*GLYCOLIC TONER PSA!* when I did an updated video discussing what products to use in the a.m. and p.m., I did realize that the ordinary specifically states that once a day use (pm) is recommended for the glycolic acid toner. Just the way some drs prescribe retinoic acid for wrinkles etc., many products are often used off label. At the end of the day, it’s up to each person‘s skin and patch testing to determine what is safe and what is not. Having a long-standing history with acne scars, I find that my face can easily tolerate it twice daily - I’ve never felt a burn from the AHA BHA masque/peel either - that being said, for someone who is trying glycolic acid for the very first time, they may not be able to tolerate even one use. I really appreciate everyone bringing this up, and to my attention! If you are looking to tone in both the morning and the evening, it’s still something that I enjoy. I hope this helps and I hope you’re having a great day!
I need help/advice from You. Which product would you choose for scars: The Buffet, Lactic acid 10% or Organic cold-pressed rose hip seed oil? In my shopping bag I have all other products that You named in this video, but I can not decide which from these 3 products to choose.
Pre cleanser Micellar gel cleanser Squalane cleanser Niacinamide 10% Cold Rosehip oil Plant derived squalane And centella sunscreen Are these okay to use together it was recommended for my combination skin ? :)and do I really need another moisturizer
Thanks for clearing this up! I am following one of the regimens recommended by The Ordinary (textural irregularities). They recommend the use of the toner AND the Granactive Retinoid 2% or 5% in Squalane for PM (theordinary.deciem.com/regimenguide). My question is: is there a fundamental difference between this granactive retinoid and the one you mention in this video ? I ask because you recommend using either the toner OR the retinoid, but not both products together. I've been following this regimen for about a year now and have definitely seen a lot of improvement, just want to make sure I'm doing it right. P.S. I love your channel and the content you provide. Definitely my favourite quarantine discovery
I contacted the ordinary with pictures and my skin concerns. They sent me a full am and pm routine well except for a cleanser and a sunscreen but I already had those. Everything together was $70 with the small sizes not the new larger sizes. I love your channel I just want people to know they have an option to talk to the ordinary.
So true! This will sound horrible but I’m 37 now and have NEVER used sunscreen in my life (except when I was a young child). I have recently started using it, as much as I hate it, but only on my face. I really need to start putting it on my body too 😕
I have a Biology and a Chemistry degree and I have been teaching at the College and High School level for over ten years. I love how informative and accurate your explanations are.
Do you review other affordable brands because The Ordinary doesn't work for everyone? You are very knowledgeable about ingredients and I would love information on other affordable brands.
The Inkey List, Revolution, Simple, Cereve, Aveeno and Neutrogena are probably your best bet. There aren't that many out there... Some K-beauty brands are quite affordable but I don't know much about them. Cosrx and Krave are the only ones I'm kinda that familiar with.
I’ve been using soonjung like from etude. The foam wash, toner, emulsion , and barrier repair cream. It works really well and is simple and my skin feels great after.
Hi Cassandra, The first time I watched your video on how to cover acne with makeup was when I started suffering from acne in 2012. I found your youtube channel again two months ago, I still had acne back then. Last month, I decided to analyse your videos and fully trust you to create my daily am/pm routine. I bought all products and after one week, I could see clear results : my skin now looks AMAZING. It's been one month, and I don't think I will ever change my routine. I write this long comment to say thank you. You helped me way more than any skin specialist I ever consulted over the last 9+ years. Here is the routine if someone is curious about it : (note: it does not include cleanser as I am using Aesop's Amazing face cleanser which I bought before) AM: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner Glossier Super Pure Niacinamide Vitamin B3 Zinc Serum The Ordinary Buffet The Ordinary SPF 30 + Antioxidants 100% Pure Mattifying Primer PM: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner The Ordinary Vitamin C Ascorbic Acid 8 Alpha Arbutin 2 The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
I’m someone with very dry skin as I am a guy, I’ve been using that niacinamide, not to lighten dark spots but I find that it works better to soften and firm my skin. I doesn’t leave my skin tight, however it does ball up if put together with certain other products that I’ve used from the same line. I’d say you can go without their moisturizer, it’s great for the price but even then it’s not worth having to use a heavier moisturizer over it. I also don’t appreciate the satin matte finish. And I don’t wear makeup but if you use sunscreen I find that I have to double cleanse. I just don’t think that their squalene cleanser is strong enough to remove everything. I know that it works (tested it out different ways) but sometimes it feels like it absolutely did nothing but absorb into my skin. It’s also not hydrating for dry skin.
That is so weird. I have combo to dry skin and everytime I use the ordinary niacinamide my skin has a bad reaction to it. Everything is dry and my cheeks get flushed for a few days. I can solve the dryness by using a thicker moisturizer, but my cheeks still get red.
@Tina Yael Severinova M. damn, I struggle to convince myself that the flushing and the dryness is from the niacinamide too. It's just that everybody seems to have a life-changing results with it. I kind of tell myself that maybe it's something else that's doing that to my face and I find myself everyother week using it, only to find out it fucked up my face once again...
@Tina Yael Severinova M. Do you get those only with the ordinary niacinamide? Because I only have this problem with the ordinary's one, so it could be the same in your case. Try using other products with niacinamide in them, but at lower concentrations.
I absolutely LOOOOVE your videos, WOW! I'm 27y/o and I recently started to see the consequences of not having a skincare routine. I had no clue how to start a routine but now I do thanks to you! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Good lord. I have been binge watching your videos for about an hour or two while getting some chores done and I have learned more about skin in general and my skin in particular, than I did in years of talking to dermatologists and aestheticians. This comment dropped on this video now, cuz it's been the one my fiancee and soon (the day after tomorrow O.o) to be wife initially recommended to me, yesterday. But I could write dozens upon dozens of quite similar 😮-comments underneath every single one I've seen. My goodness... where have y'all been my whole life? Male socialisation is even worse than I could've imagined... 😂❤
Thank you so much! I LOVE that I didn't have to watch a billion videos and take notes, you have it all simplified here. You are amazing, so down to earth and honest. Please keep doing what you're doing, you're making a huge difference in the world♥️
I have used The Ordinary products for @ 18 months and love them all. My daughter has oily, closed comedom prone skin, I bought her a range of products and she is hooked too. I am in my 60's with extremely dry skin, these are the first products that seem to help the dryness, the aging and are affordable
Between the recommendations by you and Skincare by Hyram, I am set for starting a new routine! I don't actually have one at all right now other than wash and moisturize, so I'm super excited to get my new products in the mail!
Same. I have ordered the Estée Lauder Perfectly Clean Multi Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask, the Ordinary 10% Niacinamide + Zinc 1% and the Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors. I hope they work well for my skin and I don’t get a bad reaction. 🤞🏻
Hey Cassandra, I am 47, have combination skin with a little bit oily on my T-zone, this in my AM & PM routine: In the MORNING (5 steps, 5 products): 1. Hada Labo AHA BHA face wash 2. Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid 3. The Ordinary Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% 4. The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone (My skin can tolerate well, love it!) 5. Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+/PA+++ In the Evening (5 steps, 5 products): 1. Hada Labo Ultimate Moisturizing Cleansing Oil 2. Hada Labo Gokujyun Ultimate Moisturizing Face Wash 3. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 4. The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion 5. The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil Please correct me if my combination products is wrong. I use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution but only once a week :D
Khadija Süßmann that’s nice. I recently ordered the vitamin c silicon suspension. She mentioned we can use it during the day but with proper spf which you do. How are the products helping your skin?
@@snigdhajaiswal7666 I've been using these products I mentioned above since 2018, almost 2 years, and my skin love it 😍 smooth, glowing, and I don't need extra primer to hide my pores lol..
This kickstarted my obsession with The Ordinary.....I’m one step away from wearing a flower crown and dancing around an shrine of Ordinary products.....
Cassanda is the only one who were able to convinced me to use The Ordinary products and she did not go wrong. It really works very well you just have to be patient coz for me it works a lil bit slow but it worked especially the niacinamide. Thank you very much Cassandra for all your hadrworks. You don’t how much you helped a lot of people. God bless you!
I love The ordinary! I use alot of their products and I'm very happy with them. The only thing I would love is if they could formulate a mineral SPF without comedogenic and fungal acne trigger ingredients. At least not so high up on the ingredient list. Perferably under the 1% line.
Cassandra you should do some videos for all skin types recommending what products to use. For dry sensitive acne prone skin, oily acne prone skin. And so on I think people would love it and it would actually be very helpful for a lot of us. You should also talk about the products on correct format you use them which would also help us know what to use first and after.
@@viviangallego162 wait this is so cool wtf I'm thinking about studying pharmacy which has alot of chemistry, but I don't have a chemistry class in my a-level I have maths and physics Do you think I can still understand it if I do some chemistry courses? I don't know anythink about chemistry but I really like it (I know it sounds weird)
@@ragh9014 Hi, I'm not very knowledgable on how you would get your qualifications in the UK (I'm assuming that's where you're at) but I know that to get a chem degree you need a pretty specific set of courses so I would recommend you talk to someone at your university who knows how to help you! Chemistry does involve a lot of math and physics, but if you're looking to study pharmacy it's pretty involved and requires some rigorous courses. If you don't have a program that offers biochem or chem, I would suggest discussing your plans with someone because they know exactly how to help : )
@@viviangallego162 I'm from Germany and technically, you can get into a university with that field, but I don't know if I can understand anything in there you know😅😂
Thank you for this video!!!!!!! After watching this video, I have changed my skincare and after two weeks I saw such a difference! I was able to go out without having to conceal any blemishes. I haven’t been able to do so in years! For the morning, I use the envyuskin acne soap, the boissance dark spot corrector, and then the ordinary moisturizer (I limit the products during the day since I have oil and acne prone skin). In the evening, I use the envyuskin charcoal acne soap, the ordinary toner, the ordinary niaminacide and zinc serum, the boissance dark spot corrector, and then the ordinary moisturizer.
Thank God I saw this video! I've been needing this for forever and it answers all of my questions and confusions. Thank you so much Cassandra! Love you!
I've just recently come across your channel and I wanted to thank you for all your advice! I absolutely love your videos on the ordinary because as a poor uni student i couldn't afford to have a good skincare routine. I've started using some of the ordinary products you've recommended (niacinamide) and its done wonders for my oily skin !! thank you so so much!
1:03 I never thought about that!!! 😯😯😯 products from your hair can touch your face if you sleep with your hair down. I mean duh right? I just never thought about it. Thank you for your videos! ❤ I've been thinking about trying a new face routine - The Original 🤩
I don't wash my face in the morning. I use a hot washcloth and 'steam' then follow with a cold washcloth. Of course, I'm 65 years old so this wouldn't work 20 or more years ago when I had very oily skin. Love the toner and use it most nights. I use non-alcohol Thayer's witch hazel during the day. I love the Ordinary Buffet! I alternate daily with the pycnogenol 5%. I use Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 over both. I use Australian Gold Mineral no-greasy 50 SPF tinted sunscreen. I dealt with malignant melanoma at 50 so I'm militant about protection! I'm a bodyboarder and this sunscreen is bar-none, the best ever even on my very fair skin, and love the tint. At night I use Retinol 1% every night with nothing over. I've read that the granactive is less effective so no longer purchase. I use the AHA 30% a couple times a week at night only. I do feel the sting but do not need gloves to apply. Using The Ordinary products have absolutely made a remarkable difference in my mature skin. My (11 month) younger sister had a full facelift because her skin was aging rapidly. They did a chemical peel and her skin now looks as smooth as mine. Note: I had cystic acne my entire life. Finally, when I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma at 49, I went dairy-free (I was already veg-20 years), and BOOM! No more acne! It took a few weeks to clear out my system but I've had no acne, none, for the past 16 years! I used to manually exfoliate and try so many different products that I'm sure I exacerbated my acne issues. But the only thing I changed at 49 was going dairy-free. I started using The Ordinary a couple years ago and my skin has finally balanced out. It's a great line. I hope Estee Lauder doesn't ruin this company. Thanks for your review!
thank you thank you thank you. have been slowly transitioning to and rebuilding my daily routine with the ordinary products and have seen my aging skin improve (esp challenging after moving countries, experiencing different weather, pollution and stress levels) love your honesty and recommendations. could not be more grateful.
Cassandra, I love your hair! Could you possibly do any hair routine/styling tips video someday? I'd love to know how you do your, especially since I have curly hair like yours and would love to know how you deal with it to make it look so gorgeous everytime. 😍💕
Thank you, Ms. Cassandra. Because of your informative videos, I have purchase a customized regimen from The Ordinary and am looking forward to the positive benefits from their products and your videos on how to use their products. You are an amazing, educated, and caring individual.... thank you so *much* for what you to do to help others with skin issues. Rock ON!
Love your energy and fun you put into the video! Anyway it would be great if you can make a full skincare routine for combination and acne prone with sensitive skin xx
ordered all these products a week ago & my roder came in the mail earlier today. cant wait to apply the nightime routine. So so grateful to have stumbled across your channel and the realness you spew. Thanks babe!
What is your most recommended The Ordinary “Vitamin C”? I saw you do a video on the L Ascorbic Acid Powder as well, so I’m just wondering which you think is best to use? Thanks!
Hello ladies😊 I just bought the squalane cleanser to wash off the little coconut oil i use to clean sunscreen and the little make up I use. Plus a retinol emulsion, buffet, the H.A b5, rose seed oil and the "pink" acid peel... for 50€!!! Cannot wait to try them and thank you once more, for saving us the hussle of spending ludicrous amounts of money on fancy stuff when less is more. ❤
Thank you for your in depth videos they are super helpful! I was just wondering if chemical peels can be combined with polypeptides such as “buffet” because the chemical peel could denaturate the proteins. Therefore I’ve always used them separately am and pm. Is there any point in doing so or are they really fine to layer?
Ok. I legit have to say. You are Stunning. Beauty, brains, sense of humor and love that you're one of us that truly try to spend our money with brands that correlate with our morals. I would love to see you review platinum skincare. Specifically the Retinoid Serum, the Stem cell serum and their tca peels😍 I can't find a single review on anything besides peels.
I really want to love TO but I just can’t, every single product I tried seemed off and not suited for my skin. I’m gonna stick to Paula’s Choice and Korean skincare - those do wonders for my skin.
Since I'm on quarantine, I've started to use The Ordinary products more often, and wear no make-up for weeks. Now I could say toner is wow, It 's really helps improve skin texture. Also i've started to use Buffet more often than Niacinamide, may be because of toning effect it works better now.
I’m only two days in so I’m probably premature with my post, but I truly love how these products feel. I’m a stay at home mom who rarely puts on makeup, so the cleanser is great! Even on the days I put on a little bit of makeup, it washes it clean off! Fantastic. Also, I’ve never had acne until I become an adult, so it’s been interesting trying to find something that works with older skin, yet tackles acne without further drying my face out. I also hate moisturizers that leave your skin feeling oiling. I can honestly say this moisturizer is amazing. I truly feel like it simply hydrates my skin. It doesn’t feel oily, and it doesn’t feel caked. I absolutely love it. As far as the toner “Glycolic Acid” or the “retinoids” my adult acne isn’t that bad, so I’m a bit hesitant to use one of them every night. It’s really strong when it comes to exfoliating.
You have taught me so much about the Ordinary!! Thank you!! I love that brand! Question.... can I use the Ordinary glycolic acid 7% toner with the Buffet at night?
For toner I am using biore witch hazel. After that I have to use ponds moisturizer. But I have been thinking of ordering these, but with coronavirus I’m waiting for this to die down.
You can put order on their web-site, however shipping may takes longer than usual. Anyway, it takes about 2 month to deliver products to my bizarre country)
I just made it to my 30s and I’ve been heavily investing into my skin for a year now. Thank you for showing me the way to good yet affordable skin care. Thank you for your easy explanation on the products, usage and skin reactions. I truly appreciate your knowledge and time.
I loved this information!! After turning and learning, I’ve thrown away a lot of useless products & have just brought this range of The Ordinary products. (however this routine in Australian dollars was much more expensive then $100, but I’m sure it’ll be totally worth it). Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge xo
there are some great oils and hydrating products from the ordinary! although you may need something stronger than the natural moisturizing factors, i love their hyaluronic acid and i put it on my dry areas before i put on a moisturizer
Well I have both dry and sensitive skin, my eczema is so annoying🙄. It left dry scaly patches all over my face but I use the glycolic toner(after eczema healed) and it has been a miracle getting rid of dark patches. so then I purchased the niacinamide, buffet, and hyaluronic acid my moisture levels have improved tremendously!!! I only use toner at night with moisturizer.
So Peace I am not quite sure, but as both ingredients are strong they might cause irritation, and “We would not recommend combining direct acids with peptides due to the susceptibility of peptides to hydrolysis (which breaks the bonds between peptides, reducing their efficacy and making them into individual amino acids). At low pH, the peptides undergo processes such as deamidation (the removal of an amide group) and oxidation, which compromise the activity of the peptides”(c)
You're right to do so. Glycolic acid shouldn't be used in same routine as the buffet and many would even suggest that glycolic acid is better at night and shouldn't be used every night for some people. This shows the conflicts of TO products: www.deciemchatroom.com/the-ordinary-conflicts/.
This "toner" is more an exfoliator than a toner.. You should use it 2 to 3 times a week. Otherwise you can have irritation even if you don't have a sensitive skin.
Thank you so much for the glycolic acid + retinoid tips! A lot of times we forget about the pH of the products and want to put all things at one go so that reminder is very useful.
Double cleansing at night and using a miceller gel cleanser in the morning would be a lot better. I know it's theoretically possible but I have zero idea why anyone would base their whole routine on the Ordinary. Believe it or not, there are products equal to or better than their's at roughly the same price point.
LeahofWoW At PM moisturise first and the use the oil. It works as an occlusive to seal the hydration in. If you put the moisturiser after the oil it won't penetrate into your skin because of the barrier that the oil has created. 🙂
I would also try to avoid using an oil after using hyaluronic acid. It's supposed to draw moisture to your skin, but if you're "sealing it in" with an oil it will draw moisture FROM your skin and it could dry you out even more.
Hi! I struggle with acne and lots of hyperpigmentation. I'm currently on curology right now (my formula is 10% Azelaic Acid, 1% Clindamycin and 4% Niacinamide) and my provider told me to use the noble zinc soap as my face wash. However, I am really at a loss as to what my skincare routine should be and am unable to contact curology due to the current cornoa situation. However, I do use the Ordinary's products for the rest of my routine, but I am not sure if any of my products are canceling each other out..etc. I currently use: AM: -Noble Zinc Soap -The Ordinary Plant-Derived Squalene -The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid PM: -Noble Zinc Soap -Curology -The Ordinary's Lactic Acid -The Ordinary Plant-Derived Squalene -The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid -The Ordinary Rose Hip Oil -Mario Badescu Drying Lotion This is the exact order of my product, occasionally I use the Ordinary's AHA+BHA Peel once a week (when I do, I don't use the lactic acid after). Cassandra, please help me know if what I'm using is okay. I 100000% trust your advice and have been watching you for so long! I've had acne for over 6 years (I'm 18 now and in college) and have tried antibiotics, different cleansers...etc. My acne + hyperpigmentation has really taken a toll on my self-confidence, and I really don't know what products to use (I really love the ordinary since its budget-friendly) or if I'm using the products in the right order. My skin is super acne-prone, and I always experience purging with any new products. At this point, I really just need some help...thanks if you ever see this
Conny N. I cleared my skin playing it simply -Cleanser -niacinamide 10 zinc 1. PM & AM (SPF) -Moisturizer “AHA 30% + BHA pealing solution” 1 or 2x Per week Retinol 0.5% in Squalane. (If needed)
@@xxlllxx5982 Hey!! I recently got on tretinoin 0.025% and on spironolactone 100mg (use both PM) from my dermatologist and its done wonders!!!!! I use the vanicream gentle facial cleanser and the cerave moisturizing cream AM and PM and I've seen so much of a difference. I think, like you said, keeping your routine simple is so so so important! Thanks for your info :)))
Even though they call it a ‘toner” which people tend to use daily, it’s still an exfoliating acid, so using it daily, and especially TWICE daily probably is not recommended. Right?
Glycolic acid toner used to dry my skin like CRAZY, like sandpaper dry but I’ve recently started applying aloe Vera gel afterwards and now I’m seeing the full effect of it I need it now 👏🏼👏🏼
That peeling solution is GREAT and same time BRUTAL to my face 😅🤣 I mean, it tingles and than I see my face dead cells peel of throughout the whole week 😱 that is a strong and very effective peeling solution
Considering how budget oriented The Ordinary is I’m surprised the squalane cleanser is $8 for only 1oz. Especially when you can get an 8oz CeraVe cleanser for $9 or a 13.5oz La Roche Posay cleanser for $15...
You’re videos have SAVED my skin!!😍 I have one big question when it comes to The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution! All the products that I’ve tried with Salicylic acid break me out so I stick with benzoyl peroxide when it comes to skincare, but with the great reviews of their AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution I really want to try it! Do you think it might break me out?? Thank you for all the information and education that you share!💕
Sofia Garcia I have pretty sensitive skin and I found that as long as you patch test you should know if your skin is going to react or not. because before I try any acids or active on my face I always patch test it so I just patch test it behind my ears it on my neck so if I do break out is in places that aren’t as visible as my face
I have the same problem with my skin when I use anything with salicylic acid. I have been using neutrogena clear pore cleanser for years( it contains benzoyl peroxide). But I am interested in hearing the answer to this because I really need something different.
you guys may be perging from the BHA because it goes deep in the poors and push the gunk out so it could be just a short term breakout while your skin is getting rid of the stuff. But I am not a expert I am just really into skincare and do a lot of research . hope this helps 😉
Honestly, I am still so confused about mixing products. I just received the 4 products I purchased: 1. Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA 2. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 3. AHA 30% + BHA 30% Peeling Solution 4. Vitamin C: Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F I'm not quite sure in what order to use which products to get the most out of them. I just cleansed my face and used the niacinamide all over my face and used a bit of the alpha Arbutin on red spots or pimply parts. I plan on using the vitamin c tomorrow morning and probably the alpha Arbutin as well ...I know using water based products before the molecules would like lessen their effect but I use a water based moisturizer, at least that's the main ingredient on the ingredients list 😂 (CeraVe daily moisturizing lotion) but I don't know if I'm harming the process by using this moisturizer. Please help!
Kaijoken Caroline Hirons did a very recent video about this. She recommends in your 20s use chemical exfoliaters 2x a week, 30s 3x a week, 40s should use 4x a week and so on. She also said there’s only so many times your skin can and will turn over, so, for that reason don’t want to overdo it before you’re even 40
thank u for creating this like fr...this video is godsend at the right time cause i was snooping around sephora with youth to the ppl products knocking on my door and my cart, so that's getting removed from my cart for sure lol. i did buy 5 products of The Ordinary and i'm very excited to use them and plan my regimen accordingly! love your opinion and love your skin omg its amazing!
This couch brought back so many memories lol I used to watch you all the time and just stumbled upon your channel again. Happy to see how much you’ve grown, you’ve always been so intelligent and sweet but even more so now.
I don’t think skincare is that difficult to understand if you try, like anything else you can learn 💁♀️ but I do think the buffet and the niacinamide and zinc used one after the other are a nice mix, I use them together daily 😊 couldn’t imagine not using a moisturizer though! Beware though that the toner is very drying if you have dry skin! I can only use it a couple times a week. Also my suggestion for a great cleanser that lasts a long time and isn’t super expensive is the First Aid Beauty cleanser!
Omg, no! most people will totally destroy their skin barrier using that glycolic acid even once a day never mind twice. That shouldn’t be used more than a few times a week. TO calls it a toner but it is not. It’s a strong glycolic exfoliating acid that should not be used daily. I think it’s important to remind people to start an active only once a week and evaluate your skin. Increase very slowly and never start more than one new product at a time or you won’t know what your skin is reacting with, either well or poorly.
L P recently I was making my order from TO and I was tempted to get also the toner, but I fortunately decided to listen to one of our local cosmetics guru who definitely advised to start slowly with acids, just once or twice in the week and for sure PM... I ended up buying Pixi Glow Toner 5% and I can tell it was a smart thing to do. My skin needs to get use to acids first. I like Cassandra but I don’t agree with the AM routine she presents here.
Yea, I worry about people going and buying this whole routine and destroying their skin barrier! Happens wayyy to often! Good luck with your routine! 😁
Monika Oravcová love cassandra but I agree it could be irritating to “most people” .. i have oily skin ( my friends having normal skin) at least for us Asians (or south east asians) we don’t really find it irritating, it could be very beneficial for us to exfoliate everyday (face and body) So i don’t disagree with her statement. It really all depends on your skin tolerance. I think most people from the West should really start low.
@@ZgtGirl absolutely! NIa is very drying and can be very irritating. The TO nia is rough for a lot of people due to the high percent and addition of zinc which bothers a lot of people. I would cut back to once a day max and just use a teeny but. I add one drop to my moisturizer about three times a week. More than that actually causes breakouts for me.
Here is a link explaining the difference www.beautifulwithbrains.com/the-ordinary-retinoid-products-guide/. They both contain the same level of retinoid, but the emulsion contains and additional encapsulates retinol, making it slightly stronger than the emulsion formula. Squalane is a plant derived moisturizer that has a similar feel to an oil, but easily absorbs into the skin, whereas the emulsion formula has a creamier base.
@@pineapplelumps1189 it helped to clear out my skin for a while then for some reason I started to break out again but it could be because of other factors but still I stopped using it and use different products. (I use tretinoin now).. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer but I hope it helps a lil bit :)
I know this video is older, but I thought I’d drop my personal findings. I’ve tried the squalane cleanser as well as the glyco-lipid cleanser. I like them both, but I run through them quickly, even the larger sizes that are 150ml and cost $21, so personally, I’ve reverted back to the CeraVe hydrating cleanser and also the cream to foam cleansers since you get like 562 ounces for about $17. Yes, it can be argued that The Ordinary cleansers are ‘better’, but if I’m going through my cleansers that fast, to me that’s just wasting money, personally, when the CeraVe cleansers are perfectly fine and do the job well. Outside of my cleanser, everything else is all The Ordinary products, so, after the cleanser, during the day, I’m using the multi-peptide (used to be called ‘The Buffet’) + copper serum, followed by the Aloe + NAG serum. No moisturizer. Might seem odd, but when I was using a moisturizer with those two, it was too much. The Aloe provides plenty of hydration, which may not even be its intent, but at least on my skin, on top of the peptide/copper serum, it has a hydrating and sealing effect, and lasts all day without irritation or sensitivity. In fact, the multi-peptide/copper serum can feel slightly ‘stingy’ depending on the day, and the aloe serum actually calms that down nicely. At night I just wash and then it’s the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. True, it’s not the strongest and The Ordinary has since come out with their Retinal 0.2% Emulsion, but the retinal you need to be really careful around the eyes and I’m sorry, but I’ll be 47 in February, and I want retinoid benefits for my bags and crows feet, so, I concluded to just stick with the granactive emulsion every night. It seems to have somewhat of a loading effect, similar to creatine and how it loads in the bloodstream and ends up compounding on itself nicely. The peptide/copper and aloe/NAG compliment the retinoid nicely and the whole routine is inexpensive and effective. I saw results in just a few weeks and have been using the same simple routine ever since. Like, obvious positive results, and I’ve yet to see any evidence that my skin is getting too used to any of these products to where I’d need to switch it up and try something new. In any case, your mileage may vary. I’m sure there’s more expensive products that are ‘better’, but I just need a routine that’s really easy to source when I’m running low, where none of the products are in danger of going away any time soon (bc face routines are a long game), and lastly that each product is effective and affordable. This routine hits all those marks for me. Hope that helps someone out there.
It is!! Glycolic acid penetrates the skin VERY fast due to its small molecular size. Many other youtubers that are working in skincare industry, recommend using it 1-2 times a week. I don't have very sensitive skin (it's combination), but I used it every second day or more in the summer and experienced a lot of irritation. It got really red, dry and flaky. Took me weeks to recover. I can't ever use it in winter, it rips my skin apart!
I use the glycolic acid toner daily and my skin has shown no signs of irritation and I've been through three bottles. I think it just depends on the individual's skin sensitivity.
Hello, i have oily skin and i apply the toner twice a day. Its been like a month and i cant tell how much my skin has improved. Its amazing and i love it. You should try.
Oh my, I actually bought everything on this video - except the sunscreen because they had ran out of it. Can you give us, men who have to shave our faces 3 to 4 times a week, some tips and tricks to prevent razor bumps? I've been working hard on my routine in order to prevent it but it's been a roller coaster ride. Love your videos!
Wait! I have questions - 1. What is a neutraliser and which ones would you recommend after the chemical peel? 2. What if I use the peptide instead of the toner, where do I go with the routine then? Ps I love your videos and really hope you see this comment 😁
because it’s still pretty dry and cold where i am (spring come faster!), id say that if the moisturizer isn’t enough, the ordinary offers some facial oils that u can mix in or put on top of the moisturizer!! it definitely helps your akin retain even more moisture if u need it overnight.
Pre cleanser Micellar gel cleanser
Squalane cleanser
Niacinamide 10%
Cold Rosehip oil
Plant derived squalane
And centella sunscreen
Are these okay to use together it was recommended for my combination skin ? :)and do I really need another moisturizer
@@jc-gu8bk thank you so much for sharing information. I really need help for making this decision.
@@justkomplikovano no problem I'm still trying to decide what's best for my combination skin without it being over powering👍😊
I just did this! How long did it take for them to get back to you?
How do you contact them? Is there a link or somewhere to go on their website?
Hayley Ritter uhm im pretty sure you kind of just saved my life, thank youuu !!
Celine Hag-Eriksen yay! Your welcome I’m so glad I could help :-)
Hayley Ritter do you think the routine they gave you is effective ?
I am 55 and still find this guidance useful. I wish I had this information in my twenties!
"Sun block everyone!"
You look amazing
So true! This will sound horrible but I’m 37 now and have NEVER used sunscreen in my life (except when I was a young child). I have recently started using it, as much as I hate it, but only on my face. I really need to start putting it on my body too 😕
Omg no way you’re 55!

The Ordinary is all that I will ever need for the rest of my entire life!
Talk about skin life completely changed!!
Do you review other affordable brands because The Ordinary doesn't work for everyone? You are very knowledgeable about ingredients and I would love information on other affordable brands.
Tyresse Ferguson the inkey list would be awesome:)
Skippy Purito is a K-Beauty brand that I’ve heard was good too!
I’ve been using soonjung like from etude. The foam wash, toner, emulsion , and barrier repair cream. It works really well and is simple and my skin feels great after.

Hi Cassandra,
The first time I watched your video on how to cover acne with makeup was when I started suffering from acne in 2012.
Here is the routine if someone is curious about it :
(note: it does not include cleanser as I am using Aesop's Amazing face cleanser which I bought before)
AM:
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner
Glossier Super Pure Niacinamide Vitamin B3 Zinc Serum
The Ordinary Buffet
The Ordinary SPF 30 + Antioxidants
100% Pure Mattifying Primer
PM:
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner
The Ordinary Vitamin C Ascorbic Acid 8 Alpha Arbutin 2
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
When did you hit 1 mill? Congratulations girl. You deserve it and its so refreshing to see someone down to earth have a large following ♡
Wow! I spent weeks trying to figure out how to create a Ordinary routine. And I finally found it! Thank you so much for this!
William Saavedra Im with you on the cleanser, i like it but I could go without and don’t reach for it over my other cleansers most days
William Saavedra The inkey list have a double cleanser that may help. I’ve not used if myself but, at least it’s reasonably priced if it doesn’t
This was flat out excellent. The explanations were thorough and considerate of a ton of different factors!
The cleanser is awesome as a second cleanser. It feels like pure comfort on my face.
I ordered the glycolic toner, the buffet, and the niacinamide + zinc the other day! Can't wait to get them 😊 Cass is so helpful, love her!

Which ingredients trigger fungal acne?? I think i might have fungal acne, I'm still just learning about it
What is fungal acne
Cassandra you should do some videos for all skin types recommending what products to use. For dry sensitive acne prone skin, oily acne prone skin. And so on I think people would love it and it would actually be very helpful for a lot of us. You should also talk about the products on correct format you use them which would also help us know what to use first and after.

Honestly you should seriously hold lectures because you are so good at teaching people and explaining yourself so that everyone can keep up.
Currently binging her content, so good

What is your most recommended The Ordinary “Vitamin C”? I saw you do a video on the L Ascorbic Acid Powder as well, so I’m just wondering which you think is best to use? Thanks!
Hello ladies😊
I just bought the squalane cleanser to wash off the little coconut oil i use to clean sunscreen and the little make up I use.

Since I'm on quarantine, I've started to use The Ordinary products more often, and wear no make-up for weeks. Now I could say toner is wow, It 's really helps improve skin texture. Also i've started to use Buffet more often than Niacinamide, may be because of toning effect it works better now.
Thank you so much for your informative yet fun videos ! I've learned so much about skincare 😍 and what to use or not to use 💪🏻
Seriously my fav youtube channel
For toner I am using biore witch hazel. After that I have to use ponds moisturizer. But I have been thinking of ordering these, but with coronavirus I’m waiting for this to die down.
@Macie Frambach i think that glycolic acid toner must not be used with active ingredients such as niacinamide
They say on the website don't use strong acids together. So i can not use glycolic acid with the peeling solution in my skincare routine?
@Macie Frambach oh that is great thank you very much.
Definitely drop the witch hazel - doing that saved my skin

there are some great oils and hydrating products from the ordinary! although you may need something stronger than the natural moisturizing factors, i love their hyaluronic acid and i put it on my dry areas before i put on a moisturizer
Just go for niacinamide.
Thank you sooooo much!!! I just entered my 30s and skincare is a must for me. This has been so informative!
Toner at AM and peptides on the top? 🤔 I start having trust issues 😢
I am very confused too... don't they cancel each other out?
Anya Boytsova if you go on TO’s site it tells you which products can be mixed and which ones can’t

Skippy what products would you suggest that are price comparable? I’m looking to change it up.
I love the caffeine solution!
I would also try to avoid using an oil after using hyaluronic acid. It's supposed to draw moisture to your skin, but if you're "sealing it in" with an oil it will draw moisture FROM your skin and it could dry you out even more.
The peptides serum is really good, price vs quality is one of the best products on the market.
Thank you so much! Finally I can put my own skin-care-routine together :)
Your sense of humor is the best! I always find myself laughingvoutloud watching ur videos! Love u xx

This is the exact order of my product, occasionally I use the Ordinary's AHA+BHA Peel once a week (when I do, I don't use the lactic acid after). At this point, I really just need some help...thanks if you ever see this
Aww girl I’m in the same situation as you
@@jorjasmith7222 it totally sucks!!! idk what to do
Conny N. I cleared my skin playing it simply
-Cleanser
-niacinamide 10 zinc 1. PM & AM (SPF)
-Moisturizer
“AHA 30% + BHA pealing solution”
1 or 2x Per week
Retinol 0.5% in Squalane.
Right?
megan it’s best to use at night time, so you don’t have to apply it twice a day, and yes. Don’t use it every night
Glycolic acid toner used to dry my skin like CRAZY, like sandpaper dry but I’ve recently started applying aloe Vera gel afterwards and now I’m seeing the full effect of it I need it now 👏🏼👏🏼
This color palette is ssooo aesthetically pleasing!! The yellow with the purple florals mixes ssooo well!! And You are glowing!!💘✨💖💓🥰
مرحبا 😷😷😷
That peeling solution is GREAT and same time BRUTAL to my face 😅🤣 I mean, it tingles and than I see my face dead cells peel of throughout the whole week 😱 that is a strong and very effective peeling solution
Considering how budget oriented The Ordinary is I’m surprised the squalane cleanser is $8 for only 1oz. Especially when you can get an 8oz CeraVe cleanser for $9 or a 13.5oz La Roche Posay cleanser for $15...
Just started my full the ordinary skincare and thank you for your videos . My skin is at its best right now
You’re videos have SAVED my skin!!😍 I have one big question when it comes to The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution!
Theo4evers :OD thank you!! I saw her video on patch testing and will definitely be testing it on both my arm and behind my ear before my face!
Heather sargent I thought the same until I had a professional treat my skin and she found out that’s why I could never clears my acne!
Honestly, I am still so confused about mixing products. I just received the 4 products I purchased:
1. Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
2. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
3. AHA 30% + BHA 30% Peeling Solution
4. Vitamin C: Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F
I'm not quite sure in what order to use which products to get the most out of them.
I was wondering what acid neutraliser you would recommend using with the ordinary chemical peel product?
you make me want to study the science behind alllllllll skin care and the human skin! so inspired
I have heard that you shouldnt use the toner every night because you could oversensitise your skin?
Exactly. It's best used 2-3 times a week :)
I have very oily skin and so it works for me to just use it at night but it does oversensitive my skin occasionally then I just do every other night
Kaijoken Caroline Hirons did a very recent video about this. She recommends in your 20s use chemical exfoliaters 2x a week, 30s 3x a week, 40s should use 4x a week and so on. She also said there’s only so many times your skin can and will turn over, so, for that reason don’t want to overdo it before you’re even 40
Cameron Reekie And how often using physical exfoliates?
I've heard that same. Guess it depends on your skin. There is NO way I could use that glycolic toner daily nor would I want too.
thank u for creating this like fr...this video is godsend at the right time cause i was snooping around sephora with youth to the ppl products knocking on my door and my cart, so that's getting removed from my cart for sure lol. i did buy 5 products of The Ordinary and i'm very excited to use them and plan my regimen accordingly! love your opinion and love your skin omg its amazing!
Vitamin C and retinoid together at night = No!
Glycolic acid at that strength twice daily? = No!
Otherwise great review!
Guli's world would vitamin C in the morning and retinoid at night work?
Alyssa yes most definitely 👍🏼
Guli's world thank you :) I have some vitamin C oil already so that saves another purchase lol
She said to only use the vitamin c on nights you haven't used the retinoid though.....
vitamine c in the morning is not wise for black skin peope
This couch brought back so many memories lol I used to watch you all the time and just stumbled upon your channel again. Happy to see how much you’ve grown, you’ve always been so intelligent and sweet but even more so now.
I’m obsessed with The Ordinary thanks to you😂
I don’t think skincare is that difficult to understand if you try, like anything else you can learn 💁♀️ but I do think the buffet and the niacinamide and zinc used one after the other are a nice mix, I use them together daily 😊 couldn’t imagine not using a moisturizer though!
Does this apply to TO niacinamide also? I use it 2 times for l4 days. I have redness drynes breakouts... i have oily skin.
I’ve been using the ordinary for the past few months and love it! ❤ Thanks for making this, and talking about possible interactions 😊
I use the grenactive retinoid in squalene, how different is it from the emulsion one?
zarabella same i just ordered the squalene one bc the emulsion one ran out!
Is the squalene one any good? :) the emulsion is still sold out :(
@@pineapplelumps1189 it helped to clear out my skin for a while then for some reason I started to break out again but it could be because of other factors but still I stopped using it and use different products. (I use tretinoin now).. Sorry I don't have a definitive answer but I hope it helps a lil bit :)
@@Thesimplyawkward thank you so much for that reply, that was so helpful 👍👍🌼 all the best with the rest of your skincare journey!
Isn’t using Glycolic acid which is 7% every night a little too harsh on the skin and over-exfoliating it?
I only use it twice a week
Oh my, I actually bought everything on this video - except the sunscreen because they had ran out of it. Can you give us, men who have to shave our faces 3 to 4 times a week, some tips and tricks to prevent razor bumps? I've been working hard on my routine in order to prevent it but it's been a roller coaster ride. Love your videos!
Just ordered everything on here even tho I know nothing about skincare & have never used any skincare products other than face wash oops
How did it go?
I have been using many L'Oreal and Elf products but now am using more of The Ordinary ones .
Wait! I have questions -
Hello GORGEOUS, Do you read comments?? If you do please answer at least some of the concerns, please and thank you
