Superfruit did this song in response to the worst mass shooting in American history: the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando Florida where 49 (mostly Latino) young men and women were gunned down while enjoying a night of dancing in a gay club and another 53 were injured. The lyrics of this song is meant to show the resilience of the gay community in the face of such hate.

Yes, this. But... more than just his Creep performance there (it's short for the competition) you should also look into Brian Justin Crum's UA-cam series "Divas". And, one which is "subversively sublime" is Brian Justin Crum performing "You Oughtta Know" by Alannis Morisette... in the original key. Worth a listen.

The vocals are breathtaking but that level of passion is due to mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Florida that year. From the description in the official video: "We decided to make this video with some of our closest friends in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and all of our fans who love unconditionally and see no barriers."
I believe Brian was on a singing competition. Mary is a singer/songwriter and worked with Mackelmore on "Same Love" and Mario is a close friend PTX. He was some kind of assistant on tour at one point. I believe PTX gave him the opportunity to open for them and he went on with his singing career from there.
Please watch LPs "Lost On You", then revel at Scott's mastery of arrangement vision when he decided to slow the song down and lay it on top of a Hans Zimmer track. The duet between Scott and Mario is so moving.

BUT FIRST, react to the original artist LP singing “Lost On You”. Her voice is so interestingly unique. Plus, I think it might have you even more impressed with Scott and Mario’s arrangement of her song.

I think it’s important to understand this is a tribute to those murdered at the Pulse nightclub in Florida because they were gay. All of these folk are members of the LGBTG+ community. The letter attached to this on Superfruit is lovely. I cry when ever I listen to this.
This was done in memory of the shooting that took place at the gay night club in Maimi Fl few years back. all these guys are part of the lbgtq* community. great tribute, you were right on your guess, he was on Americas got talent, and Mario and scott have been friends a long time...Brian did find me someone to love, and he also did creep on americas got talent

Brian did an UNBELIEVABLE job on Creep. That is something you should check out
My takeaway from all of these is really just that Mitch and Scott can harmonize and sing with *anyone.* I watch their duets and always remember how bad so many group performances on American Idol were and how the judges always said that being able to sing *with* other people is a completely different skill than just being able to sing. And Mitch and Scott did it all the time with guests on the Superfruit vlog, too, when they'd have even non-singers join in singing their "goodbye" at the end.

As for singing cometitions I believe Mary Lambert is the only one in this that wasn't on one. (she is proabably best known for the collaborations with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis)
Scott and Mitch were of course on The Sing-Off with the rest of PTX, which they won. (Scott also auditioned for American Idol, but didn't get on the show and he was on Starsearch as a teenager)
Brian was on AGT and Mario was on American Idol
Mary also tried out for American Idol but didn't make it.
Mario Jose was also on The Sing-Off" for season two. He was a member of Pitch Slapped (from Berklee College of Music). A few years later, Matt Sallee was a member of Pitch Slapped also (Mario had graduated before Matt arrived at Berklee).
Brian Justin Crumb was on AGT, and had some amazing performances. Queen’s’Somebody to Love’ and ‘Creep’ were my favs. I believe Mario was also on a talent show, but I don’t know which. He was a tour staff for PTX, and has opened for them, and performed with Scott before. All three of them are soloists, just together for this performance. As others have said, this was a tribute piece, and all 5 are part of the lgbtq community.
Mario was on season 2 of the sing off but of course with a group so he probably wouldn’t stand out as much as if he’d been on one by himself. He was also on American idol but didn’t make it past Hollywood week.
Please listen to Scott and Mario singing Lost on you. Scott arranged it over Hans Zimmers track and it’s genius.
First, at the time of this video Scott was around 25, so there is still time for his hair to self-destruct, Second, if you like the reality talent competitions, I'm sure you know by now that PTX competed on a show called "The SingOff" but did you know that the show performances are available on UA-cam? A gentleman known for some reason as Mrduckbear11 has them on his channel with each competitor's performances in separate videos and numbered for your convenience. And they don't seem to get blocked.
Yes play the PTX sing off. It’s so great. 12 episodes. You’ll get to see their beginnings and need your unicorn for several performances. If you do play the sing off please include judges comments
Mary became known by collaborating with Macklemore on "Same Love". She then took her lyrics from that song and put out her own video, "She Keeps me Warm", which was a beautiful video.

I live in Orlando about 2 miles from Pulse. I can’t get through this one with dry eyes. Sorry Katy, but Superfruit & Friends own this song now. Brian Justin Crum was on AGTalent and absolutely slayed a cover of Creep-He has a full version of the song on his channel. Mario worked on one of the PTX tours and eventually opened for them on tour.

Brian Justin Crum was on AGT. Mario was part of the PTX crew and he opened for them a few times. Mary is from Seattle and has worked with macklemore. I'm from the Seattle area myself, and have worked in the same area.
Mary is an under appreciated gem!
@SauceyDad: Brian I believe has been on Broadway. He did sing a duet from a Broadway show called "Sideshow" with Kyle Dean Massey. The song is about a set of Siamese twins. The song is "Who will Love me as I am". He and Kyle POWER through it. It's worth a listen.

This song is so heart-rending and powerful. Such a great response by wonderful humans to a horrific situation caused by deeply flawed humans. Your reactions are tops! (PTX) and The Promise (a cover by SuperFruit that, as I understand it, was the last song they performed together as SuperFruit with special guest, Adam Rippon). Brian as others have said was AGT and Champions, Mario was beside touring with PTX auditioned for American Idol. Mary was sampled by Macklemore don't believe she's been on any "show"

Can you please read the description box on their video, this was in response to the Pulse Night club shooting.
Like many other things, you gotta train it, train your hair. This is done by initially using a lot of "product" (gel, mousse, sculpting mud, etc.) until it's trained, then you use less and less, then your hair just does it on it's own.

That's the same face I had when I heard Brian sing for the first time! it's sooooo good the face contorts.. then just turns into ugly crying because they are all so brilliantly gifted.
All 5 singers are members of the LGBTQ+ community, and yes, this was *their* response to the Pulse massacre.
Last Saturday a murderer tried to recreate that horror at Club Q, in Colorado Springs. This time we got lucky; there was a hero present who ran *toward* the gunman rather than away, and who actually managed to take the gunman down, so we "only" lost 5. One was the mother of an 11 year old boy. 😢
I first heard about Club Q on Sunday, just before attending the Penatonix concert in Denver. Scott spoke about it at the concert, about how queer clubs are meant to be safe places for the LGBTQ+ community, along with their families, friends, and allies. And about the shock when that safe place is suddenly no longer safe. Then we had a moment of silence for the five we lost, and Pentatonix pledged a large amount of money to help the survivors and the families.
And on Monday I found myself compulsively listening to *this* powerful and empowering performance, and to reactions to it. It is now the wee hours of Thursday morning, Thanksgiving Day, and I'm still at it. It's looking like a bleek Thanksgiving this year, but this song helps. It's going on my permanent playlist.

Nope. Mario was actually a tour manager for PTX and they adore Mario and his voice so much that they asked him to open for them in Baltimore so his parents could see him perform. Not sure how Mary got her start although I did see her perform in concert several years ago.

You should really check out clips from The Sing-Off - in my opinion, the best singing competition that's been on network tv. Pentatonix had their beginnings from participating in and winning season 3. Home Free won season 4 and that helped them build a far larger fanbase than they would have achieved otherwise. Even Voiceplay and Peter Hollens are Sing-Off alumni.

They came together the day before the audition, had a bit of time together between then and the series starting but not much, so you really see them figure out who they are as a group over the course of the series. And the effect the judges comments have on their development.

Everyone else has already filled you in on where BJC, Mario and Mary made their starts, so I won't reiterate that info. I will say, though, that I watch the talent shows for EXACTLY the same reason you mentioned. There's just something so satisfying and uplifting about watching people doing what's needed to make their dreams come true. It's almost like enjoying an underdog story. Brian absolutely blew me, and everyone else, away with his very moving and creative cover of Radiohead's 'Creep'. Definitely something you should react to! He can initiate a 'Mitch slap' reaction for most people. GREAT reaction. So glad you got around to this one!
