I got this set a few days ago and I'm very excited for it. I suffer from dry oily skin and have bigger pores around my nose which is where I get oily (and cakey when wearing makeup) the most. I so hope this set will help.
But I am hesitant to use the cleanser every day, as I believe washing your face (and skin in general) everyday can be quite damaging for the skin:/

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 роки тому +3

Hello 🙃 Hm, generally, it's not. If you use a gentle cleanser such as The Ordinary cleanser; it's not an issue. It mainly becomes one when using harsh cleansers that are drying or irritating on the skin.
I recommend adding Niacinamide for your bigger pores. You can use it after Hyaluronic Acid but before your moisturizer.

You're skin looks amazing and radiant. I have a concern about my routine.
To start things off I'm a male, I purchased The Ordinary Niacinamide, Lactid Acid 10% Salicylic Acid 2% Masque and the AHA 30% Peel.
I don't really know in what order to apply the products mentioned. My cleanser is Cetaphil. I have yet to use my products, out of the fear to burn my face, and watching your videos have given me an idea as to not use all those acids on the same day.
YOU would be a LIFE SAVER if you gave me a reference. I think I may have gotten too many acids which is why I'm avoiding them I have combination skin. But suffer from acne at the moment.

      Hey😊
      Thank you!
Well, you could use it like this:
      AM Routine Daily:
      - Cleanse
      - Niacinamide
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      - SPF
      PM Routine:
      - Cleanse
      - Lactic Acid
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
I recommend using Lactic Acid 1-3 times per week in the beginning before using it more often. Also, please do not use Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid Mask and the Peeling Solution in the same routine.
      PM Routine (for example Monday):
      - Cleanse
      - Peeling Solution
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
      PM Routine (for example Thursday):
      - Cleanse
      - Salicylic Acid Mask
      - (Optional) Moisturiser
If you are suffering from acne, I recommend looking for acne treatments...such as a benzoyl peroxide face wash or cream or look for tea tree oil or a Retinol cream (start with a low %).
Also, don't forget to do a patch-test on your upper forearm before using it on your face!
      Niacinamide:
      ua-cam.com/video/lMtaffTLK3I/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/gVZJlWLKTDM/v-deo.html
      Salicylic Acid Mask:
      ua-cam.com/video/Sv-f4tJApNw/v-deo.html
      Peeling Solution:
      ua-cam.com/video/wSY0pYcy8KY/v-deo.html
I recommend using Niacinamide once per day as it may be too much for the skin when using it 2x times per day. But Niacinamide could be used after Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid and the peeling solution as well!

Yes, for random big pimples, use a Benzoyl Peroxide Spot treatment. And for Blackheads, you can use the new Ordinary 2% Salicylic Acid solution. However, if the blackheads are very deep into the skin, you need to extract them mechanically with a tool or visit an aesthetician that can help you do that.

Hi, very informative video. Thanks, I have a question. I just bought this set and I want to start using gradually, my skin is acne prone and sometimes I rush, sometimes not. So, when I do have it I use benzoyl peroxide wash gell at night three or four times in a week, depends how much I have. I am just wondering how can I use this set with benzoyl in case of rush? I was thinking just using it at night and in the morning the set routine. What is your experience?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 роки тому

      Hey! :)
In this Set, you can use The Ordinary products daily in the AM and/or PM. The Ordinary Cleanser is great because it can also remove sunscreen and makeup, making it a great evening cleanser. However, you can use the Ordinary cleanser first in the evening to remove sunscreen and makeup (if you wear it) and then use your Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser after it. That's fine. You then can also continue with the rest of your routine (of this Set).

    • @mariamochkhikidze8926
      @mariamochkhikidze8926 2 роки тому +1

Thanks for your response, I noticed that after I use Acid which is in the set I feel like a burning sensation on my skin or like a sting, it continues for 5 minutes and then disappears, I could not find much information about that. One of them was that skin might be too dry. Which could be the reason, since my skin is dry, naturally very oily but I was not using proper products so its dry . I am thinking if I should continue using this product or not, did anyone has this type of experience and what did u do ?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 роки тому

@@mariamochkhikidze8926 Does it still happen when adding a few drops of your Hyaluronic Acid serum to your moisturiser instead of using the serum on its own? Or what about including a hydrating toner to you routine? For example from Paula's Choice or COSRX, as the Ordinary does not have a hydrating toner, they only have an exfoliating acid toner.

Yes, you can use the peeling solution with the set.
Cleanser (wash off and wait 5 minutes for skin to dry)
Apply Peeling Solution (max 10minutes on the skin and rinse with water only)
      Hyaluronic Acid
      Moisturizer
And it's best to use it in the PM. And peeling solution should only be used once or twice a week. However, I feel that twice a week is a bit too much, and I, for example, only use it once or twice a month; however it depends on your skin and other factors, which are very individual, so test it, but do not overdo it.

I don't think you need to invest in Estee Lauder ANR serum; the main reason is that the Ordinary products are working just as well. At least from my experience.
There are multiple options you can great two routines, and I think this will work best since you are using so many products.
      PM1 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday):
      Cleanser
      Glycolic Acid toner
      Granactive Retinoids in Emulsion
That's the example routine which the Ordinary recommends ;)
      PM (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday)
      Cleanser
      Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
      Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
      Moisturizer
      Belief Sleeping Mask
This way, you are making sure that you aren't overusing the toner, and you can adjust your skin to the retinoids. Of course, you can customize it.
In case you want to, I recommend watching this video:

What Ordinary products do you use?
It's always best to protect the skin during the day when being in the sun. Especially if you are using Exfoliating Acids or Retinol/Retinoid, as they can make the skin more sensitive to the sun.
You can use makeup on top of your skincare products, that's fine.

I suggest taking a break from using the products for at least a couple of days, and then continue using it. If the reaction happens again, you can try using the products on and off, giving your skin more time to adjust. It's possible that the initial reaction may improve over time, especially if you are new to these products or have never used them before. However, if the reaction persists or worsens, it would be best to discontinue use altogether.

      Hello mishmi,
From my experience, it is because the % of Niacinamide is too high or you are sensitive to the ingredient itself. But since Niacinamide is often in moisturizers, I doubt that it is the second one. So what you can do is dilute one drop with the moisturizer and see if it still occurs.
Also, it seems that you have dryer skin, so the Ordinary moisturizer may not be rich enough for you. Because Niacinamide regulates oil, you become less oily, and if you already have dry skin, it can make it worse.

Hm, I am not 100% sure if the products you have can help you treat your acne. However, you can try it and see if it works; if not, add an acne treatment!
I try to give you the information you need to build your routine, and if you still have more questions, I am happy to help you.
      You have:
      THE ORDINARY
      Aha 30% + BHA 2%. (Mask)
      Niacinamide (Water-Based Serum)
      Alpha Arbutin (Water-Based Serum)

      2% Salicylic Acid (Water-Based Serum)
      Order of application =
      Cleanser
Toner (you do not have one)
      Exfoliant (Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid)
      Serums (1. Water-Based, 2. Anhydrous Solutions & Oils)
      Moisturizer & Suspensions
You should not use more than one exfoliant in the same routine, and you should use them preferred in the PM. Also, I recommend using it only once per day.
When using an exfoliant for the first time, use it every other day in the beginning and see how your skin responds to it. If everything is fine and feels good, it can be applied daily.
It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration.
About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck.
Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing."
Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!!
Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: ua-cam.com/video/r04W7rQV1R0/v-deo.html)
"Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: ua-cam.com/video/l_C7HtO826A/v-deo.html)

      Hey!
How do you use the cleanser? Do you properly wash it off?
Depending on your pores, there isn't much that you can do because you can not actually close them!
However, if you have textured skin and/or enlarged pores because you may have oily skin or congested skin, I recommend looking into an exfoliant and/or Niacinamide.
This routine won't do much for enlarged pores.
      What's your skin type?

i am taking a break from using the hyaluronic acid for the ordinary or any other brands. i used to use it twice a day AM and PM coz i thought my face needs all the hydration. after months of doing this i researched why my skin is looking more parched than hydrated. i found a lot of info on youtube that says this happens if you over use hyaluronic acids. also, a lot of my other products like toners, essence and serums also includes hyaluronic acid properties in it so i might be over doing it having a straight HA serum.
    what’s your thoughts about it?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  3 роки тому +2

Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar, and it may be drying when used in its pure form. But the serums nowadays do not include Hyaluronic Acid. They have a Hyaluronic Acid derivative called Sodium hyaluronate; this can penetrate deeper into the skin and does not give you the same effects as Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid can suck out the moisture from the deeper layers, and if you live in a dry climate, it may cause dehydration since the moisture isn't pulled out of the air but instead of your skin. So this may cause issues when you use brands that include Hyaluronic Acid.
However, this is not the case with most brands since they do not include that ingredient. If you have dry skin and use this ingredient and not use a moisturizer on top, your skin will look even dryer because it cannot seal in the moisture. If you have oily skin, the sebum does that job, and you need an extra moisturizer since the skin only lacks hydration.
Most people just use the wrong ingredients, and that it is essential to look at the skin. But this does not have anything to do with Hyaluronic Acid, and it is just that people use it in the wrong way. Or they use too many acids in a row that can dry the skin, especially when it is not needed. So it's best to find the right balance, which is very difficult, I have to admit.
Most people use too much, even the "doctors" if they are real doctors, I highly doubt it. 😞
And what serums do you have that include Hyaluronic Acid? (If they include the "real" Hyaluronic Acid, it is mostly way down the list and hardly consists of any at all, but this can give you a nice plumping effect; Hyaluronic Acid is mostly just cosmetic to look better when you go out :)

@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial great point. i have combo skin and mostly oily on T zone and dry on other parts of my face. i love using HA but was just experimenting taking a pause to it. i know it’s different when some other products have other hydrating factors to it like glycerin etc. i also use alpha arbutin from TO regularly for my acne marks and hyperpigmentation with i believe include HA in it. i use a lot of TO moisturizer as well and the paula’s choice calming toner that i believe has some hydrating factors. this week i am introducing HA’s once a day every other day to my skin again but using the Paulas choice instead of the ordinary. as u know, i’ve accumulated so much products in my routine and had to cut something out and decided to choose HA coz i want to keep my niacinamide (which i also cut once a day from being twice a day) and alpha arbutin consistently. so basically from 3 down to 2 serums. another thing that i constantly use is retinol every 2-3 days and vitamin C every morning. so anyways, why i want to cut my steps it’s usually the HA that gets the cut to lessen the products that i use. also the toners and essences.
i sound confusing but you get the point lol

@@ChaChaDiaries Did you get the Paula's Choice Hyaluronic Acid?
Yeah, you're right! Most hydrating products include more than just Hyaluronic Acid! Which is great so that you can personalise your skincare routine and see what works and feels the best for your skin! Sometimes, when I'm using a hydrating toner + serum, I do not always feel the need to add a moisturiser afterward, but this depends on the products and how my skin feels after the application which changes over time.
I do like to try out different combinations as well so I do understand why you're changing the routine, maybe you'll find a way which fits your skin the best 😊

@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial I really like the PC Hyalurnic acid. I think it is less stickier than the one from the Ordinary. I try to spray my face with a bit of water before using any HA's just to get that good hydration locked in.
Yeah, I mostly use the Cerave Hydrating cleanser that has HA or the Paula's choice Gentle cleanser that I believe has the hydrating ingredients in it as well. I learned that from you to look at the ingredients to see if what's in it and see what to mix in my routine so I felt like a lot of my products has HA already so i can sometimes skip using a Hyaluronic acid serum depending on what my skin tells me.
I think i am finding a good routine for me now as I have shared on my other comments on your videos. But most importantly, I listen to my skin on what it needs so I might switch it up on that day. I am from Washington so we dont get much sun this season, so I am pretty sure my skin will change again coming from summer to the rainy fall season. haha.

@@ChaChaDiaries I didn't know that you bought the Paula's Choice Hyaluronic Acid! I love that one a lot, and with that one, I don't need a moisturiser that's like my "last" step, and that's it!
Paula's Choice has great products! And their red cleanser is one that I've tried and love as well! Which one do you use?
From Cerave, I do like the hydrating cream to foam cleanser, but the other ones are alright but not the ones that I reach for often...but that's personal preference😊
I'm happy to hear that I could help you to pay attention to the ingredients list! You don't have to know each ingredient but it can help a lot to understand the product and just as you said, find out if it fits into your routine or not!
Listening to your skin is what's most important!🥰

As demonstrated in the video, pat off any excess water from the skin's surface before applying your skincare products to the skin. Also, make sure to let each product absorb into the skin before moving on to the next step.
