Lyrics:
Used to be a bunch of assholes
That lived in this part of the building here
But we systematically removed them
Like you would any kind of termite or roach
Someone told me once
That there's a right and wrong
Punishment was sure
For those who dare to cross the line
But it must not be true
For jerk-offs just like you
Maybe it takes longer to catch a total asshole
But I'm tired of waiting
Someone told me once
That there's a right and wrong
Punishment was sure
For those who dare to cross the line
But it must not be true
For jerk-offs just like you
Maybe it's just bullshit, I should play God
And shoot you myself
Tired of waiting, oh
Consequences dictate
Our course of action
And it doesn't matter what's right
It's only wrong if you get caught
If consequences dictate
My course of action, I should
I should play God and just
Shoot you myself
Tired of waiting
Die, die
Shoot it, kick it, fuck it
Shoot you in your fucking head
The punk elements tool had in their early days make these songs so fucking great
That last "Tired of Waiting" led me to believe he was truly done waiting.
Believe me, he absolutely died inside
Absolutely.
Sucks
When Maynards voice burned like a friggin blowtorch.
i think flamethrower is more suitable
On the melon.. so ya mummy.. could regret something less punishing.. then you.. benign.. less congealed then honey.. exiting her ruined cunny.
@@zj3211 she deserved all of ..what you did the wright thing

Oh, the things I would do to hear a 28-yr.-old Maynard sing "7empest".
It would be 7umroaches
My heart would explode
There's Lyrics in that song? XD

This comment makes absolute no sense, congratulation
This album is so consistently amazing. Kinda like NIN's album "Broken." Short, heavy, straight-forward, focused, and the rawness only youth can provide.
i agree with this 100% and i love NIN, especially "broken".
And both came out in 1992
I promise to say as stupid a stuff when I come back
My favourite from Opiate. A killer track.
My favorite from this album as well.
@@Iweighmorewithoutclothes-wz1ph You nailed it.. that is what makes this song so God damned powerful... its something i don't even like to hear sometimes but i'm glad i had listened and experienced this in the past.
Thanks for your comment

And this was performed live. Best band ever.
in fact it first appeared in demo 72826
That 12 second scream will always be godlike. Especially the short one he does right after that.
That post-scream, 2nd short sharp burst of die! is my favorite part of the song. I wish that had become the standard way it was performed. Its not there on the early demo of the song, and I haven't heard any other live versions with it either. Can't be the only time he's performed it that way though
ironic that your morbid
What does he say in the post-scream?
@@rulyhyperion8277 It's just the extended tail end of "die" he belts out
@@Godhatesfatpeople Ok. I thought he said "b*tch"

It doesn't matter. As long as people know what you're saying, it don't matter 😂
XG Official It’s Been Couple Decades And I Can’t Stop Right Now😂
COUPLE OF DECADES?? That's some dedication right there!
"Consequences dictate course of action. It doesn't matter what's right. It's only wrong if you get caught." -MJK
Gets me everytime. Brilliant, funny, & true.
"An execution my point of action"
You forgot the most important word at the beginning - 'if'

Oh he slipped one in on me again. Hes almost like a Terrance McKenna/Dr. Suess hybrid, with some really badass pipes. Had to break out my Thesaurus for Fear Inoculum & I'm actually pretty well read believe it or not. That's another thing I love about Tool. Adam, Maynard, Danny, and Justin are all extremely unique, intelligent, talented individuals . Who all just have essentially one bond, which is their love of music and art. I once described them to somebody as like a modern day Doors. Very melodic, provocative, artsy, deep, & dark
Not true
@@angelapapineau9986 Absolutely true. If you only let consequences dictate your actions then you have no moral backbone. You're a slimy eel.
Still the greatest live performance of any song ive ever heard by anyone ever.

The audio people fucking killed it. For sure.
A vocal track hotter than the sun, a supernova.
3:34, One of the singers that can also scare the crap out of you.
One of Maynard's best.....pure emotional rage!
If only we can relieve the rage like this
Manslaughter no parole
my favorite tool song..... like ever ever....... when maynard was desperate, destitute and they were all collectively at a point in their lives where they were starting to crack at the seams... and that new EP art tho....
I agree.
When they could only afford green jello...
@@zarathustraspeaks7586 Underrated comment. +1 for you.
@@zarathustraspeaks7586 Adam Was actually pretty rich, Danny was already a very successful studio musician as well as being in like 5 bands, maynard was the only one who was really kinda floating around. Not sure about Paul either.
@@zarathustraspeaks7586 You can't afford a marshall 4x12 and a 1976 superbass, and a 3000+ dollar silverburst if you're poor.
Danny KILLED!!!
Used to be in a cover band; always closed the show with this; those that stayed were champions! Go Blue!
One example of what a studio performance could never ever capture. Best track pre-undertow. One can make an argument including Undertow.
Absolutely love how maynards live voice sounds the same as his albums voice, this man's vocals are heavenly
Maynard is a modern day philosopher. I can't get enough of the opiate album even now 25 years later.
I listen to OPIATE and SEASONS OF THE ABYSS, when working out. Cant go wrong with TOOL or SLAYER!!!!
This song from Opiate used to be my favorite as a kid (17 yrs old in 2002) so much power and the fucking lyrics are awesome, Im happy
I'm 17 yrs old now and 2002 is when I was born and you actually got it right it seems everything in opiate just make me feel so much power!!! 👏
@@muhammadadam048 im 16 and i can already imagine myself at 40 remembering this exact day. If im not dead at least
This whole album ...NO SKIPS
I skip "Part of Me." I think it's the band's worst song by a long shot.
@@einherjar8147 you are just a part of me you are just a part of me YOU ARE JUST A PART OF MEEEEEEEEE!!!
Three of Maynard's best screams for the price of one.
I listen to this before going to sleep.
Now my nightmares can't sleep at night.
The end of this song goes so hard.
This song is like opiate, it addicts you.
the first TOOL song I ever heard. The world stopped turning when the music was over. I knew my life was going to be very different from that moment on.......................
Finally found this song again after years. I remember listening to Opiate on cassette with my Dad when I was like 5, but then we lost the cassette in a move before I could figure out the name of the song. And now I'm back, feels good.
if a time machine ever existed, i would go back to when this was recorded, and be right there during this concert!
2.38 to 3.12 is my favorite part of this song. Love that breakdown
I love this live version. Always have; but man...I'd love to see a new recorded version if Maynard could pull off that epic screams still!
Jordan Parsons listen to Ticks and Leeches, that's a big reason why he can't really scream anymore
Unfortunately, he can't
yeah no, Maynard is 55 years old, not sure how the hell he pulled off a good scream in his recent performance of "Part Of Me", but unless he retrained his voice, he cannot do the jerkoff scream at this point.
Just timed it, this scream is 10 seconds while the "Part of me" scream is 2 seconds or less.

The journey from Opiate to Fear Inoculum has been great! Back in the studio in 2024? Hell yeah! Not enough, I need more!
I was first introduced to undertow but the opiate album will always be my favorite. So f***ing raw
Best song off this EP for sure....
I'm fairly new to tool... And I'm now back tracking from fear inoculum till undertow... And now opiate...
This is probably my favourite version of tool..

i feel nothing but joy when im hearing this song
I played bass when I was younger, but this was the only song I learned how to play fully on a regular guitar.
Glad I finally gave Opiate a listen. I've listened to all other albums besides this one, until today
Same man same
It's so fucking good.
whatd you think in comparison w/ their other "sounds"? I like this album and aenima a lot
The way they cut back from the intensity in the 3rd verse so we can focus on the lyrics that captures the message of the song is pure genius. This song is the example that they started doing this from their early days. Vicarious is the pinnacle of this technique i think with the line 'vicariously i live when the whole world dies, much better you than i' ehich like sums up the whole song.
Tom Morello was on Sirius Radio the other day....and said he was in this crowd that night.......which is pretty cool....
Wtf love this drummer goddamn
Holy shit that scream is so well done
I honestly didn’t expect Maynard’s regular voice to sound the way he did in this before the song haha
@Roberta Mohamedally No its Maynard speaking not Bill Hicks.
@Roberta Mohamedally why u gotta lie
@Roberta Mohamedally That doesn't sound remotely close to Bill Hicks' voice. But I'm not gonna stop you from what you're smoking.
@Roberta Mohamedally
Bill hicks ? You idiot .
@Roberta Mohamedally the bill hicks audio is at the beginning of the album version of the song Third Eye from Ænema
Different bass player up until 1995.. I loved the first 2 albums,so much energy.. But I love Aenema and Lateralus just as much almost lol
This one of TOOLs legitimate extremely heavy songs.. But with TOOL how heavy they make a song honestly doesn't matter...they are at heart always true too themselves..never sold out
Are you forgetting something? You're contextually retarded. What about "Hooker with a Penis"?
Heavy this track is, but that's just what served this song. I don't estimate that that particular quality of music, being "heavy" is ever their goal. They let songs develop into whatever they need to be. Often they do develop very "heavy" sections. That's real art.
@@kevinkesterson1806 ummm....hello what? I think quality is to be estimated by how long it takes Tool to make an album
@Brian Fleming l edited my post to hopefully better reflect what l was trying to say. My use of the word "quality" about song sounds meant in terms of aspect: heavy, soft, smooth, rough, clear, distorted, and so on. I did NOT intend to have the word convey a lack of excellence. Tool is amazing art, and l am a fan. Re-reading what l initially wrote, l can see how l arranged the sentence in a way that could easily lead a reader to a different conclusion than was intended. Hopefully, it now reads clearer to the idea l am trying to convey.
Thanks for the point out! 👉
@@kevinkesterson1806 in that case.... 👍 👍
One time I listened to Opiate (the whole frickin' album) in front of my Christian family. This very song ended and the silence was terrifiying.
LoL! I bet you could hear a pin drop at that moment. 😆 My parents weren't super religious but I would still try to wait until they were out of the house for the afternoon before I cranked up the volume to this track..The only music I feared more of getting caught with as 5th & 6th grader was my copy of - 2 Live Crew "As Nasty as they Wanna Be" I would have either gotten the beat down of my young life or my parents would have just straight collapsed on the floor due to a stroke. Luckily they never did find it..😄
@@snapdragon6601 they found it, just didn’t say anything
Still my favorite Tool song.
"We systematically removed them like you would any termite or roach." 😆 beautiful!
Like x100000000000, Ive been listenin to this the last 25 years! Ill still listen again and again and again and again and again and again and again
That is the very definition of intense emotional angst
nickolas tesla once said unlock the 3 6 9 and you have the keys to the universe... food for thought
Never heard this before and I’m ashamed. This shit is siiiiiccccckkkkk
This entire album is sickkkk imo their best one.
I literally listen to this song when I go to sleep at night a lot of nights.
therefore you suffer from insomnia
Just the best track on this EP. Especially how it’s live.
This song is so true and spot on
I love Maynard live! He was so young
The first song i learned how to play bass on. It will always resonate with me.
I am pretty sure in a different universe there is a Opiate Album with all these tracks being super godly produced studio tracks.
Best tool song ever
''i should play god and just shoot you myself'' in my opinion best line in the song.
My favorite is "DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE DIE!".
I love that bass drum, heavy hitting.
I love everything about this song. From the killer riffs and drum tracks to the message. The message still lives true today. To those who can’t read between the lines and get offended... sadly you’re a sheep. The way of the rich and powerful supersedes us all... that’s the point of this tune. Wake up or there will be no tomorrow to wake up too. Still holds up in today’s climate.
Most Definitely What’s Up.
The name of this song represents my life
That fucking scream, his vocal chords must be made of steel
Let's just say he can't do it anymore. lol
If a studio version of this song was placed at the beginning of Undertow, it would somehow be a better opener than Intolerance.
I quote from this song at least once a week
This song is so much to play on guitar!
Top Ten Tool Song.
Top 3. Vicarious, Hooker, then this one

Amazing how tight they are so early on. 😀
It's hard to believe this is a live track. But the cheering says otherwise.
I’m surprised Maynard didn’t systematically remove the crowd cheering like he would any type of termite or roach
Great live audio!
Amazing track.
So good. Might be the best song on the EP
if consequences dictate our course of action ending it doesn't matter whats right or wrong👌
What I would do to just see Tool play this live, just once!
Favorite album of tool. Ever. Glad I found Jesus though...
Good happy for you. I have too.
This song is probably their angriest song. Probably my favorite. But, it makes me wonder who they're talking about in it. Hmm....
@Nameless User Probably.
Some lady pulled out of a one-way parking lot when she saw my dad coming, and she drove the wrong way. Before driving off, though, she yelled at my dad, "Move over, you piece of sh*t!" My dad introduced me to this song and said it was made for her.
