Hetfield did make fun of Layne too, there's a video of Metallica starting to play man in the box and Hetfield pretends he's sticking a needle in his arm. Taking shots at AIC for missing their tour due to Layne's addiction. He did end up getting a shoe thrown at him though

I came to Nirvana after The Cure, too, as I only listened to the alternative music radio station. I was at University when SLTS came out. It was a defining moment.

Visting a friend in SF went to AIC at the Warfield theater. Midway through we looked to the left and right there, with all us pleabs was Hetfield rocking out! I nodded and he smiled and I had to do a whatfor as I nudged my buddy! He was there for 20 minutes or so then came "Would!" Not sure if that was first ever colab or not, but super cool!

Oh yeah. Everyone was rock until Nirvana came out. It was so simple and different yet loaded with emotion and so obviously insanely deep, great and wide.

AIC Facelift was literally the first CD I bought, after seeing Man in the Box on MTV. This was appx a year before Nevermind IIRC. To this day AIC remains one of my top favorite bands, even moreso than Nirvana.
Facelift really is a revolutionary album!

18:00 Ditto to this conversion mark. I was at home in my room watching MTV. I did heard from friends about some band called Nirvana. I waited for that premier video! Musically, when I saw Smells like teen spirit, it blew my mind! I was, at this time into all the metal and rock stuff, especially Thrash metal. I had gone alternative music in November of 1989, with Depeche Mode. And Techno rave. But Nirvana change everything... what rock I new, died that fall of 1991. The album change my life and my musical trajectory.... still to this day!

AIC was a metal band IMHO
When I was a kid in the early 90s, my older cousin was a drummer in a metal band, and he would turn me on to a lot of music I didn't know about. I remember we would listen to the Nevermind album in his car, along with Pearl Jam, Metallica, Alice in Chains, etc...

3:15 Metal, black, Hard rock, Glam from the 60s to the 80s, these bands never got along. Compare to Grunge and New metal, during and after the 1990s, these bands even wore other bands concert T-Shirts! Also, there were more women bands in Grunge and Alternative Rock!

You were right Charles they made fun of Layne when he backed out of the one tour. And during Metallica's set they made fun of Layne so badly about his drug use. It was horrible Charles and so sad. Great episode tonight by the way. Love when you have these but I love everything from your channel and the hard work. And what a fantastic article. I remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard Smells Like Teen Spirit. I was at the mall at the arcade and it came over the sound system and I immediately went to Sam Goody and bought Nevermind and listened to it until the cassette tape inside the tape casing was so stretched out and I went and bought another copy. Along with screaming trees.

I first saw Beastie Boys when MTV came out. My big brother took me to the local music store....I did the same thing with my tape. Once it snapped...he took me to get another one. I later on once I turned 22, in 2 yrs. went to 5 beastie boys concerts! Best time of my life seeing them. Thierry concerts are insanely fun! I lived in Seattle at the timemalso.
Funny you say that about Matt. I saw him waiting for his daughter while shopping in Uwajimaya market downtown Seattle. I was the only one that recognized him. Lol

ppl were pissed at Hetfield(same show w/Kurt clip)bc was making fun of Staley miming shooting up and shitting on him for being too "sick" to play the show, altjough I still love Metallica and have seen them lots over the yrs(2019 last time) I was a little salty over the Layne thing when I saw it bc Staley is my favorite vocalist, has been since 1991 ✌🏻

Metallica and Alice In Chains have been friends for years...at Alice in chains mtv unplugged, the reason mike Inez had "friends don't let friends get friends haircuts" on his bass, was to poke fun at Metallica, who were sitting in the front row.
The clip of Alice In Chains and Hetfield was shocking. Hetfield definitely was an asset to the sound of the group. He added a heavier guitar sound that went so well with AIC! And that voice! He's a natural.

And as was leaving to go to next van to write it feel in and woukd drowned if my two friends never jumped in
And others got rope around me and dragged me out partailly straggling me
One of my mates ended up with PTSD still feel responsible for that to this day
I'm still here though suffice to say Kurt never received my letter 😀

Hello you two. This looks good. Alice in chains is a great example of gona be a metal type but they chose the right path. Such a great genre of music. Jerry is still such a humble lovely Person in interviews. I love Linkin Park too. Metallica are pricks. What they done to Layne playing a bit of their song while pretending to jag there arm since AIC had to pull out. That was off. I love how Layne pushed Jerry to do more saying their Your songs too. No ego. Love it.
Jerry didn't even want to sing until Layne pushed him. Good point.
I know he's not a "grunge" drummer, but Jimmy Chamberlin. There can't be a list of the top 90s drummers without his name being mentioned.

Yeah its called a rim shot. Throwing in a little extra beat it could be used in a time signature like 5/4 time. But since the song is not in that time signature those little extra beats adds a bit of syncopation and interest to a song

Funny how AIC and Soundgarden sounded more alike compared to Nirvana. But the genre termed Grunge came out of Nirvana when they were trying to explain the sound that Nirvana was making at the time.

Danny Carey is arguably the best drummer.... but what about Jimmy Chamberlin?? He's a monster on the drums!! It's hard to pick the best drummer without being biased on choosing the drummer from the band you like the most.
Being a drummer myself, I judge drummers by whether I can play there stuff or not. I can duplicate anything Dave grohl has done but there's plenty of stuff by Danny and Jimmy that I can't do. Not well, anyways.

I went to Seattle in 06 for that A. I. C. reunion/benefit show for the tsunami benefit. I met Jerry C. And Chris C.... Was amazing having Phil Anselmo, Wes Scantln and others. Sir mix Alot and Heart opened. As far as Kurdt goes He was the least amount of grunge out of all the bands. Yeah never mind and bleach was okay albums incesticide as well but in utero was amazing now that was grunge all the other stuff is just straight bubblegum pop. AIC and Soundgarden were the definition of the main acts. Best of all Mr Ed Vedder. By the way I had come all the way from Chicago to see that show

Dave Grohl did state in an interview somewhere, years and years ago, that Taylor was a way better drummer than he is. I do think Dave’s style - his aggressive trashy punk energy - was a perfect match for Kurt’s songs though. Nirvana wasn’t truly Nirvana until he joined.
If layne was alive, jerry would be richer!! 😂 but they gotta be making good money on merch right?
