Dad, Kevin is an alien unicorn who eats a drum kit for breakfast daily. He was taught how to sing by Avi, until they discovered that he was a tenor, and then Mitch took over. Kevin was classically trained on the cello and invented celloboxing, which is what drew Scott's attention on UA-cam. Kevin also plays saxophone. Congratulations on getting KO'D. Name your helmet. You need your security helmet. Roflmfao.
Heidi, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when young Kevin announced to his parents that he was not going to medical school. He'd just graduated from Yale and had been accepted into Yale's school of medicine. I'd heard he spoke 4 languages. English, probably Yoruba as his parents had emigrated from Nigeria and were of that tribe. Also I'd heard he spoke Mandarin Chinese. What the 4th was or if he spoke more than 4 I haven't a clue. I'm not surprised he's gifted in both science and music as the two seem to compliment each other. He is also a devote Christian and again "I heard" he only agreed to join the group for the Sing Off competition and if they promised he'd never be asked to sing vulgar lyrics. They're all talented off the charts and Matt who replaced Avi had graduated Berkeley School of Music. Pentatonix chose correctly when they found those two young men. BTW, you're correct, your Dad should name his unicorn security guard.
@@orenda8220 I was randomly clicking on PTX videos a few months ago, the interview kind and found some that were where fans got to meet the families of PTX and ask questions. Someone asked his mom about what their reaction was when he, Kevin, told them. They laughed and said that they were not happy. His sister was there, and she was in pharmacy school. If I remember correctly, I think she said that Kevin was paying for her schooling. I've heard that he now speaks 7 languages.
Thanks Heidi. I know for sure that he's now able to more than pay for any education she wants. Have you seen pictures of his new baby. Beautiful little girl. I believe he married a Caucasian girl which isn't a big deal as all my 4 children, 44, 40, 40 (not twins one's adopted) and 33 year old. Was much more uncommon back then. But my dad told me if it was true love then hold on tight regardless of what the world said. Not bad for a 100% Irishman. I miss him. It'll be 10 years since he died this ST. Patrick's Day. My kid brother put it right. Our dad was a great Paddy. Died on St. Patrick's Day so we could mourn and get drunk on the same day. Not true as I actually don't like alcohol and my brother's, 1 works at the Pentagon after 22 years of active duty Army, one a Bishop is the Church of God and the youngest a devote Christian too but is a Florida State's Attorney so none of us drinks. Not a good idea to even start as nothing good comes from it in my opinion. You take care. It sounds like you've got a fantastic Saucey Mom and Dad.
@@heidifruchtl354 I was there! At PentaCon 2018 in Dallas. It was amazing. By the way, that "sister in pharmacy school"--Candace-- now has her doctorate in Pharmacy. The whole family is incredible! Kevin's dad is indeed from Nigeria but his mom is from Grenada, in the Caribbean.
Avi taught Kevin. Mitch did not "take over". Scott did not find Kevin on UA-cam Ben Bram did. They never talk much about Ben vis a vis the Sing Off because Ben being on staff at the show was a big part of their success. Ben told Scott they had to get a bass and a beatboxer. Ben knew Avi and saw Kevin online cello boxing and used his acapella connections at Yale to get Kevin's phone number. Changing history gets really bad with this group. Particularly the myth about Daftpunk.

Sorry to contradict you, but he was pre-med @ Yale. He played the saxophone at Carnegie Hall as a teen, 17, w other young musicians. Came in 2nd at a Yoyo Ma cello competition, in college, where he introduced him to cello-boxing. As to other languages, He speaks Mandarin Chinese and some Spanish as far as I know. But you're right about his being nice and I too love his laugh.
One of the lesser known facts about the cello is that it has no fret board, no way of feeling what your finger position is. Every note that comes out of it is pure muscle memory. Couple that with Kevin beatboxing while playing, using the loop station, singing, and planning out the next stages of the performance...Yep! I'd say there are a few things there to appreciate. Mix in pre-med from an Ivy League school or two, 7 languages, a performance and tour schedule that would kill most people, a wife and baby as well as the solo work he does and you have the start of who Kevin is. I can well understand being speachless. I know I sure was, the first few times I saw this.
He also worked with the young beat boxers in Scott's & Ben's AcaPop Kids and Avi's A Capella Academy! BTW - Dad needs to react to those groups! They're great! And also Scott's female group! Movin' deeper down the PTX rabbit hole 🕳! 💖

Kevin has recently become a father - you would enjoy some of his tiktoks where he tries to entertain his baby - yes he does other things, but obviously a LOT of music
Thank you for reacting to Kevin's "Down" video. He is amazing, I love him. He has some incredible music videos on his UA-cam channel. This one had his electronic cello name Mr Carter. His regular cello is named Beyonce. "Renegade" is an excellent next choice. It is an original written by Kevin. It is mostly instrumental, not singing. "All of Me" is another. Hi SD. New subscriber to your channel. As like many viewers I watched you quite a few times before deciding to subscribe. You're the same age as my youngest son and I enjoy your antics as he now lives far from home. So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend especially since he was in recovery. But there's never a good time to lose anyone, in recovery or not. I also feel a sense of not family but cultural kinship as I'm from New England too with relatives in Maine. As I live in the Southern US hearing you talk about daily experiences up there, not all good with your dad going through the ice, (he had an angel and him for sure). I can't support your channel, I would if I could, but I live on a disability pension. Plus it always seems like a child, 4 grown kids, or a grandchild, 11 of them with a twelve one soon, is having a birthday or Christmas or simply needs mom/Nana's help. I'm glad you have family close by, treasure that as all mine are scattered around the country with none living nearby. Not feeling sorry for myself. I'm well cared for and have wonderful friends here. I won't write here in comments often but please know I'm watching and will keep you and yours in my prayers..no kidding. 😇👩🦼👋 Take care
Thank you for your kind words, I truly do appreciate you! Please know the only “support” I want from any of you is simply taking the time to relax and enjoy some great tunes with me!! Take care Nana! You and yours will be in my prayers as well ❤️
@@SauceyDad thank you so much for such a nice response. Positive reinforcement, always a good method to get the reaction you want! I used to work with mostly Down Syndrome young men and women. I have a maternal ancestor who arrived in the 1620's on a ship named The Swanne. However the research my great great uncle and then my uncle picked up where his great uncle had left off in researching my maternal lineage. They found we were descendants of 6 people who arrived on the Mayflower. We're satisfied knowing that without joining some high brow club. The only on of the 6 I know the name of is a man with the last name Cooke. I believe that's the correct spelling. They never left New England and only married other established English families. Here's where my sick humor comes in, my great grandfather marries into the family telling them his dark appearance black hair and eyes was because he was Native American and French. Nope I had my DNA done, North African and Arabic! ROFLMYAO!! So guess me and my mixed heritage kids are just plain Americans, My Dad was 100% Irish, DNA proved that. I wish he here he'd feel so vindicated.. in college my English mom had to bring a note to college with pe r mission to date my Irish Catholic father!! Take care and sorry about the length. My kids call them mom's books. Be well, stay healthy and happy to your entire family. O.J.
Thanks for reacting to this one. Fun fact: even all of the other members of ptx say that Kevin is the most talented member, but Kevin is so humble he says that Mitch is. I don't know if anyone has recommended the video "Pentatonix tries to sing 100 pop songs in 10 minutes", but it's an awesome challenge that they obviously had a lot of fun doing and you can get a bit more of a sense of their personality and their ability to harmonize in a split second.
Kevin Olusola is one of those people that would be so easy to envy/hate for being so naturally talented, except that he's just a genuinely awesome person too. You can't hate somebody that kind and humble and so joyful with what he does. But damn, that's a lot of talent to pile into one person. You should see the adorable videos he makes with his daughter. PS: This is why we call Kevin's version of a Mitch Slap "being KO'd". You called it Kevin-kicked because you hadn't been properly KO'd yet. PPS: He was pre-med before he joined PTX. He said once in an interview that his parents still ask him when he's going to give up the music nonsense and go back to medical school.
Everyone else has already mentioned how talented Kevin is, and how much he has accomplished, so no need to re-iterate. But I have to say, as much as I absolutely love what every member of Pentatonix brings to the table, Kevin takes the cake when it comes to the sheer amount of talent he possesses. I actually read something, recently, that at first surprised me; but after thinking about it for a few minutes it made perfect sense. Apparently, Kevin is the only member of PTX who possesses perfect pitch. I had to look it up to understand exactly what that meant. "Perfect pitch refers to a person's ability to identify any musical note by name after hearing it, without reference to other notes. Perfect pitch-also known more technically as absolute pitch-can also refer to the ability that some singers have to sing a given note on cue." This would somewhat explain Kevin's early understanding of and success in music. It also explains part of why he's so good at what he does. Kevin is absolutely the definition of 'talented'. Oh, and his last name is pronounced, "Oh-loosh-oh-la". Basically add the 'sh' sound where the 's' is in his name. :) Once again, very entertaining reaction. I love watching how much you enjoy the music and appreciate the talent. You should really react to some more Superfruit! I HIGHLY suggest Defying Gravity. Make sure you have your unicorn!
I must say I loved watching Kevin break your brain. I thought you were going to curl up in a corner in the fetal position! Don't feel bad! I felt the same way! At least you had a unicorn to hug! 🤣
I’m assuming the distortion part is literally a distortion pedal like you’d use with an electric guitar. Those pedals can technically be used with any electric instrument set up. You should check out him playing Julie-o. I think it’s one of his first videos of celloboxing. At least it’s when videos of him started circulating among cellists.
One can see him doing something with a foot pedal as he returns to the cello -- that must be when he sets the distortion (one UA-camr, an expert on studio equipment, pointed that out in his reaction).
Wow! KO has quite the vocal range and his arrangements are so complex…he is superhuman….and he manages to fit his cello playing into any style of music…amazing 🎶❤️🌈
Thanks for another great reaction! I love Kevin Olusola and it was a treat to see you "KO"ed by Kevin as we Pentaholics call it. The cello he plays while "cello"boxing with Pentatonix he named Beyonce. The electric cello he introduced you to today was named Mr Carter by his mother. Kevin played Carnegie Hall several times as a teenager still in high school and there is an old video on You Tube of him playing the saxophone called Kevin Olusola "From The Top: Live From Carnegie Hall-2005". The performance and interview in this one are fire! There is also an old video on You Tube where he just completed his final exams for graduation from Yale pre-med and is relaxing in his dorm room cello boxing "Julio". This was the video that Scott Hoying from Pentatonix saw that made him contact Kevin to audition with them for the "Sing Off". I really like his cover of "Sign Of The Times" on his KO channel.
Dad, he played saxaphone at Carnagie Hall at 17 (the video is on youtube if you want to watch), speaks Mandarin, and was pre-med. Before PTX, he was most known for his cello boxing. He didn't even know he could really sing till PTX asked him if he could. Avi started teaching him, and he's utterly amazing. He has a ton of videos on his channel of these types of arrangements.
indeed, Kevin is not of this Earth. he, along with the rest of PTX, were sent to this planet to bless us with the gift of music and they have never disappointed. you have also not disappointed with your reaction haha ❤️
Yay!!!😄😄😄so glad you FINALLY got to this!!!thank you!great reaction, knew you'd be blown away!!😃 I second Spidergirls Mama with the recommending of PTX Can't Hold Us and Love Again next!!!you won't be disappointed. You will absolutely love them both, but if you liked the Daft Punk medley you will really enjoy Love Again.simular feel and great make up!!!😃thanks again, you rock dude!!🤘peace out✌
I guess you can see why I call him Special K! And this is just his musical talent! And if you enjoy being amazed, check out Kodi Lee's audition on AGT. Your commercial at the end was way better than the superbowl commercials. You should get an agent!
Great reaction and thank you for doing this. Next please, please, please do "Renegade", or if you just want to you could watch him speaking fluent Mandarin on the sing off China, playing amazing saxophone at Carnagie Hall his Sr. Year of High School, his Yale career, or him just being one of the truly greatest human beings on Earth. A little know fact, his Christian religion prevents him from working on Friday so PTX never does a Friday concert even though it is one of the most profitable days to have one. The other members thought this was going to be a problem at first but now they absolutely love it since it gives them Friday time with their loved ones. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
When I saw you reacted to KO, I had to watch! I love this one the most (so far). Yours is one of my favorite reactions to this! It’s like you had to watch in small sections because it totally was blowing your mind! He is super talented, and I absolutely love his voice! He has such a rich and buttery tone to his voice! Love it! What he does with his beatboxing, the looper and his electric cello is beyond imagination! Crazy good! Looking forward to seeing you react to more of KO!
KO and his looping & electric cello get me every time, doesnt matter how many times i see it!! and i believe his last name is pronounced more like o-LU-shola :^)
Kevin says that by the time he was 3 years old he was already driving his father insane constantly "making noise". He said he can remember his father turning around in the car and asking him to please stop making noise for just a few minutes. It was driving him insane lol

Best reaction ever for an amazing artist ❤️
I think you were KOd. This man is a musical genius! As for you, Nick, we need to send Crayons! 🖍 😉
Ahh, Saucy, you've fallen down diditty down down and you can't get up lol...he's amazingly fantastic!!
Kevin is absolutely incredible. He is extremely talented. Such a gift to artistry and hummanity! Love this!
That's a great video! 💖
Just think what we all would have lost if he had decided to stay in Pre-Med at Yale instead of joining Pentatonix.
I thoroughly enjoyed this reaction. Few reactors give Kevin the respect he deserves. He is so underrated. Thank you for this!
There a couple interviews with Kevin when PTX was in Hong Kong and he was speaking fluent Chinese.
I posted one for him about an hour after you may this comment.
If you like the cello check out his version of "All of Me". He shows off another skill in this one: Cloning.
I’m pretty sure that’s NOT the magic stick 50 was referring too, but GOOD ONE!! 😂
Yes! Absolutely do Renegade! Other great ones are Human Nature, Don't Dream It's Over, Adele Medley, and Sign of the Times.
I love when he goes into what I like to call Metal Cello.
I must say I loved watching Kevin break your brain. I thought you were going to curl up in a corner in the fetal position! Don't feel bad! I felt the same way! At least you had a unicorn to hug! 🤣
There is just no describing his talent. It gets me every time and I get so excited when people react to it.
I loves me some KO and this is one of my all time favs, his smile at the end is like a ray of light too.
Wow! KO has quite the vocal range and his arrangements are so complex…he is superhuman….and he manages to fit his cello playing into any style of music…amazing 🎶❤️🌈
Kevin and Pentatonix never disappoints their fans
Kevin, Kevin, Kevin!! He is incredible. We all are amazed by the genius of this man. My absolute favorite KO performance.
Gives me chills every time.
You should check out KOver's "sign of the times" I love it. He is literally the most talented person on the planet.
"Spirit fingers....!!!!" That reaction was hilarious.
AND he's married with a beautiful baby girl.
I love your reactions. Kevin is amazing and so talented! You are so funny!
indeed, Kevin is not of this Earth. he, along with the rest of PTX, were sent to this planet to bless us with the gift of music and they have never disappointed. you have also not disappointed with your reaction haha ❤️
Loved the reaction it was awesome. The look on your face when he started beat boxing lol
Nothing in the world like KO! Talent personified.
Yay!!!😄😄😄so glad you FINALLY got to this!!!thank you!great reaction,knew you'd be blown away!!😃
I second Spidergirls Mama with the recommending of PTX Can't Hold Us and Love Again next!!!you won't be disappointed. You will absolutely love them both, but if you liked the Daft Punk medley you will really enjoy Love Again.simular feel and great make up!!!😃thanks again, you rock dude!!🤘peace out✌
Glad you did kevin solo, there is so much more
Can you imagine? A duet-collab between Kevin & Mitch? What that would sound like?
I dream of it.
I guess you can see why I call him Special K! And this is just his musical talent!
And if you enjoy being amazed, check out Kodi Lee's audition on AGT. Your commercial at the end was way better than the superbowl commercials. You should get an agent!
Could not click this fast enough. 🔥🔥👏🏻👏🏻🔥🔥
You have now officially been KO’d. 🤙🏻
I have just seen this! Have not watched yet! I think this one may kill or maim you! I will comment again after watching! If you're alive, you know! 😉
You've been KO'd by Kevin. Such an incredibly talented young man.
Let us know what everybody you show this to says!😂 seriously, we want to know!😁
His others are amazing too. Sign of the times is my favorite
As you said in another video, the least everyone can do is subscribe cos you’re gonna need $$ for therapy at this rate 😂
He is wonderful. Such talent
Add to the fact, this was done in ONE TAKE!, LIVE! 🤣
Oh Lord! The helmets back! Hahaha!
I almost spit out my tea when you asked if it was the magic stick 🤣🤣🤣
KO and his looping & electric cello get me every time, doesnt matter how many times i see it!! and i believe his last name is pronounced more like o-LU-shola :^)
Dudes got talent literally for days!!!
I love me some KO!!!!
He also plays saxophone.
Kevin says that by the time he was 3 years old he was already driving his father insane constantly "making noise". He said he can remember his father turning around in the car and asking him to please stop making noise for just a few minutes. It was driving him insane lol
One of the best reactions to Down Down that I’ve seen!! Just awesome!!!
Best reaction I have seen and I’ve watched a lot because Kevin’s cover is so Amazing.
LOVED your reaction! I was speeches as well. I am so happy to have been KO'd 🥰
You just gained another subscriber 😍
