Ricardo Lopez's Perfect Boxing Explained |Ricardo Martinez Inspiration| Technique Breakdown

- Ricardo Lopez has a 51-0 record with a 75 percent knockout rate, and while that would be very impressive for a heavyweight, Foreman has about an 85 percent knockout rate for example, Lopez pulled this off while weighing close to a hundred pounds.
But Lopez was no mere knockout artist. In fact, it was a major upset if he happened to lose a few rounds in an otherwise flawless fight. His style even inspired the character of Richardo Martinez in the phenomenal boxing anime Hajime No Ippo. And don’t worry, we willl be taking a look at a few elements that the show happened to get spot on.
Whether you’re talking about the real life Lopez or his anime counterpart, watching Lopez in the ring is to watch a true master of his craft. A master who happened to be amazing at every single aspect of boxing. Put simply, the man had no weaknesses.

When Martinez was sparing with Ippo before the Martinez vs Date fight, they explained a concept about how boxers and other martial artists develop an instinct to read an upcoming punch from the slight movement of the shoulders so that they can counter, parry or just dodge the attack. There was a scene where they explained that Martinez's shoulder and his hand(from shoulder to the elbow) doesn't makes even the slightest of movement before throwing a punch which makes his punches almost impossible to perceive and adds to his amazing punching speed. I've been practising martial arts for many years and i became interested in Boxing after i watched hajime no ippo, i must admit the anime showed a great deal of realistic explanations regarding the concepts of the fist. This concept is as real as it gets because I've noticed this in my fights and mastering this tactic is very very tough.
Hey Sarthak, may I ask you what is your country of origin? I'm just curious, thank you.
You should watch the documentary of finito lopez its in Spanish but it said that for a month all he did was throw the jab over and over until his coach said he wasn't telegraphin then he learned his 2 and 3s and so on. I got into boxing about 16 yrs ago because I spared a boxer and I was a tkd guy he seemed to know when I was gonna punch and he had better balance i learned boxing because of these two things and became a better kicker now I dont just move in an out now boxing game me a multi dimensional way of looking at boxing. I think all martial arts should take the boxing approach of teaching technique.
the secret of lopez was the move of his legs.. he moves the legs like "he will trow a heymaker" and the enemy boxer knows this..but he receive a liver blow..so they can't even know what move will do lopez. U can see in the anime with a single jab over ippo how he wanna evade the jab..and just receive it with the doble impact. That's the same what happen when they see his legs moves and prepare for it..just to get nukked in other part of the body.
Hajime No Ippo is one of the few sports anime where all their special moves are actual boxing techniques, just a little visually and auditory amped up
Take a look at Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do. He goes in depth about telegraphing punches.

I’ll never forget how true this was: someone I think on BoxingScene posted that Ricardo’s only flaw was that he was 105lbs and not 135. If he were even 10lbs heavier he could have fought stiffer competition. But Ricardo dominated his class even at his mid-30s in a weight class where guys are finished at 30 years old.
Maybe if he had weighted more he would had to change his fighting style? Boxing is a game of inches after all and he was heavy-reliant on movement.
That was me bro, i love this post.! He was too fast he was too skilled, hit too hard, and his iq was a balance between rithym and force. His only flaw was he was so small. He loved god honored his parents. Everything a warrior would want to ever be.
@@BOSSG0718 You're right, he was a great fighter, he loved god and honored his parents but also he is a smart person, he gives motivational talks about his life and career, once I attended to one of them, he said that when he was a kid his parents would ask him to read books, if he was able to answer their questions about the book, they would let him be a boxer, he always answered correctly lol.
@@MrTigracho I'm not sure about that since it's around super welterweight where you wouldn't really ever see that movement in a fighter. Look at Leonard and Whitaker. Heavier fighters who maintained beautiful movement and defense even as they moved up in weight (mainly Whitaker).

Perhaps your very first knowledge about Mexico or Mexican culture was in school, or on television, or from your parents or other relatives or friends or in some other way?
The reason for asking you these strange questions is because we as Mexicans are by far the most patriotic and culturally proud people for our country and our culture and our history more so than any other nationality on Earth. Trust me on this, our love for Mexico is like a religion for us. It's that extreme. However, we do recognize all of Mexico's economic and social problems which is a result of our corrupt Mexican government which is mostly responsible for all of Mexico's problems. But the latter is for another time.
As a result of our extreme patriotism we absolutely love when we see people from other countries and other races that have any personal interest in our country and our culture. In your case our Mexican boxers. It means more to us than you can possibly imagine. It is an extreme honor to see foreign people enjoying anything relating to our culture or with our people.

To Deontay Wilder fans....it's more to boxing then right hands and KO'S. Boxing is a science and art.
@Taren Mackey I'm a REAL BOXING FAN. Every fight doesn't have to be a KO. Sometimes I LOVE when someone strategically takes away another's skills with THEIR skills. When sometimes a fighter is just better tactically. When sometimes a fighter has more HEART. I've seen drunk MFs knockout people, sooo...
@Taren Mackey Do I sound a casual now ? Hell, THATS the ONLY fight I gave credit for setting up a good right hand. Been a fight fan for 35+ years. I watched plenty of strategic fights and brutal KO's to enjoy the sport.
erikcarrillo33 You would be surprised at the amount of Wilder fans that are pretty closed minded, you aren’t one of them but go to the comment sections of videos featuring him in a positive light and you would see what I mean.
Yeah Marciano fans too!
@erikcarrillo33 I like KO's as much as the next guy. In fact , seeing a young Tyson destroying guys got me into boxing in the 80's. But it was the HOW he did it that intrigued me. He would work his way to the inside, destroy the body with hooks. And then when the body gave way, he would go to the head with more hooks and uppercuts. Very strategically. Wilder is the KING of wild, blind punches.
If you watched pretty much any Don King PPV in the 90's, then you had the privilege of watching this absolute master. A legend who isn't talked about as often as he should be when conversations about the greatest p4p fighters come about. Also a very intellectual man inside and outside the ring. Spent most of his free time reading. I believe he's a motivational speaker now.

I have learnt so much from watching your videos. Your break downs help me appreciate the artistry, tactics and the different skills used in boxing. You have increased my understanding of this sport, and my admiration for the masters. When i was a child growing up in the 70's i had a Muhammed Ali doll, that I have kept to this day. Was waiting for this video, and as always, well covered. Loved Lopez as a boxer, the man was just a total package, clean, compact, elegant, quick but with power. Such a treat to watch.
"Strength + speed = power" - Ricardo (Finito) Lopez. He used to say this a lot on his interviews in México.
I love watching fighters like him and Dempsey using semi unorthodox footwork thats efficient more than complex to simply outwork their opponents. His use of distance and pivoting to maintain his preferred position rather than shuffling with his opponents is phenomenal
In the early 90's my late father talked about how refined this guy's boxing was. I didn't know about boxing but as I grew older became one of my favorite sports, I see about everything my father and my stepfather talked about. Truly a joy to watch boxing from the perspective of a tactical war.
I really liked your video. I have watched it a few times. It is very neatly narrated. I loved when you said "after rounds and rounds of trying to get inside, you finally get your wish, only to discover that at your preferred range, he's better than you there too."

Wonderful breakdown! You know your analysis has me thinking. I know a lot of people don’t like the squared stance and some even drill to train it out of you but Lopez showed how the squared stance can prove to be a useful tool in the arsenal of a master. His lunging rights had him open for counters but he would cleverly initiate the initial lunge from an orthodox stance, fire off the right and quickly transition to a squared stance as he’s landing to suddenly become more mobile and avoid return fire. Brilliant athleticism and a crafty method to keep yourself safe. Great analysis from your part as well for pointing that out.

A flawless fighter with no weaknesses, a perfect record, and a ridiculously high knockout rate - why doesn't he rank higher on pound for pound lists?
It may be because of the quality of his weight class at the time he competed.
As fenomenal a fighter can be, he can only be as great as the quality of whom he has overcamed can testify.
This is why Ali is considered the greatest of his division despise having losed up to 6 times. He more than made up for it with his subsequent victories.

Lopez reminds me a lot of willie pep not neccesarily because of their styles but because thier arsenal seems so wide and vesitile and uses so many different techniques together one after another while i honestly struggle incorperating one of them into a spar with good resultes. i don't think that makes them perfect fighters though, i believe that if you can outdo them in at least 1 range that can make a fight but you can't really deny that the complexity in their styles trying to be great at everything does pay off. and a lot at that.
That's just disrespect, Lopez was a technically better boxer than Muhammad Ali. For one, he didn't rely on clinching to create space. Also, did you watch the video? Willie Pep's offense, like Ali's was incredibly limited compared to Lopez's flexible offense. Both Willie Pep and Ali were outboxers, Lopez was a boxer-puncher in the vein of Salvador Sanchez. In fact, I don't think there's been another boxer nearly as technically gifted as Lopez.
You know I am going to start training like this now.
Been using this style for my sparring recently.
The bounce and crouching stuff is stupid effective on closing distance on these long boys at my gym
Keep working at it bro
Adolfo Del Real thanks man, this stuff is really effective
Ricardo Lopez video and Salvador sanchez video wow this channel is really good ima subscribe
So f-ing underrated! His footwork alone is so f-ing dirty and NEVER let him down. He was always the better boxer in every single match he was in, not just on paper but visually as well. I've never seen him get overwhelmed by any boxer. Such a legend
The devil is leading many to hell but Jesus Christ died for your sins in hopes you would go to heaven but you have to repent and ask for forgiveness. To not go to hell and to go to heaven you must be saved by the work of the cross and put your faith in Jesus. Jesus Christ defeated the devil and gives us a chance to repent because he loves us.

Mr. Ricardo Lopez, Julio Cesar Chavez and Salvador Sanchez were like Batman and Superman to me. the heroes who could do anything. and ended the bad guys. what memories .... when I was just a child ...
You can tell Finito Lopez was a huge influence on Juan Manuel Marquez. Not just because they were both trained by Nacho Beristain, but you can see Marquez studied his movements like a blueprint. His stance, his weaving, the way he throws certain punches like the uppercut, his counters, and even the way he drops his arms down and looms over his opponents after a knockdown... Marquez definitely used Lopez' style as the foundation to build upon to create his own, yet very similar style.
totally agree
Lightweights and walterweights were grateful finito wasn't up there KOs for days 😂
