One big upside of Hyperion is that it works with addressable leds instead of strips with addressable led zones. The effect can be a lot more precise and detailed. This can be really spectacular with scenes like street lights passing by on a street at night, with the glow exactly following the glow on screen. I have used a setup like this for race simulation games and it is amazing how much immersion it can add so dark scenes.

I have almost" finished" my room done with the Phillips Hue lights. I tried to pretend I wasn't droppin close to 2 grand on lights so I purchased a few lights at a time with a week or 2 in between purchases to make me feel a little better about myself. Silly?... Yes but it worked and I love em. I actually started with the Govee set up but I kept getting frustrated with different things and finally gave up. I'm not here to rip on Govee infact I really like a bunch of their stuff and still have some of their LED strips in stalled under my bed and stuff. If you wanna get crazy with it you can have your Hue sync to your TV picture and the Govee sync to the sound from whatever you are watching 😁. Can't wait to see what the future holds for lighting cause it's f**kin awesome

Great video, which version of govee did you get? I didn't realize there were 2 available on Amazon for same $, and difference is noticeable. It looks like you have the H61991, which is the better of the 2 (h6104 being the other). The are a few things to do to the Govee that will significantly improve performance on all fronts. 1. Try bottom mounting the camera, the app has the option, and most people see a slight increase in response when installed this way. 2. When calibrating the camera in the app, place the points slightly past the edge of the screen, and also use the UA-cam calibration video and skip the orange blocks altogether. Finally, in the Govee app, set the saturation to 0% and brightness to around 40 to 50, this will fix the white problem. Govee actually has a pretty decent white, but when the saturation is past around 10, for some reason it goes blue. Anyway I hope this helps anyone and maybe try this on your setup and see how well it performs!

For Hyperion, it should be noted that some gaming consoles can detect when they're connected to a capture card and will limit some features (looking at you, Nintendo Switch). This is because they're often used to record HDMI signals, so while doing it for gaming is fine, they'll do what they can to prevent pirating. Wouldn't be surprised if other hardware does the same. Honestly annoying though, since clearly recording isn't the only use for them.

Just for added insight. You can add a splitter with selector switch (i have 3 into 1 out) on my hyperbian setup. Basically its 4k at 60hz with HDR and dolby vision. Its a setup that blows hue and the inaccuracies of govee out the water. Just wanted to help people make the best choice, the hyperion setup. You must be on the DIY nerdy electronics side tho lol. If your not good with electronics just grab the govee setup lol. Govee is great for what it is... And its some what cheap cost. Thats my 2 cents. Hyperion can definitely have more than one source.

To anyone wondering, no you don't need to put all the hyperion hardware on the back of the TV.
All you need are the following:
A long HDMI cable if you moving everything but the LED strip away from the TV (look at Fiber HDMI cable if you need more than 15 feet)
A 3 wire speaker cable going to the LED Strip on the back of the TV
A logic level shifter connected to the data wire of the speaker wire (you can buy a DigiUno from QuinLED if you don't want to solder)
You are going to connect the LED Strip to the speaker wire > Speaker wire to both LED power supply and Raspberry PI (Make sure you connect ground wire pin from the power supply to the raspberry pi).

I started with Govee LED strips. They lack compatibility and customization. Hyperion is drastically better. It isn't even a close comparison. I do not use capture cards. I've always built my own PC and just use that as my only TV source for a long time now. You can pretty much watch anything you want with a computer. I don't mind the extra labor and time it takes to learn the skills and find the knowledge to make things the way I want them to be. It's been a year now since you posted this and Govee still lacks integration worth using unless you get the high end devices. You can build them better and cheaper.I still use all my govee items I got originally. Not hating on them, but you cant even compare them to fully customizable.

It will never be perfect, there will always be a mixture of colors constantly sometimes it shows color when the object is a tiny little thing will end up lighting a whole corner, you don’t even focus on the light you’re focused on the tv.
In my opinion the govee full TV set with two standing bars I picked it up for 90$
Works great with the strips and separate backlight put on the sides or bottom of the tv stand to extend the lights looks amazing.
Works very well has a great app and a lot of features for music and standard and custom light setup.
You can just hide the camera on the bottom if your tv also not even mounted just lay it on the stand if you have one or below it hidden in some decoration if you don’t wanna see it.

What these reviewers and Govee do not tell you, is that it takes 21ft of LED strip to cover an 85"inch TV from corner to corner, they sell and advertise a set of immersion lights for TV from 75-85" but that kit only comes with 16.5 ft of LED strips, that does not cover your 85" inch TV, and the corners will be awfully dark.

A great way to improve the govee is to put an ND filter over the camera. Neweer makes one. Essentially with the ISO being so high on the govee, it can misrepresent some colors. This helps it to tame that and produce much better results. Just be sure to recalibrate. I have seen much better and precise govee lights on UA-cam than what youre showing in this video

I like Govee, but I don't like the camera. I have a Receiver that has HDMI switching, even if the receiver is turned off, so Hyperion works well. The camera feels like a privacy invasion. Hyperion does have a bunch of other options where you can send an image from the TV to Hyperion, meaning Hyperion can run multiple inputs even a camera (totally local) if you needed to. If your TV has a HDMI output it's even easier. Hyperion is certainly not for everyone though. You do need to know how to tinker a bit, but once it is done it doesn't need any maintenance.
Depending on the RGB strip quality will depend on how well white works. Mine are only RGB and white is definitely a perfect white with my strip.

You forgot to mention, that Hyperion because of the video capture device will not sync colours from apps like UA-cam, Netflix, etc. Yes, you can leave it static, of course, but no reaction to what's happening on the screen. Govee does not have such limitations, since it's using a camera to map the colours behind the TV. Too much work, if you ask me, to synchronise Hyperion colours only when you are using external source. Plus forget about 4k 120gz and dolby atmos.
