I am 46, fighting brain cancer, woke up sick today after completing round 4 of chemotherapy. This is the song I went to. It's blaring in my ears right now. What a perfect song.
No joke, diagnosed in Oct '21. Had it removed, doing a year of meds. I graduated high school in '95 and Tool has never left me. Every album a gem. When music causes your endorphins to flow, your adrenaline to rush, and goosebumps all over your body, it's a natural pain reliever and mood booster. Next time you're sick or feel like shit all over, listen to the song that lifts you from your chair all by itself...LOUD 👍 Oh, and I should be ok. We maybe caught it early enough.
Damn dude, we're the same age... Your comment just gave me a gut punch. Sending you prayers and good vibes that you kick cancer's ass. As for this song, you are spot on with the adrenaline rush... Good for the soul.
I'll put some prayers in for you. I'm a stage IV cancer survivor myself....6 months of chemo and 6 surgeries...that was over 12 years ago and I'm still here at the age of 57. If it helps, I chose not to put forth anger against the cancer but projected love onto it through constant creative visualization and meditation. While doing so, I told it that it did not belong in my body and instructed it to politely leave. I have found that when one fights against something, it tends to resist and fights back. By projecting love onto the cancer, it listened and went away.
It takes a rare soul to appreciate it in the childhood, but he did some incredible things that the music evolves with you. The only other media I've seen do that is the bible. I'm not saying Maynard is Jesus, but you can certainly get to some holy places sitting back and listening. He's certainly both the solution and problem to the band, I love it all.
Same here! I didn’t really like them at all when they were big in the 90’s-00’s, but now I can appreciate them a lot more. I’ve found that I’m liking a lot of different stuff now than when it was new, I was a lot younger, and certainly more musically narrow/close minded to boot.

Taking Tool's lyrics as life advice has been a game changer, especially in the love department. So far I've slept with L.Ron Hubbard as well as his clones, slept with junkies as well as gangster wannabes. It just keeps getting better everyday.

"Some say a comet will fall from the sky, followed by meteor showers and tidal waves, followed by fault lines that cannot sit still, followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits." This song was on the radio when my mother was dying of cancer. She was 68 years old. I told her about the song and we listened to it together. She told me that when she was young, people would share commentary through essays published. And people would read them and then write an essay of response. She felt that this music was a progression of society to accomplish the same end. She thought it was interesting.

I don’t think I’ve heard a more perfect song written in my life. There’s so many layers to this song and the structure is amazing. It’s a proper song in every sense. Nothing specific stands out, every member of the band has their own contribution to the song and stands out in it’s own way rather than a guitar solo dominating the song for example. If that makes sense

No effects... affected means affection with an ion at the end. We won't be effected again. Time to equate using the tool that holds US together. The fine line between love and war. Is gwar. A band of architecture and Earth, wind, fire. Water gets us through all that and BP keeps our customs in order. Mary always has to fix this when change comes. Bringing down the very cause of war is a void worth filling. They always seem to start thinking that they can rule better and that why they have no place to go. They are sealed for reasons and tool knows how to do this with no deals and no bombs. We don't want our house to look like damage and lifeless places. This is the final frontier. Nowhere to run they destroyed and we worked hard to build this place. So when the border crisis hits. It does weigh on all of us to stop this or this place will be no more also. Not your problem but it soon could be. I don't want to start over because of this thing that sucks life right out. They will devour all life forms. And the seal was only good tell 2012. But they chew their way through the barrier or atmosphere and tunnel through ground until all life is like the desert or worse gone.
I’ve loved tool since the beginning. Back then though I was in my early twenties and really only liked them because I thought they just freaking sounded killer. But now that I’m much older and tad bit wiser I’m listening to the lyrics and all I can say is I really wish I had payed more attention to them back then. Holy shit they are awesome and even more so now than before. Genius.
I’m 34 and until now my only experience with tool was in my twenties when my roommate would “schism bomb” myself and the roomies, meaning he would put the schism video on the tv and turn it all the way up as he left for work 😂. We were sitting around the fire on a super cold December nite in Massachusetts. I remember it like it was yesterday. My buddy and I were super cold from the chaos that had erupted in the harbor that day and we had felt accomplished, but completely drained. Someone in the distance started playing a banjo and humming this song that we had never once heard. We all knew then that the end was near soon that nite; but we filled with triumphant songs & sudden Burts of revolting energy once more. We would not be England's tool we proclaimed that glorious day in 1773.

This IS NOT a song. It is a prophecy.
"Some say a comet will fall from the sky, followed by meteor showers and tidal waves, followed by fault lines that cannot sit still, followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits."
That's some poetry right there.
Als, can't help it, I love the word "dipshit". It's a good word. not often I hear it worked into song lyrics.

Some will coward away in blindness others will fight back through their purpose. For some music is the tool, for others it's farming, etc etc
"I'm praying for rain.. I'm praying for tidal waves.. I wanna see the ground give way.." ..is the best part. I always wait anxiously for that part because he puts so much heart into those lines. You just wanna say "I feel ya, Maynard.." 👊😎

Absolutely
it is sort of angry and beutiful. an opera of rage and frustration.

I swear this song makes all my grudges that were almost gone come back 100 percent full affect.
I wanna press the buttons to the nukes. Fuck this place
You definitely need to listen to The Grudge next then

We were sitting around the fire on a super cold December nite in Massachusetts. I remember it like it was yesterday. My buddy and I were super cold from the chaos that had erupted in the harbor that day and we had felt accomplished, but completely drained. Someone in the distance started playing a banjo and humming this song that we had never once heard. We all knew then that the end was near soon that nite; but we filled with triumphant songs & sudden Burts of revolting energy once more. We would not be England's tool we proclaimed that glorious day in 1773.
