to his surname ;)
i agree sweet version but the girl brings it to a delightful level on the album...
cant wait to see him live this month..nyc..cheers
It took me a few times to catch that part, but I did this time. Cute!
Speaking of birds, my cat heard the third and final whistle hook in the song and turned his head to see if there was a bird nearby.
This, my friends, is true music and the way such truth is meant to be shared.
I like the birds cheering at the end!
I used to have the biggest crush on Andrew Bird back in 2007.
Actually......uh, yeah. Still the same in 2020.
i love this.
I wish I could've seen him there. Oh my god I love this video. Nuff said. Just died a little inside.
Sweet and beautiful!
1.02 - Whipped out my violin and busked outside that very cafe, on the left, a few years ago...Only, unlike mr Bird, I got chased away by policemen with pepper spray :(
I heart Andrew Bird, he is my hero, and this is a great video of him!

best whistler of all time, this guy right here

Most talent in music.
J'adore vous!
most talented man alive, pretty much.
1st comment in over a year? I feel like I'm in a ghost town of indie music.
@Jessica O'Brien This town ain't big enough for the both of us
@Lp104 must follow...cant resist awesomeness..
I love the guy whistling at 1:40! haha

So talented in every way that i wish i was.
YES YES SO GOOD!!!!
pure magic.
If no one clapped in the end I would have been super pissed lol. I could die happy if I make it to one of his shows.
Beautiful
haha I love how the actual birds almost come in on cue at the end of the song
la seule chanson ou je frissonne, je l'aime cette chanson, andrew egalement
new goal in life: be able to whistle like that. Holy jesus that just blew my miiiind.
I feel like Lassie should come jumping through the bushes somewhere. Love this :)
brilliant.
@TheRintintin112 it's "i'm goin' home." originally a charlie patton song.
oh, his whistling is so beautiful
god i love this song.
if you listen carefully when he finishes at 5:18 you'll hear some songbirds continuing his song. it's beautiful.
What is he playing before he starts Spare-Ohs? It's beautiful!
Why doesn't anyone know who he is??
That's so frustrating! I love Andrew!
xoxoxo what a gem!
This is really wonderful,
Are you guys going to shoot any more live Andrew Bird songs in the future?
andrew bird is my idol
does anyone know the first and last songs in the video, by the way?
