    Good video! Even though it’s not the greatest rod, lower price point equipment like this helps bring younger anglers and people just looking to get into fly fishing! A+ content as always!

    Goes to show you,I've always said for beginners you can go cheap on the rod and reel as long as you buy high quality fly line...some of my sets up my fly line itselfs costs for then the whole set up

    New sub here. Out of fly game for 9yrs... kids 🤷, but turning my 9yr old son into a fisher kid this Summer. Have him on my Cabela's Prime 5wt 7'3" fiberglass rod(my only fly rod I still have). These inexpensive fly rods make it more reasonable to consider getting my 9yr old and eventually the 3yr old into fly fishing. I could kit us all out for panfish and bass for less than a mid-tier rod and not cry when a rod breaks. Thanks for highlighting that even a $20 rod can get you on fish. Tight lines.

      That’s funny. I have a 9yr old and a 3yr old. (And a 1.5yr old). The 3yr old loves this temu rod. He can’t quite cast it yet but hopefully soon.

    If it's shooting it to hard why not shorten your shooting head to accommodate to your power stroke?

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  Рік тому

      It's actually the opposite, because the short shooting head taper on my fly line is too aggressive, I need to replace the line with one that has a longer lighter shooting taper.

    Man I don’t know what they are worth these days but you know getting started catching fish on a fly rod I think that is a great deal for the cost , also some one who doesn’t stick with fly fishing they haven’t lost much out of their pocket. should you break it you are not going to cry much about it lol , great video brother.👍

    Cool video bro! What’s a decent glass rod you suggest on a budget? And what fly is that you’re using for the tarpon?

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  Рік тому

      For glass rods, I been using Blue Halo's for years. I love their rods especially the Liger. It's a hybrid. As for the fly, if you dig through my channel you will find a video from a from years ago where I go over my tarpon minnow fly.

    To be fair, most people buying 5wt rods are interested in trout fishing. A “5/6 shooting head” probably isn’t the ideal line to evaluate this rod. Still enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work.✌️

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  5 місяців тому

      For sure, a lot of people will use it for trout. But I use a 5wt exclusively for fishing around town for tarpon, peacock bass, snook and more. And for this scenario a shooting head is essential. But yes, this particular 5wt is probably better suited with a less aggressive fly line.

    People love to dog on cheap gear, but they just don't understand how good cheap gear is these days. I don't have a fly rod that cost over $35. They work great and they catch fish.

    • @Eric.Estrada

      I used to use $1500 Sage Method Elite 5wt, and that thing snapped like a twig regularly. A subscriber recently bought me a $900 Orvis Helios 5wt and that thing snapped like a twig. My goto 5wt cost $48 at bass pro shops.

      @@Eric.Estrada I hear that kind of thing on a regular basis across all types of fishing groups I'm in. People breaking expensive rods every day, yet these cheap ones are tanks and keep going and going. I've _never_ broken a rod in over 30 years of fishing, always using cheap stuff.

      Thanks, I will try out reels here soon, and I am trying out different fly lines on this rod to figure out which one I like best. I can likely address a couple of the cons I had by simply matching a better fly line to the rod than I was tossing in this video.

    I don't think fish can tell the difference between rods... it's all about the bait/lure and angler's technique in fooling the fish to take a bite.

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  9 днів тому +1

      That is definitely true, but a rod can make a huge difference in being able to present the fly where it needs to be, when it needs to be there in order to fool that fish. a skilled angler can pretty much get it done with any fly rod, but having a good rod can really make it easier and more enjoyable.

    🌴 So for $20 bucks it’s a winner ! Kinda well sorta , ahhh maybe 🤔😄 but first you gotta try the stress test by sticking the tip in a ceiling fan , then go cast in 4’ tall tiger grass, try to avert a gator , and maybe a few cotton mouths or rattlers hiding in the grass , now my first question is why you didn’t buy the matching reel , an extra $25 bucks for an aluminum CNC machined reel , now getting a functional working rod & reel ( the reel might of been spooled with line ) for under $50 bucks that could work , after all ya did hook up on a poon so what better way to break in 👈🏼 and not break a fly rod , well ya need a follow up vid on a temu fly reel or reels just to see if the drags work 😄 and then go hunt down a big boy to see if it it will with stand a battle , now I did go to Wally World and bought the Cortland 5-6 combo spooled with backing and line for $70 bucks and it’s , awww it’s ok it seems stiff not a lot of action but maybe it’s just me 😏, now how about a 9-10 wt temu set up and put it on a flats monster ! 🎉👍😳

    • @Eric.Estrada
      @Eric.Estrada  Рік тому +1

      Haha that’s my exact thoughts on the Cortland FairPlay combo from Wally World. Maybe I will try the reels next. They didn’t have any the size I wanted when i ordered the rod. It’s funny I said 1 fish but I jumped 2 tarpon on this rod in this video. The follow up video compares the temu special to a hand crafted custom built (put 5 fish in the air on it).
