The Mandalorians Should be Worried About the New Republic

  • Currently the Mandalorian believe their greatest enemy is the Imperial Remnant. But if they aren't careful Moff Gideon, who's stayed a step ahead of the Mandalorians this entire time, could turn the New Republic against Mandalore with his moles. Even though they should be allies the New Republic and Mandalorians have completely different cultural and political values.

I like the exploration of “what happens when you ignore fascism”, it may make for a compelling story if explored further. The New Republic’s relaxed and lethargic approach to this growing threat is very much akin to how the Nazis were ignored, laughed at and dismissed as a non-threat up until they gained power. Everyone always forgets that fact about the rise of Nazi Germany

    • @3of12

The Nazis were not ignored. Other European powers were simply too afraid of war and not ready for a total war conflict. They were also very popular outside of Germany until it was exposed they were committing crimes against humanity. Even the Werrmacht didn't know until they retreated from Russia.

Prequels serve as a warning against the rising tide of Fascism, The First Order is somewhat a warning against Neo Nazis. Right now in the Mandalorian sort of parallels "Project Paperclip" and reintegrating the "Little Nazis" while repositioning for what would be the cold war, but there's no reals third faction to face. If the Mandalorians serve as the image of the new and growing threat, despite not having any real expansionist goals, it could work. The Allies and former Nazis teamed up real fast to fight the Communists politically. The Mandalorians themselves may just offer a loose affiliation of former Seapartist systems a banner to organize with and to get help with local security concerns. Honestly a region of Mandalorians Protectorate seems like a cool idea, where systems more or less take care of their people, and the Mandalorians patrol for pirates and slavers.

My theory is that the reason why the Mandalorians do not fight the empire in the sequels is that the movie script just simply forgot them all together. So with that being the case and coinciding with how long the rebuild of Mandalore would take it’s reasonable to assume that the Mandalorians were just rebuilding and feeling burned by the new republic didn’t get involved.

The new Republic is similar, the empire has collapsed and with it the bureaucracy and institutions that it inherited from the Old Republic. Which means NR has a weak foundation to build upon, forcing the NR into having to struggle with the burden of transitioning from a rebel organization to a government, which is always a major struggle that the real world as shown. The result is its struggling very hard to make themselves into a effective government and exert authority over its territories, With all the chaos of the empire collapse going on along with elements of the old regime doing everything in their power to stop them, with Thrawn behind the scenes Rallying and coordinate with them to instigate a resurgence. The NCR at least started small and grew slowly and steadily over the several decades. The NR situation is much worse.

There's no fixing the sequels unless they're allowed to do a total retcon of things. The prequels had great characters and a great set up, just it was way to much for a movie format. The Clone Wars worked because there was so much for them to work with.
The sequels issues run much deeper, the one of the biggest being Rey (which Ahsoka called out in season 2 of Mano). While I know to many people throw the term Mary Sue around without understanding it but Rey is a textbook example of one. She excels at everything with no effort, everyone loves her, no one can challenge her, she's better at doing things then established characters who put in actual work at that thing, and she's always right. In her first movie, without any training, mastered the force and took down her Darth Vader. Never used a light saber and just won because Kennedy is pushing some dumb progressive agenda (people should really look at where the progressive movement came from, they are not good ppl and were Hitler simps). Then there's the fact there is no plan, things just happen in these movies. The sad part was the only movie in the sequels that seemed to have a plan was The Last Jedi (I still hate that movie, but on at lest a technical level Ruin Johnson is more competent at making movies then JJ is).

They could handle pirate issues and respond to things like smuggling and small time warlords much quicker, not even thinking about the bulwark they'd be in slowing down the Imperial assaults and act as an early warning system. Heck, there is so much Imperial and Rebel equipment being decommissioned and scrapped that they could offer Mandalore a carrier and fighters, or some frigates to help expand their ability to police the Outer Rim and let the Republic focus forces in other areas. Sadly it's more likely Thrawn will attack one of the locations where all the Imperial ships are awaiting dismantling and steal those ships for his forces, similar to how he acquired the Katana Fleet in the novels.

One historical example was the 100th/442nd RCT in WWII. It's paper strength was about 3000 men, but between Sept 1943 and May 1945, over 10000 men served in the unit, which suffered more than 300% casualties. So far he’s been right about the threat that the imperial remnants are not just to the republic but the galaxy as a whole. The new republic’s extreme willingness to not explore the outer rim to hunt down the last elements of the empire is quite concerning, the more they choose to ignore the threat the more powerful the surviving imperials will become.

We saw in the Clone Wars that Mandalore wanted to remain independent. They certainly have their reasons and are largely cultural. They know they aren't particularly compatible with the Republic, Old or New. They fight to conquer, might makes right.
With Bo-katan as the leader again, and the realization that her people are throwbacks heading for extinction, perhaps she will find the wisdom to seek a new path for her people that is satisfactory and yet not self-destructive.
There are definitely plenty of other warrior cultures in the Galaxy to take notes on. How's that going for them? Probably about the same.
Might be time for the Mandalorians to get with the times and provide value to their neighbors and allies, become productive citizens in the Galactic society.

The New Republic will fight the Mandalorians for one of two reasons, both possibilities engineered by Moff Gideon :
    1) Gideon specifically hired Mandalorian privateers to do his prison transport break
    Or
    2) Gideon's own forces rescued him and explicitly PLANTED a broken piece of beskar armor inside the shuttle that was explicitly not blown to smithereens so that it could be found and implicate the Mandalorians.
Option #2 seems more likely for a Putin stand-in. As an intelligence officer planting misleading evidence for opposing forces to find was a critical skill. It is a skill that Gideon leans heavily on as an Imperial remnant leader opposing a much more powerful enemy in the unified New Republic. Gideon HAS TO guide, befuddle and manipulate the perceptions and actions of the New Republic precisely and constantly.
To this end: allowing the Mandalorians to rescue him in the hopes that they would leave evidence behind implicating themselves is leaving too much to chance. The only way to ensure that the New Republic and Mandalorian factions fight with each other is to precisely orchestrate the frame job.
Which points to my original inspiration for this theory:
When have we EVER seen beskar armor fragment or leave behind pieces? Gideon has access to vast amounts of beskar that he made new armor with. It would be much more reliable for him to manufacture the evidence entirely himself thus ensuring that his masterful frame job actually works.

The New Republic is finding out what the Galactic Empire and Republic that preceded them already knew: That running a galaxy is hard as hell.
The Rebel Alliance as the underdog was tightly run, efficient, made every resource matter. They were creative.
We've had many examples of how the large Republic and Galactic Empire acted slowly, clumsily. Not acting with threats as they should.
The Rebel Alliance after taking over the galaxy, now has to worry about its administration, and probably, very likely now content. Coruscant is theirs. Palpatine and Vader are dead. They've continued to curbstomp the Empire. So now, as the New Republic, as far as they were concerned, all that being done, they won. You can let the foot off the gas pedal now.
Except the Imperial Remnant hasn't thrown in the towel. Now working with less, the Remnant is being more efficient with what they have left. They're being more careful.
The Imperial Remnant are now the efficiently run underdogs, like how the Rebel Alliance was when they were up and comers.

This right here is one of the things I love about star wars, politics! Personally I'd love if they managed to resecure and settle mandalore and establishing it as an independant world in the eyes of the New Republic with the help of Pleziure V (as per the royals agreement at the end of episode 6) as the mando's rebuild their planet, they deepen their ties with other independant worlds along the Hidian way, and eventually forming a sort of loose traders guild on the outer rim, with the mandalorians rising to become the protectors. As I don't care much for the Disney trilogy, it would be wonderful to see how this Alliance of Independant worlds would fair in a galaxy beset by the first order, and a New Republic that gets practically wiped out in the first salvo.

De-commission most of the available naval assets was really stupid of the New Republic, but it's not the first time a Star Wars government has done something monumentally stupid. I personally still don't regard the sequels as canon, but I think this is definitely one step of reconciling them. One thing about them that I dislike is that they just feel like AI-generated Star Wars based on the original trilogy - they maintained the dynamic of the Rebellion fighting the Empire and just changed the names. Now, there's at least a reasonable explanation for that.

And while Moff Gideon can turned the Republic against the Mandalorians, not everyone in the Republic's government will believed the words of an active Imperial warlord for sure. Well, I can see that Leia definitely won't and the least she can do is to keep the conflict between just the Imperial Remnants and the Mandalorians, which is highly possible as much as the Republic suddenly believed the words of Moff Gideon about the Mandalorians' threat out of nowhere.

    • @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent
      @Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent Рік тому +2

      One main reason.
Mandalorians historically have been fierce warriors. The Empire will hide but Mandalorians coming back into the galaxy at large with armor and strength in numbers would be a clear and present danger to the New Republic. Its very possible the republic would turn on them or if not, try to ensure Mandalorians remain civil.

    • @lerneanlion

@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent And it leads to the new question here: Why the Republic did not entrust the scattering Mandalorian factions with the Outer Rim in the first place? That way, they can played them against each other while also used them to fight against the Imperial Remnants in the Outer Rim as well. Since the Third Republic is happy with the current status quo full of creepy smiles and pretend to not see bad things out there in the galaxy, let the Mandalorians doing their dirty works seemed like a good option for them. So why did they not do that in the first place?

I feel like people are not clarifying that the delamination problem is an unexpected breakdown of specifically thermoformed paddles that results in a power boost that is a transient advantage for pro level players. This is NOT manufacturers releasing a stock illegal product. For non thermoformed paddles (or anything where a delaminated surface is still anchored to the paddle) this just results in a dead paddle (which may he better for control actually). Really the ppa just needs on site testing so that if a player challenges a paddle, the paddle can be immediately disqualified from play. In tennisnit would be like if a broke string/cracked racket somehow benefitted a player. That racket should be removed from play as soon as someone notices it...

The Sequel trilogy was extremely narrowly focused. The Resistance was equivalent in size to a few Rebellion cells. The first two movies take place back to back and focuses on a double handful of people. In fact it's ridiculous that Leia expected anyone to aid them at all. Imagine 3 days after 9/11 some Rebel group in the middle of no where called to get help. Everyone is so busy guarding their own borders nothing will get sent out or even acknowledged. Ep 9 meanwhile focuses on a still small resistance and organizing a fleet of small ships to take out the Last Order, because Lando is more Charismatic than Leia. The Fleet in Ep 9 has been widely criticized for just taking existing ship models at the time and randomizing assets. The identities of anyone isn't known, just that Lando called in a favor. Considering the size of the galaxy, they are a bit of a paltry number anyway. That had to be just the number of ships that could reach the rendezvous within 18 hours.

Consider the show runners (Filoni and Favreau) and their biases and reasons for loving star wars.
Consider the material they must inevitably work towards (the events of the sequel saga).
Consider the involvement of the Mandalorians and Ahsoka in the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance (none).
These clues suggest that either the Mandalorians are going to be wiped out (but the showrunners would hate destroying the Mandalorians permanently) or that the events of Ahsoka and The Mandalorian are going to fully alienate the Mandalorian people from the republic such that they refuse to come to the republic's aid in its final hour.
Knowing how big of nerds the showrunners are, I can see them writing the Mandalorians back into a position of prominence in the outer rim. After the death of the republic by firing squad in Episode 7, it would not at all surprise me to see the galaxy fall into loose federations and galactigraphically aligned political clusters, and it'd be super dope to see the Mandalorians take up the old role of the Jedi as wandering galactic peacekeepers alongside Rey's Skywalkers.
