    Today we finally get to take a look at the brand new 2021 Giant XTC SLR 29 2! I have been waiting for the return of the aluminum XTC as a great option for an entry level race platform to build upon and Giant did not disappoint.
    I also have sentimental value with the XTC line of mountain bikes because it was one of the first nicer bikes I got to race.
    I hope you are all staying safe and enjoy the content. Don't forget to like and subscribe. I will see you all in the next one!

    I picked up this bike recently. It is a ridiculously good bike for 1300-1400! I have watched both of your reviews on this XTC which convinced me to grab this. I am very happy I did. It rides so smooth and efficiently. I love it. Thanks for the great review.

    Just purchased this bike as a US expat living in Kenya - the international version comes with a Shimano Deore rear derailleur, 10x51 cassette, and a Praxis crankset/bottom bracket. Love the color scheme myself on this bike as well as just how light it is.

    I too am looking at this bike and the fantom 29. My SWPA trails are tight switchback and then I ride the railtrails with my roadies friends. I think this bike might be good for the tight single track . Are the rear hubs the same on this bike and the fantom 29

    I live about an hour north of the Charlotte area and most local trails are pretty mellow. Would you recommend this or the Fathom 2 29er for a sort of do all bike. Mostly trail riding with the occasional friendly XC race? Also, doing any Cane Creek races this year? I’m considering one for my first XC race.

    • @MossieRidesBikes
      @MossieRidesBikes  3 роки тому +1

      Based off of the charlotte trails I would prefer to have the XTC myself just because of how quick it handles. The fathom will still get the job done but lends itself more to an all around hardtail than to having one specific purpose if that makes sense. All things held constant I will be doing the Cane Creek series again this year! I definitely recommend it for a first race

    I'm tempted by the XtC SLR 1 with Shimano SLX and a XT rear derailleur it's £1499 over in England but am debating this or a full suspension Anthem with the same group set, decisions, decisions ! For anyone reading this I'm fairly new to the sport but have got into off road riding when I bought a gravel bike last year.

    • @MossieRidesBikes
      @MossieRidesBikes  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think you will be disappointed with either bike. I've raced a carbon xtc and anthem. When looking at an XC full squish vs hardtail it really depends on what matters most to you and what trail you will be on most of the time. In an ideal world I would have one of each but that is a lot of dough😁

      @@MossieRidesBikes thanks for the advice I don’t race but do generally cover a lot of miles so like the idea of an xc bike due to being faster and more efficient though not sure I’d appreciate the stretched out nature of a race rig and found after test riding a anthem (it was a size to big for me) that it felt hard on the neck and might prefer a more mellow position on something like a trance 29er. Though not sure if a trance would be more bike than are ever really need.

    Giant makes the best value for money bikes. I got a Giant XTC with Shimano SLX drivetrain & hydraulic brakes at $850 which was a real steal. Their housebrand air suspension may not be as good as Rockshox's offerings but its pretty decent for my riding needs.

    • @MossieRidesBikes

    I bought a 2021 Fathom 1, just getting into mountain biking after racing dirt bikes on single track for several years. I think I want to try some cross country races after watching your videos. I can't believe how fast you are! Anyway being new to this they did have a Giant XTC SLR 1 at the same shop. I mostly ride to get in shape and it's mostly single track roots, ruts, not a lot of elevation here in Michigan. I'm wondering if I would have been better off now with the XTC over my Fathom?

      For the price difference, the value is definitely there. I personally would get the 1 but I also like to go ahead and get as close to what I want with the stock bike. You could easily get the 2 if you were wanting to upgrade as you go. I love the xt rear derailleur but I would probably still get a better shifter and brakes whenever the stock ones wore out.
