Okay, think this through. After watching their magnum opus, what else is there for her to listen to that compares? Let her listen to a few others before giving her that.
Chris DeGarmo's daughter had a dream that her dad died. He wrote this song for her to teach her how to control her dreams, but not only her nighttime dreams, but also her lifetime dreams. Also, after 30+ years this song still sounds amazing, it still hits you in the feels as it did when you first hear it, which makes it a timeless song.
Sorry. Not so. When Chris wrote this song, he didn't have his daughter yet. He wrote the song after reading "Creative Dreaming" by Patricia Garfield. What a lot of people don't know is that lucid dreaming became a big thing in the 1980s, particularly for people of the psychology career path. It was supposed to be the big thing in helping people to recover from depression hence they were all trying to teach us depressives how to do lucid dreaming. I never could get the hang of it. Anyway, I saw Queensryche in concert 3 times in Denver and met the group in a rock nightclub one evening when they were in town for the shows. They truly were as nice as they seem in this video. Tongue-tied and extremely shy, I could only think to ask about this song and that's what I remember being told.
@@ferocitas1958 you are right. and the person in the water in the middle of the song is swimming in a sensory deprevation tank. these tanks induce LUCID DREAMS ...that can get a bit scary, its a bit like beeing on acid.

I just spent 10 days with him and his wife in Ireland, and was fortunate enough to play percussion on this song in a packed Irish Pub with he and his solo band. You are going to LOVE this Queensryche rabbit hole… especially because Geoff was MAJORLY influenced by Pink Floyd and to this day, STILL talks about his love for Floyd. This was their most famous song, getting a ton of play on MTV in about 1991, though it's not exactly a typical song for them. Long ago, I'd heard the band described as being halfway between Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd. Singer Geoff Tate has an amazing vocal range, with a silky smooth tone at all times. Today, Queensryche is still around, but Geoff and the band have parted ways, and they tour separately. Their 1988 album 'Operation: Mindcrime' is a progressive metal masterpiece and a great concept album. Even though it's the last track on the album, I would still recommend 'Eyes of a Stranger' as your next Queensryche song. The vocals are SO good!
Wonderful reactions 🤗 to perfectly pronounced Queensryche, Stacey! & lead vocalist Geoff Tate's unique upper registers are also amazing in their "Take Hold of the Flame" Live in '84 video!

I love your passion for music. Music is not a sport that you just listen to to decide that this band is better than another. Music is art, and if you're not careful, it can carry you away into new dimensions you never knew existed. I think you feel it as much as you hear it, and that is a beautiful talent. Silent Lucidity isn't a song. It's a creation, a creation of many layered works of art all combined into one beautiful audio painting of the soul. As a music lover of more than 50 years, and a person who literally listens to hundreds of bands and thousands upon thousands of great songs nearly all the time, including on my job, Silent Lucidity is very near the top of my all time favorites' list. I love watching you feel the same passion that I feel in these great songs. You won me over with Boston, and now, Queensrÿche. Beautiful reaction from a very passionate music lover. Did I just overkill that comment? LOL I don't think so.
Yup. 1983, and my brother and I had just partook of some "herbal enhancements", and "Queen of the Reich" came on the radio for the first time. I thought in that moment that it was the greatest heavy metal song ever!
Michael Kamen, who worked extensively with Pink Floyd, orchestrated this song, that's why it has that ambient lethargy about it, we all love. Written by Chris DeGarmo, this was Queensrÿche's biggest hit. The single peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart, and nominated for the “Best Rock Song” at the 1992 Grammy Awards.
I remember the moment I first heard this song in 1990 driving home from work. As a fan for several years at that point, I said to myself, Queensryche will get a Grammy for this.
The last two songs of Toyko Live 1984 put me in the hospital for two days. Take hold of the flame was so good it ruptured my spleen and I threw out my back trying to sing along. Queen of the Ryche made me sick to my stomach dozens of times hearing that part near the end when he goes "NOOoooo". BLECHH Omg just thinking about it makes me sea sick. 10/10 A+ Gold Star

I think the thing I like most about these random reaction videos popping up in my feed is that I get a chance to share, and recall, what it was like when we--because it was always "we" back then, hearing new shit on the TV at a party--felt this, wrapped our selves up in it, shared it, kept it, and the musicians knew it.
I worked for a carnival when this song came out and immediately became a fan. There was nothing better than rolling a fatty, jumping on the skywheel (double farris wheel) late at night and having them put this on and ride till the end....
Kansas, Dust in the Wind, Queensryche, Silent Lucidity, and Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven. My top 3 of my 56yrs of living life and loving music of all sorts.
Geoff is a legend many will rediscover as time graces the next generation thirsty for real music and talent. Classically trained in Opera and i had the fortune of seeing them live in 88 open for Metallica and still have my signed poster. Talk about luicidity ....... I had no idea who they really were as a 16 year old discovering rock but will never forget that concert. Metallica killed it of course but Queensryche left an impression from that February eve.
It is nice to see the younger generation appreciate groups from the 80s and 90s. Great songs and music is Universal and timeless for everyone to enjoy.
Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but the cello part right at the very end is actually the beginning of "Brahm's Lullaby". I've always loved the fact that Queensryche used it as a part of this beautiful song.
You're in for a treat/shock when you dig into some of their other stuff, like Eyes of a Stranger. The production on the Operation: Mindcrime and Empire albums is just so good. I especially love the crispness of the drums. Their songwriting was really at a peak during this time, too. It's so satisfying to see people discovering these bands again.
A lot of people think this song is by Pink Floyd before finding out it is really Queensryche. When Geoff was still with the band they put on a great live show. When they did this song, they had a string quartet with them on stage. Supposedly, the Guitarist wrote this song for his daughter after she had a bad dream.
A lot of people don't know Pink Floyd, even though they think they do. Comfortably Numb is their only exposure. I'll admit that it is a Floyd-esque song, but if you knew Pink Floyd by this time, then you'd never be confused.
I’m now 64yr old, an Aussie mum living in central Victoria. I remember so vividly a nightmare that I had as a 6yr old that my mum had died, and I was on top of a very short maze trying to find her. Nearly 60 yrs ago and I still remember waking up sobbing, it was so awful. My mum is now 87 and doing well but I will never forget that terrifying dream. I only discovered this band and song about 4 yrs ago and it touched my soul, just a beautiful song by Chris.
This instantly transports me back to my freshman year of High School. Everytime it came on the radio I immediately stopped whatever I was doing and listen intently.
So glad you finally made it to Queensryche! This song is one of the greatest power ballads ever recorded. But it's pure rock from here forward. Amazing arrangements and thought provoking lyrics! You're going to be told to check out I DONT BELIEVE IN LOVE, HOLD ONTO THE FLAME, and EYES OF A STRANGER. These are all amazing songs, but they are the songs every other reaction streamer has done. I suggest you separate yourself from the pack and react to THE BEST I CAN and EMPIRE. I can't wait to watch you experience one of the 10 greatest bands ever!
When Geoff sings everyone will drop what they’re doing and listen! He’s the God of Vocals! You’ve discovered my 2nd favorite band (Pink Floyd’s #1). You’re going to be going down a big rabbit hole as you are still doing with Floyd. Their music is amazing and some of their albums are concept albums like Floyd’s. Check out Take Hold of the Flame (Tokyo live), Eyes of a Stranger, Jet City Woman, Another Rainy Night, Empire, (as just a start on a long journey of beautiful music).
Even though this is one of their most popular songs, it doesn't display Geoff Tate's incredibly wide vocal range. In order to really appreciate his and the band's talent try 'Eyes of A Stranger' and 'Take Hold of the Flame' ... another song worth considering is 'I Don't Believe in Love' ... there are so many great hits from them, you are just beginning your Queensryche journey.
Saw them in 1992 in Southern California. Won the tickets on a radio station when they used to do that back in the day. I've seen alot of bands in my life however this band is one of my top 5 best concerts ever. Now Geoff Tate (the singer) is not a part of the band anymore which is sad but I have seen him solo and he still does this song it still hits the heart hard. There old stuff is still amazing and I hope you get a chance to experience it. Happy Holidays!!🎼🤘🎄🌹

This was a big hit and was loved by a wider audience than the Metal Heads like me who worshipped their amazing 80s catalog, full of tunes that will Rock you compared to this cool but low key ballad. This is a start and a good song, even a bit of an epic, but what you should have seen for your first Queensryche video is their amazing live Take Hold of the Flame live in Tokyo 1983. Geoff Tate's incredible vocals make the song you are listening to seem as a warmup, they are that good! Any album in the 80s they did is a magnificent work, culminating with their prog-metal classic, Operation Mindcrime. One of my most beloved bands ever, saw them a bunch, they touched my soul and in time, they will yours as well. Enjoy! Great reaction Stacey, please do more of them soon. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶🔥
Every time I listen to this song it brings tears to my eyes from being able to relate to it emotionally due to situations in my life. I’m glad you loved it Stacey 🙏🏻❤️🌹
Been listening to Queensryche since I was 15 now 57 so that tells you how long they’ve been around (fyi you pronounced it correctly) seen them a few times and actually met them backstage at one of their concerts almost 30 yrs ago. Unfortunately the original lineup are no longer together. Chris DeGarmo who you commented on his guitar solo wrote the song g when his daughter had a bad dream that he died. He was telling her about controlling her dreams. Awesome guitarist and awesome songwriter. Cool guy when I met him. He was the 1st to leave and became a private jet pilot. He got tired of the touring having a family. Then after that there was a dispute between Geoff Tate and the rest of the band because Geoff’s wife was the manger from 2005-2012 and they no longer wanted her to be the manager. So the band without Geoff present had a meeting and fired her. That was the beginning of the end. As you could imagine Tate was upset and not soon after Geoff was fired. They had been friends and band mates since their late teens. We have memories of the awesome music they wrote. Enjoy the Queensryche rabbit hole. Do “Operation Mindcrime” next🤘🏼
This was one we knew in the 90's because it was a long haired dude who was always ranked top 5 for this video on MTV that year. Then I was like what the hell is that dude doing ranked so high on the charts Years later a friend asked me about if I ever heard of Queensryche. I said yeah and he played Eyes of A Stranger and then I really looked into the lyrics of this one as well ... Ended up seeing them in concert at House of Blues in Orlando in mid 2000's. Amazing performance
It was a big hit and won an award for best song of the year at the American Music Awards or something like that, if I remember well , way back in 1991 !
Or maybe it was at the MTV Music Awards , I can't remember but it was in september of 1991 , that , I remember for sure .

Welcome to the sonic world of Queensryche! You will love going down this rabbit hole! When people think of Queensryche, this is what they think of. This is one of the most melodic songs in their catalog. Make no mistake, is a progressive heavy metal band. “Deliverance”, “Queen of the Reich”, “Spreading the Disease” are really intense, then you have the anthemic “Take Hold of the Flame”
This is a timeless classic, a really beautiful piece. The gorgeous orchestration is by the late Michael Kamen who also did the string arrangments for Pink Floyd's The Wall; you can hear the same signatures here. Silent Lucidity is also a very personal song for me: my then current band played an acoustic version of it in our first child's namegiving ceremony, 24 years ago. Thank god I didn't sing because I would not have been able to with all the emotion in that moment... 🥲 And yes, Geoff Tate's vocals are stunning.
Great band! Suggest the songs Another Rainy Night, Take Hold of the Flame, Jet City Woman, Empire, off the top of my head. Far more great songs to hear and appreciate.
Geoff Tate... one of the great vocalists of our time. Can easily put him in the conversation with folks like Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry. There are a number of great songs from this band to check out, Eyes of the Stranger would likely be the most popular, but if you like this song, I would highly recommend checking out Anybody Listening? from this same album. Queensryche also did an amazing cover of Scarborough Fair!!! Most people miss that one, but just imagine Simon & Garfunkel's version made metal w/ Geoff's voice soaring...
The Killing Words (MTV Unplugged) is a must listen! Actually the entire Unplugged performance is a must listen. Della Brown, I Will Remember, Suite Sister Mary….there are so many songs by Queensryche that should be explored
This is my favorite song to watch people react to for the first time. Geoff’s voice is extremely polished and developed, he can do it all and I definitely recommend checking out more of their stuff!
Concept Albums were their specialty and this was their one songs that got huge play on terrestrial radio. You have to listen to the whole album to get the whole vibe.
Hi Stacey, what makes this song so good is that Queensryche is a very hard rock band that decided to make a slow song like this, and it is a beautiful song!!!!
Kind of the reverse of the experience for us who lived the beginning of Queensryche. When I heard "Queen of the Reich" I thought I found another band that could carry on the Iron Maiden feel and sound into the 90s but I loved how they evolved to include even this "Floyd-esque" song.
I don’t usually pay that much attention to lyrics and it’s more than often just the music that grabs me and decides if I love a song. However the lyrics to this song is crucial to the magic of the composition in my opinion. Plus the story behind the creation of the song makes my emotional response that much stronger.
Nice to see recognition of the fantastic drumming. Most reactions to this song revolve around the vocals or the meaning of the song, which definitely deserve their props. But Scott Rockenfield’s drumming is perfect on this

I strongly recommend "Eyes of a Stranger" from Operation Mind Crime
Jet City Woman is a jam! Great rock song!
I love this band. I never understood why they weren't more popular...
In a word...Grunge. Prog metal fell out of fashion.
Seeing your reactions….. took this incredible song to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL!! 😮. Never seen you before but need to follow you!!
Love your Christmas Tree, Stacey and, your heartfelt reactions are
so touching to watch. I always enjoy your channel.
Keep up the great work...👍👍
I’ve been to a lot of concerts I’ve seen them three times they were hands down the best sounding band I have ever heard
Most will say Take Hold of the Flame.
Find Killing Words acoustic version.
Another Rainy Night.
Someone Else.
And he is still doing it live, solo.
They have so many good songs.....👍
This track was a milestone recording of a generation. It's one of those magical musical artifacts that are created only very rarely.
Your listening to one of the greatest vocalists of our time.
And No Sanctuary for sure
THIS SONG IS PERFECTION
Saw them in 1992 in Southern California. Won the tickets on a radio station when they used to do that back in the day. I've seen alot of bands in my life however this band is one of my top 5 best concerts ever. Now Geoff Tate (the singer) is not a part of the band anymore which is sad but I have seen him solo and he still does this song it still hits the heart hard. There old stuff is still amazing and I hope you get a chance to experience it. Happy Holidays!!🎼🤘🎄🌹
Thanks for describing my soothing velvety yet deep voice, I sing this for Karaoke for years, Thank you for your first time reaction, great job.... Subscribed and loved.
I was a cool teen, when this one came out... Loved it then, love it now!
At 56-years of age, with this song being with me every year since that youth, I for sure title it: a masterpiece!!😍😍😍
Not being picky or pedantic I promise but this came out in 1990, so you were 21
@@denz180 Wtf!? Hahahaha... "It FELT like I was a teen then", alright!? Hahahaha ;-) No seriously - thank you for this!
Bottom line - for me there has been few songs that has been with me, through the years - but this is one of them. Amazing!
"Queen of the Reich" is one of their best, fast and heavy!!
1984 for Take Hold of the Flame live.
Beautiful woman reacting to a beautiful song. Great way to start my day. Thanks Stacey 👏🏻
You want to hear his range. You got to hear live in Japan. 'Take hold of the flame' 🔥
I saw Queensryche on this very tour. Great show.
Every time I listen to this song it brings tears to my eyes from being able to relate to it emotionally due to situations in my life. I’m glad you loved it Stacey 🙏🏻❤️🌹
One of the greatest ballads of all time ❤
yes
You're dead on, Tate REALLY holds back the extent of his voice in this song
This was one we knew in the 90's because it was a long haired dude who was always ranked top 5 for this video on MTV that year.
Then I was like what the hell is that dude doing ranked so high on the charts
Years later a friend asked me about if I ever heard of Queensryche. I said yeah and he played Eyes of A Stranger and then I really looked into the lyrics of this one as well ...
Ended up seeing them in concert at House of Blues in Orlando in mid 2000's. Amazing performance
Your reactions are always very nice to see.. Thank you for this one... 😊
To have any review of Queensryche is an honor to the Fans that have been there since day one. I hope you enjoy as we have.🖤🖤
A book could be written about Queensryche. The best prog band to ever come out of the US.
You're getting there. You have found the right songs, this and David Gilmore are on my playlist. Your reactions are quite like my own. Good job.
I first heard this in 1990 when i was 23. I wore out the cassette. Epic
Everyone has their own opinions but mine is, this is possibly the most incredibly written song I have or will ever hear. Love this song so much!!! ❤️
You would luv hearing the MTV unplugged version of I Will Remember
Yeah Geoff can sing with the best of them!!! Great song, this takes me back to my junior year in high school.
A classic! One of the first things I learned to play on guitar back when it was first released.
Great band! Suggest the songs Another Rainy Night, Take Hold of the Flame, Jet City Woman, Empire, off the top of my head. Far more great songs to hear and appreciate.
Quintessential power balad like we don’t make them anymore. Strings arrangement by Michael Kamen really takes it to another level. Beautiful 💕
You must listen to take hold of the flame to hear his to hear his range great reaction stac❤
I Don't Believe In Love, is another GREAT song by QueensRyche!!
His lower register is sooo beautiful.he tell story.not many singer can do that.
The Killing Words (MTV Unplugged) is a must listen! Actually the entire Unplugged performance is a must listen. Della Brown, I Will Remember, Suite Sister Mary….there are so many songs by Queensryche that should be explored
Hermosa Stacey.. esta canción para todos los que la disfrutamos desde el año 91 siempre será un clásico del rock. Un abrazo para tí
This is my favorite song to watch people react to for the first time. Geoff’s voice is extremely polished and developed, he can do it all and I definitely recommend checking out more of their stuff!
The look on your face when the guitar solo goes. Absolutely priceless
Yeah no doubt. Chris just lets his soul take over in this song. Fantastic job my friend
