Just an FYI. On a GE dryer, If the belt is broken, the unit will start when depressing start button but will shut down as soon as you let off. That is GE dryers only.

My GE. DRYER MODEL GTD33EASKOWW BELT BROKE BUT I STILL HEARD THE MOTOR WORKING. UPON TAKING THE DRYER A PART IT SO FILLED UP WITH OTHER THAN THE LINT CATCHER IN THE DOOR. I USED MY SMALL SHOP VAC. AND THOROUGHLY CLEANED EVERY WHERE. REPLACED THE BELT AND ALL THE SLIDE BEARINGS WHERE THE DRUM RUBS AGAINST. PUT THE DRYER ALL BACK TOGETHER NOW IT DOES NOTHING AT ALL!!! CHECKED ALL THE WIRING FOR LOOSE CONNECTIONS BUT NOTHING. PULLED EVERYTHING A PART AGAIN AND RECONNECTED THE DOOR SWITCH BUT STILL NOTHING. THE DRYER IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. 👍👍 AS IM ON A FIXED INCOME.

Thanks for the great information... I pulled the door switch off from the front and gave it a test... it failed, so rather than ordering a new one. I disassembled the old one and cleaned up the contacts 👍🏼 success! Thanks again man!

Mine would bump but not start. After clicking the door switch and cleaning the door lint, same thing. I switched the plugs between my washer and dryer and it started right up! But now my washer won't work! ...I guess I'll be putting in a new wall plug today.

I have the same dryer and it will not start. I've checked the door switch and start knob and they both have good continuity. What else could it be?
Do you hear any noises when you press start?
I have same dryer and same issue. My switch is good but for what i read it’s the thermo switch. I believe it’s in the top of from panel but haven’t been able to find how to remove backing of front cover to get to it. Any thoughts? Did you fix yours?

Heck I just blasted the cleaner into the cracks..like a lot....
it pooled a bit on the concrete..annnnddd...
IT worked!! Didn't even have to remove one screw!!
You can pull it out slightly on each end kinda cattywampus...but heck this was a $10 dollar fix!!!

You unplugged it and then checked the door for continuity. It won’t tell you if there’s power if it’s unplugged right?
It won’t show power but will show continuity when unplugged.

My GE Dryer is supposed to start when I turn a knob, but it doesn't "click" on, its just loose / "squishy feeling. Any ideas? I think the load may have been too heavy. Is there some kind of fuse I could check, or a reset switch?

Thank you. Your tutorial video helped me repair my GE Gas Dryer this morning Exact problem. Removing Cleaning the door switch contacts fixed the problem.

Thank You! Dryer was working yesterday, but not this morning. Went to turn the knob and nothing. Cleaned lint build up around the door and seal and it works. You saved me a call to the repair person.

I think you need to replace the start relay that lives in the console near the start button.

Our dryer is not hot when you hold up the hot stick to it. We replaced the thermal fuse but still not hot. Any advice?

Whay if light does not come on inside Dryer when door is opened. Switch Control light to I checked All Breakers and thier Power in 220 line.

My problem is a little deeper I think. I got a good signal off my door switch. But I'm still a little suspect of it. And from what I can tell everything is fine electrically. Any other ideas??
I know they won’t start if the belt switch is having trouble. Maybe a broken belt?
When I press the start button, it is on but it doesn’t sound like it’s spinning.
Can you hear anything when it should be spinning?

hi what if door switch works and clicks with light on will it be the thermal fuse then that i need to replace cause its blown?

I have GE dryer...would not start. Timer knob very hard to turn. Light working inside. Was going to order new timer and knob. Went to check color of knob prior to placing order, when I decided to pull knob off another selector/function .. I have 4 knobs on panel all alike. I put it on timer...turned it to dryer setting and pushed start. IT WORKS !!! YAY !!! Still working and turning smoothly. Go figure. Try it and see...hope it works for you.

GTD42EASJ2WW start button doesn't give there is a spring behind. Light works. I want to replace the thermal fuse or the start button.plug is ok.

I have a model# GHDP490EF0WW ge dryer, its the one from the thumbnail, the belt is conected, and it heats properly. My issue is that when i push the start button it starts but as soon as i release the button it stops. Would you recommend me checking the door switch?
For more info the switch seams to stick a little when pushed in. I am currently just holding down the start button with painters tape and it is working with that, but I would like to get it working properly.

Are they suppose to click when pressing the door switch in?
What's the reason for only connecting 2 of the wires on the door switch. I tested my switch and the outer terminal (90 degree angle side) does not have continuity. The other 2 are fine but I do not know if I should leave the one on the end off. I saw you did not connect the middle terminal but there is no explanation. Thank you in advance.

My dryer has a more modern control panel than the one in this video, and just this morning when I go to start the dryer it allows me to select all the settings and press the start button and I even get the little chime when I press the start button but the dryer doesn't actually start spinning. Do you think it could still be this same issue here with the door switch?
I also have a more modern digital control panel GE dryer (GTD65EBSJ2WS) that allows me to turn on the power, but when I press the start button, it just clicks. Did you ever figure out the problem with yours? I'm going to see if the there is any resistance with manually spinning the drum (bad belt) and go from there.
