    I got mine in 2011 and still like it a lot. The new 27.5 version looks a little more organic to me though - the wheelbase isn't quite as cramped.

    • @MattyEPC
      @MattyEPC  9 років тому

      Michael Ashe No worries. It really depends on what type of riding you are planning on. The XTC is ideal for some serious training and racing where as the Talon is not as an aggressive race bike and is better for playing on the trials, cruising and a few recreational races. Both are great bikes.

    What tires are you running on your XTC, I've a XTC 29er 2, and agree its an awesome bike for single track and XC.. moved from a talon 3 and its night and day, although sometimes it struggles on some muddy downhill trails I hit, but I guess DH is beyond the spec of the bike, still really happy with it.

    +matty graham, I can get a deal on an XTC Advanced 1 29er ($500 off). I posted on MTBR about the bike, asking for opinions, and a couple of people made disparaging comments about it because it has what they call an "old school" 71° head tube angle. They say this will make it twitchy and hard to control on downhill sections, and that newer designs have slacker head tube angle without sacrificing quick turning, due to their offset. Personally, I'm actually looking for a bike that turns much better than the 2011 Specialized Hardrock 29er that I'm riding now.
    I was pretty excited about the XTC Advanced 1, but now I'm not sure.
    I've never ridden one.
    What do you think?

    • @MattyEPC
      @MattyEPC  9 років тому +1

      John Pifer It really depends on what you want the bike for. If you are after a fast CX racing bike then I highly rate the XTC. If you are wanting a more laid back trail bike for hitting some big descents and playing on tight trails then going for something like the Trance or Reign will suit your needs better with a 26 or 27.5 wheel size if getting around tight turns is really important for you.

      +matty graham, I ended up ordering an XTC Advanced 1 29er today. One of the last 2 2015s in the country. Love that it has the Fox fork and all Shimano SLX/XT components.
      My last (first) bike being a Specialized Hardrock 29er (basically designed as a play bike), I have no idea what it's like to ride a bike with racy geometry. So, I'm pretty excited to find out when it gets here late this week or early next week!
      Any suggestions for mods? I'm already thinking about adding a remote fork lockout switch and a dropper seat post. A Stan's tubeless system is being installed before I take delivery.

    • @MattyEPC
      @MattyEPC  9 років тому

      John Pifer NICE! I prefer a straight bar, ESI grips and bar ends but that is just me.
      ua-cam.com/video/427nB4kLVqo/v-deo.html
      I know a lot of xc riders are starting to add in dropper seat posts and a tubeless set up is a must.
      Enjoy and let me know how it goes.

    Hi I live in the in the UK I just wanted to ask how much was this bike wen it for came out and how much would this bike be now in 2015 and is it still worth getting or is there a new model with diffrent changes or is it over all the same I'm looking to get a new bike and I'm very interested in giant bikes ther are a few bikes I'm looking at but still unsure mabey you can pint me in the right direction on prices and what's best to upgrade from new so the bikes I'm looking at are as follows Giant Roam 3 2015 - Hybrid Sports Bike Giant Roam 0 2015 - Hybrid Sports BikeGiant - XTC 3 2012 Men's Medium also I'm about 5.8 and not sure if I'd be best with. +Kenneth Williamson It was around $3000 NZD and I actual sold mine a couple of months ago for $2000 second hand.
      There are minimal changes between these bikes over the past 3 seasons so getting last seasons model is cost effective way of getting an up grade on your current bike.
      It really depends on what type of riding you are planning on doing as to which bike would be best for you. What type of riding are you planning on doing?
      I am 178 cm (5.10?) and ride a M sized frame.
      I hope that helps.

      Depending on the tyres you are running the xtc rides well on the road. With the forks locked out it is very stiff.

      Hi Nick Jenks thanks for your question. If I was you I would go with one of the newer Giant frames if you are keen to build that is more specific to the type of riding you want to do.
