  • Welcome back guys! Here's my review of the 2024 Mazda CX-5 Turbo in Soul Red! It's a pretty sweet CUV and a great competitor to the Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav-4, and the Subaru Forester!

    I have a 2024 Turbo Signature. I’m 47 and this is by far the most enjoyable car I’ve ever had. It’s so much fun to drive. I’m a big guy - 6’2”, 250, and it has plenty of room for me in the driver’s seat. The back seat is lacking in leg room, but I don’t have kids so it doesn’t bother me at all. If I could make any changes, I’d wish for the steering wheel to heat all around instead of just at 9 and 3, for 2-3 more inches of leg room in the back, for the center console to be slightly longer, and for the cup holder to be slightly larger so it could fit my 26 oz Yeti. These are all very trivial things. I really love the Caturra Brown leather in the signature model. I have zero buyers remorse.

      Thanks for sharing your turbo trim level experience! They seriously are such sweet cars, to many more enjoyable miles! 🍻

    The CX5 is a great suv to have a fun driving experience! I will take a fun ride over a couple of MPG’s any day! Very reliable and well built!

    Very thorough review! One of my neighbors has a CX50 in that soul red color and it’s very striking in person..and I normally don’t like red on a car.

    If I wasn't going to be taking my suv off-road on a regular basis, I think this is the vehicle I would buy.

      I get that! Every time I’ve driven one of these (especially the turbo) I’ve left it wanting it. They just feel like such solid cars.

    I have a black 23 cx5 turbo. Fantastic suv. I switched out the crappy stock tires with Bridgestone Weatherpeaks. Drives great in all conditions.

    My wife has a 2020 Sport, great car so far, faultlessly reliable, the NA engine has good off the line response, but it does get winded at highway speeds, as far as driving dynamics, easily better than any of its peer group. I recently installed a set of Michelin Primacy tires which makes it near luxo brand quiet over the road. Even though the design is now 7 years old it's still very handsome. I am looking to cross shop a used Turbo S with a base AWD RDX and Lincoln Corsair later this year.

    No auto-stop-start on the turbo versions is another great thing about these.

      You’re right! I’m glad Mazda didn’t tack that feature on, especially as an afterthought.

      I don’t think they have it either, but I can’t remember for certain…😅🤷‍♂️

      According to the feature comparator on the Mazda website, the 2024 non-turbo trims are supposed to have i-stop (stop start) and cylinder deactivation. However, it notes that some of them may not have those "features" due to supply chain shortages. So the non-turbos may be a box of chocolates.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  3 місяці тому

      Oh that’s right, Mazda calls it I
      i-stop. I did a lot of Mazda CX-5 and CX-30 reviews last year when i was starting out and some of them had missing features so i could remember for sure. Thanks for doing some digging!

    The most detailed review yet I’ve seen although I wish somebody would measure the “ step up “ distance .As a senior looking at this class of SUV as my “ retirement vehicle “ I’d like to know how much the distance is from the ground to the door sill. ( and what about the competition? ) Why don’t reviewers talk about the verbal commands available? Explaining how Apple CarPlay “ suspends “ some of the Mazda commands would be good to know . Is the rear cargo cover standard or an extra option ? How difficult is it to get the spare tire out with the sub woofer on top of it ? Why doesn’t anyone do a speed test in manual mode when there is more control ?

    It still looks fresh! The 6-speed auto is ok for daily driving but a few extra gears would help with both acceleration and fuel efficiency.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, absolutely! It seems to be bullet proof, but maybe an 8 speed with the top two being over drive gears would help both low speed acceleration and top speed fuel economy!

    Great car. Great review. That back seat not laying flat is an issue. Did you have the front seat set for someone at about six feet when you showed the back seat catching on the front seat? I wonder if the head rests can be removed.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks! I appreciate you watching. If I remember correctly the back head rests caught the front seat from my driving position at just under 6’. I filmed this a few weeks ago so I don’t remember specifically but I would think they have the typical button to remove them.

    • @cbeech1631
      @cbeech1631 4 місяці тому

      Thanks. I wonder if the new edition slated for 2025 (some say) will address that issue. They might have to make the car an inch or two longer or move the back seats an inch or two back. I don't think the CX-50 has that issue.

    • @keithridgeway985

      I have a 2024. I remove the headrests when I need to put the seat down so it doesn’t get caught on the front seat. It’s annoying, but I rarely put them down so I’m okay with it.

    Have you tried the CX50? We are deciding between that and a 25 Forester for a new car because we like what both offer despite their differences. If you have, do you find the CX50 spacious enough to car camp in?
    Thanks again for your informational videos!

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  11 днів тому +1

      Yeah, I think I’ve driven and reviewed either 2 or 3, with the most recent video being the best quality one I’ve done. I’m not the biggest fan. The 50 just isn’t my style even though I think it’s cool being wide and low. If it’s suppose to be a street performance looking SUV it needs more power. I really like the CX-5, but it’s also a bit smaller in the rear. We considered a CX-5, but actually just recently took delivery of a 2025 Forester Premium, which I shared the unveiling video of this morning. Best of luck in whatever you guys decide to do! 🙂

    I think you would be remiss not to look at Mazda. Or, Toyota, Honda & Subaru if shopping for blue collar anything. Between them is a full gambit of size, style and price. If you cannot find something in that market then you might have to much money $$. In which case enjoy that Maserati Lavante.

    Honestly, way it's equipped (that trim level), it's a Luxury Crossover.
    Just no Luxury badge. Should last many long years if properly taken care of.
    Doubt anyone will tow anything with it, and I'm sorry but 2,000 pound capacity is very light. We're talking a very basic tear-drop trailer or a soft fabric folding tent trailer. Would prefer it if this Mazda could handle a folding, hard-top A-frame trailer. Technically it can, but you're knocking on the upper limit of 2,000 pounds. Definitely not good for the vehicle. Too much wear and tear in a short amount of time. It'll do it but it'll be struggling.
    Everyone considering the CX-5 should take a very long and hard look at the CX-30. Especially if their budget is a bit tight. That one isn't rated to tow anything. But then again, the vast majority of CX-5 buyers won't tow anything anyway.

    • @AutomotiveAnonymous208
      @AutomotiveAnonymous208  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, you’re absolutely right! I’ve never acknowledged a CX-5 towing in the wild like I have most other crossovers. But it could be useful for a hitch rack for storage or bikes or to tow a power wheelchair for someone, light weight things like that which won’t fit in the smaller interior.

      I doubt that. I'm 6' 2." Yeah, you do have to duck your head a bit more. But nothing too excessive.
