And just like Rosanne, he isn’t the original Russell. I guess they had to go with the lame one. Anthony Michael Hall was too old probably. @@portalinathey changed the kids in every vacation movie. European Vacation was between this and the original. The kids were different in that one too.
No one ever notices the scene in WalMart where Clark puts a box of lightbulbs in the cart, only to have Eddie immediately crush them with a 50 pound bag of dog food. Makes me laugh every time.
This is one of the most popular Christmas movies here in Germany! It's almost a tradition in my family for over 33 years to watch this film at least once at Christmas time!
Aunt Bethany was an Original Voice Actress for Betty Boop,,,she Reprised her Role as Boop very shortly before Her passing in Who Framed Roger Rabbit,,,RIP🎄
Christmas Vacation is one of the rare 3rd installments that is better than the original. It doesn't hurt that Christmas Vacation is also one of the greatest Christmas movies ever made. So many great, classic moments. Thank you, John Hughes for giving us three of the best Christmas movies ever made.
This one and the first Vacation movie are the best ones of the series. Even more impressive is the fact the Chevy Chase did almost all of his own stunts and when he goes into the rant about his boss, where he's using all those off the wall insults, the director knew Chevy was going ad lib that part, so he told the rest of the cast to each think up an insult and write it on a card. Then, while all of their backs are to the camera and Chevy goes into his rant, they held up their cards, challenging him to use their words in the rant and he did it in one take. Also, the actress that plays Aunt Bethany, Mae Questel, played the famous classic cartoon characters, Betty Boop and Olive Oyl back in the 1930s and 1940s.
For me, it's my Christmas Eve movie, because it ends on Christmas Eve (and it's also my favorite Christmas movie, so I save it until almost last). Christmas Day, I watch A Christmas Story, since it ends on Christmas, lol.
This movie is unique in my opinion, because most others like to depict an absentee father or some other major flaw. Now obviously Clark is flawed, but he is such a family man and all he wants is for his family to have the best Christmas ever.
This reminds me of Christmas '89. I was 12 and my cousin, his wife and their new baby daughter spent Christmas at our house. It was one of the coolest times of my life.
They're fairly old in Vegas Vacation. Clark even mentions that he hardly recognizes them anymore. Also, the 2015 Vacation followed an adult Rusty, played by another actor of course. Also, I don't know if you want to consider it canon, but the promotional video Hotel Hell Vacation, has an adult Rusty in it.
Every single National Lampoon vacation movie ( four I think, original, European, Christmas, Las Vegas) the kids are different. It is one of the running gags that Clark will say something like they need to go on vacation because he doesn't even recognize the kids anymore. Sometimes the oldest is a boy, sometimes a girl.
The girl is the older sibling in all the movies. All of the Audrey actresses were older than the Rusty actors in real life, and Dana Barron (the original Audrey actress) said that Audrey was written as the older sibling.
I don't have much hope that you'll actually see this, but I'm sending it anyway: You two have become like honorary sisters, um, OK Nieces to me. It's truly a pleasure to spend time with you. Merry Christmas Cassie and Carly!
Carly, I didn't know you did impressions. The drum roll at the beginning of this video is in keeping with Helen's drum roll before Clark turns on the lights abf and opens his bonus.🎉
One of my favorites. Every year that my brothers and I get together for Christmas, we will sit around and just quote this movie until we are all crying from laughter 😂
One of my favourite Christmas movies. Me and my dad watch it every year! The older you get, the more you understand the “it’s Christmas and we’re all in misery” as well as Clark’s outburst and stress.
"Didn't that happen with our dog once? He chewed the lights" "Oh yeah he was totally electrocuted" "I think it affected his brain chemistry"🌲You girls are fun.
I was Clark Griswold for Halloween years ago, its one of the best costumes I've ever done, I had the Santa hat and the sweater with a toy squirrel glued to the back of it, I even won a costume contest with it, I still wear it at Christmas time
I recommend A Christmas Story. It's told from the perspective of a young boy obsessed with wanting a Red Rider BB gun with a compass in the stock. We watch it several times around Christmas.
This is the first one where they don't go anywhere. Also, the opening theme song isn't "Holiday Road". The younger brother is played by Johnny Galecki of "Big Bang Theory" fame!
They've been showing Christmas Vacation along with some other classic Christmas movies this season in a classic movie theater in the town I live in ❤🎄🌲🎁🎅
Hey Cassie! Just throwing in a movie suggestion: Captain Ron. Starring Martin Short and Kurt Russell. It’s a cult classic comedy and a very fun adventure. One of Kurt Russell’s most fun and quotable movies, and he’s hilarious in it! Martin Short is fantastic as well. You won’t be disappointed, I promise! Thanks! And glad you finally watched Christmas Vacation! 😊
This movie was actually a lot more stressful than I remember. If you just want to relax for the holidays it brings back a bit of ptsd. lol. Kind of a gnarly time of year in a lot of ways.
This movie is my main Christmas tradition. I've seen it probably a hundred times and will see it just as many more times before I kick the bucket, lol.
The boy actor who plays the son is Johnny Galecki. Who plays the character David in a tv show, Rosanne. Also, he plays the scientist Leonard Hofstadter in The Big Bang Theory.
And just like Rosanne, he isn’t the original Russell. I guess they had to go with the lame one. Anthony Michael Hall was too old probably. He plays the asshole Winona Ryder is dating just one year later in Edward Scissorhands. In fact, he probably couldn’t do this one because he was filming Edward. Also he really did look too old.
Cassie said she's seen it a few times, but not in 10 years or so. I don't know if I would forget much about this crazy movie, even if I didn't watch it yearly!!
I don’t care what anyone says. Saying someone’s heart is bigger than their brain is a huge compliment. It’s not your fault if you’re not smart. It is your fault if you’re not nice.
this film brings back so many memorys watching my grandfather and grand mother both laughing at this movie with silly christmas paper hats on.. i miss those days.
In the scene where Clark goes on his tirade everybody standing in front of him was wearing signs that had his lines just to make sure it could go smoothly.
My little "never noticed before" moment this year was when Eddie plays with that little candle powered windmill. Never noticed it before, but when it falls apart, he makes a "What the hell?" gesture
This movie just never gets old. 35 years later and we are still quoting this movie. “Surprised Eddie? If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn into the carpet, I wouldn’t be as surprised as I am right.”.
I cant believe were doing Christmas Vacation FINALLY! Since she watched "Vacation", I've been hoping this one would come around the holidays! Its a Christmas MIRACLE! ❤
watched this movie every year in december since it came out. I like it. You can take each character and relate him with someone in the family: the drunk uncle, the old aunt losing memory, and so on.....Thanks to both of you for the memories.
The kids are played by different actors in every Vacation movie. There aren't even consistent ages of the kids from one movie to the next. It was a running gag. When Christmas Vacation was out originally, I hadn't gone sledding in years. But I learned later that spraying Pam cooking spray on the bottom of your sled was actually a thing and suddenly the scene in the movie got that much funnier.
not sure if its mentioned but.....Mae Questel as Clark's Aunt Bethany provided the voices for the animated characters Betty Boop (1931) and Olive Oyl (1933) along with alot of other cartoon voices.
The kid who plays Clark's son Russ, is Johnny Galecki, who played Leonard on The Big Bang Theory.
Yep! He was also on Roseanne back in the day
And just like Rosanne, he isn’t the original Russell. I guess they had to go with the lame one. Anthony Michael Hall was too old probably. awww, you're not a "no one", you're a someone!
I’ve seen this move a million times and I never have noticed that before
I point this out everytime i watch it haha. My favorite gag in the movie
My Dad had a Christmas t-shirt that said “you serious, Clark?” He wore it every Christmas. I miss him.
I think my pop has, "Kiss my ass. Kiss his ass. Kiss your ass. Happy Hanukkah."
@nicks.5552 you alright mate. dunno what to say.. except I miss her as well. take care mate !
My late dad once left our house and said "Merry Christmas. Your shytter is full." He didn't flush on purpose. My wife was NOT amused. 😂
My friend was wearing that just the other day.
My dad had one that said "Sh*tter was full" with the a graphic of the scene of Eddie with the hose and the RV.

ours too 🎉
100% A family favorite. At least once a year
Its a classic here in the US.
I laugh every time, no matter how many times I watch it..Just isn't Christmas without this movie.
“And, why is the carpet all wet, Todd?”
“I don’t know, Margo.”
It's Margaux, like the Chateau Margaux wine.
@@elessartelcontar9415 Nah, character in this one is spelled "Margo Chester", per the movie's credits. Likely short for Margaret.

The dramatic way they say those lines is so hilarious to me. It's one of my favorite quotes from the movie.
Greatest line in a movie “hallelujah, holy sh**, where’s the Tylenol?”
I love that whole rant, but I think my favorite line is "You couldn't hear a dump truck driving through nitroglycerin plant!"
“Worse? Look around you, Ellen! We are standing on the threshold of Hell!” has consistently my favorite line.😊
Aunt Bethany was an Original Voice Actress for Betty Boop,,,she Reprised her Role as Boop very shortly before Her passing in Who Framed Roger Rabbit,,,RIP🎄
She was also the actual character model as well.
She was also Olive Oyl
