- In this video I’m showing you how to fix a dead on arrival battery from hart tools. Basically these batteries sat in a warehouse for months and drained down to 0%. The chargers aren’t made to charge them from 0 up just like DEWALT, Makita, etc… I’ve done this many times before instead of buying a new $100 battery and they work good as new every time.

I got my Heart drill today and couldn't charge the battery so I found your video which reminded me that heating a battery will bring a dead battery to life for a short time so I got out a hair dryer and heated the battery for about seven minutes. To my surprise it worked, my battery started charging. So if you don't have a 20 v charger try a hair dryer or set it in direct sunlight for about ten minutes.
Man you're a lifesaver. Someone had bought a hart drill and returned it at my local Walmart. There was a 50% off clearance tag on it with a receipt saying it didn't work. So my wife bought it not knowing. I tried probably every different plug in my house then finally went to Google which led me to this video. Used some wire and hooked it up to a trickle charger for about 10 seconds. Now it charges. I told my wife that I will frequently drive around the local Walmarts and see if there are any hart tools on clearance 😊. Thanks man

Wow very cool!! Glad I found this video before buying a new battery! Got this work with two razor blades and a 9 V battery. Connected it for just a few seconds and that was enough to fix the problem 😄
It works!!! I just picked up a two drill/recip saw and light kit at walmart for 69.00...yes 69... But the batteries would not charge. Did a quick search before returning them and did this to the batteries. Less than 2 minutes setting up and 10 seconds attached to my trickle charger and they are both charging!!! That my friend is a good day! Thanks for video.

Okay WOW! Thank you!! I live in a small village in Alaska and my husband picked up a Hart drill for me while in town. When I went to use it the batter was showing error and I was SO disappointed. We don't have a Walmart, so I couldn't return it and Amazon takes at least 2 weeks to get here. We tried this and bam! 5 minutes later it's charging and the drill is working. Thanks SO much!
I used these batteries on weed wacker... after about 20 cycles.... fully charge ...fully use ...repeat....both batteries no longer have same power ( weed wacker spins slower with FULL charge) and they die much sooner then before.. And now it's "only" like $80 to replace ONE battery ! Thanks Hart !

It worked !!!! Got these two 20v batteries at the flea market for $1 each...got home tried to charge them...nothing but blinking red for over an hour. So I hooked them up to a fully charged 20v...one minute each and bingo. Negative to Negative and positive to positive. Just one minute. Thx

Just wanted to drop a thank you here. Purchased a Hart 20V sprayer almost a year ago and only opened it up yesterday... like many the battery did not charge ... just flashing the red led. Knowing I was likely out of warranty I was about to just order a new battery when I came across this video. Used my Battery Tender, made a couple of leads and used that to charge for not even 5 minutes. Then plugged it into the HART charger and sure enough.... red led shifted to green and it seems to be charging now!
New tool set, TWO dead batteries. Thanks so much, I'll try this tomorrow. I caught a bunch of these on sale, and bought them for the batteries. I imagine all the others are this way, too. This is the first one I've opened. Thanks again!

Same here bro. I just bought the same impact driver for the same price. I actually just needed a charger because I lost mine but the deal for the tool, battery, and charger all for $50 was too good of a deal to pass on. The charger alone with 20v battery costs $69.00. anw had the same issue with the battery not charging out of the box so I used my motorcycle battery charger then tried to charge it using the original charger and it worked like charm.
Glad I kept the little pigtail wires from before. It worked again. I forgot about the video. But glad I found it again.
Opened a box of Hart Tools w/1.5Ah battery bought 1.5 yrs ago that wouldn't take a charge - this technique worked for me, except that I had an el-cheapo $5 Harbor Freight battery "topper" that puts out what, 500mA at15V, so I had to leave it connected for ~ 12hr to bring up the battery charge sufficiently so that the Hart 18V slide-on charger could then blink green and start charging
Man you saved the day brother. I just hooked it up for about 10 seconds, then switched to hart charger and it went to green blinking light. Thank you for the video
amazing! this works. My tweak to the process was 2 dimes placed in the +/- terminals of the battery, hooked up a car batterry charger set at 12v, 40 seconds of charge time. Worked like a champ!

Thanks Daniel. I had the same problem as others here. Bought a brand new5 piece Hart cordless set (drill, impact driver, saw, flashlight and charger w/ 2 batteries) for $99 at Bailey's Discount Center in Indiana. Great deal, couldn't pass it up, BUT, it has probably been in its box too long before making its way to the discount center. So, I just hooked the first battery up to a trickle charger for about 10 seconds, put it back on the charging unit and voila!, it's green and charging. Will try the second battery after this one is done charging. I'm hoping I'll have the same result with battery #2. Your video saved me a lot of aggravation.

It WORKS!!!! I am just going to keep the little jumper wires. But I was on my way back to the store. I actually got these batteries on clearance. So I think someone brought them back to the store for this error they was getting. Thanks dude!!!
Thanks for posting. I used a plain ole 9V battery and revived my brand new Hart drill battery as well as my 15 year old B&D drill battery. Good Stuff Man!

Awesome vid thanks. I never did anything electrical before, I found some soldering wire and ripped off 2 long pieces. Jammed them inbetween the pins and hooked them up to my girlfriend jumpstarter she got off of amazon for 40$. worked like a charm!

Thank you for this info. I literally had one very expensive 40V and three 20v batteries with this problem. My trickle charger zapped some juice into them for 2 seconds and now they work. I was about to open these up and salvage the good cells and toss the bad

This works with the battery tender that Walmart sells for 30 bucks with the round terminal connections. They just slide right in

This method certainly works.
Turned on my car, I took a speaker wire and a jumper cable to My car. Put it together , the other end poked it through the hart battery. Let it sit for a few minutes. Put the battery on the orginal battery charger and it's good to go.

I had the same problem,my Hart battery was dead out of the box,would not charge so I just took a positive wire and a negative wire and "jumped" it off my dewalt battery and after about 15-20 secs I put it in my drill and it qorked,so I slapped it back on the charge and boom,it started charging,great video

@@heatherhendercoop8643 I'm not real sure of the right terminology so bear with me. I'm going to explain this like I would to a five year old just in case someone who does not speak English well doesn't end up shocked or burnt. I wore safety glasses and tied my hair back, I have GREAT respect for electricity and know that 1 amp can cause major damage to the human body.
1) I took two 4" pieces of smaller gauge (14 and 12 I think) insulated electrical wire, one in black and one in orange (it was what I happened to have in my garage, and I wanted to be able to tell the difference between positive and negative, the length was important because I wanted to be able to have enough play in the wire to not have it pull out of the drill battery.)
2) I used wire strippers and took off the insulation on both ends of both wires (about 1/4”.)
3) I attached a blue (the colors of these things are respective to the gauge of the electrical wire, so double check what size you need) spade tipped INSULATED electrical connector end to both ends of both wires and clamped them down tightly with none of the internal wire fiber visible (Yes I'm ridiculous, I'm afraid of being shocked, it's happened a lot so I'm a little paranoid.)
4) I slid/inserted the ends of the spade tips into the battery for the drill, noting which was positive (+) and negative (-) The drill battery has slats for connecting to the charger, that was where I put the spade tips.
5) I set the 9V battery close enough to the drill that the other ends of the wire could reach the terminals on the 9V
6) ***ONLY touching the connector on the insulated part, NEVER touch any metal when working with electricity without special electrician tools*** I took the negative wire from the drill battery and placed and held the end of the spade tip on the negative terminal on the 9V (I assumed it would work like jumper cables for an automobile battery.)
7) I gently placed and held the positive wire from the drill battery to the positive terminal on the 9V battery, it sparked so I knew something was happening. I held the wire gently to the 9V for 30 seconds or so, I didn't want to blow anything up.
8) I took the ends off the 9V, slid the other side of the wires out of the drill battery and pressed the little button on the drill battery and it lit up.
When I slid the drill battery into the charger it charged up like a dream and I haven't had an issue since.
I then celebrated my victory over the power tools, by telling anyone who would listen how I am officially a MacGyver BADASS 😅

I did your 9v battery trick for 30 seconds and was pleasantly shocked when I got the GREEN LIGHT after putting it on its charger for the first time 🤩🤩🤩 Very grateful you took the time to post. Surprisingly enough this does work. I have two of the 20v hart batteries. One takes a charge just fine, the other would only blink red over and over. I hooked from positive to positive, negative to negative between the two batteries. For about 5 seconds. Put the 'bad' one back on the charger... and viola! It's taking a charge. Since this just happened, I have no idea how much of a charge it will take, or how long it will last.
I did the same thing and go to put it on the drill and no go but the other battery works so I'm loat

Awesome. Thank you SO SO much for this. This happened to me, returned it 4 hours later, customer service rep did the same thing I did with another new one from the box with the same result. I have a charger that will charge it like you showed so I can go back & get it & do this to get it to work!

I picked up a pair of 4ah batteries for $40. New in the package. The guy got them for Christmas. Sure enough one was just flashing ‘test’. I’ll try this in the morning

Dude, that worked great. 2 "error" batteries new out of the box. Voltage under 4v. Connected 'em to an 40 year old Sears 2a / 12v charger for 5 min, poof, worked on the Hart charger
No luck with my trickle chargers. But I tried a car battery like you said and it worked! Gave it 5 seconds and put it quickly on charger. Hopefully the battery hasn't lost capacity.

Thank You so much for this. I had a battery that wouldnt charge and guessing by your comments it was totally empty of charge. After buying this charging the device did what you suggested and is charging on regular charger as we speak. Glad this works because the batteries to my unit are obsolete to even get.

Open them up and clip lead directly to the cells. Give it current at about 20V, use a brake light as a current limiter. When battery voltage is 3.4V or better, apply this to the output terminals. Baterries should charge normally afterwards. If a cell won't charge up it must be replaced. Though.

I had the same issue, just heating it up can work too. I put a hairdryer on it for 7 mins and it started charging again!
I just got the drill + impact + battery+ charger + the tire inflator for $65 at Walmart and the battery is not charging.... Will def try this before taking this back to the store. Thanks 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Now that I read all these comments on here about a 9 volt battery doing the job 😂. Got me thinking 🤔 I have a 4 Ah hart battery, maybe I can jump start the smaller 1.5 ah with the 4ah? I got 2 4ah batteries coming today with a fast charger. $99 for 2 batteries and $37 for fast charger. I used to buy Ryobi, now I changed to Hart! I like to have bigger batteries that last longer 😂. @@danielmachado45 I found a video on UA-cam yesterday on how to jump start a smaller battery from a bigger battery. So it definitely works. You can even jump start a big battery with a small battery. Only takes 10 seconds to do it! I get new ones today. On FedEx truck for delivery it says! 👍❤️
@@danielmachado45 well I got new fast charger today and it's charging 1.5 ah now. Plugged it in and it went straight to charging! I had a feeling it was small 2amp charger that was reason battery would not charge and I was right! Just didn't want to say anything till I got bigger charger and a real heavy cord on it! Well I solved my problem! I don't have jump charge anything now! 👍❤️

Thx. Will try this, my hart mower made a pop sound while my son was mowing. Thought the battery had died, took it to charge it and battery said testing. See if this fixes the problem

Thank yoy , I was wondering if another charging source would work because I thought It was the charger that wasnt working so Im about to try and hook up a usb cord adapter to the battery to get it up to where the actual hart charger will pick it up.

A bit of a warning. I tried this yesterday with a similar charger and it almost started a fire. I heard singing odd then smelled it. I then ran it to my yard and dropped it. It smoked and melted half the plastic. Never caught fire. It’s still out there in the yard. From what im reading I’m just going to leave it there for a while longer… The charger I used was a “smart” charger, but I’m thinking it’s not all that smart.
