I love how #9's monologue is just him trying to comfort Rose, to reassure her, and to lighten the mood in light of his inevitable change. His regeneration, as humble as it is compared to the rest of the new-Who regeneration, is a fantastic, heartwarming one that just shows the best that the Doctor can be.
What I remember from that regeneration is that 9 said he himself had been fantastic. That really stuck with me. He judges himself kindly at the very end, with a big smile and zero regrets, as he's ready to welcome change into a new, happier, self. He's such an inspiration.
That is the very reason I loathe the New Who regenerations. They totally detract from the character and are monologues delivered by the actor, acknowledging his fellow actors who played his assistants like some sort of award ceremony. Ridiculous self congratulational tripe! The Doctor is supposed to be dying, he doesn't have the time nor the conceit to bow and wave at an audience as these new doctors do.
@@stevemichaelexecutivethera9984 It's not, the episode ends there. The next episode starts with the 3rd Doctor falling out of the TARDIS, with the episode being in full colour
@@thirtyfoursevenzeroAnd let's hope it's keep going. As life and times are changing. I like to think future generations would take this idea in directions we could not even concept.
Yes! And Patrick was such a genius in acting and being the Doctor, if he would't be, we would never had this amazing universe, he had a great responsability there and he nailed it!!
Clever.. Not the word i would use but. Yeah basically. A eternal show because everything changes.. Most of the doctors are horrible horrible actors. Like a high school play kinda bad.
Smith into Capaldi really felt like the end of an era. It marked the point when the show’s popularity began a decline from the fervent peak it was at during Tennant and Smith’s run. Capaldi did a splendid job, and Jodie has done her damndest, but after 11 things just weren’t the same.
I'm pretty sure they're just using regeneration inside the tardis to give a good reason to change the Tardis's interior. (cause you know, the doctor damages it when he regenerates inside)
Eleven's regeneration will always be the saddest for me, his doctor was the one that really resonated with me the most and the monologue he gives has such a soft prick of bittersweetness to it it gets me every time
Big speeches are all well and good, but it feels like they're using too many words and don't say enough, but 10's last words use very few words and say all you need to know. It's just RTD's writing being different to Moffat's. I really hope 13's last words are something good but I'm not holding out hope. I'd honestly just let Jodie say what she wants to say cause I have 0 hope that Chinballs can write something even close to gut-punching.
cloudneal neither did 12. In fact I’m seeing a pattern: 9 changed with Rose, 10 changed alone, 11 changed with Clara, 12 changed alone. If the pattern continues, 13 is changing with at least one companion.
Remember when there was a lot of criticism for 12? How much Peter Capaldi became such a great doctor. His performance was something like a play. Really had such emotions
What makes Capaldi the best doctor imo is the fact that he incorporates different aspects of all previous doctors within his performance. He's essentially an amalgamation of all the doctors prior while still making the role his own. You can see glimpses of his past incarnations while at the same time bringing a new energy to the part. He is truly the definitive Doctor.
Just today I see haters of Capaldi and his «show ruining» under comparasion of Tenth and Fourteenth first words. As you can understand, that's was fresh comments. Also some of then accuse Jodie:s Doctor in lack of original image. Meanwhile Tenth Doctor: reimagining of Fifth, Eleven remaining of Second and Twelfth is reimagining of Third What's wrong with this people? All Doctor's behaviour stereotypes was created by Troughton, and reimagining again and again.
@@striderwhiston9897 proofs or opinion? Only Capaldi have a beneficial episode in Doctor Who, and there he shows his all actor abilities and how he is truly The Doctor. That's my opinion and proof are high ratings of Heaven Sent.
Patrick Troughton had the hardest job out of anyone else who played the doctor, it was on his shoulders to convince the audience that he was still the doctor, just with a different face. It was thanks to his wonderful and top acting as the 2nd doctor that the show is still going today.
So did Matt Smith, to be honest. He had to take up the mantle from David Tennant who was the most popular Doctor of the Revival. He did a stella job in keeping the show running, as the BBC were seriously considering cancelling the show when David Tennant announced that he was leaving. Though same could be said for Christopher Ecclestone who rebooted the show and made it popular again back in 2005.
@@TheMidnightwolf15 Yea, i read that the show was almost stopped after Tennant left, honest glad they didn't would had been a bit silly really. I totally agree with you on Chris, i consider him the modern era Troughton, it was on his shoulders to bring the show back to a modern audience and he done it perfectly.
Hey Jodie deserve’s some credit for the same thing. IDK if you’ve seen her or not, (a lot of people stopped watching when it was her turn) but I think she’s doing a great job as the doctor. Every line she delivers I could see any other doctor saying. Well not every line, but it’s ok for her to slightly different than the rest. It’s too bad people left. Just because she’s, well, a she, doesn’t mean she Isn’t a great doctor.
When you take it out of context. "I will always remember, when the Doctor was me", he didn't say a word about flying a TARDIS, did he? He remembered how his kidneys looked before, because he remarked, that they are new and didn't like the color. So yea, he remembered the previous regeneration very well to every single detail. Btw "flying the TARDIS", River contradicted herself throughout the series. Once she claimed learning from the best, but not the Doctor, possibly the TARDIS herself, another time, she claimed the Doctor taught her. River: "I can fly her, I learned from the best. A pity you were busy at that time" - can't remember the episode "The Doctor: "You can't fly her" River: "Of course I can, you taught me how to" - The Big Bang
@@Croftice1 the TARDIS itself taught River to fly it, according to her. In one of the episodes she said: 'The TARDIS. It showed me how to fly it'. Or smthng like that
As hard as It was to watch the first time, I love how the 10ths regeneration was so destructive. It really let's you see how much he didn't want to leave
it does leave a bad taste in you're mouth for the next doctor, RTD really setting up the next doctor for failure, the dude gatekeeps the show like no other.
With Ten's first regenaration he seems to not mind as much. Probably because he has Jack, Donna and Rose with him. But his second time, when he is all alone, it hurts him so much.
I've always wondered why, out of all the timelords we meet, The Doctor is the only one who treats regeneration as becoming a new person, while others just see it as getting a new body. I think it might be a coping mechanism for him. Maybe he has done so many things in his past that he is not proud of that believing he is a whole new person is his way of pretending it didn't happen. It is his reset button.
The way I see it, The Doctor is very different from the rest of the Time Lords. He stole a TARDIS so he could explore time and space, and chooses to do so typically with a human companion at his side. I think he was a lot more human to begin with, and has only got more human after spending so many years traveling with them, so his perception of regeneration has changed.
It's a argument here. You lost how you look, how you talk, and sometimes even your personality drastically change... Only some vague memories is enough prove that you is still you even that you aren't you anymore? Doctor see this way, maybe because he lost so much and die so many times that he can't remember what is being himself again, or he just can't ignore that he basically kill his old body for a new one... It's cool to thinking about
The scenes where the new doctor is still running around in the old doctor’s clothes all confused are the most fun scenes of the series and you can’t change my mind
The first episode with Jodie wasn’t as bad to be honest, it just could be better at the plot points and the alien enemy and I would be pumped. Jodie killed the first few seconds she was on screen and I wanted her run to be Brilliant
@@stumbling_ Agreed. Chibnall and Whittaker's departures will be welcomed; Davies should usher in some good episodes again and Jodie is, well... just not good as the Doctor. But that doesn't detract from my earlier statement.
I feel really sorry for anybody who's favourite doctor is Colin Baker cos he didn't even get his own regeneration scene because of how badly they treated him 😭
I mean all of them died early. Eleven at least had time to age properly living his whole regeneration to the fullest, that's why he did change rather quickly and painlessly (I mean it could be also thanks to the new cycle starting). Overall I wish we had at least one Doctor who just decides to spare Tardis all the damage and instead starting monologue, they could decide to just crash somewhere outside. I mean imagine Jodie grabbing last cookie, and then jumping from the Tardis to then kill all the dinosaurs after she would crash East from modern US.
“Three I’s in one breath. Makes you sound rather egotistical, young lady.” I love that line. Six had a very stern but very childish playfulness to him. One of my favourite doctors.
That's the only part of Six I've seen apart from where he strangled his companion. To me it seemed super rude and condescending - not a great recipe for compassion after a regeneration.
@@artyb27 He didn't strangle his companion at all.... his extreme post regenerative trauma made him very paranoid for a second and he grabbed Peri by the throat.... for all of two seconds. As for your dismissal of his tone and delivery of his first line, you clearly no nothing of regeneration as it never goes smoothly and can take ages for the Doctor to be back to normal. I think you are simply judging on two clips having never seen anything more which is utterly ridiculous.
It's a shame Colin Baker wasn't even allowed to film his own regeneration scene at the end...due to bad blood, he was quitting the show, but agreed to do that much. And they just...told him "No".
how that would be a treat and not this pro-feministic approach which is more politically correct than a leftist politician themselves. The BBC really are cucks
I love how the War Doctor regenerates with acceptance. Realizing that his body had served its purpose. He had done everything he needed to. Definitely a contrast to the other Doctors' regenerations.
@@timgorg1919 basically the first doctor ran from Gallifrey on a stolen Tardis and messed around until his 8th iteration. By then he time war between the Daleks and the Time Lords had begun in full force. So when he regenerated again he became the war doctor and he couldn’t be the doctor because what he did in the war wasn’t in the name of the doctor. In the day of the doctor he teams the 10th and 11th doctors and saves Gallifrey by moving it to another dimension so it appeared to be destroyed. The war doctor gets closure from his later selfs who tell him he was the doctor during the time it was hardest to be him. VulLord666 Yeah, neither did I, but I watched the reasons for leaving by the Council of Geeks, and found out that Capaldi announced that he wanted to leave when Moffat announced he was leaving. Smart man.
At first, I didn't like Capaldi, too "dark". Smith and Tennant were great Doctors. But in the end, when he regenerated and left, I cried. He was a great doctor too. "Doctor...I let you go..." :(
21:18 “Rose, before I go, I just want to tell you you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I!” For many, this was our first regeneration.

Honestly, David Tennant is one hell of a hot Doctor, Christopher Eccleston WAS fantastic, Capaldi was a funny/Grumpy cat Doctor and Matt Smith was the witty, weird and rather smart Doctor
And Jodie Whitaker is the one everyone tries to forget. (I'm not being sexist, I actually like her as an actress, I just hate the scripts, and Bradley Walsh

I really like Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor from the Big Finish audio stories and I hope that they invite him for a special for the TV show in the future. He’s a really good Doctor and people should acknowlege him more
It wasn't the last time that happened... they executed the 5th doctor in Arc of Infinity. And then the doctor shot himself at the end of that story. Then they put the 6th doctor on trial under penalty of execution... Yeah, they really do like giving him a bad time. Or promoting him to lord president of gallifrey, which happened to the 4th and 5th doctors. And the 12th. ... They should really make their minds up!
He was not my favorite Doctor, but Moffat pulled a pro gamer move that made 12’s story the most likable. My favorite was 11. I liked his goofy personality, alien like behavior, and a childish mind. But Capaldi’s story was the best to be written in Doctor Who history, and that’s why we like him.
@Maxiel Jeffers that's not true. It's a known tradition for the showrunners to write the last words, especially when they leave. These quote are normally as much of a message to the next crew as they are to the audience.
"This song is ending but the story never ends" Perfectly captures the transition of our favorite timelord. It also makes me really sad that both 10 & 12 had to go alone.
@@Isaac-gh5ku Well the Timelords set it up, including how it happens and how many you get. 12 is an arbitrary number but it's one they fixed. As we've seen there are exceptions like their leader Rassilon, stated in lore as ruling around 2 million years or so I think. So it makes sense execution would be like this, and even that it not be as big a deal as it is for us since you just make them change completely. Yes they remember who they were but each Timelord becomes a different person, and that is seen as good enough to deal with most crimes they have, in addition to smaller things like exile or restriction from using their tech and so on.
@@Isaac-gh5ku there is also induced regenerations. Usually to save a time lord who was gravely injured. Because the entire body changes, damage done to it is also removed. So say a time lord was in a coma and their brain was damaged, they would induce a regeneration so that they are healed completely. Yes, the time lord in question would have no say but it would save their life

That happened decades before I've even existed and I'm still mad about it.
That's crazy that Rose saw 2 regenerations in her lifetime, considering how long timelords live and what it takes to kill the doctor, she's incredibly lucky
Personally, I believe that the reason the energy in Tenth’s Regeneration was so intense was because it came after an aborted Regeneration. The energy was more intense because it also contained the energy remaking from the aborted attempt. Also, IIRC, the reason why Twelfth behaved weirdly after his Regeneration was because it was a new cycle.
To me, it's more the amount of time he took between healing from the radiation (immediately after exposure) and making the final shift. He spent all the time in between visit past companions: saving Martha and Mickey from a Sontaran, saving Luke Smith from being run over by a car, introducing Jack to Alonso Frame, visiting Verity Newman (Joan Redfern's great-granddaughter) at a book signing, visiting Wilfred and Sylvia at Donna's wedding (whilst making a whistle stop to Geoffrey Noble to borrow £1 for the lottery ticket), and then finally to Rose and Jackie on New Year's Day 2005. Through all that time he'd been holding it in - no wonder he was in agony at the end.
Right? I just watched an interview where Matt spoke on how he almost left the show when Karren did and to come from that to this and seeing that seen hits so much harder. Just oof, right in the feels. They brought her back just for him. Just so that he could see her one last time as the Doctor and just...open sobbing all around.
@@juliawerner7519 Aw man, that really hits me in my emotions... It does remind me of something I heard about why Jon Pertwee (the Third Doctor) left the show. The actor who initially played the Master, Roger Delgado, had died in a car accident, and Pertwee wasn't able to enjoy doing the show quite as much anymore. The two had been good friends, and Pertwee didn't really want to be the Doctor anymore without his friend alongside him.
Another possibility why 11 regenerated so softly and quickly is that there wasn’t extreme emotion attached to it or a battle not to change. 9 was fighting the energy and 10 didn’t want to leave like that
Don’t forget 11 had been alive for a very long time and he all he did was fight and protect trenzalore. I think by the time he regenerated he was just too tired and was ready for the next stage
I love how some of the Doctors last words could just as easily be their actors. Christopher Eccleston was honored to be the doctor, considering himself a good one, happy to have been partnered with Billie Piper as Rose. David Tennant didn't want to give up the role, he was having so much fun, he was sad to give up doing something he loved. Matt Smith accepts the fact that he would no longer be the Doctor, yet remains upbeat, vowing to always remember the time he was the face of a beloved character. And finally Peter Capaldi. At first he is like David, he doesn't want to go, to stop being the doctor. Soon, though, he comes to understand that its was someone else's turn, departing after giving a few words of advice.
@@funnyfunnyvalentine7991 Dude just be quiet. Whittaker is not trash. Her first season had bad writing but her acting is fine and better than a lot of others on the show (specifically companions). That bad season was trash yes but Whittaker herself is not "trash", and if you think that then you do not know much about acting.
There is something I always wanted to see: The Doctor lies down on an almost barren, withered field. As they regenerate, the energy spreads across the ground and the terrain itself also gains new life, so flowers bloom whle the new Doctor is revealed.
Best Korea i think she’s great! she’s really nailing it. i can understand why some people don’t like the writing but personally i really enjoyed series 11
Matt Smith's regeneration to Peter Capaldi always cracks me up. It's so sudden unlike any of the other regenerations. It started all dramatic just like every others then BOOM Fierce Grouchy Eyes!!
@City Watch Guard All 4 really, Christopher's last line is "I just want to tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? 𝑺𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝑰." after all.
@City Watch Guard Yes. Honestly, people may hate me for saying this but I didn't like any of the regenerations of the old Doctor Who era. There was so much more emotion and beauty in the new Doctor Who era regenerations. I could connect more with it and I loved every moment of it.
I honestly love 7->8’s regeneration. That sort of body horror is something we rarely see in doctor who, and I wish it was used more, but obviously it’s way cheaper to just add flames to their face in Adobe after effects
I don’t think it’s just a budget thing, I feel like they have the budget now to do the body horror if they want, I feel like the fire aesthetic for regeneration energy is just too cemented in doctor who at this point and changing it would be a bit weird
I see everyone saying 10, 11 and 12 are the best. But to me, 9 is. It's so bittersweet. Just a simple, "You were fantastic" His final compliment to his companion. "And yknow what? So was I." Hurts. He knows it's over, but he's happy he shared his life time, and acknowledges that while his time is up, it was a fantastic run
Admit it . tennants was the saddest and most impactful . his doctor never got a happy ending and the doctors last words are the actors choice . tennants last words were "I don't wanna go"
What you on about, 10 got a happy ending he got the chance to revisit all of his old companions one last time while knowing he died for a good purpose of saving Wilf. 7 got shot by a street gang, which wasn’t what killed him, it was surgery that could have easily been avoided if the surgeons had listened to the Doctor. To top it off he regenerated completely alone in a cold morgue.
It helps that his was mostly silent, just letting tennant act, which the man knows how to do, no argument. 9th' regen is also pretty good. But a lot of the other doctor's regens were way over written, especially 11->12 and 12->13 (and I'm a moffat apologist). Tennant's regen is the motto "keep it simply stupid" and it's really effective.
The 2nd Doctor's regen was basically a horror scene. It wasn't his time yet, but each time he fades you can see his face contort, his hair change, and his face turn to darkness. All the while, he's screaming "NO!"
From an in-universe perspective, it gets more chilling to look at when you take into account Ten's description of regeneration as dying and being replaced by another person, which more-or-less says that Two was executed.
Theirs is the season 6b theory that says he was grabbed before the regeneration finished and did missions for the timelords in exchange his regeneration was held off.
He played the First Doctor in Twice Upon a Time. He'd previously portrayed William Hartnell a few years earlier, and has since reprised the role of the Doctor for Big Finish.
I'm so disappointed that while Twelve was listing everything he wanted his successor to uphold, he didn't remind them to subscribe to the official Doctor Who UA-cam channel. Edit: Nevermind, he reminded her somehow because she says it at the end of the video. Twelve would be proud.
we all know that practically speaking the regenerations were made more energetic and explosive due to higher FX budgets. But its awesome to think that the reason they became more energetic and explosive over the years is that as the Doctor got older they absorbed more and more time energy and the release of that energy during regeneration was more potent and powerful with each regeneration because of the increased energy absorbed.
I think the reason time lords can only have 12 regenerations is because the body resets so much that the regeneration process is entirely unstable. This could also be why 11 to 12 regeneration was not explosive and very instant
I mean, in the case of Tennant and Capaldi, it also had a large amount to do with them delaying the regeneration for so long. Well, in Tennant's case, it probably also has to do with the fact that he'd also absorbed a metric fuckload of radiation beforehand.
It's always nice when they have a relatively peaceful send off after all the strain of their past life catches up with them. I loved Matt Smith's regeneration because even though I was sad to see him go, he did it with a bit of a nod and wink, whilst the previous regeneration had been a touch self-pitying considering how everyone else had born it relatively stoically (except 2, but being forced to change by your own people as bound to upset you a little)
@Jacob Wood when the production team and the higher ups at the BBC treat you like shite are you gonna be willing to do more Doctor stuff with them? Even then recently he's started doing conventions because he's realised how much the fans love him, not because the BBC wants him to
does anyone else find two’s regeneration extremely heartbreaking? like sure, it doesn’t have any cheesy sad music or tear jerking speeches, but hear me out. this man had to watch his two close friends have their mind wiped of every adventure they’ve ever had (excluding the first encounter) and be sent back to where they came from. his tardis is stripped away of its ability to travel, so he can’t even go and try to find them. he’s also forced to change his face and is sent to earth in 1970s england with no means of escape, since his tardis is practically useless. all of this done by his own people. idk, maybe it’s just me, but i feel like this is probably one of the saddest regenerations if you really look into it.
In addition to that, he doesn't even get any meaningful last words like most of the other Doctors. He's just desperately protesting against his inevitable fate, only to get cut off mid-sentence. Considering that the BBC considered ending DW after the 2nd Doctor, that would've been an incredibly dark ending for the character, let alone the entire series.
Causes for each regeneration: The First Doctor: Drained Life Force The Second Doctor: Forced to change Appearance The Third Doctor: Exposed to Radiation Poisoning The Fourth Doctor: Falling to the Ground The Fifth Doctor: Spectrox Toxaemia The Sixth Doctor: Injured in an attack The Seventh Doctor: Shot in a Gang War The Eighth Doctor: Caught in a Ship Crash The War Doctor: Old Age The Ninth Doctor: Absorbing time vortex Energy The Tenth Doctor: Shot by a Dalek The Tenth Doctor: Radiation Poisoning The Eleventh Doctor: Old Age The Twelfth Doctor: Shot by Cybermen and caught in an explosion
Part of me feels like--and I hope this isn't the route they go for--that Thirteenth has been in a coma all this time since she fell to the ground, and the last couple seasons have been in her mind as she tries to BE the Doctor, but can't. So after the third season, she finally wakes up, meets the companions she thought she had, except it's been ten years and she's also never met any of them in reality, finally does the Doctor thing with their help, and goes to regenerate from sacrificing so much life force. On second thought, no, there's no way it'll be like that. Nevermind.
10's is still the one that hits the hardest emotionally, but 11's words leading up to his are so great. "But time's change...and so must I..." Matt Smith was phenomenal in that scene.
Just love Matt Smith's reaction to regenerating from ten. Just the child-like switch from emotional to joy. Always calms me down from flooding the room with tears.
Yeah for me I didn’t like that, completely overacted. It’s like a family member has just died and someone’s trying to make me laugh. Just… no! Leave me to grieve.
Me too. I think David Tennants regeneration scene was too dramatic for me. I don't ever get sad when a Doctor leaves I'm so excited to see what the new one offers and Matt Smith reassured me the show was in good hands
Exactly I think that’s why I hated when Matt regenerates haha, where he’s sad before regenerating and then IMMEDIATELY changes without even a second of notice lol, boom right in your face is a new man and 11 is just gone. Shit is not easy for me to get over 😭
“Oh there it is...silly old universe. The more I save it, the more it needs saving; it’s a treadmill...yes, yes I know they’ll get it all wrong without me...well I suppose...one more lifetime...wouldn’t kill anyone......well except me.” Nobody could’ve put it better.
The rest of his whole speech was for the next doctor.. Which is touching to me. He knows he is out of time, and wants to tell the next era of who he was
12 was the best. Absolute best. I think that whole speech he gave, besides making me cry like a baby, he was trying to tell the next Doctor how not to be like himself. Remember how 11 was a touchy feely? A "I'll hug & kiss anyone on the head (even a Sontaran) whether they need it or not". Whereas 12 would get tetchy when Clara tried hugging him, especially in S8. By S9, 12 was with the over-sexed River Song for 24 years on Darillium, that's potentially 8,766 nights of sex! I believe that would have been enough to loosen up anybody! Then 12 became more relaxed w/hugging, at least with Clara anyway. He also became more forgiving, of himself and of others...until Ashildur screwed everything up and he nearly became the Oncoming Storm on her until Clara dealt w/him. So, I think his speech to the next Doctor was a, "learn from my experiences." He wanted the next one to automatically understand that it's important to be nice, not have an, "she cares so I don't have to" attitude. If they make a mistake always try to make it better and most importantly, never eat pears! Sorry I wrote too much, I hope I didn't confuse anyone with what I was trying to say. Only one more thing, I didn't think I'd like an older Doctor but Peter Capaldi's acting completely changed my mind. Now, when someone asks me who is my Doctor, I'll proudly say, "#12, never accept substitutes!"
Matt’s regeneration still makes me cry even after all this time I still cry uncontrollably, It’s so beautifully done beautifully written the music the lighting and when Karen comes down the stairs and faces Matt it just breaks my heart, I’d like to imagine on the day of filming Matt had a little cry with Karen as she hugs him comforting him through that moment.
Most unfair regeneration - Second Doctor (executed by the Time Lords) Stupidest reason for regeneration - Seventh Doctor (gunned down at random, then killed on the operating table) Most triumphant regeneration - War Doctor (helped save Gallifrey and was ready to ditch the warrior role) Saddest regeneration - Eighth Doctor (died a failure, had to become something he hated)

I thought that it was because Blue Peter did an episode on regeneration that they borrowed episode 4 to use the clip, and then lost the rest of the episode. I might be wrong, but that's what I read somewhere.

I always loved how quick 11's regeneration into 12 was. He's reaching out for Clara's hand and then out of nowhere, his head flings back and then back up and suddenly 12 is giving Clara the "who the hell are you and what the hell are you doing in my TARDIS" death stare.
well, not exactly. you forget he went majority of the regeneration process in the bell tower in the town of "Christmas" on 'Trenzalore.' That was just the process completing. His entire regen cycle reset. Matt Smith was supposed to be the 12th regen of the Doctor. and the Doctor's life was supposed to end with him. In this compilation, I wish they would have added in that scene of the extended regen. (most of the other scenes were extended well) They could also have extended 10's first regen to himself by having him complete, show the hand, and where he pops up and says 'ok done, let's go'...basically. I think originally they intended for regeneration to be linked to the TARDIS somehow (the concept itself didn't get properly explained until 1974), so they included the sound effect. I highly doubt there was a plan in 1966 for the sound to correlate with plot points from an episode 52 years in the future.
Much better than 10 being a little sad baby boy.
That is the very reason I loathe the New Who regenerations. I have a friend who is Troughtons Great GrandDaughter. Pretty cool. Her dad is also Former England Cricketer Jim Troughton
So did Matt Smith, to be honest. He had to take up the mantle from David Tennant who was the most popular Doctor of the Revival. He did a stella job in keeping the show running, as the BBC were seriously considering cancelling the show when David Tennant announced that he was leaving.
Perhaps the Doctor is the only Time Lord who hasn't been brainwashed by the Academy into thinking that regeneration is not death.
@@rtozier2011 doctor is the only one who reject brainwash

It's a argument here. You lost how you look, how you talk, and sometimes even your personality drastically change... The Doctor never likes to change.
Whenever the Doctor learns to accept Change , it’s too late , and they’ll forget that once they regenerate.
I was thinking the same thing. Both Ten and Twelve delayed regeneration and they both tore the hell out of the TARDIS.
i mean, the TARDIS regenerates too in a technical way.

The Second Doctor's regeneration becomes so much harsher in hindsight when you realize the Time Lords executed him.
So they are such thing as forced regeneration?
Can explain why 12 also burst into energy, since he was also stopping it rather than accepting it
You somehow made regeneration sound like a menstrual cycle

It does remind me of something I heard about why Jon Pertwee (the Third Doctor) left the show. The actor who initially played the Master, Roger Delgado, had died in a car accident, and Pertwee wasn't able to enjoy doing the show quite as much anymore. The two had been good friends, and Pertwee didn't really want to be the Doctor anymore without his friend alongside him.
Another possibility why 11 regenerated so softly and quickly is that there wasn’t extreme emotion attached to it or a battle not to change. 9 was fighting the energy and 10 didn’t want to leave like that
I always thought it was because he released most of the energy on the clock tower

Admit it . tennants was the saddest and most impactful . his doctor never got a happy ending and the doctors last words are the actors choice . tennants last words were "I don't wanna go"
What you on about, 10 got a happy ending he got the chance to revisit all of his old companions one last time while knowing he died for a good purpose of saving Wilf. 7 got shot by a street gang, which wasn’t what killed him, it was surgery that could have easily been avoided if the surgeons had listened to the Doctor. To top it off he regenerated completely alone in a cold morgue.
@@paddystrongjaw9995 I . . . Disagree but respect your opinion . 7's death was incredibly sad also .
He regenerated so hard he burnt his eyebrows off.......
The tenth was so sad
I like how elevens last words rhymed.
"So long as you remember all the people that you used to be."
"I will always remember, when the doctor was me."
The 2nd Doctor's regen was basically a horror scene. It wasn't his time yet, but each time he fades you can see his face contort, his hair change, and his face turn to darkness. All the while, he's screaming "NO!"
...and at the time, I believe, Jon Pertwee had not been definitely cast hence the ambiguity of no successor being shown.

"I don't want to go."

we all know that practically speaking the regenerations were made more energetic and explosive due to higher FX budgets. But its awesome to think that the reason they became more energetic and explosive over the years is that as the Doctor got older they absorbed more and more time energy and the release of that energy during regeneration was more potent and powerful with each regeneration because of the increased energy absorbed.
Then one day the doctor is gonna crack the tardis like a walnut from how strong his regeneration will be
I think the reason time lords can only have 12 regenerations is because the body resets so much that the regeneration process is entirely unstable. This could also be why 11 to 12 regeneration was not explosive and very instant
@@ethantucker92838 it was the most explosive so far, he destroyed a fleet of Daleks with the regeneration energy!
I mean, in the case of Tennant and Capaldi, it also had a large amount to do with them delaying the regeneration for so long.

@@ando_red yes, the CYCLE regeneration was unstable and explosive, but the INCARNATION regeneration was instant
It's always nice when they have a relatively peaceful send off after all the strain of their past life catches up with them. I loved Matt Smith's regeneration because even though I was sad to see him go, he did it with a bit of a nod and wink, whilst the previous regeneration had been a touch self-pitying considering how everyone else had born it relatively stoically (except 2, but being forced to change by your own people as bound to upset you a little)
man... christopher eccleston is so underrated... he is a very nice doctor.
@Jacob Wood when the production team and the higher ups at the BBC treat you like shite are you gonna be willing to do more Doctor stuff with them? Even then recently he's started doing conventions because he's realised how much the fans love him, not because the BBC wants him to
Not just nice. He was fantastic.

Jacob Wood he said in a interview he didn’t want to be typed cast as just the doctor so I don’t really blame him he has done better then most
In my opinion Eccleston was the second best, Tennant being the first of course!
does anyone else find two’s regeneration extremely heartbreaking? like sure, it doesn’t have any cheesy sad music or tear jerking speeches, but hear me out. this man had to watch his two close friends have their mind wiped of every adventure they’ve ever had (excluding the first encounter) and be sent back to where they came from. his tardis is stripped away of its ability to travel, so he can’t even go and try to find them. he’s also forced to change his face and is sent to earth in 1970s england with no means of escape, since his tardis is practically useless. all of this done by his own people. idk, maybe it’s just me, but i feel like this is probably one of the saddest regenerations if you really look into it.
he was literally executed ie capital punishment
In addition to that, he doesn't even get any meaningful last words like most of the other Doctors. He's just desperately protesting against his inevitable fate, only to get cut off mid-sentence. Considering that the BBC considered ending DW after the 2nd Doctor, that would've been an incredibly dark ending for the character, let alone the entire series.

The rest of his whole speech was for the next doctor.. Which is touching to me. He knows he is out of time, and wants to tell the next era of who he was
that was the lifetime that should'nt have happened.
