@@Paul-kp1tu That's kind of you. Maybe not the best forum, but it was 1995, we (mum, sister and me) took a taxi, which was covertly being trailed by a second car with 3 guys in it. Our taxi driver took us to the middle of nowhere and the three guys tried to drag me out at knife point. I refused to budge despite being jabbed with the knife, so they got in the car (mexican VW Beatle taxi: front passenger seat removed, so they're in that space) drove around, attacking us, threw my sister out the moving car. They realised they had gone down a very long dead end road so by the time they backed up to where my sister was jettisoned, she'd screamed loudly enough for the locals to have come to her aid and blocked their escape with a car of theirs. The kidnappers drove back to the dead end and 2 fled. I noticed the knife had disappeared so I fought back. Eventually held onto one of them, with aid of locals, until the police arrived. Like I say, Freddie would do it justice, I'm merely listing events.

Freddie, what a beautiful video. Relaxing, soothing, engaging. Your enthusiasm is infectious. The old man (mr darcy) said you’d fall in love with the R18. Looking forward to your full review. Beautiful filming from Monica.

When bikes get in your blood theres no getting it out and every bike will bring out a different emotion, and every ride a love for the next. As years pass our tastes change for the looks of the bike but never the emotion it evokes. Great video and love that a bike has reverse, why not 😁
My old GoldWing had the same thing. Reverse is actually powered by the starter. My Ural had an actual mechanical reverse that converted the output to reverse in ALL GEARS!😮. You could theoretically go full speed in reverse. Love those old Land Rovers. ❤
I love your videos man. Not only the bikes, the scenery and your storytelling talent are amazing, but the picture and sound quality are top notch. Pure joy.
That reverse gear configuration is something honda developed for their Goldwings in the 80's. It's exactly the same tech. Still strongly advise you do a goldwing series riding all the generations. It would be both popular and fun.

On a completely trivial note, I see you have the exact same Bean-to-Cup Coffee machine as us. We love it and it produces excellent coffee. Having said that, the coffee is still not so good as real Italian coffee, of which we also had plenty this last week or so, staying in Italy at Sorrento. I of course took cameras with me and photographed as many Bikes, Vespas and anything at all two-wheeled that I could. I'll then find a way of shoehorning them into a video somehow! Anyhow, back to BMWs and Hmmm apart from cost although a gorgeous bike, just too big and heavy for me!
nice video as usual, will have to try Walberswick instead of going to Southwold for a ride out. i Had an 09 Bonnie , my mpg was usually around 55 or sometimes 60 on a run, and not because i was bimbling, makes me wonder why your mpg is much lower?
You're video's are excellent Freddie, a total de- stress in this currently crazy world 🙌, As for the Beemer, it suits your style , maybe you need it as a stable mate for the Bonneville ?
cracking video as per normal, yes too am amazed by the weather in uk,, been so warm,, was out the weekend on my bike,, would normally have heated grips or big gloves on in October but didnt need, you do live in wonderful part off UK so near the east coast,, just a thought never had bike with reverse gear but if runs off starter motor do you need the engine running,
I have an R18. Yes. The engine must be running. When reverse is physically selected you cannot use the forward gears, they are isolated. As soon as you put the lever from R back to F the forward gears are available again and the dash shows N or 1st if you select it. It works really well, not needed on flat or hard ground but on say gravel it’s amazing.
@@jfro5867 i was worried if Freddie knocked gear lever it could take off forward, course as expected BMW fit a lock out,, its wonderful looking bike almost a work of art. nice one
My goodness, so your telling me that 1800cc flying fortress needs a starter motor so big that it CAN be the motor!? 🤯 It looked like that starter had power to spare too 😳
Does that reverse work well on an incline. The driveway to my garage is only slightly inclined slightly but it's damn near impossible to push a heavy bike up it.
I’ve got an R18. Sorry I can’t answer your question exactly BUT this may help. I have gravel in front of my garage that I have to reverse over when I get my bike out, I swing it hard left going backwards then stop, swing hard right and drive out in a forward direction. It’s all flat but it does it no problem. I’m a big guy and there’s no way I could push it back over gravel myself because for one there’s nothing to push against really. So, I would say as long as the incline is modest I expect it would do it. I’ve never activated it but I believe there is a safety cut off built into the bike, if the starter motor is over worked in reverse mode or gets too hot the ‘R’ on the dash will flash and the reverse system disables so it’s not damaged. On flat tarmac reverse isn’t needed at all IMHO.
I do wish my Rocket 3 had a reverse gear sometimes. Muscling 400 kilos backwards can be daunting, but just have to plan ahead to where it's not needed.
Can't see a way of stretching my legs out past the bulging boxer engine, though, for the long hauls. On most cruisers, you can attach an engine guard and place some pegs on them to stretch your legs out. The protruding boxer engine looks like it will prevent that mod on the bike. My extra long legs look like they will feel cramped on the R18 during a long haul.
Next time try the black dog deli on the way in, nice coffee and food said the wing foiler in your video 😅 .. my dog is gutted he didn’t make the cut .. keep on riding and making great UA-cam content
What about looking at the Panda 4x4's ? Probably cheaper than the Jimny and just look up a few videos of them off road I dare say they will feel a bit more friendly to drive like the 500 you already have.
The reverse gear is directly driven by the big starter motor, hence its very positive and direct feel and why you press the starter motor button. Simples.👍
Hey Freddie - really enjoying your videos! Thinking of taking a roadtrip up from Dorset; are there many good biking roads in your part of the world? Thanks to you an Monica; looking forward to more 👍

Love the look of it and it appears to be a real quality item. Problem as i see it is, having a low seat you need forward pegs to stretch your legs out. Minor issue of having 2 x 900cc cylinder heads in the way. Wound love it if they put that motor in a roadster style bike..
When underway it turns really well... but.... when doing tight u turns I find you need to steer like the police are trained..... you stay upright but lean the bike down into the extra slow turn..... on fast corners at extreme speed I hang off it into the turn like a normal bike..... really quite normal.... but the lean it down whilst staying upright seems a bit more exagerated thean normal in tight shopping centre car park type stuff.... but it doesn't want to stall so it soon becomes second nature.
looking very classy on that bike as well Freddie! cinematography added significantly to the elegant feel of this video. especially at the transition around 5:39

and, and......oh come on, you can't leave us hanging!
Love the look of it and it appears to be a real quality item. Problem as i see it is, having a low seat you need forward pegs to stretch your legs out. Minor issue of having 2 x 900cc cylinder heads in the way. Wound love it if they put that motor in a roadster style bike..
Excellent video. Who does the editing, Freddie or Monica?
Looking forward to this video
I hope you enjoy it, Malcolm. Have a good evening🙂
Nice village. Those cylinders stick out a bit too far for me. I'd prefer the Harley 117 Heritage, better looks, more style.
The side view of that bike and the fork rake🤪😳😳😳😳😳😳will it turn at all 😂😂
It’s extreme… but it does turn (quite well😆)
When underway it turns really well... but.... when doing tight u turns I find you need to steer like the police are trained..... you stay upright but lean the bike down into the extra slow turn..... on fast corners at extreme speed I hang off it into the turn like a normal bike..... really quite normal.... but the lean it down whilst staying upright seems a bit more exagerated thean normal in tight shopping centre car park type stuff.... but it doesn't want to stall so it soon becomes second nature.
If you have a reverse gear, you're missing 2 wheels off your car
Shocking mpg on the bonnie. my 900 gets 60 with hard riding. But the bonnie looks better than my bike!
looking very classy on that bike as well Freddie! cinematography added significantly to the elegant feel of this video. especially at the transition around 5:39
So, R18 or Rocket 3, Which does it the most for you?
