I had my own Appliance repair business for 37 years and no one ever mentions this but do not open the dryer door while the dryer is running!! If the temperature is at max heat and you open the door it can blow the thermal fuse. Always turn the timer to the cool down position for at least 1 minute before you open the door!
If a dryer got wet and when she plugged it in sparked at the plug and the back of dryer .breaker reset getting nothing you think it should blow the thermal fuse .I'm not there but I can have my friend deal with it. I want to lead them in the right direction
You're worth whatever you're making in advertising! My issue was the exact same as yours, ordered the part on amazon, put the new thermal fuse in, and saved me $500 by not buying a new dryer. THANK YOU!
You are very welcome. You do need to make sure you locate the blockage that caused the fuse to blow though. It’s usually either in your vent hose or behind the fan shroud. The Part 2 video discusses this in detail.
Wanted to say thank you for walking me through this step by step. My dryer is back in business! You saved me hundreds of dollars in repair bills or a replacement. Thanks again!
Just wanted to stop by and say thank you! You saved my husband and I around $160. Our fuse was out but once we changed the fuse, our dryer now works great!
Rebecca Nichols I appreciate you taking the time to leave a kind comment and you are welcome. I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. It may blow again if you don’t fix the cause of it blowing. This video shows how to clean your dryer. ua-cam.com/video/40_H44ZQglk/v-deo.html
OMG I wish I would have watch this yesterday cuz I went to the laundromat and spent $55 thinking my dryer was after watching your video and checking a few things I finally realized that there is a fuse box that has a washer and dryer on it and I what the switches like you said and v ala my dryer is back in business! Thank you so much this video was very informative I like the way you kept reminding people to unplug first LOL
Your video is a life safer, my dryer wont turn on, i checked d settings it was fine, plugged nd unplugged from d wall, checked the socket looked fyne, checked d latch looked fyne. I was outta ideas and getting worried about how much a tech will cost me then i stumbled on your video, 2min into the video turns out it was my breaker! I feel like a tech already lol
Great video! I figured a dryer was a fairly simple appliance, but knew nothing about one; until I watched this video. I followed TightWad's instructions and sure enough, the thermal fuse was burned out. For seven bucks and about 30 minutes, I saved no telling how much money, by not not needing an appliance technician. Thanks for producing this video and making me a hero in my wife's eyes. 😁
That's cute. I'm sure my hubby would like to be the hero in my eyes also. I need to get him to watch this video because our start button isn't turning the drier on.
I followed your directions step-by-step (thank you for stressing unplugging the dryer - always think safety) and it was the thermal fuse. When I went back to Lowe’s to cancel the new dryer, the customer service rep said she could tell how excited I was that I had fixed the dryer myself! Thank you, thank you, thank you - this fix saved me $567.00, plus I gained a new skill.
That’s great! You need to check out the follow up video. The fuse likely blew because you have a clog of lint somewhere. It could be in your hose but my issue was by the fan behind the fan shroud.
You are amazeballs. My repairman has been charging me upwards of $80-$100 to fix my dryer each time, when he knew all along it was a $10 fix. Thank you!
I vote you fire that repair man if he has fixed the same fuse more than once. You need to find the source of the issue. Watch Part 2 to see what could be causing it.
Well, the money was to pay for his time, right? The part is $10. But he can't come out to your home and do a repar for free!! Of course, if the same issue keeps happening to your dryer, then he needs to find the real reason and repair.
This video is AMAZING! We were already shopping for new dryers, when I thought to myself "I should see if there's a UA-cam video of easy fixes for dryers." Light works but dryer won't turn on - - told the hubs how to test the thermal fuse (based on this video), he tested and it's a blown thermal fuse. I ran the dryer for probably 6 hours yesterday when it died. Taking this opportunity to clean out the lint too! Thank you thank you!!!!
THANK YOU!! My dryer just stopped, all of a sudden. Not what I needed on a Saturday afternoon, in the middle of multiple loads of laundry. 2 minutes into your video, and I found my problem. You saved me a service charge for a repair guy to come out and tell me that my breaker had tripped. For this, I will subscribe. :-)
Just have to say I am having a TON of FUN just reading all of the comments posted! I now know what I need to do...annnd this 60 yr ole gal is just thanking you AHEAD of time. Thank you . Truly. 👍
That’s great! Just make sure you find the cause of the issue and don’t just change the fuse! It will just blow again. The follow up video I posted is helpful.
Dryer still not working? PART 2 ua-cam.com/video/wsl2Y7UbNGo/v-deo.html discusses additional things that could cause your dryer not to work properly. Thermal fuse blew? You likely have a blockage causing your dryer to overheat. It’s important to locate and clear the blockage. The video linked below shows how to do this.
My dryer went out and after checking the door sensor (which I replaced a few years ago), I did a Google search and your video popped up. Turns out it was the thermal fuse. We have a store in town called U Fix It. I called them at 5:20 (they close at 6). They had the part, which cost more than what you paid (about $17). I raced over, picked it up, replaced the old one, and I’m back up and running! Thanks for this video! Saved me time and about $100 or more labor cost! What’s also cool is my dryer is a Kenmore like yours, very similar.
twra1 That’s great! Be sure you find the source of the overheating or the fuse will blow again. Here is a video with more information. ua-cam.com/video/wsl2Y7UbNGo/v-deo.html
I bought a used dryer, and it didn’t start, I did the steps in this video and the thermal fuse was blown. I watched about 7 video’s and yours ways very helpful. I appreciate you sharing you save the day❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for your video. I came home today and my wife told me the dryer wasn't working. I followed the steps in your video and I was able to narrow it down to the thermal fuse. Fortunately our local McLendon's had the part in stock so I was able to get the dryer up and running this evening. Kaz
So I dried some pants the day before and my dryer was working fine. Today I went to hit the start button on my Whirlpool dryer and I heard a very feint click. It didn't sound like the normal start button noise. After watching a few videos online, people said mostly likely it's your thermal fuse. No one ever said I could bypass the circuit just as a test like you showed in your video. I did exactly as you did and my dryer started up. So now I know it's my thermal fuse and I will have to order it. No store around here sells them. Thanks for that information about a temporary bypass for testing purposes only!
Ton Truong That’s great! Did you discover the source of your overheating? You need to check your vent hose and the fan housing. If you don’t fix the source of the issue, it will just blow again.
I listened to the fact that due to the voltage- there is usually a dedicated breaker for the dryer. I thought I checked all my breakers when I did some electrical work last week, but missed the dryer. Saved me some money. Thanks!
OMG..this guy is awesome..I actually sat and watched this like I was watching a TV show...I feel like I can fix ALL dryers now😁...oh I forgot all about fixing my dryer😆
Thank you sir you resolved my issue. I opened my dryer door this morning to dry some cloths and the light was not on I assumed the light bulb was burned out no biggie then realized I had no initial power. Followed your suggestions step by step and my problem was the breaker had tripped flipped it back on and now my dryer is functioning properly. Once again, THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for this video! I was able the test my thermal switch as you instructed and determined it was defective. Got a new part and installed it myself! You made it so easy! Saved me a bundle of money! Made me happy!
Beverly Terry That’s great! I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. Be sure to check for clogs in your vent hose. The fuse is meant to blow to prevent a fire from overheating.
My dryer went out as we are dealing with the coronavirus. Your video was a perfect example of how you make videos for amateurs. It was my thermal fuse. Thanks
Thank you so much. Our dryer never stops when we open or close the door and has always been like that. Today we attempted to dry clothes and the dryer would not turn on at all and we only used it last evening and it worked so we were quite surprised when it quit today. I watched your video as we had never noticed a switch to indicate the door opening or closing. We tugged on it a little bit and my son heard a click. We plugged it back in and the dryer started. Thanks because we had already started the process of looking for a new dryer.
Jenn Richardson I recommend you go ahead and go through the other diagnosis in this video. Does your door switch make the light turn on or off now when you press it?
@@TightWadDIY Hi it is an apartment size dryer so it does not have a light. I noticed the door switch has never worked since we have owned it. I think it maybe the problem because when I open and close the door and press the button it makes a noise like it wants to start but then doesn't. Can't find a dryer fix it man either.....
Wasn't sure what to do with those 2 wires from the thermal fuse, but I followed your instructions and BAM, my dryer started right up. Ordered a pack of 3 from Amazon, arriving tomorrow. Your video saved me a couple hundred bucks for sure, thanks.
That’s great! Make sure you locate the cause of the issue. The follow up video linked in the pinned comment and description will show you some places to check. If you don’t fix the cause, it will happen again.
This video helped this newly single mom easily fix my dryer. It was the thermal fuse, and your video and simple instructions were fantastic. Thank you so much. A $10 part and in stock at a local applicance repair shop and I was good to go. The downside? Now, I have no excuse to not do the mountain of laundry..
I’m glad you found the issue. However, you likely have a clog somewhere which caused the fuse to blow. Watch the follow up video linked in the description.
Hi I just want to come back here and thank you so much for doing this video. I’m a woman and my mommy’s Maytag dryer stopped working and I found your video and I purchased a thermal fuse from Home Depot and it solved the problem and my mom’s dryer is working. I’m so thankful I found your video. I was nervous I didn’t know if I could even be able to do it right or not but I’m proud of myself It’s working great!! 😊 I also subscribed to your channel and Thanks again!! 🙏😊
Great video. I had an idea of what was wrong, but now have more things to check. And I'm feeling confident now that I can figure out what's wrong & fix it myself. No repairman or new dryer. Thank you!!
DUDE U HAVE NO CLUE THE TIME I Spent TODAY TRYING TO FIX MY ELDERLY MOTHERS DRYER. YOUR TRICK TO CONNECT thermal TWO WIRES WAS IT. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE STARTER SWITCH . HAD BOTH APART. DONT HAVE A MULTIMETER. SO YOUR TEST ON thermal fuse answered it. Thanks a lot. Saved me time tomorrow and tons money. Hope all is well.
Dennis Massie I’m glad you were able to figure it out. Now you need to find the blockage that caused the fuse to blow. It’s typically in the vent hose or outside vent. If it’s not there, you will have to remove the cover over the fan and clean it out. If you don’t do this, the new fuse will just blow again.
Just wanted to say thanks, for posting this video! I was able to check out my dryer, order the fuse & put it back together, fortunately for me, you saved me a lot of time & money! (Repairman was scheduled 2 months out!) Thanks again! ☺
I’m glad you got it fixed. Make sure you check for a clog. It may have overheated and blew the fuse. If so, it will happen again if you don’t address the cause.
@TightWadDIY what do you mean by a clog , within the lint area on out ? once on, it blew air out of exhaust seem fined . thxs for replying and giving me a heads-up. i ordered the kit from amazon , and I figured now that i have it dismantled, I might as well replace all the other electronics. what do you think ?
TightWadDIY, thank you SO MUCH!!! I was able to narrow it down to the thermal fuse and I was able to get the part! I thought the motor went out and I was going to order that but I saw this video and said to myself let me watch this one. I am glad I did! Thank you so much for paying it forward. God Bless You!!!
Thank you for this detailed video. My dryer stopped spinning. I took it apart to find a broken belt. I replace the belt and it wouldn’t spin. I tested the resistors, belt switch, and the fuses and all seemed well. I use your method of bypass the thermal fuse to see if it was the thermal fuse and the drying started right up. Save me a service visit or $$$$ for a new dryer. Thank You!! Had to give the video a like.
My dryer went out on Saturday. I just found this video and I got as far as taping the 2 blue wires together...it works so far! I just ordered the thermal fuse from Amazon, hoping that once I install it I experience the same success as you. Update coming in about 24 hours.
Update, I meant to get back to this sooner...but the thermal fuse you linked came in and after following your instructions I’m happy to say my dryer is working again. Thanks man.
For broke mamas who have to diy repairs...you are a LIFESAVER. I was about to buy a new dryer. Id done all the tricks but the fuse. :) $7 was cheaper than $700
Kelly McCulley I’m glad I was able to help! You need to also clean or change your dryer vent hose. If the thermal fuse blew, it could be a sign of poor airflow causing overheating. Try to also clean inside the vent path on the dryer itself to make sure there are so obstructions.
Oh my gosh I just ordered a $50 start switch and installed it. Dryer still wouldn’t work so I found your video and decided to check the breaker box on the wall. I’m an idiot. Seriously the breaker was flipped. I’ve been hang drying my family’s clothes for a week! Lol. Well thanks for saving me any further money I would have spent! 😃 BTW I am so not telling my husband it was just the breaker box. Lol
@ TightWadDIY, I just had to pause your video and THANK YOU for stressing to unplug the dryer before testing any connections, etc. I get absentminded sometimes, and it never occurred to me to unplug the dryer. I'm just shaking my head at my stupidity to not think of that myself. So thank you very much!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I fixed my issue, it was the breaker. I was sad that I would have to either pay someone to fix it or get another one. You are a life saver💕
Cruz Garza You are welcome! If it was your thermal fuse, you should watch the follow up video to see if you can determine what caused it to blow. If you don’t fix the issue it will just blow again.
Thanks for the help. It was the thermal fuse I asked a repair man how much it would've cost if he would've repaired it and he replied 189 minimum. Thanks!!!!
Wow. That’s expensive! Make sure you check for clogs. Part 2 of the video shows where they are typically found. If you don’t address the blockage, it will just blow again.
Thank you. just finished troubleshooting if its the fuse by bypassing it as you've done. Yep blown fused. Just order a couple from Amazon. Thanks again.
V Hawk Good! That’s an easy and cheap fix. Be sure you watch my follow up video. You should go ahead and replace your vent hose and clean out the inside of the dryer too.
That’s great! While you are waiting, pull off the lint trap housing and vacuum around the fan. That’s where my blockage was that caused the fuse to blow.
Thats exactly what I thought is to just test the thermal fuse using continuity. I did that and I heard a beep which means my thermal fuse is good. What could be another reason why my Maytag wont start?
Thanks for this! Had people telling me to buy new or call a repair man. I did the thermal fuse test and knew what it was right away. Got the fuse the next day. Problem solved. Saved big time. Thanks! 👍
Thermal fuses blow for a reason; especially when the dryer is connected to a long vent run. Always check and clean the vent, remove obstructions before replacing the fuse.
Thanks for this video! I thought it was the start switch on my dryer. You showing how to jump my thermal fuse, which diagnosed the problem. Saved me a lot of time! A squirrel was able to get inside the outside vent and deposit acorns down the vent hose, which caused a blockage and overheat.
Thanks, i had that problem with my dryer. It suddenly stopped drying. I work with electricity and taping the 2 connectors was not a problem. Amazing how such a small part can make the whole machine not work. Thank you for taking the time to help people.
Your video helped me diagnose the problem of my parent’s dryer! Ordered the part and hopefully will come tomorrow! I’m sure it will start to work again no problem! Ty so much!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Lonte Jay I’m glad you found the video! Be sure to subscribe. If yours was the thermal fuse, you need to figure out what caused it to overheat. I have a follow up video showing where the issue could be.
Thank, thank you sooooo much for this video. I followed your awesome instructions step by step and at the age of 63 and female was able to repair my Kirkland whirlpool dryer. You made me feel comfortable working with the electrical part. My total repair amount to fix dryer was a little over $25, I'm sure I saved myself alot of money, for something as simple as this. My advise to women is don't be afraid to try and repair things like this you will save money. Again thanks for your DIY.
Yes! That’s great! Be sure you check out the follow up video linked in the pinned comment. If your thermal fuse was blown you need to determine what caused it. That video shows why mine blew.
Thank you sir for the easiest fix ever. Just so happened your video came up first and I had an identical dryer. Light inside has been burned out for a while so I went straight to the temp fuse in the back. Taped together and bingo. Just ordering the part now. You just made my day. Thanks again.
Ty Brunson That’s great! The thermal fuse typically blows due to an obstruction in your vent. Be sure to clean your vent hose, lint trap, and maybe even behind the fan shroud. I will link another video below showing how to do this.
This was by far the best video I saw on this topic. Was worried I would need a multi meter because I have nominal electrical experience. Tried the thermal fuse bypass and found my problem by replacing the $5 part, as opposed to the service call. Thanks for your video.
Yes! Thank you! Your third step, checking that little panel (red, white, black) in the back of the unit led me to believe the outlet might be loose. I was getting the correct readings (125, 125, 250). Sure enough, I wiggled the wire and the light inside the drum blinked in and out. Thanks for your help!
Thank you so much for your video. This is exactly what I need. I tested the dryer by connecting the two blue wires and turned on my dryer really quick just to see if it turned on just like you did. Dryer turned on, turned it off immediately and disconnected the two blue wires. And now I know it was the problem so I got on Amazon and ordered 2 fuses. It will be here in 2 days and I will have my dryer back. You saved me a lot of money. Thank you again. If course I subscribed and hit the notification bell. Have a wonderful day. Liz
The Jewelry Store I’m glad you discovered your issue. You need to also figure out why it blew. The thermal fuse is made to blow if the dryer overheats. Check out this follow up video to see the most common places that need cleaning. ua-cam.com/video/40_H44ZQglk/v-deo.html
Awesome video! I was able to use your method to test and see if it was the thermal fuse and confirmed that it was. Ordered the part as soon as I could and waiting so I can fix it. Thanks for this!
That’s great! Make sure you find the blockage or it will blow again. I made a follow up video showing where mine was. There is a link to the video in the description and pinned comment.
I followed you step by step... Thank you for this great post! I found the Thermal fuse at our local appliance parts store. It was just a few dollars more than Amazon but, worth it instead of calling for a repairman or a replacement. Up and Running!!!
If it was the switch, make sure you find out why it blew. The video linked in the pinned comment shows what caused my issue. You have an air flow issue somewhere.
First, thank you for the video. It has helped quite a bit but my dryer seems to have an underlying issue. When I went to use it there was no power at all. Checked the breaker and tested the cord and both were fine. Took the back off and emptied vent in back. Took off the Thermal fuse and taped the wires and it worked. Replaced the thermal fuse and hooked everything back up and it worked for a couple loads. The next day it wouldn't run. Checked the breaker and the cord. The cord tested 240 from right to left but only 10-11 from right to middle and from middle to left. The outlet (3prong) tested 240 from right to left and 120 right to middle and from middle to left. So I replaced the cord and retested. The cord then showed the correct voltage. The dryer ran for a couple loads but the next day it wouldn't run. Now the new cord is testing 240 from right to left but only 10-11 from right to middle and from middle to left. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Or what I should try next?
Thank you brother!!! My dryer (old POS that it is) had the light on but it would not start. I checked everything (element, fuses, main power) then I found your video and saw that a common cause was the little PLASTIC switch on the door frame!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! The laundry is getting dried this evening because of my jerry-rigged fix! I took on of those bulk paper clips (the smallest one I could find) and wedges it in the door and it helped make the door long enough to trigger the switch! lol. FIXED IT! (for now). Thanks again!
Ask Lovely It’s very unsafe to run the dryer without this fuse. You likely have a lint build up cause it to overheat which can cause a fire. Be sure to follow my other video showing how to check for obstructions.
Thanks so much for your awesome video, it was the thermal switch and following your instruction in the video was able to diagnose it in 5 to 10 minutes. I know you saved me at least 150 bucks, considering the appliance place that I went to just gave me the thermal sensor for free.
Thanks my friend I was worried about having to buy a new dryer and I came across your video and it is exactly what I did tried the terminal fuse trick taped the wires together and it works I will put in a new fuse. Thanks again my friend.
Both my washer and dryer are old school no unnecessary sensors like over load or door sensor needed to run. They have been running great with no problems since I bought them for $100 each 5 years ago. They are the heavy duty types you find at the laundromat they are much bigger than the new high tech fancy ones that cost a fortune at the big box stores.
Nicki Stacy Were you able to find the blockage causing the failure? Click the link in the pinned comment to see a video where I show my blockage. It’s typically in the vent hose or behind the fan shroud. If you don’t address the issue, the fuse will blow again.
You are the man! I have an Amana ned4655ew1 that wouldn't start. I tested the continuity on the switch and then the thermal fuse. The switch was fine but not the fuse. I briefly "hot wired" it as you demonstrated, bypassing the thermal fuse and bam...the dryer started. Now I've got a replacement 3392519 on the way. This saved me having to go buy a new dryer. Thank you!!!
Thanks. I cleaned out all the lint from the dryer and the ductwork leading out. I think the biggest problem was my teenage son seriously overloading it.
Still is blowing the thermal fuse after making sure there are no clogs. I'm thinking the control board isn't working correctly. Do you have any videos on diagnosing / replacing it? Thanks again!
JUST A NOTICE!!! My dryer would not start. I checked everything, EVERYTHING, before taking it apart to test the motor. When I had performed the continuity test on the white & blue wire connect and then the white & black wire connect into the motor switch, everything was good. SO!! I did a VOLTAGE TEST where I put a jump wire for the door switch to mimic the door being closed. I put my multimeter on ACV 250. I plugged the dryer in. Set the timer to heat dry and pushed the start switch. BOO-YAH!!! It worked. So then I removed the multimeter probes from the connection and tried the start switch again. It is still working. APPARENTLY when I had pushed those probes into the wire harness, I snugged up a loose wire. EVERYONE told me that it was VERY rare that a motor would go bad on a Whirlpool dryer, especially a 3 year old dryer. I was about to load this dryer up and take it to a parts shop to put a new motor in. WHEW!!! Saved a few hundred dollars by checking everything.
Thank you sir. Followed your instructions totally ( of course after I already bench tested push start switch)..which was fine. Then I tested fuse. That was it. Diagnosed 20 min after dryer failure and will grab the fuse after work. THANKS AGAIN !!
Jenny Orr That’s great! If your thermal fuse failed, you likely have an air flow issue. Check your vent hose and remove the fan shroud to ensure nothing is preventing the fan from moving.
@@TightWadDIY Yes! Thank You. I have already blown out the back and my air vent system is clear..I will remove the fan shroud then later when I get home with the fuse. Thanks again.. !
Thank you so much, being a novice, I of course swapped out the two fuses and then found out they were good and finally found out my 220 line at the dryer end broke terminal. I should have checked that first!!!!!!! (Ugh). Anyhow, you saved me at least $150.00 by not calling a repair person.
Thank you for putting up this video!! I went down checked out dryer I was going to smash it but you showed me something about a door switch. So I went downstairs an open my dryer an it was broken..So I put some tape an work Ed..I want to thank you for putting up this video..
Thank you for posting this. I followed every step and found my thermal fuse was blown. Save me tons in doing it myself than having someone come take a look at it
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video!! Walked into our laundry room this afternoon and smelled burning. The dryer has been running fine all day but now it won’t start. Unplugged it/replugged it and nothing. The breaker isn’t tripped but I turned it off/on, still nothing. Dryer vent is clean. I guess I’ll need to check the hose and outside vents (side of the house and roof?). Will see if I can’t check the other items mentioned in the video this weekend. Don’t believe the dryer light was working. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!
Daniel Garber It does sounds like you have a blockage. I made a second video showing more of the issues you may have with your dryer. I show how to test most of the possible issues on a dryer. Check it out and see if it help. ua-cam.com/video/wsl2Y7UbNGo/v-deo.html
Hooray! Thank you so much. I followed your instructions. Just flipped the circuit breaker off then in! Yippeee. Again, thank you for the easy-to-follow directions!!!👍
I had my own Appliance repair business for 37 years and no one ever mentions this but do not open the dryer door while the dryer is running!! If the temperature is at max heat and you open the door it can blow the thermal fuse. Always turn the timer to the cool down position for at least 1 minute before you open the door!
Thank You for the tip 👍
@@marcusaurelius8621 thermal fuses are on both electric and gas

Why would opening dryer door blow a fuse? It sounds like it caused the fuse to shrink too fast, or something.

Perfect video! Used your taping method to test the thermal fuse & it worked. It's now unplugged waiting on a $5 fuse from Amazon. Thanks!
While you’re waiting, find the clog. Mine was around the fan. It overheated and blew the fuse.
Just wanted to stop by and say thank you! You saved my husband and I around $160. Our fuse was out but once we changed the fuse, our dryer now works great!

Yes! Cleaning the lint is key to preventing it from blowing again. Part two of the video shows even more ways to check your dryer.
That’s great! I’m glad it was something easy! Use this as a reminder to clean out your dryer vent. Blockages can be very dangerous.
1 minute 21 seconds watching I paused the video and went to check the switch. I have a dryer again. You have my most respectful bow. Thank you.
Great! I’m glad it was something easy!
Great Video! Just tried your testing trick and my dryer started right up. $7 fix instead of buying a new dryer.
boothguru Awesome! I’m glad you were able to get it fixed.
@@TightWadDIY I want to know, why my GE 7.2 CU DRYER ID NOT GETTING HOT? DO YOU KNOW? I NEED HELP.
@@honeyofoats5619 Watch the Part 2 video. It address some additional causes.
Make sure you check out Part 2. If you don’t find the source of the issue, it will blow again.
@@TightWadDIY wow. Ok. I will do that. Thank you. It’s running good so far.
I also had to do a ton of cleanup. A lot of lint. I did a thorough cleaning.
Just fixed my dryer for $5 thanks to you. I don’t know what I ever done before UA-cam!
twra1 That’s great! Be sure you find the source of the overheating or the fuse will blow again. Here is a video with more information. ua-cam.com/video/wsl2Y7UbNGo/v-deo.html
I feel the same way. Lost without YT..
I bought a used dryer, and it didn’t start, I did the steps in this video and the thermal fuse was blown. I watched about 7 video’s and yours ways very helpful. I appreciate you sharing you save the day❤️❤️❤️
That’s great! I’m glad you got it fixed!
Thank you for your video. I came home today and my wife told me the dryer wasn't working. I followed the steps in your video and I was able to narrow it down to the thermal fuse. Fortunately our local McLendon's had the part in stock so I was able to get the dryer up and running this evening.
Kaz
I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. You need to find the reason it blew though. Otherwise it will blow again. Part 2 of the video helps with that.
Hey, a Washington guy!!
You’re welcome. Now make sure you find your clog that made it overheat and blow the fuse.
After following your instructions to change new thermal fuse , my Maytag electric dryer works greatly. Saving money and time. Thanks
Thanks!
Amanda Coyazo That’s great! I’m glad you were able to get it figured out.
OMG..this guy is awesome..I actually sat and watched this like I was watching a TV show...I feel like I can fix ALL dryers now😁...oh I forgot all about fixing my dryer😆
Haha. I’m glad you enjoyed it. The follow up video is much better!
That’s great! I’m glad it was something easy!
Thanks
Make sure you find the reason it blew. Check your vent line and around the fan. Those are the two most common places it gets clogged.
Ok
Thank you so much. Our dryer never stops when we open or close the door and has always been like that. Today we attempted to dry clothes and the dryer would not turn on at all and we only used it last evening and it worked so we were quite surprised when it quit today. I watched your video as we had never noticed a switch to indicate the door opening or closing. We tugged on it a little bit and my son heard a click. We plugged it back in and the dryer started. Thanks because we had already started the process of looking for a new dryer.
Jenn Richardson This is such a rewarding story. I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. Thank you for sharing. Be sure to subscribe!
Well... it stopped again shortly after this post and I have not been able to get it back on again. sigh....
Thank you!!
You’re welcome! Be sure to check out the follow up video. It has even more details and tips.
All of that is covered in the Part 2 video linked in the pinned comment and description.
Thank you for verifying that I could temporarily bypass thermal unit. Perhaps saved a few bucks and also get the satisfaction of repairing myself.

Good video. I can do minor repairs myself, but this video made it a lot easier to repair. Thanks for the video.
James Blaney I’m glad you found it helpful. Part 2 has even more ways to test the dryer.

thermo fuse was bad. followed your video right to the issue.
That’s great news!
Make sure you find the clog or it will blow again.
@@sjr943 The thermal fuse blows when the dryer overheats. Something is restricting air flow. It’s usually in the vent pipe or around the fan.
Stanley Wright Thata great! I’m glad you were able to get it fixed. Make sure you find what’s causing it to overheat or the fuse will just blow again.
Glad it helped
Thanks so much! You saved me a ton of money informing me of that fuse blowing due to clogged duct work.
Jim W You are very welcome. I’m glad you figured it out!
Kelly McCulley where did you find the fuse
Oh my gosh I just ordered a $50 start switch and installed it. Dryer still wouldn’t work so I found your video and decided to check the breaker box on the wall. I’m an idiot. Seriously the breaker was flipped. I’ve been hang drying my family’s clothes for a week! Lol. Well thanks for saving me any further money I would have spent! 😃
BTW I am so not telling my husband it was just the breaker box. Lol

Stephanie Malm That’s great! Was your issue the thermal fuse? If so, make sure you find the blockage in either the vent hose or by the fan housing.
TightWadDIY thank you! Yes it was the thermal fuse and I will look for the blockage too! Thanks again 😊

TightWadDIY, I just had to pause your video and THANK YOU for stressing to unplug the dryer before testing any connections, etc. I get absentminded sometimes, and it never occurred to me to unplug the dryer. I'm just shaking my head at my stupidity to not think of that myself. So thank you very much!
Very well explained. You saved me several hundred dollars since most repairmen are rip offs.
I’m glad it worked for you too!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I fixed my issue, it was the breaker. I was sad that I would have to either pay someone to fix it or get another one. You are a life saver💕

This was amazingly simple to follow and yielded MAJOR MONEY SAVING RESULTS!!! THANK YOU!!!
Great tutorial. I had the same dryer with the same issue. Ordered my thermal fuse from Amazon also. Waiting. Thanks, saved me a load.
That’s great! While you are waiting, pull off the lint trap housing and vacuum around the fan. That’s where my blockage was that caused the fuse to blow.
Less dangerous way would be to just test continuity with thermal fuse
It's not dangerous at all once unplugged
Does testing that require one of those meters, please?
Thats exactly what I thought is to just test the thermal fuse using continuity. I did that and I heard a beep which means my thermal fuse is good. What could be another reason why my Maytag wont start?
Thanks for this! Had people telling me to buy new or call a repair man. I did the thermal fuse test and knew what it was right away. Got the fuse the next day. Problem solved. Saved big time. Thanks! 👍
Make sure you remove the vent and look for a blockage. If you don’t fix the issue it will blow the new fuse
Thermal fuses blow for a reason; especially when the dryer is connected to a long vent run. Always check and clean the vent, remove obstructions before replacing the fuse.
Bob Whammer Correct. Thanks for reinforcing that. I address this in a follow up video linked at the end.
Could running it when it us 1 degree outside cause the fuse to blow? I live in apartments and ours died in between loads
@@rb806gaming2 I doubt that outside temp caused your dryer to fail.
@@bobwhammer4237 it could be. I'll pull it out today and check it out, thank you very much sir
A shorted heater or a runaway cycle t-stat also causes this issue
Thanks for this video! I thought it was the start switch on my dryer. You showing how to jump my thermal fuse, which diagnosed the problem. Saved me a lot of time! A squirrel was able to get inside the outside vent and deposit acorns down the vent hose, which caused a blockage and overheat.

This was by far the best video I saw on this topic. Was worried I would need a multi meter because I have nominal electrical experience. Tried the thermal fuse bypass and found my problem by replacing the $5 part, as opposed to the service call. Thanks for your video.
Bert Witte Did you also find the obstruction? They don’t usually fail unless there is a lint ball somewhere.
Bert Witte Thanks for the kind comments. I’m glad I explained it clearly enough for you.
Yes cleaned the whole back area out with a shopvac.
Bert Witte If it blows again, you may need to remove the fan housing and check there. That’s where my problem was.

@@riglaw102 Mine was built up around the fan. I had to remove the lint trap shoot and vacuum it out. Hopefully you found your issue though.
It was the switch! Thank you so much! Saved us a lot of money, time, and heartache!

Thanks so much for your awesome video, it was the thermal switch and following your instruction in the video was able to diagnose it in 5 to 10 minutes. I know you saved me at least 150 bucks, considering the appliance place that I went to just gave me the thermal sensor for free.
That’s great news! Make sure you find the clog or the new thermal fuse will blow also.
Thanks my friend I was worried about having to buy a new dryer and I came across your video and it is exactly what I did tried the terminal fuse trick taped the wires together and it works I will put in a new fuse. Thanks again my friend.

@@TightWadDIY yes I cleaned out the exhaust pipe it had lint in it but it wasn't completely blocked up
Both my washer and dryer are old school no unnecessary sensors like over load or door sensor needed to run. They have been running great with no problems since I bought them for $100 each 5 years ago. They are the heavy duty types you find at the laundromat they are much bigger than the new high tech fancy ones that cost a fortune at the big box stores.
If I ever have to buy new ones, I’ll be looking for the most basic ones I can find too!

Glad you got it fixed!
My problem was the breaker, this also fixed my AC that went out in the middle of a Florida summer. Like and subscribed 😘🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much, being a novice, I of course swapped out the two fuses and then found out they were good and finally found out my 220 line at the dryer end broke terminal. I should have checked that first!!!!!!! (Ugh). Anyhow, you saved me at least $150.00 by not calling a repair person.
Eric Lawson I’m glad to hear you were able to get it figured out.
Thank you for putting up this video!! I went down checked out dryer I was going to smash it but you showed me something about a door switch. So I went downstairs an open my dryer an it was broken..So I put some tape an work Ed..I want to thank you for putting up this video..
You are welcome. I’m glad to hear you got it fixed!
Tried the electric tape method u expained and it started right up. Thanks for explaing so well
Glad it helped!
Thank you for posting this. I followed every step and found my thermal fuse was blown. Save me tons in doing it myself than having someone come take a look at it
Oren Reece That’s great! I’m glad you found and fixed your issue.
Be sure to check out part two. You have a blockage somewhere causing it to overheat. Fix the blockage or it will blow again.

I meant the switch...
MrsReesie112 That’s great. I’m glad it was an easy fix.
Hooray! Thank you so much. I followed your instructions. Just flipped the circuit breaker off then in! Yippeee. Again, thank you for the easy-to-follow directions!!!👍
