Here's a trick I've been doing for years. Always fill the petrol tank before returning home., and adding additive to the fuel. You'll always be ready to ride and never have to worry about running out before getting to the station. Also, with the fuel pump in the tank, you'll be risking damage to the pump that needs to be cooled by the gas. A cover for the Bonny would keep all the dust off. Even a simple bed sheet is better than nothing. 👍👍

Great idea to fill up before returning home.

Funny, with my GS I always filled up as I went out. I had to allow for some extra time and I knew the range, so I wasn't caught out. But that saved me pushing a top heavy bike around the garage. 😉

Freddie and Monica, the wife and me love watching your videos and your boyish fun and outlook on life.
What you need now is a tow hook on the Jeep and a Motolug collapsible bike trailer. We’ve not long been back from 3 weeks holiday in France with my RE interceptor in the trailer. Car stayed at the campsite and we toured around on the bike and loved every minute of it.
Next year, Airbnb’s and explore the uk with car and bike. This has been inspired by your videos and the adventures you’ve both had.
So thank you Freddie and Monica and keep up the great work.

Great video Freddie. A little tip regarding fuel. When you next fill up your (rather lovely) Jeep. Take a petrol can and put 5 litres of E5 fuel in it. E5 fuel stays fresh for up to 12 months (unlike E10, which starts going off after a month). You can leave it in a cupboard and use it if the fuel level of one of your bikes drops very low. After 8 or so months without use, you can pour it into the Jeep and prepare a fresh can of E5 at the pump. I always add a dash of Redex to the can too as this extends the life even further and cleans your engine too when used 🙂

Freddie, its facinating to see a little bit of Ipswich. My Grandfather was born there in about 1872. He served in Queen Victoria's 11th Hussars for 12 years until 1903. After serving in South Africa and India he migrated to NZ. I never met him as he died in 10.06.1945 when my father was only 12 years old. I'd like to see more.

Hey Freddie, I also have a 2022 Chief. They are cold blooded so when cold starting don’t blip the throttle right away, that could kill it when cold. Also the fuel gauge reads very low when on its side stand, and if already low on fuel may not want to start until you stand it up. The fuel pump probably isn’t in an ideal spot I guess.

I ran a hire car in Spain down to zilch en route back to the airport. It conked out about 200yds from a fuel stop. Me and 3 kids pushing and wife steering with a lot of deserved hen pecking!!! I manfully tried to refuel a couple of litres to get to the airport still proud of my frugality😊. As I put the pump in the tank it blew back a lot of diesel ?? Air I don’t know but I was covered in smelly diesel. I had to throw my clothes and shoes. I absolutely stunk of diesel on the flight home. I have never got near to running out again. Not have my kids ever let me forget it. Including it in a photo montage and piss take about my whole life😂 at my 65 th birthday

7:24 It wasn't clear from your "Scotland Awaits" video whether or not you used a new sump plug washer. They're single use items and should not be reused. They're only pennies so buy half-a-dozen and keep them in your Libertatia tool roll and you'll always be prepared. I think they're aluminium from the factory, (like my Ducati), but copper works just as well. The one thing you mustn't be tempted to do to stop a leaking drain plug is to just keep tightening it - that's a surefire way to strip the threads and then your slight drip becomes a much bigger problem. I believe the torque setting is 25Nm (check with Joe).

I generally have a tub of fuel in my garage just in case, but it's not something everyone can do especially in your circumstances. I like to go to new places but sometimes going to a home away from home location makes it a relaxing break. I was down in San Sebastian in January and rode up to Biaritz as I was so close and relived a road trip I did 20+ years ago. Memories are goot to revisit too.

  • @volt8684

The thing about running dry/low is if the fuel pump is in the tank which most cars are the fuel actually keeps the pump cool. Whereas if running in air the pump gets hot and early demise of the pump plus any crap in the tank from the petrol forecourt tanks.
Put some fuel additive in the tank too or drain it.

If your Chief is really low on fuel it will not start if it is on the sidestand due to where the fuel pickup is in the tank. As soon as you stand the bike upright it will start fine and you can make it to a fuel station. Fuel gauge is not the problem. ;)

Freddie, you've hit the big time, five young robotic ladies commenting on your latest video.
It's one of my bugbears, inaccurate range meter thingies, it's another of those digital encroachments that we don't really need. My Triumph Scrambler has a dreadful habit of showing 20+ miles of range when I get home and 3 miles when I next get on it. I'd much rather a simple gauge.
I'm beginning to think, like you, that there's a sweet spot for bikes and that my Triumph is just a bit too modern.

I do get quite a lot of bots commenting, and I still don’t understand why it happens😆
I’m going to have to be much more careful with the range from now on!

Try a Honda Transalp 750 shows reserve light after last bar has gone , but still has 6 litres minimum in tank that’s about 130 km minimum range left .

The range estimate is based on your riding style. Maybe you need to reset the MPG to get a more accurate reading?

Nice video Freddie. Are you getting anyone to do a full service on the Bonnie?

Thanks Stevie. I’ve done about 5k miles since I picked the bike up, so I think I’ll get it serviced before Christmas when back in London

I always reset the trip when I fill up with petrol. I know how many miles I get from a full tank, much more accurate than a fuel gauge. Is there still a speedway team in Ipswich? They used to be very good.

Hi, Feddie; thank you for the wonderful content. Could you perhaps say a few words comparing the Indian to the FatBob? Thanks

Heavy cruisers are not my thing but that Indian looks so much nicer than the Harley equivalent...

Freddie, how's it going brother. Great video as always! I've bought my 2021 Indian Scout Bobber 20, soon after the first video you've made of that bike. I was talking with an Indian dealership the other day, he suggested to do a trade in, for the new 2025 Indian Sport Scout with the limited+Tech package. Or, should I just go with the Indian 101 Scout with the updated shocks, brembo brakes, etc. Interesting times we're living in. lol. A blessed weekend mate! Cheers from San Diego, California.

I don't believe it's fuel with the Indian, Freddie. I have an Indian FTR 1200S and when the temperature drops below about 12 degrees outside, it refuses to start. This has happened since it was brand new. Krazy Horse replaced the battery a couple of times but that only fixed it for a few days. The minute the voltage drops even slightly, which happens in colder weather, it won't start. It just cranks until the battery dies. I cannot tell you how much hassle it was. It's now my summer bike so it's not really an issue but the only way to use it in cold weather is to have it plugged into a trickle charger which of course keeps the battery topped right up. It's a very bizarre thing for such an expensive vehicle - maybe something to do with getting it through UK emissions rules but there you have it - I don't know but I am certain thats it. Watching you waiting for it to fire brought back some horrible memories!

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but during the starting portion of the bike in the beginning it kinda seemed that the brake lights were coming on... a little flickering... like maybe an adjustment on the pedal switch is too tight. 🤔😎

Blockhouse Indian is who you are thinking about they rebadged royal Enfield and velocette for the American market,.also the man who helped Indian onto racing history was an Irishman called Franklin.

Fuel gauge? I remember when I was checking out a new Yammy 350 YPVS. As I was getting on the bike to try it for size the salesman was apologising for the lack of a fuel gauge. I could hear the fuel sloshing around in the tank. I guess if you were wearing earplugs it might be a problem.
