The sustain that Avi is able to do in songs like this has a lot to do with his training as an Opera/Classical major in college. That ability to hit and maintain a note without any wavering or loss is a skill that's imperative in opera in particular. On a different note, Avi just completed his third live concert today in Leuven, Belgium. The first two were in Manchester and London, and he'll be wending his way through Europe in the next 10 days or so. Feedback on the shows is through the roof...of course.
@@rlhcat7662 Avi's booking company only has him doing 1 west coast show in June - The Troubadour in West Hollywood. No San Francisco, no Portland, no Seattle. I'll be flying down to LA for that show, instead of being able to drive down to San Francisco like in 2019. There were major omissions of cities/areas in the booking of the summer tour.
I can do most of avis stuff but his sustainability is insane for him to do that long note then go back into a bass line and doing it all with little breath is amazing I can do the note and I can do the bass line together but not without taking a quick breath here and there
Kevin and Avi are having so much fun, combined with sassy Mitch made this an instant favorite for me. Holding those looooowwwww notes that long and still have enough breath for the slide at the end is stupid difficult.
Jam sessions? So much sass in this video! Purple haired Mitch was always very sassy! Actually, any color haired Mitch is a sassy sass! Love this one! Thank you for keeping up with the PTX/Superfruit/solo content! You're the best!
Avi and Kevin are friendship goals, man, and they were having so much fun with this. Your expression cracked me up when Avi started going hard on the sustains. Enjoyed it!
I love the bass bombs too. Sometimes so much is going on elsewhere you don't notice them, but you notice if they're gone! There's a lot going on in the basement.🥰
I believe what you’re describing is them singing it live on the spot. Yes they’re in a studio to record it but it’s not the produced sound you’d hear on an album or official video. They do a lot of their evolution videos the same way. Of course all their early couch videos are live too and not produced.
And their modern version of it would probably be their stairs tiktoks! I always love these for the way they can show off their talent. I personally have no problem with their more produced stuff (I know some people do) but I always appriciate a one take video like this reminding us how talented they are!
I've always considered these to be "one shots", since they did these videos all in one take. What always gets me is Kevin and Avi. How closely they work together is on full display in this one. I love the way they play off of one another. The looks between the two of them are so fun! And, as a bit of a side note, you should've heard Megan Trainor gush about this cover. She was so stoked when she heard it, it was kind of cute. Fun video, as always, man.
Avi & Kevin bonded immediately on The Sing Off, and ended up sharing an apartment to save money after that. They spent a lot of that time working out the rhythm section, and Avi gave Kevin singing lessons while Kevin taught Avi some basic beatboxing. They still refer to each other as Brother.
@@charlottevan_8 And, probably always will. From what I understand, Kevin still calls Avi, and the reverse is true, when they get stuck writing a song. Both of them being classically trained, as well as their long history with one another, helps them to know exactly how to help one another.
@@Tark-qs4mu Kevin visited Avi at his cabin in Tennessee back in the Fall and spent a couple of days there. He said Avi cooked for him and they had a blast. Maybe they'll do a collab again like they did in "Fields & Pier". Hope so.
@@Tark-qs4mu Their joint classical/operatic background, as opposed to the trio's show tune and performance choir background, I think was probably key to the groups success. They brought a different skill sets, & different mental databases of music, singing and performing techniques and I think in the beginning, those differences added to the development of the group in ways they couldn't have anticipated when they decided to find a beat boxer and a bass voice. Matt is a wonderful singer and well deserves his spot, but his background is more like the Trio and if Pentatonix had started with him, I'm not sure their success would have been as, well, successful.
I love this video. I watch it a lot. Avi's sound is addictive in this song. I call these the " couch videos". You'll see couches in their videos a lot. Also one of Avi's solo videos pays homage to the couch ( QUARTER PAST FOUR).
"Thrift Shop" is another video that I would call "raw". It is a Macklemore and Lewis cover and has LOTS of rap. You are one of my fave reactors. It's so great to be pentavalidated by YOU!!!
Thanks so much for doing this one, I absolutely love it! I would call this another glorious 1-take-live. Purple haired, sassy pants Mitch, Avi grooving so hard (that boi got rhythm!) and those crazy long bass notes.... sheesh. After watching it many times I finally realized that when Avi turns his head to the side, he's doing a fade out.
Great reaction. Everyone does that delayed recognition of what Avi is doing holding those notes. This one had a big bass part in Megan's video so nice for Avi's last couch video I believe with the band. I do hope you will continue to do Avi's solo music despite the patreon emphasis now. If you wish to there are now a couple of performances of "First Place I Go", "I Can't Lie" and "On My Way" from his Manchester and London shows that you can react to. All of these, along with "All is Well" are brand new and part of the new album being released on May 20th.
Finally a reactor who appreciates that long note by Avi (I’m not surprised though that you would). If you watch it again just watch Kevin and Avi, they are having way too much fun lol 😂
Yaaassssss! So happy you reacted to this one. It’s in my top 10 songs/covers of theirs. Sassy Mitch with his purple hair and beautiful counter tenor, Avi and Kevin with the amazing bass and beats, and Kirstie and Scott with their amazing harmonies… what more is there to say? This is why they are my favorite group of any genre. Keep the PTX reactions coming 😊
Hello Saucey Dad, Thanks for doing this. As always, Pentatonix is just superb with the arrangement, the transitions, the vocals. Mitch is superb with that smooth tone and rap and his hand movements. Avi so deep and holding that long note - three times. Kevin on the beating and all those sounds. Scott with those pop vocals. Kirstie so sharp. Hope you watch the live version of this for some great fun!
If you are talking about the person I think you are talking about, it is bc he is in this for himself wants to make himself look good and you are in this for the correct reasons, you love the music and are totally yourself!! We love you for being you!!
This one, along with O Come all ye faithful, is the most fun of all their videos. Avi's long sustained low note is even more impressive when he drops through the floor.
Awesome request Katie, now I have to find a new video for my April request LOL. I love Avi in this video. Mitch's voice is crazy. I just love everything Great reaction Thx Nick 😎 We joined because of you. You found a way to bring the Pentaholics and Home Fries together and it just grew from there. No comparing and negativity, just fun and for me getting to see new music and meet new people (and some I already know). Thx 😎
This is one of my all time favourites! So glad you reacted to this! My favourite part (apart from Mitch!) is Avi's long low notes! Incredible - I really wish they had put this (and others!) on an album. Totally agree with the 'acoutstic' videos - there is something so pleasing about seeing them together, one take, superb.
One of my favorites , and yes , they are untouchable (as the song says) !! I love the energy in this song ( esp. between Kevin and Avi) , but most of all that long low notes from Avi ....unbelievable 😍!
I have not requested this and since you started the Patreon I knew you would rightfully take those first. This is my favorite sassy mitch!! You're going to love it. I can't wait anymore.
Yay, u doing this one is prob just coincidence, not due to my suggestion to "fast pass" certain songs on ur to do list due to their awesomeness 😉 But, as I stated previously regarding this one....sassy 🦄 + strong bass = awesomeness Great reaction! 😆😆😆
Hey Dad, so did the dentist comment on your broken jaw? You know, what happens when you drop it, and it shatters while you're trying to "calmly" react to PTX. Plus, you got hit by the PTX 2x4, again. Oh, and did they ask you about the crayon pieces caught in your teeth? Enquiring minds would like to know. 😁
I agree these one-shot videos or couch videos are the best at showing Pentatonix as real and raw. There is a recorded personal performance of their Daft Punk medley but because it was recorded on a phone the sound quality is not the best, yet it still shows how great they are. They keep getting better and better. Same with Homefree - Aint going down (till the sun comes out) and Voiceplay - The Dragonborn comes Skyrim their latest hits just amazing
OK. So. Analyst on speed dial? OK then. There is an Avi Kaplan Medley, a little tribute if you will, by Bass Singers ft. Efe Sayin. Thought you might be interested since I believe that Avi has entered your awareness at some level. There's also a brief cameo from another bass singer you might know. I thought it was pretty good. Just sayin'.
